Gilly - your pictures are lovely. I had a look at your profile page on the way to your photos and noticed you live just around the corner from me (I'm Islington/Dalston way). Also, what were you doing in the South Island, NZ? That's my homeland! I'm 34 too and have lived in London for 4 years now. Anyway, thought your photos were lovely and actually don't think you look massive at all, you look about the same size as me.

No sign of leakage here yet nannyjo - I will keep you posted!

isaidno · 13/05/2008 07:45

lovely bump gilly - and very cool wedding outfit!

tafftaff · 13/05/2008 08:34

Morning all,

Sometimes this thread is just too spooky! Here you all are talking about leakage and what should happen to me in the middle of the night, yeps...the right breast started leaking! The funny bit is, if there is a funny bit, that I was so sleepy and confused that I didn't know what it was. At first I thought I had squirted the handwash, after my midnight pee, too hard and landed it on my boob, then I thought I might have dribbled excessively in my sleep, then I thought it was blood because it was really sticky AND eventually came to the conclusion is was leakage! So...am now off to buy breast pads. Can you guys recommend any in particular? I think someone mentioned Lilypadz but somehow it doesn't feel right restricting the flow!!! Also, what does one do in the night? Am I doomed to wearing a bra with pads or will a towel do the job! Sorry, it seems like all I do is ask questions all the time but you guys are the oracle as far as I am concerned.

Oooo, just to let you know, it was NikNak that had the friend that had the baby early...still super scary though!

gillythekid · 13/05/2008 08:43

Hey Peanut73 DH and I were on our honeymoon in your homeland, that pic was taken at Lake Wanaka. We LOVED NZ, I have family there and have been meaning to go for the past 20 years.
Looks like we're almost neighbours then! I'm just near Well St Common/Victoria Park although we'll have to move nearer the end of the year as we only have one bedroom. Would love to stay round here and rent a 2 bedroom place but it's ridiculously expensive.

Libra1975 · 13/05/2008 09:13

In 10 minutes I am going to calm down and read everyones posts and reply nicely but just for now I need to rant.
This morning when I got on the tube I spotted a seat and lumbered towards it, a young girl actually PUSHED PAST ME to get the seat. Not squeezed behind me but actually had to go past my stomach to get to this seat.
I am speechless (well not really) with rage....

Heffa · 13/05/2008 09:31

That sucks Libra! I can't believe how unaware/unkind/rubbish people can be about pregnant women Did you manage to get a seat in the end?

My DH has been making me drink Floradix for the iron - it's not too bad actually and feels like it might help a tad although the taste is a bit . I've been having one cup of raspberry leaf tea a day. I've heard loads of conflicting advice about when to start it but it doesn't seem to be doing any harm. The box just said to avoid it in early pregnancy - and I'm guessing we're no longer in early pregnancy?

I think I can tell which way round the baby's lying, but I might be completely wrong. I'll get my midwife to show me, as it would be nice to know.

Gilly - your pictures are beautiful! You look fantastic. I love your wedding outfit, it's really cool.

Peanut73 · 13/05/2008 09:36

Libra - young girls are the WORST! It is unbelievable isn't it?! I'm sorry you had to go through that. Why don't they realise?

I had a similar experience on the bus when a guy was getting off and motioned for me to take his seat. A girl in her early 20s barged past me and sat in the seat. I was so annoyed I thought I'd speak up for once and asked if I could have the seat. She got up for me and gave a big annoyed sigh. I said "sorry, it's just that it's hard standing with all these bags on the bus when you're pregnant". She said "well, it's hard being at work all day too!" (Yes, I know, I was at work all day myself).

Then she exploded and said "and anyway, why should I have ANY sympathy for you just because you're PREGNANT?!" Anyway it was horrible and made me think no wonder the world is so f*ed up!!

isaidno · 13/05/2008 09:39

I've just had my cup of raspberry leaf tea. I am having 1 a day at the mo (am 32 + 5) At 34 weeks I will go up to 2 a day, 36 weeks, 3 a day, 37 weeks 4 a day - which I think is maximum.

I'm pretty sure this is more or less what I did last time.

Went to meeting of the local home birth support group, and I'm all excited about labour and birth again!

Anyone else beginning to nest? I have washed the car seat covers, the baby clothes, and everything else you can think of. I can feel house cleaning coming on soon...

Libra1975 · 13/05/2008 10:07

right calmed down a little now

Thanks everyone for the nappy bag contents/advice. Still not sure if it's worth shelling out for a adanyc one of not.

As for the where the baby is lying thing, we no there is a hard lump just under the right side of my ribs but neither of us are able to tell if it's head or bottom,
whatever it is it must be getting annoyed with us prodding it trying to work it out! We can't tell from the kicks and wiggles as it still seems to have it's own personal supply of Red Bull and gets everywhere.

Tafftaff/TJuice. I have read the baby whisperer as well and fully intend to try and implement it. (Are the already mothers laughing at me yet?) I don't think you have to be baby talk at them, I already talk to mine, usually when I'm in Tesco and deciding what to have for supper. I think what she says about over-stimulating the baby is correct that a lot of people now spend too much time fussing over it and it can't process it.

Minnie1 I think you are having a boy! (I flipped a coin)

Haffa, no didn't get a seat. People were practicing tube blindess. I don't mind when the tube is busy and it's difficult to see a pregnant woman but today and yesterday it was OBVIOUS there was a pregnant woman standing and no-one moved. I don't really want special treatment it's just MANNERS.
Gillythekid, you look fantastic, 7 months pregnant and still stylish in the park! I just bung on whatever is clean and fits!

Peanut7, again it's just manners if I only have one stop to go I often just thank them and say don't worry but not to be offered or in yourcase for someone to be rude is just making.

No leaky boobs yet and I get grumpy if I don't get my oats once a week.

Still no nesting with regard to cleaning the house, DH is awaiting this particular aspect with interest.

Libra1975 · 13/05/2008 10:08

adanyc = fancy.

tafftaff · 13/05/2008 10:31

Libra I am going to have a go at doing the Baby Whisperer too (more sniggles from experienced mums!). I like her philosophy and DP is reading it too now so we can make a joint effort at making it work..it's no good if he comes home and over-stimulates the baby and then all the hard work is lost!

I can't believe that people can be so rude and not offer you a seat. I always get up (even now at 7 mths) if it looks like someone needs the seat more than me...and as far as I am concerned, a hard day at work doesn't qualify you to have a seat over a heavily pregnant/elderly person (not the same but feels like it sometimes!).

Have not had the desire to clean the house at all yet! The only nesting I have had is to write loads of lists, bake (and eat) loads of cakes and knitting! Am still on the same blanket that I started 2/3mths ago and it is only 1/3 done! Peanut...you totally put me to shame and I love the jedi robe!

TJuice · 13/05/2008 10:35

i think its so effin' rude! what a bitch that 20 something was to answer back like that. wait til she's pregnant . . .where is the chivalry in the world these days??

sorry, rant over.

MINNIE1 · 13/05/2008 10:44

Libra
The little witch, What does be wrong with people! Manners go along way, and i think it's the downfall of our world today...
Hope your right on the coin flipping..

DD's slept in till 8.30 and DP laid in till 6.30 which ended use in a naughty situation Think i felt sorry for him as it had been a while..

Scan is at 4.30 and i soooo cant wait to check in on this little one.. Weather is lovely here today. Girls were playing outside but keep following the dog into the house next door!!! which i then have to run up the road and get into neighbours house to get them!! DP was ment to put chicken wire up but never did!! aghhhh

MINNIE1 · 13/05/2008 10:47

The baby wisperer, was she on a TV programe?

MINNIE1 · 13/05/2008 10:50

Just looked it up there and it is the same person i was thinking of. Her methods made alot of sense and i know i used a couple from her pregrame. So well worth a read of her book.

tafftaff · 13/05/2008 10:54

I must try and find that TV programme somewhere as would be useful to see it in practice! Good to know that you thought it made sense.

Shall we start a new thread cursing those that do not give up their seats for pregnant ladies? I bet it will get filled pretty quickly!

Heffa · 13/05/2008 11:05

Is the Baby Whisperer good then? I've been reading Gina Ford and some of it makes (some) sense but the routines seem soooo strict.

I can't believe people behave so badly on public transport. Luckily I haven't had to use it since I got pregnant but it sounds miserable. Can't believe the witch that answered back to Peanut!

Peanut73 · 13/05/2008 11:10

Minnie1 - I am bubbling over with excitement over your scan and finding out the sex!! I must be living vicariously through you as I didn't find out the sex of my LO and I'm slightly jealous!! You must let us know as soon as you get home!!

I heard the Baby Whisperer is awesome and I have a friend with a 5 month old who swears by it. Must buy it on my way home tonight.

Tafftaff - the weather's not very conducive to knitting at the moment is it? Think I should knit myself something Princess Leia-esque and then I can dress up in that, put LO in the jedi robe and we can look like Leia and Yoda together.

tafftaff · 13/05/2008 11:13

What I like about it is that she makes it very clear that it is about integrating your baby into your family and not making your family fit around the baby and the prescribed routine. By knowing what the baby is telling you you should be able to understand what it needs without assuming that it is always that it is hungry, e.g., could be overstimulated, tired etc... She still recommends a routine but not one that says, wake up at 7, feed baby no later than 7.30 etc... Plus there is time set aside for you!

It's super easy to read but takes a while to pick out all the relevant bits. I am rereading it now as it isn't clear what I should be doing as soon as the baby comes home whereas Gina makes that crystal clear!

Libra1975 · 13/05/2008 11:16

tafftaff I agree it isn't crystal clear with newborn and I got a bit confused about how to do it in the evening. I presume the baby will be tired by then so sleep longer!!
I just think it's less rigid than Gina Ford and easy to explain to other people who may end up looking after baby (such as DH or grandparents)

It just seem to make sense. (famous last words)

shazaboogle · 13/05/2008 11:30
