I thought I'd better start another thread as the other one was full to bursting!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mibbes · 15/05/2008 22:14

Verso all the best for tomorrow and surely you must get a C-section after all that - am really at what you went through.

katie3677 · 15/05/2008 22:30

Hi all. Got my dating scan tomorrow and I'm very nervous due to recent history of miscarriages. Fingers crossed that there is a strong heartbeat tomorrow. I reckon I'm about 10 weeks, so that means I'll have another scan in a couple of weeks, so that will be good.
Verso like you I had a terrible time with DS, now 3. He was 11lb 4oz and ended up being ventouse with epesiotomy and 3/4th degree tear, then severe problems as a result for a year. The midwife has put me as a High Risk case this time around so I will be under consultant care, so hopefully they will give me some good advice on what to do this time. Although I hate the idea of a C-section, purely because of the disability afterwards, I think it would actually be the best plan this time around, especially if I have another monster baby! Good luck for tomorrow.

mibbes · 15/05/2008 22:38

OOh there are a few of us having scans tomorrow - good luck Katie, hope all goes well.

chutneymary · 16/05/2008 01:22

JUst a quick one - have been asleep since I put the girls to bed at 8. Now have sorted out my stuff for work tom and thought I'd check in.

Good luck to all having scans tomorrow. Verso my love, you WILL get an elective after that. With DD1, I had a 36 hour labour with induction, synto, failed forceps and em CS. No internal damage though, very thankfully. However, I requested an elective at booking much to the chagrin of the MW, who said that one saw the consultant at 36w who would decide. That was too late for me, so I got a different MW to refer me at about 24 weeks so it was sorted. The consultant talked about the risk of rupture for VBAC and the risks of surgery, but I said my mind was made up. He said he couldn't force me to have a VBAC and booked the date on the spot. In your shoes, I am sure s/he will agree. If miraculously they don't, ask for a second opinion. You will not be made to have a VBAC, I promise.

HTH. I'll do a proper post tomorrow, but wanted to pop that up just in case you check in before you go tomorrow.

Verso · 16/05/2008 06:02

Thanks, everyone, for being so sweet. I was a bit scared this morning to look at the thread as I realise I rather over-shared ! Had a wee cry about it all last night and now feel much better.

chutneymary - my MW also said my consultant would decide at 36weeks, which is too late for me too - but as my story wore on she said she really thought it would be a good idea, which I was pleased about. She has requested my birth notes from the hospital where I had DD. I'm seeing the consultant next week so I hope he gives me the option!

katie3677 I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad time too . I'm classified High Risk as well. 11lb4oz is impressive! DD (also 3, btw) was 9lb 6oz and the MW this time kept going on about how I 'must' have had gestational diabetes last time - which I didn't. Grrrr! I have to have lots of extra glucose tolerance tests this time because she's convinced I had it. Did you have it?

FWIW, friends of mine who had either ECs or planned c-sections had smoother recoveries than I did. I know it's not a walk in the park, but nothing could be as scary as what happened last time. I will be thinking of you with your scan today too - I've also had miscarriages so am nervous about mine as well. {{hugs}}

kayzisexpecting · 16/05/2008 06:12

Morning,

I hope everyones scans go well today, I can't believe some of us are at 12 weeks already. Its going do quickly(so I think anyway, DH disagrees)

Verso I agree with msdynamo you deserve a medal!!! I think you deserve a CS after that. Also if you know you have a CS booked then you won't have to worry during your pregnancy about the looming birth.

I hope everyone is ok!

I'm still waking up too early for my liking and I have SPOTS!!!!!!!! Its horrible. I haven't had spots for about 3 years really. Just the odd one now and then. I feel like a teenager again.

southernbelle77 · 16/05/2008 06:13

Good luck Verso, Katie, mibbles and anyone else having scans tomorrow. Hope they all go well.

I have worken up this morning which really bad back ache and an aching in the bottom of my stomach. I've had the aching in the bottom of my stomach for a few days but this morning it made me a bit concerned with the back pain too. I'm sure I'm just being paranoid but really hope everything is ok. It could just be the way I slept couldn't it?

southernbelle77 · 16/05/2008 06:14

I had dreadful spots at the beginning Kay! I looked like a teenager too! They have started to settle now thank god! Hope yours clear up soon for you.

kayzisexpecting · 16/05/2008 06:23

Thanks southernbelle they are quite annoying. I hope they do clear soon.

I'm sure your back ache could be from the way you slept. I get it too sometimes.

katie3677 · 16/05/2008 07:04

Up early as couldn't sleep for worrying about my scan, stupid I know as what will be will be, but doesn't stop me worrying.
Verso I was checked for diabetes three times in my last pregnancy because I kept showing high blood sugar (probably to do with all the Haribo I was eating) but always came back negative. The mw and consultant had no idea how big DS was until I actually went into labour, despite me telling them for weeks beforehand that he was big and I needed to be induced, maybe this time they will listen! I have been told that I will have to go through glucose tests again this time 'just in case' which is pretty grim. On the last one I had I fainted, 32 weeks pregnant with no food for 24 hours, not great!
Southernbelle I am also having achey pains in my lower tummy in the mornings which has been worrying me, but I think I have worked out that it is because I need to pee. Usually goes away if I go to the loo. Backache is normal too, probably just to do with all the stretching going on in there.
Can't wait until 12 weeks is up and I can finally relax and begin to believe that I am properly pregnant and WILL be having this baby.
Good luck to everyone else having scans today and the rest of you have a good Friday.

EffiePerine · 16/05/2008 08:27

Have also been having tummy and back pains, remember them from last time round as well

GOOD LUCK to Mibbes, Verso and Katie for your scans . Katie: when were you offered a dating scan? I have no real idea about my dates, but kind of assumed I'd just get the standard 12 week scan anyway. Am planning to call the mw next week to check about booking in appointments and scan dates etc (will be approx 8 weeks).

Now feeling sick all the time (grr) not helped by cough which makes me gag . Roll on 12 weeks...

BeckyBendyLegs · 16/05/2008 08:29

Verso and Katie you both deserve medals for your birth experiences / huge babies. I hope you both get the appropriate treatment this time around I feel quite humbled by the experiences of other people.

I'm spotty as well and I am 36! I have grey hairs and spots at the same time, a most unusual look.

It will be so good when we've all had our first scans and when we've all passed the 12 week mark. There is so much worry going around at the moment. I've started to feel a bit better lately and I can't help having the 'oooh why do I feel better' worry even though I know it doesn't necessarily mean anything at all. I think in my case I just can't believe how easy it has been going so far and I keep thinking something must go wrong. Perhaps we are all natural doom mongers!

EffiePerine · 16/05/2008 08:41
katie3677 · 16/05/2008 08:56

Effie I made a big fuss about having an early viability scan to my doctor because of past mc history, so had my first scan a couple of weeks ago to check that everything was ok. The sonographer said it was too early to do dates so booked me in for another appointment two weeks on. I also made a point of telling them that my cycles had changed so much recently that there could have been a two week discrepancy. I am relieved to be having scans every two weeks at the moment as just means that I can keep an eye on things rather than getting to 12 weeks and finding that I'd had a MMC at 5 weeks like last time.

hotmama · 16/05/2008 09:05

Hello ladies,

Hopefully you can give me some advice - I have started a thread in the pregnancy threads.

Basically, had a dating scan on Tuesday and had a healthy heartbeat which put my mind at rest as I have had a reduction in pregnancy symptoms.

Yesterday started bleeding but had not bits IYKWIM. Got an appointment at the EPU next Tuesday.

I have never led before in this or either of my 2 previous pregnancies.

I'm 41 and have a bad feeling - any words of wisdom!

artichokes · 16/05/2008 09:25

Morning all

GOOD LUCK to Mibbes, Verso and Katie for your scans .

Hotmama - I have replied on your thread. I hope all proves OK.

Verso - your birth story sounds terrible. You totally deserve a CS if that is what you want. People get them for a lot less.

Kayz - I have spots too. Really nasty ones and they are on my back . I didn't have that with DD and am wondering if it is a sign of testosterone in my system and therefore a boy (testosterone may also account for my VERY bad temper at the mo).

Well after my good night's sleep on Wednesday night (thaks to Mediseding DD) she ran a temp of 40 degrees last night so was back in my bed. I sleep so badly with her next to me. She fiddles and snores and insists on holding my hand and sleeping on top of me despite it being a king size bed... so I am tired again. But respite is in sight because DH is back in 22 hours (then off again for another 10 days on Tuesday ).

My scan is in 10 days. I really hope it is OK as I seem to have told EVERYONE about this pregnancy (oops).

BeckyBendyLegs · 16/05/2008 09:40

Artichokes poor you and poor your DD. Glad your DH is due back soon but shame he's off again soon after! He must have an exciting job. I hope he brings you both back nice presents when he goes away

My scan is 8 days, 2 hours, 20 minutes from now. I have told everyone about me as well. I'm rubbish at keeping secrets.

Is there anyone out there who has managed to keep in secret up until now and are you waiting for the magical 12 week mark? I did with the first one but then I didn't have any morning sickness at all with DS1 and told everyone I'd given up alcohol for lent (I timed it well!). They believed me as well.

Hi all, hope things are well. Haven't checked in for a while been jumping between here and Jan 09 thread (think due in first few days jan but will prob be el-sec). Only really glanced down the thread, have struggled to keep up with you chatty lot even as a lurker, but will try and get time to read down a bit later.

All the best for those having scans today.

I'm heading up to the EPU for 3.20pm as have had some light spotting, trying not to freak out too much and hoping the scan will reassure rather than confirm my worries. Will post in once I'm back.

EffiePerine · 16/05/2008 10:40

Hotmama: no experience of early bleeding, but couod you ring the EPU if it gets worse? Must be v worrying

Verso · 16/05/2008 11:13

hotmama can you get in to see the EPU earlier than Tuesday. It must be really worrying.

Scan went really well! The baby was wiggling around and waving its arms and legs . I've been so worried this time round because like katie3677 I've had missed miscarriages before (first one found out at nuchal fold scan, second one found out at 9w6d). So this time round I've been scanned every two weeks.

I. Am. Having. A. Baby! It might actually be true this time!

Nuchal scan is week after next - I'll be 13 weeks or thereabouts. Am SOOOOOOO relieved.

Fingers crossed that everyone else with scans today or in the near future has a similar experience!

BeckyBendyLegs · 16/05/2008 11:31

Verso that is wonderful! I've had one missed MC as well discovered at 12-week scan so I also have that niggling anxiety about my scan coming up. It's so scary! But isn't it great when the news is good!

I'm hungry...what can I eat that isn't the tub of biscuits grinning at me as I type?

EffiePerine · 16/05/2008 11:34

Fruit? I have been scoffing mangos and passion fruit (I love summer fruit).

Verso, that's brilliant news . So glad things are going well - agreement to CS, regular scans and an active baby

mibbes · 16/05/2008 12:50

OMG There is a real baby in there ! I was so relieved and quite surprised really ! How on earth can that wee bean be in there when I feel complete non-PG !
I am only 10+6 - I knew I was less that 12 weeks due to my longer than average cycles. Having said that I know I ov'd on the Tuesday so surely I'd have been 11 weeks Tuesday past ?... I reckon I am a few days further on than they suggest but TBH don't really care - ickle beany is in there and safe and that is all that matters - hurray !
I'll post scan pic on my profile over the weekend - am at work now (as if I'm going to do any !!) so can't scan the pic. DP thinks it looks like a wee hippo ! There were much better angles during the scan but hey ho you can see the shape and the wee stumpy arms and legs !
Oh and I'd better update my date as accoring to the lady EDD is now 6th Dec, it should still be here in time for santa
Verso so glad your scan was successful too

BeckyBendyLegs · 16/05/2008 12:51

Sounds lovely. But we have a distinct dearth of fresh food in the house at the moment as Friday is our big shop day. I might have a look at the summer fruits in Sainsbury's later.

My laptop is poorly. It is my lifeline as I work from home. It has crashed seven times since 12 o'clock.
