Hello all.

I have been to birmingham this weekend to see a friend of DHs and his family, they have a 16 month old daughter who hilariously took against DH which is unusual as children usually love him, I reassured him by telling him that his child has to love him .
My DH is lovely as well, he is very supportive over the pregnancy but like most women I think he could do more around the house. He likes to take H. L. Mencken's definition of fundamentalism which is "a terrible, pervasive fear that someone, somewhere, is having fun" and re-write it so that women have a terrible, pervasive fear that some man, somewhere is sitting down.

Pigley, I hope things are going well for your sister.

purplejennyrose and poledra sorry to hear things aren't going well, any chance you could persuade your DHs to have a session at relate with you then at least you can talk things thru in a neutral atmosphere?

I still havent' had BH or leaky nipples but I'm deffo not complaining about that!

twinkle1 · 18/05/2008 16:45

Afternoon all,
Having one of those days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DH was getting ready to go to the airport to catch plane to Holland for work.He lifted the pushchair out the car boot to put his case in and caught his finger in the pushcahir mechanism, those who own a phil& ted BEWARE.He has done a good job of amputating the end of his finger!!!!! he's still at the hospital waiting to see what they will do
It looks like sweeny todd let rip out on the drive....Who designs a pushchair that can do that to your fingers?????
So feeling slightly stressed.Hope everyone else is ok
Sorry for the rant
Twinkle

isaidno · 18/05/2008 16:57

Hope his finger is ok!!
I've been so bored this arvo I shampooed the lounge carpet. How sad am I? Will blame the nesting instinct.

minipinkscottish · 18/05/2008 17:09

twinkle - hope dh is ok!

I actually bought some essential baby things today. I got loads of nappies, breast pads and towels, a steriliser and bottles and sterilising tabs. It's a start I am now desperate to get into attic to look for breast pump and any other baby stuff that is lurking up there. Problem is dh hates me going up there when I'm pg - terrified I'll fall - so I'll wait till he goes out He says he'll do it for me but men never look properly for things do they?

DH has had friends round this weekend. It was poker last night then a mamouth 5 hour session on Mario cart on the Wii!!
They have only just left.

Feel knackered although ive just been watching them play and cant believe how quickly the days gone. Admittedly we did get up till about 10 and breakfast wasnt till about 11ish, but it was a late night.

Twinkle - Hope you DH's finger is ok. My DH did that in a gate when he was a child. Thankfully they managed to sew it back on. He has been left with a scar around his finger and it is noticably shorter than the little finger on his other hand but at least they managed to save it.

Libralady- havent heard my sis is in labour yet so shes hanging on it there. Her due date is 26th so we expect it anyday now anyway.

isaidno- I too have been nesting since starting maternity leave. Friday i spent 3hours cleaning the sofa with a toothbrush! Odd i know!!
We have a cream leather sofa and chair- Bad move and regret it now! It usually gets cleaned with leather wipes but every now and again i give it a good scrub to clean deep inside the little grains iykwim. Boring job but looks so much nicer and cleaner when its done!

Right off to put a wash on.

purplejennyrose · 18/05/2008 18:35

Hello again all
Thank you for kind comments this morning!
Feeling slightly better but knackered as dd has been really difficult today - not sure why - maybe picking up stuff from us, or maybe just being 2!! I just had to hold her, flailing and kicking, across my lap and make her have her shoes on to come home which made the pain really flare up - while dh read the paper next to me, oblivious, after being asleep...Anyway, he is now doing her bath and bed. Hey ho, on we go.
I am going to pack my hospital bag properly tonight! Bump is moving so much but because very tight and big, she just does lots and lots of jerking which actually can get quite painful! And tons of really strong braxton hicks.
Oh I feel like such a whinger now - sorry!

RUMPEL · 18/05/2008 18:37

Hi All,

Was up at 7.30am hanging out all the baby clothes washed from the attic. Then did some house cleaning and sorting and all sorts - so am now very tired.

My DH is totally doing my head right in just now!!!! Argggg! He was at a gig on Wed another tonight and took some time off to 'do things' of which he has done hardly anything. I get soooo frustrated sometimes as I am constantly tired and feeling crap, hard to bend down now and sore a lot and he is always going on about being tired too and having to go to work etc etc. We just constantly bicker!!! He is away for 3 days tomorrow too. He is good at times and I know it isn't his fault as he has not been the same since his accident but OMG it is frustrating at times! It is me that gets up to see to DD during the night - whinge whinge rant rant - sorry feel better now

Is this just life or is it our hormones making things worse?

TWINKLE - I take note my P+T arriving July.

I ordered a mama tens to hire yesterday - found the tens great last time (up to a point).

PIGLEY - a toothbrush Mine gets cleaned down with a cloth and liquid soap - it gets sooooo messy with a LO. Milk, sticky fingers, crumbs. Gets stuck in all the creases too. Did you order your fancy highchair?

Must go as DD is running rampant and it is time for her toothvbrushing, milk then bed - then peace and quiet - hurrah!!

Take care allxxxx

Mummywannabe · 18/05/2008 18:47

ohh ouch poor DH twinkle and his finger!

My DH got the washing in this afternoon when i was asleep, but when i got up its still wet, When i pointed it out he replied what do you want ME to do! I was tempted to tell him exactly what i want him to do but thought better of it!

Birthplan- can't decide whether i want little one delivered straight onto tummy or wrapped first? any thoughts

Also know i need to wash all babies clothes etc. But what about the cot bumper? Do I need to wash this as well? Obviously doing sheets but do i really need to do this.

pigleychez · 18/05/2008 18:56

mummywanabe- Ive been wondering that about washing too. The stuff that my friend has given me has all been washed but what about the brand new stuff ie most of it!

Some people say wash it all, some say dont bother so im not sure on that one.

re birthplan- although im squimish i dont ill mind baby being abit gooey at that moment and just want to cuddle it!

Rumpel- Im still working on DH on the highchair but its looking unlikely!

Heffa · 18/05/2008 19:42

Twinkle - I hope your DH is OK! How's his finger?

Birthplan - I've just outlined to my DH what I want. I think I'd like LO delivered straight on to my tummy because I was reading about someone saying that they really regretted not having the skin-to-skin contact.

Tens machine - I would like to try one, where's best to hire them from? I don't really know much about them but people keep recommending them to me. I think I need to get used to it before going to the hospital too?

I hope everyone's had a good weekend. I only have one more day of work (tomorrow) before I'm off. Looking forward to it, but also very apprehensive (of any surprises and because I think I'm going to be really sad as well).

Heffa · 18/05/2008 19:42

Ooh Pigley - what highchair are you after?

sweetkitty · 18/05/2008 19:52

Evening everyone sorry been MIA for a few days the sodding pc has been having a fit, keyboard has went haywire and won't work although the mouse still does so have been reading just not posting on old keyboard now though.

Wrote this big message last night and lost the lot too

All good here would say the physio has reduced my pain by about 30% and as long as I am v careful about not overdoing it and the way I sit/lie I'm not doing too bad. I think I dipped about 2 weeks ago with the cold/sinusitis/pulled muscle and the SPD was really bad too but feeling a bit more positive now. Acid reflux is horrible now though.

pigley - I wash everything before the baby has it, even the things from her sisters, don't know why really think I love to smell it all clean and see it flapping in the breeze on the line. Will also iron it all too (something I don't do again though).

mummywannabee - IME definitely up onto your chest if you can, I don't want anyone else to even touch them before me. My first words when DD2 was born was "give her to me" it's the best bit, not gooey at all. MWs will wrap a towel around you both and you can get your breathe back and get those first cuddles.

Rumpel - small world I know exactly what you mean about the 3 towns DP and I couldn't wait to escape. It is very "if it doesn't happen in the 3 towns it doesn't happen IYSWIM" I was lol at Gardners I remember it well. DP and I met in the Metro! I think there must be something in the air, I have been so tired today DP says I have been rubbish company (true) I think they just don't get how exhausting carrying the extra weight is nevermind that the baby is making laods of demands on our bodies.

purplejenny - you whinge away thats what we are here for, got to kick your DH up the bum though sometimes they just need things pointed out to them before they take notice - men eh?!

isaidno - I so need to shampoo the carpets as well but it will have to wait no way no poor pelvis can go through that, well doen you!

twinkle - ouch hope your poor DH is OK!

poledra/disney - hope you are both having a better day today, sorry to hear you are both feeling so low

mcchesers - aww shame you will be moving back to the states I hope we can get a meet up before then, better for you though to be nearer family.

bebejones - aww poor you thinking your waters had gone and it was wee, you will have a few more moments like that don't worry I haven't got my hospital bag packed yet, think I am in complete denial!

Right going to go now sorry for mega post and anyone I have missed off.

twinkle1 · 18/05/2008 20:14

HI all and thanks for the good wishes for DH
He is now home from hosp.He has broken the end off the finger and that bit has broken into bits!!!!! they have taped the skin back together and put hime on super strength anti biotics so the bone will not get infected!!!! and he is off to see the orthopaedic surgeon soon to see about wireing it back together!!!
Phil and ted are getting a very strongly worded letter!!!!!
thanks for the good wishes
twinkle

pigleychez · 18/05/2008 20:15

Heffa- It was this one:

www.urchin.co.uk/product_categories/221/products/4416-mozzee-nest-high-chair

Very little chance of persuading DH though. I do admit it IS alot of money!

sweetkitty · 18/05/2008 20:25

pigley - it's a beautiful highchair, we bought a fancy one for DD1 (not nearly as much as yours though about £100) and it was horrendous, loads of little cracks for food to get down, the straps were white (BAD idea when you are weaning using bright orange carrrots) the side of it burst within months. We used it for a bit with DD2 then threw it out. This time I am going for £14 Ikea one, it's a plastic bucket type (take out back and hose down). I love that one in bright pink though!

Ouch your poor DH twinkle, I broke my thumb a few years ago, shut it in a gate and the bone at the end crushed like a cornflake, it was very painful, laods of painkillers required.

isaidno · 18/05/2008 20:56

I've never made a birth plan; just gone with the flow! I would say get the baby straight away - doesn't matter if it's a bit sticky - you won't care.

Got my scan tomorrow, to check if my placenta is moved. I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hope it has so I can have my home birth! Prob won't sleep too well tonight thinking about it.

MINNIE1 · 19/05/2008 08:44

Twinkle
Ouch Your poor DH..

Feel like s$it this morning, Really sore pains in my legs. Like growing pains which i think i should have grown out of a long time ago! Off to pack hospital bag and deal with lo's.

Hope you all are well..

MINNIE1 · 19/05/2008 08:45

isaidno
Thinking of you and the scan, fingers crossed it has moved.

minipinkscottish · 19/05/2008 09:48

Isaidno - good luck for scan xx

Minkus · 19/05/2008 09:56

Twinkle bleurghh about your poor dh's finger, sounds really painful.

Mummywannabe I will get the baby delivered straight onto me too, like others I won't be able to wait another second to get that lovely new little creature into my arms. I think the mw's tend to give them a quick rub with a towel anyway to help stimulate them so you don't get them absolutely dripping in goo (ds wasn't anyway)

Pigley, we have some cream leather sofas and I must say they are a darn sight easier to keep clean than the other dark brown ones we have! Everything on brown (milk, apple juice, toast crumbs, weetabix, cheese and absolutely anything else you can think of that a toddler could spill) dries/shows up as grey and is v. obvious. Takes a lot of cleaning which doesn't really get done in our house so they always look grubby! But the cream ones are a dream, light grey doesn't show up so they always look a lot better Leather is great in comparison to fabric for child proofing I think.

I feel bad for moaning about dh and his hobbies now, he took ds and I out for a lovely day yesterday, had a wander round a pretty local town, nice lunch and then a bit of shopping! He bought me a lovely skirt- it's not maternity but has a huge stretchy panel that you're supposed to roll over if you're a non pregnant skinny sort and so goes over my tummy perfectly! I'm not a surfy person normally but thought this v pretty. So he's back in the good books now (I'm so fickle!)

Ds is at home with me today instead of nursery as dh's car needs fixing so he's taken mine instead and nursery is 15 miles away, had planned some nesting/personal admin activities but will have to chill out with him instead how terrible

Have a good day all! xx

isaidno · 19/05/2008 10:20

Bad news from me
Had scan, then internal scan to check but placenta has not moved enough. Sonographer said it was unlikely to move much more. Not complete placenta preavia, but my home birth is pretty out of the question.

Got mw appt tomorrow morning, and now a consultant appt tomorrow afternoon to discuss implications.

Feel disappointed and worried now. But at least bay was fine and happy, and there was definitely no willy!

Nice skirt btw minkus.

Heffa · 19/05/2008 10:38

Isaidno - sorry to hear that I hope you're not feeling too down. I'm sure it will all be fine, but it must be disappointing that you can't have the home birth.

Pigley - that is a lovely high chair! I want a TrippTrapp one because my sister said it was excellent.

Twinkle - that's awful about your DH! I hope P&T are apologetic.

I think I may be starting to get BH, which is exciting although a bit uncomfortable.

Last day at work today, feels very surreal. I'm quite tempted to email back all my really awful patrons telling them that I don't care, I'm not here for a whole year. Probably best not to though.

libralady · 19/05/2008 10:39

isaidno

Sorry about your scan results.

Sorry toeveryone else, I haven't had the time to catch up on 2 weeks worth of 'chat'.

Went and saw my consultant this morning and after an hour of monitoring, they have allowed me home but have suggested I go to my MW or GP and be signed off for the rest of the week to rest and chill out as I am showing signs of stress and tiredness (well what do you expect after the last couple of weeks!)
Phoned work and it's gone down like a lead balloon as expected.
At least DS is in nursery so I can get my head down for a few hours.
Now I feel like I've been hit by a bus. Everything is aching and I was soooo uncomfortable on Saturday night I resorted to taking some paracetamol and codeine to ease the aches.
Aches not too bad today but feel like I could sleep for 10 hours (if only).
Phoned DH and he said well at least the weather is due to be getting better for the rest of the week so you can top up your tan! Bless him.
Well off to the Drs in a bit to get my certificate.
Hope others are well, and whilst I'm off I'll try to catch up on what has been happening.

sweetkitty · 19/05/2008 10:43

isaidno - aww poor you I know you wanted a homebirth too but getting the baby out safe and sound is the main thing. I don't want to go too into it on this thread but I have a close friend who had an undiagnosed placenta previa and it resulted in the worst possible outcome you can think of, a complete catastrophy of errors. At least you know there is a problem and it can be addressed. As long as you get that precious little girl in your arms how she gets here doesn't really matter.

minkus - glad you had a nice day yesterday nice skirt looks v comfy that will be good for after the birth too

I was away buying baby presents for my friends new little boy this morning, I have just thought about it and I have bought 4 baby presents since last July all for boys, every baby born at toddlers recently has been a boy so there is about 6 newborn boys there. Oh well I always buck the trend. It was strange as when I had the DDs it was all girls.

BHs have started as well ouch forgot about them, shouldn't say ouch as compared to a proper contraction they are nothing

sweetkitty · 19/05/2008 10:44

libralady - I'm not surprised you are feeling a bit stressed, you rest up and take it easy sod work baby and you much more important.
