I have a first-timer question too...how does the midwife know how big the baby is? Some of you have mentioned it's weight etc...is there some sort of customised growth chart and if so, should I be asking my MW to do one for me? Looking at my pregnancy notes before I moved trust, it mentions going to this site to create my own! I hate now knowing what to expect from my MW!

jocesar · 12/05/2008 18:24

Lilyto the B- I'm a 1st timer and I was convinced that my baby was lying transvere as I am getting kicked/punched low down on each side. Had my 32wk midwife appt today and she showed me that baby is in the correct position and is actually engaged in the pelvis. Now that she's showed me I can feel the bum (big hard thing) and the head (smaller hard thing).

Just bought some Raspberry leaf tea- tastes fine but how much should I drink. also bought some arnica and rescue remedy- I'm a sceptic but willing to try anything!

Peanut73 · 12/05/2008 18:25

Hi tafftaff. I was just catching up on the day's conversation and saw what you wrote about the lady at your work having her baby! Man, that is scary. You and I are due on the same date I think - 8 July?

Minnie1 - just for fun I will guess you're having a boy then I can be proven right or wrong tomorrow!

pigleychez · 12/05/2008 18:27

Hello all,

Thanks for all the nice comments on the pics. I havent been able to stop looking at them and everytime i watch the DVD i spot something new.

DH managed to upload the DVD onto Youtube... Heres the link if anyone wants to have a look. Theres only about 7 minutes of it.

BabyPigley!

Can i join the hairy belly club please? im covered in fine little hairs!

Jodie- My DH's name is Jamie Not James though, was Jamie from day one.

Had my first full nights sleep in weeks which was fab! - Still feel tired though!

Libra- Thanks for the heads up about the shorts.. I have one pair of chocolate brown linen shorts which have been fab and have been lived in lately but they do need a wash and if its going to stay nice then ill need more (especially with Maternity leave looming)

On that note- That was my last Monday at work!! woo hoo
3 more days!

SK- Things like that havent been attempted for a long time!Let alone twice! thankfully DH hasnt complained yet

NikNaf- Wow! Makes it all feel real! too real!!

Lily- I can def make out big round bits- but not sure if its head or bum!
Also feel lots of small lumps which are either hands, feet or elbows.

LilyToTheB · 12/05/2008 18:28

Hi jocesar - that's good to know. The midwife can tell you then! Good that your baby's in the right position already eh!
I don't really have a clue what to feel for! There's definitely more movements in some places than others so hopefully the mw can tell me.
I'm 31 weeks tomorrow! Can't believe going to have a baby in 9 weeks!!

Peanut73 · 12/05/2008 18:28

jocesar - I bought raspberry leaf tea today too. I think I read somewhere that you should start with just a cup a day?? Also, I've been getting kicks down low on both sides so thought the baby was transverse too. If your baby's head is engaged can you still feel it that low down?

LilyToTheB · 12/05/2008 18:30

Forgot to say, I brought raspberry leaf tea over the weekend too, the man in holland & barrat didn't want to sell it to me as apparently you should only drink it if recommended by your midwife???

sweetkitty · 12/05/2008 18:50

Have just measured bump with measuring tape a la MWs, measures 32 1/2cms top to bottom (am nearly 32 weeks) width all around 94cms, think I'm going to try and remember to do it weekly now.

minipinkscottish · 12/05/2008 19:01

Great pics pigleychez - glad scan was a success this time

SK - omg TWICE

Potty training - my ds age 2 was showing absolutely no interest and tbh I was feeling too tired to be bothered at the moment....however, last night before bath dd was going for a wee and ds said "me wee wee too mummy" so I sat him up on the loo and he did a big wee - Bless him he was so chuffed with himself and whole gang ended up in bathroom giving him a clap He hasn't done it again though ....but at least I know he will when he's ready!!

Peanut this little one is too small to engage properly so keeps popping out and turning round which at this gestation is normal esp as I had to go without my tummy support so more wriggle room. But I can feel when they are down that low it is uncomfortable for one and feels like they are about to fall out.

I can also feel elbows and hands when they dig in and stretch out a bit.

I did the antenatal stuff when I trained as a paediatric nurse so I can tell the difference between head and bum externally too.

I have just emailed a friend who works in the antenatal department of the hospital I intend to deliver at an asked if they have a nice consultant who will listen and explain things rather than just say because that's the way we do things and will be happy about me wanting as natural delivery as I can and only talk about interventions if and when I need them not at my first meeting with them

sweetkitty · 12/05/2008 20:25

Just having a bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes I am a bottomless pit right now. DP gone out for a run so all quiet here.

Am in absolute agony tonight, hurts when I move so I don't move then it hurts more when I do

RUMPEL · 12/05/2008 20:46

Hi All,

Hope everyone is well - haven't checked out all yuour bumps etc as yet - so busy and by the time I've caught up with all you chatterboxes I have other stuff to do .

Had a very busy weekend - DD managed to pass on her cold to me last week so am once again full of congested sinuses and snot! My bro and neice came through on Frid and satyed over, then Sat we had some friends over for a BBQ which was nice - good to have chat. felt a bit sorry for them though as DD is very very cuddly and was all over female friend like a rash - she said she wasn't giving her back to me - they can't have kids so felt really for them.

Finally heard from another friend too - have been really worried about her as she has had 4 mc and is now 6 months gone but had a scan scare - didn't know what but it turns out she has been through hell. They thought babyu may have Edwards' Syndrome or some other horrible chromosomal disorder so she has to have an amnio and wait for results. Thankfully no chromosomal abnormalities but LO had feet back to front so will need ops to fix them. She is going to the same orthopod as my DH had though and she is excellent so hopefully all will be well.

Spent all day doing house work today as house was atip after visitors - feels better now. Nice to see all the cloth mappies on the line outside too

No bags packed for me as yet - DH is off a few days over the next 2 weeks so will get some bits this week and start packing. Also start washing baby stuff. My tumble drier packed in so new one coming Thurs but weather has been good anyway.

No sex here and will be none until baby is about 7 months probably .

I have no idea where baby is either. I get kicks and punches all over - I think this wee one is still somersaulting - I can feel a bum and head now and again but no pattern -too much padding methinks

I am going to order my Tens tomorrow - hiring one this time - found it fantastic last time.

Just beginning to sort out the house for littly now - been too busy before.

KAZ - what happened with your diabetic test?

How are all you laides sitting exams and studying gettig on now? I am still awaitng results [terrified emoticon].

Must go as Dh is waiting for me to go watch Lost with him.

Hope you are all well - anyone heard how MONKEY is? Keep thinking about her.

xxxxxx

Kaz1967 · 12/05/2008 21:26

RUMPEL I have not had the GTT done my midwife did not get back to me about an alternative for lucusade and I am having a hormonal strop about having to have it done because a low blood sugar makes me feel really unwell. Hospital no happy but neither am I at the because reason for having it done when I have no symptoms or predisposing factors other than my weight. Basically told them if they want me to take daily (or more often) blood sugars fine but not eating and having a large amount of sugar makes me feel that unwell without a reasonable discussion including them PRODUCING the actually evidence behind this or me getting symptoms or a raised blood sugar I am not putting my self through it.

Problem is the more they treat me like a child (because that is how I feel) the more stubborn I will get on this one. They forget I was a nurse or nearly 20 years (the bloody doctor I saw today was a child when I qualified) and I do not accept every word that comes out of their mouth as gospel. And patronising me will not work either that tactic was tried today.

ok rant over now

I have a maths exam on Thursday and a presentation tomorrow plus a couple of other bits.

gillythekid · 12/05/2008 21:29

God it's freaky to think hat someone due in July has already had their baby, I'm nowhere near ready! I've been so low today, my pelvis gave way in Tesco and I had to hobble to the car, my girdle can't even save me now. Been on all fours for hours trying to coax baba away from my spine, it hurts soooo much.
Finally posted some pics,my mum might actually have a point, I look MASSIVE compared to you lot!!

nannyjo · 12/05/2008 21:32

just a quick interuption sorry

Does anyone else have milk yet??? only 31 + weeks and i get a little milk or crusty nipples at night (sorry if TMI!! )

Just wondered, thanks

JODIEhavingababy · 12/05/2008 21:38

this is amazing

I hope that works, my friend told me about it yesterday...

I read somewhere that if you measure from the top of your pelvis to the top of your bump, it shoul be 1cm for every week you are preggers..... So SK should be about right. I've not tried it yet though.

I should hve gone to Aqua tonight, but I've felt rubbish all day, I only walked to the shops and back (about 20 mins) and I was having stomach cramps, then I felt really sick... It scared me abit, I think it's time to start slowing down esp. in this heat.... It did put the fear of god into me though!

KAZ Glad everything went well, how did they take it that you didn't want your 'lucozade' test? I assume it was OK?

Pigley - how cute is that video, how she keeps missing her mouth with her thumb, she'll be beautiful... See I'm still convinced it's a girl, and KAZ's is a boy!! How strange... Oh well, I've a 50% chance of being wrong on both accounts!

I've been thinking of MONKEY24 alot too, I really hope she's OK....

JODIEhavingababy · 12/05/2008 21:49

Gosh I crossed posts with a few of you then....

I've started to get crusty bits in my bras, but nly on the one side, which was my good side last time... No proper leakage yet though.

Gilly - your pictures are lovely and you don't look massive, you are just right!

Where DS goes to Nursery the new owner is due on the 5th July and the manager on the 20th and I am sooo much bigger than both of them!! I've also had the whole, 'not long now' comments and the shocked faces when I say, I'm still only 31 weeks!

sweetkitty · 12/05/2008 22:15

Just watched Teen High or something on BBC2 about teenage mums and this 13yo girl was having a home waterbirth with about 30 of her relatives present. She did ever so well and I was blubbing like a baby at the end.

gilly - you so do not look huge you look absolutely fine and beautifully pregnant

kaz - do they test you wee regularly I assume they do, so if there was sugar in it that would be the first sign of GD. I think it's a pile of poo them just doing it because you have a higher than average BMI. I agree sometimes the medical preofession tend to treat everyone as being a bit well thick.

Jodie - yes thats right 1cm for every week of pregnancy although it's not an exact science, I measured from the top just under my bra but the bottom could be a cm or so out but I'm roughly the size I should be and everyone tells me I am so neat and such a little bump.

MINNIE1 · 12/05/2008 22:24

Lily,
Sorry i did'nt mean to make you feel silly, i do have a way with words!! I think i feel this one more so then i did with DD's..

SK
Gut feeling is that this one is a girl. Understand what you mean on the deflated part. This will also be our last and would be lovely to have a boy. I think that is why i am finding out in advance so i get time to get used to the idea of 3 daughters.

Nannyjo
Have been havin the leaky boobs for quiet some time!! Use bra pads it save getting the crusty bits HAd to buy some 2 weeks ago as i ened up in a coffee shop showing lovely wet spots

Gilly
Your bump is lovely, it may feel massive but its not.

Peanut,
Judgement day tommorw

disneystar · 12/05/2008 22:26

pigley
Love the 4D scan, so cute.

disneystar · 12/05/2008 22:31

also my appetite has seriously gone away im just not hungry i feel so sick again in the mornings just like early pregnancy
i dont want to snack and i just dont fancy anything
anyone else had this?

TJuice · 12/05/2008 22:32

SK in one day???
we are managing once or twice a week which i was well pleased with but twice in one day is really physically impressive . . .
still doing the same positions but with pillows - now i am wondering if i am squishing LO too much. always something to worry about . . .

Rumpel - glad your friend's little one is okay. that sounds like a really serious operation to fix her feet. makes my heart ache when little tiny babies have to have ops like that.

taff - that is well scary! i need to get that bag packed because i am technically due on the 26th june so it could be anytime. aaargh. also, they use a tape measure on me and kind of feel the ends of the baby, if you know what i mean. and then i think calculate weight based on that?? i think the baby whisperer is a little weird but then i only started it last night and was very tired. i mean, i like the whole "respect your baby" thing and i doubt i will be a coochy-coo babytalk person (haven't been up to this point but you never know) but i can't imagine being so serious with my kid. still, i think you can take a little from each book, right??

does anyone have any advice re. pigmentation change during pregnancy - i am getting so patchy. I use factor 50 on my face but its still there. does anything safely fade the marks or is there a good foundation to cover it?

Kaz1967 · 12/05/2008 22:41

JODIE not particularly well no I just went quiet when I questioned the evidence behind it and got another because answer it does not wash with me. I was not having the best of days so was not in full argumentative mode but I have said my bit and although they think I will just comply I will not without the explanations I want.

sweetkitty yep every time and always been neg to everything she tried to fob me off about that too bit I know the make they use too and I know it is over sensitive when it comes to sugar and will pick up the most insignificant smidge feel a little sorry for my midwife think she is going to get it in the neck about me not having it and at the end of the day it is my choice and I do not have to have it without there being a clinical reason.

TJuice · 12/05/2008 22:42

sorry - i always sit on my posts and don't send them for ages.

gilly - you look amazing - so not huge at all

i loved that timelapse video - its so cool.
