The dreams are weird aren't they and very off-putting, I had one the other night where I had the baby I just couldn't bond with it, I knew I loved it and everything I just didn't bond. Upset me so much I had to go and crawl into bed for a hug with DH who is currently banished to the spare room because of snoring.

TJuice I haven't even started my hospital bag yet (but have listed the contents ) but I have the attention span of a goldfish which is why I have moved on to the contents of a nappy bag already
Also I love the name Eloise, we are currently mulling over Heloise as we love Ellie as a nickname. Think Matilda is cool as well.

Peanut73 · 12/05/2008 10:33

OOoohhh Tjuice! My 'girl' name is Tallulah! You're the first person I've come across who is thinking along the same lines! My other faves are Freya, Tilly, Esther, Lotte, and Bella. For a boy my fave is Charlie Alexander.

Sorry - you just jolted me out of a half-sleepy state!

Morning ladies!!

Pigley - the scans are lovely - very moving!

Libra - I will be following that link to Dotty P right after this - THANK YOU, you're a lifesaver (leg saver anyway! Oh, does that mean I have to actually shave my legs now...?)

Jodie/Heffa - welcome to the furry belly club! Come on ladies, there's a gap in the market here for some sort of maternity product to combat unsightly bump hair!!

Good luck to everyone with appointments today.

xx

isaidno · 12/05/2008 11:01

nappy bag contents -
nappies (2 or 3 depending how long you plan to be out for)
wipes
nappy sacks / waterproof bag if using washables
nappy cream if you're using it (most disposables don't recommend you use any)
change of clothes (especially in early days when leakage is more common)

Most changing bags come with a travel change mat, which is useful.

Plus you might need..
breast pads if you're bf
bottle / bib if you're ff
muslin to soak up sick
spare dummy

Don't forget you'll have to find space for your purse / keys / etc. It is no wonder nappy bags are so big!

As baby gets older you will need less nappies / spare clothes, but more rattles etc!

sweetkitty · 12/05/2008 12:37

Just thought of the contents of my nappy bag when I go anywhere:

  • two bottles of juice
  • some sort of snack banana, raisins or some biscuits
  • 2 or 3 pull ups
  • wipes
  • pants for DD1
  • spare trousers for both
  • toilet wipes for public toilets
  • hankies
  • umbrella
  • phone, purse, keys, comb
  • 2 colouring in books and pencils

no wonder it's like a sack and I will have to fit in a newborn outfit and some nappies

pigley - I so think you are having a boy causing all that trouble

May have to take a trip to Dotty P's for some shorts although it is actually quite cold here today maybe those few days were our Summer.

Paying for walking a bit yesterday so quite sore am going to attempt some ironing later just a little bit then do something with the DDs but apart from that am doing nothing.

DP and I managed to do the deed twice yesterday what a joke though, theres only one position thats even half comfy, I feel so tender downstairs it's quite offputting but I felt sorry for him he's been really good on rations for so long.

JODIEhavingababy · 12/05/2008 12:48

SK - TWICE?????????? Wow!

Our electrics been off all moring, I've been so bored, so I went back to bed! Lovely...

In my new born nappy bag was...

Spare carton of Aptimil
5-6 nappies
1 change of clothes (just a babygrow)
Nappy wipes
2 bottles
nappy cream
spare dummy
muslin
spare blanket
Also my crap, wallet phone etc...

Was quite hefty!

I also made sure anything I used I replaced as soon as I got home, so that when it came to leave the house it was just a matter of picking it up and going! otherwise it took forever!

isaidno · 12/05/2008 12:49

SK - I think it's about I treated dh before he explodes!!

Heffa · 12/05/2008 12:52

The dreams are really weird aren't they? I keep having horrid nightmares.

Baby's giving me hell today, I think she may have shifted into head-down position because it feels like I'm being headbutted in the pelvis.

Tjuice - my employer keeps giving me new things to do as well. I've been doing a lot of the stuff for a while now and trying to show people how to do it when I leave but no-one's been interested. Now they're panicking because I'm going and they don't know what to do. Grrr!

Sorry if this has already been asked, but what is everyone else putting in the hospital bag? I'm packing mine on and off but keep getting really confused (I'm hoping this is the "fog of pregnancy" thing and not just me being thick).

sweetkitty · 12/05/2008 13:20

Jodie - well without wanting to divulge too much lets just say we were interrupted in the morning (children don't you love them) and had to reschedule for when they were in bed last night. First timers take note your sex life will never be the same again! I used to love Sundays lie in sex followed by going out for leisurely brunch and actually READING the Sunday papers.

MINNIE1 · 12/05/2008 13:38

Hi all,
SK TWICE Sex what is that! I cant wait to get back to DP and i having our moments. I'm to big and there is only one way that is ok.

Potty training went out the window yesterday Dont think she is ready. Wetting herself just after i put her on the loo so will leave it for a while i think!

Hope you are all doing ok. Have a scan tommorw and please let this little baby co-operate this time as i want to know the sex. So bets are on girls what will it be????????

sweetkitty · 12/05/2008 15:16

Minnie - I have given up potty training DD2 as well, after 6 days we didn't have anything on the potty or toilet. She would do a pee then say "not on the floor on the potty!" straight after. She knows exactly what is going on but is either not feeling the need to go or is being plain stubborn, probably the latter knowing her as DD2 does nothing she does not want to do ever! At the moment she has to climb into the car seat by herself and do the harness up which she cannot do but try to tell her that so I end up doing it she has a tantrum and I spend the time driving with her screaming in the background banging her head off the car seat.

Right I don't know about the sex of your baby do you have any feelings either way? Hope all is revealed to you tomorrow.

Am having a rubbish kind of day had all the hosuework done this morning but DDs have since wrecked the house and I just cannot be bothered.

LilyToTheB · 12/05/2008 15:28

Hi everyone!

Just been catching up on the weekend's posts, hope you all had a good one and are enjoying the lovely weather.

Re. dreams, I've been having really weird dreams lately, dreamt someone was trying to kill me ladst night & woke up sweating, the heat is probably making them worse.

Can't be bothered to do any housework either, of all you with cleaners!

May be a silly first-timer question, but can you tell which way your baby is lying? Hasn't been mentioned at any of my mw appointments

NikNakF · 12/05/2008 16:41

SK TWICE!!!!!!! or should I say

Hi guys,

Just had to share this - girl at work who is due beginning of July, same as me and meant to start Mat Leave next week same as me had her baby boy last night!!! All are well, but how very scary!! It could be anytime...

x

tafftaff · 12/05/2008 16:44

Hi all,

Hope you are getting the chance to enjoy the lovely weather today. I've just been out for a coffee in a lovely cafe with outdoor seating and called DP just to let him know...a bit mean seeming he's sitting in an air conditioned office!

TJuice, I am re-reading the Baby Whisperer. What are you thinking of it? I've had a go at reading Gina Ford but the whole strict routine schedule just doesn't sit well with me. I'd rather get to know my baby than force it into a routine! Somehow I have a feeling that I will end up eating my words and becoming the world's biggest Gina fan if the baby doesn't settle into a more natural routine!

I went to my first NCT antenatal class the other day and I must say that I am so much more at ease about this whole birthing process. So much so that I am ordering books left, right and centre to help me deal with the pain naturally with a view that if I need something stronger then I still have that option but that I don't panic immediately and demand an epidural! Again, bound to eat my words and ask for one after the first contraction!

Belly hair...well, I have the joys of that too! Not too bad really but have always been quite hairy (half German!!!) so nothing too unexpected. Concerning the Lady garden, Oh my god! Fortunately, I can just about see it still so managed to tend to it over the weekend!!!!

I managed to get my free nappy bag from Boots the other day...very exciting, my first nappy bag! I've decided that I am going to give it a go and when I've figured out what the hell I am meant to put in it then I'll buy myself a nice Animal (or other surfy brand) one and DP can have the boots one!

Am loving seeing everyones bumps. I must get a picture of mine posted too.

Anyway, hope all MW appts etc... are going to plan and that everyone's feeling well.

tafftaff · 12/05/2008 16:45

NikNak, that is scary! There is no way that I am near prepared for the LO yet!

MINNIE1 · 12/05/2008 16:45

SK
Sounds just like my lady! Going to wait and hopefully she will train herself as for housework!!! it's to nice outside for housework is todays excuse

As for the sex of this baby, Its really 50/50 different pregnancy then last two but gut feeling it's a girl.

Lilytotheb
My little one is head down and legs are kicking to the right. Where are you most getting the kicks?

DD's playing outside, have to cook dinner and i hate the thoughts!

LilyToTheB · 12/05/2008 16:52

NikNak - oh my god, that's a bit scary! I'm nowhere near prepared for the little one's arrival just yet!

Minnie1 - Hmmm getting movements mostly quite high up in the middle, and smaller kicks very low down! What does that mean? Got a MW appt on Weds so going to ask then

MINNIE1 · 12/05/2008 16:52

Nik nak
X posts
OMG !!!! better get bags packed.

Even though this is the third it still scares the sh%t out of me to think i am going to give birth within the next 9 weeks..

Kaz1967 · 12/05/2008 16:57

LilyToTheB I know which what round this one is because I can tell where their feet are. Now I am really getting kicked it is more obvious but even before I could tell. During the scan today the monster was head down (head was actually engaged which as a little scary) But since then I know we are the other way up because I just got kicked in my bladder

JODIE Scan was fine fibroids are well away from my cervix I just feel so frustrated with the bloody consultant team. They just do not listen. It is not my imagination they seem to want to stick me on an epidural as soon as I get in there

MINNIE1 · 12/05/2008 16:59

Lily.
They can kick in any direction. Main thing is long as you are feeling movements. Ask midwife next day.

sweetkitty · 12/05/2008 17:22

Did a basket of ironing today still got about another 3 to go though, still it's start. Better afternoon here but v windy so not really garden weather.

Don't you all be of my erm activities that will probably be it for about 6 months. Theres just no point really nothing is comfy, can't go that way or that, oh no thats far too sore reminds me of being 10 pregnant and having that "sex is supposed tp start labour sex" the hurry up and get it over with kind. Still makes you laugh.

Minnie - I had a feeling this one was a boy but no another girl so you never know, I will admit I was a bit deflated finding out another girl not for having a girl as they are great as you knwo but that we will never have a boy, but you know now I am so up for 3 little girls. I probably would feel sorry for a little boy having these two for big sisters he wouldn't have a chance lol.

I'm also scared s*&^less at the thought of labour and birth again you would think I would be all prepared but no, just hope it's fast DP is here and the DDs don't see or hear too much. Another plus point is that once the baby is out all the nasty pelvic pain will go too.

kaz - I have found that with consultants too last time I had an appointment with one who was discussing induction and saying homebirth was dangerous and I shouldn't be considering it. The thing is they only really see high risk pregnancies and not a nice calm birth at home or with just MWs present. Yes it can go wrong but a lot of the time it goes right we just don't hear about those ones IYSWIM. You stick to your guns have the birth YOU want.

I am planning to pack a bag about the start of June, am still in denial before then. I am also working on the premise that DD1 wasn't that prepared came early, DD2 all prepared thought she would be early too came late so this one I am thinking she will be late too, you get it? If I am not prepared chances are she will turn up.

LilyToTheB · 12/05/2008 17:25

OK feel a bit sily now I know the baby can kick in all directions, but people seem to know which way their babies are lying & just wondered how you knew, cos I don't have a clue!

sweetkitty · 12/05/2008 17:31

Don't feel silly lily last time I had a student MW and whilst she was prodding em I got MW to teach me too thats how I know I have a bum under my ribs. It's not just kicks you get but them turning, punching, rolling etc

Next MW appointment she should be able to tell you which way round baby is.

LilyToTheB · 12/05/2008 17:44

Cool, thanks sweetkitty, I will definitely ask on Weds at next appointment!

I guess it's hard to know if it's your first & you have no info on it!

isaidno · 12/05/2008 17:54

lily - you can prob feel a hard round bit - could be head or bottom. Big kicks usually mean the feet are there, smaller kicks are more likely to be punches. I find it hard to tell whether it is bum or head, and I'm on number 3!

LilyToTheB · 12/05/2008 17:59

Hee hee - it still hasn't sunk it that there's a baby in there, let alone identifying body parts!
Definitely a big sticky out bit higher up & getting more movements there.. will have to make a mental note of what's moving where!
