I thought I'd better start another thread as the other one was full to bursting!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
rosmerta · 13/05/2008 13:40

hi all, have been busy trying to keep on top of the washing & housework as its been slipping lately. All I want to do is sleep though!

nandos & mummy2olivia I'm so sorry for you both, I hope you have some great support at home [hugs]

My scan is next week & I'm now starting to get nervous! I know its a bit stupid to be worrying now but if I remember rightly I worried like this when ds's first scan was due.

Anyway, I've been trying not to think about it too much, ds has been loving playing in the garden which means I can sit & relax with a book. I keep having to shift my chair & table around though to stay in the shade!

majormoo · 13/05/2008 14:04

nandos and mummy2olivia -very sorry to hear your news.

gordon I hope all is Ok for you.

artichokes-getting Gordon Brown pregnant-some dream! Re going to Turkey, I wouldn't fly when 6 months pregnant personally, but I know plenty of people do.

Thanks everyone who gave info on the bedtime clocks

mibbes/rosmerts -I have a scan on Monday and am also nervous about it too. I feel better the last week or so which of course makes me think it could be a bad sign

rosmerta · 13/05/2008 14:31

majormoo, its why I'm glad I've got this thread as I try & tell dh how I feel & all he can say is 'it will all be ok'. Very nice but for some reason when he says it it really irritates me!

Guess I'm just irrational & hormonal

Bisou · 13/05/2008 16:28

Thanks for the well wishes Becky. I'm currently in Hong Kong waiting for my connecting flight. Good news is that when you tell them you are pregnant they give you a nice seat - I got an isle seat in an exit row, heaps of leg room! There was another lady on the flight who looked like she was about 5-6 months pregnant so I felt a bit of a fraud after seeing her massive bump. I also asked about whether one should go through the metal detectors when pregnant, so they just frisked me instead.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having crazy dreams... I managed to deliberately kick DH in my sleep a couple of nights ago and can't remember for the life of me now why, I just remember being really cross about something. Poor bugger! I'm definitely a grump these days, no tears for me. Wonder if that means I'm having a boy??

snowwombat I'm probably not the best person to ask about how the system works in Oz as it's my first and I'll be in 3 different states during the course of the pregnancy. I think there are several options though, including shared care with a GP or you can opt for just midwife led care. If you have a look on the website for the Randwick Hospital for Women in Sydney, they have quite a bit of info there. If you want to give birth in a midwife led birthing centre though, I'd get on to it and book yourself in asap.

Is anyone having one of those fancy 12 week scans where they can tell you the sex of the baby? I'd love to find that out but I don't think I can get one where I'm going to be.

Must get ready for the next leg of the trip... take care y'all

mibbes · 13/05/2008 16:57

pixsix how sweet that you are excited about my scan - I wish I was ! It will be your turn before you know it !
artichokes PMSL at your dream !
rosmerta & majormoo good to hear that you are in the same boat - scan looming and very nervous. Could I ask a question to those with Lo's - when they do the scan and put on the jelly and then move the device-thingy around - how long does it take to see a baby/heartbeat ? I am terrified that those moments will feel like an eternity as I wait with baited breath to see if all ok... God I'm so scared !
Bisou have a good trip !

rosmerta · 13/05/2008 17:18

mibbes, iirc it doesn't take very long at all to find the heartbeat. I definitely remember the sonographer pointing out ds on the screen & me & dh just looking at each other and saying 'can you see anything?', 'nope', 'me either'!

kayzisexpecting · 13/05/2008 18:15

Mibbes it really doesn't take very long at all. Its really very quick.

I've been at work all day and my feet are killing me. I work on a Deli and I was wrappin up Brie earlier and I just wanted to shove it all in my mouth and eat it. Its so unfair.

I hope everyone is ok.

BeckyBendyLegs · 13/05/2008 18:46

That made me laugh Kayz you wanting to eat all the brie!

We've had a good day complete with yet another trip to the local swings. Our boiler is still broken but the gas man is returning tomorrow with the parts which are apparently coming all the way from Hull.

I've been craving melon like mad and apples today. I've gone off grapes, I think I overdosed (I was getting through three packets a week). Cheese is still a real biggie for me - ooooh crumbly mature cheddar, great big huge chunks of the stuff. Yum!

I've still got two weeks to wait until my 12-week scan. I passed our local midwife today and I was dying to tell her but she was gone before I had the chance to say 'guess what!' If she looks in her appointment books she'll have seen my name as my booking-in appointment is two weeks today. It just feels like ages and ages.

kayzisexpecting · 13/05/2008 18:51

I'm not normally that keen on Brie either but it looked so good.

I am still craving pickled onions! I can't get enough at the minute. I reckon my breath must stink though, I have to brush my teeth when I have finished them so DH will kiss me.

About 3 weeks until my scan, I can't wait!!

southernbelle77 · 13/05/2008 18:54

I'm obsessed with cheese!! Yummy yummy crumbly chedder! I've had a cheese sandwich, cheese quiche, the left over cheese from making the quiche and I think I'll have more cheese later!!

I'll be the size of a mansion (i'm already the size of a house ) before 12 weeks at this rate!

pixsix · 13/05/2008 18:58

Becky my scan is 2 weeks today too, I'll be 12+2. I agree it seems ages away, I've literally been counting down the days since they gave me the appointment. 14 days to go.....

majormoo · 13/05/2008 20:02

Kayz-I would have a nightmare doing your job-I love Brie and really miss it. Runny eggs, mussels, prawns, smoked salmon-all my favourites are off the menu.

All this talk of dreams-I had a horrible dream the other night. We were on a ferry and it was sinking, so we had to get into lifeboats and we could not find DD anywhere. It was horrible-the only time I have been relieved when DS wakes me at 5am.

majormoo · 13/05/2008 20:06

by the way Bisou not sure where you will be, but if you pay privately for a nuchal they can usually tell the sex as part of that scan. Assume scans would be pretty similar in Australia to here, but no clue really.

A friend of mine who lives in Sydney had two great births there. When she had her DS (he is now about 7 though) the midwives kept her DS in the nursery, so her and her DH could go out to dinner! (well, that is what she told me, although I am still a bit dubious that even Australian medical care can be THAT good!!!)

kayzisexpecting · 13/05/2008 20:14

Its pretty bad majormoo we cook chickens and stuff too so I am constantly hungry at work.

BeckyBendyLegs · 13/05/2008 21:39

Every night before bed DH makes me a cup of tea and gives me a big hunk of cheddar. He thinks this is really weird.

Perhaps....now here's a theory...the late night cheese eating explains the erotic dreams about TV chefs.

kayzisexpecting · 14/05/2008 08:45

Morning!!

I just went to get dressed and my trousers won't do up. I've had to put some maternity trousers on which are falling down. Its so unfair.

How is everyone today?

Is the morning sickness calming down yet?

kayzisexpecting · 14/05/2008 10:40

I'VE GOT MY SCAN DATE!!!!

30th May!!!

I can't wait!!!

feb · 14/05/2008 10:48

Ooooh it's exciting isn't it? Some of us are nearly there with the magic 12 weeks.

This morning we are waiting in for the gas man / men again so we're watching In The Night Garden at the moment. Somebody's not in bed. Who's not in bed? Iggle Piggle's not in bed. Don't worry Iggle Piggle. It's time to go!

It looks lovely outside but we've got to stay in. Baaaa.

hattyyellow · 14/05/2008 11:27

Is anyone else massively hormonal? I started off tetchy but feeling fairly normal and am now emotionally all over the place in the last day or so. I am crying at the drop of a hat (my DH randomly made me tea this morning in a cup my late beloved gran gave me and I sobbed for ages!).

I feel really unsettled by everything - can't concentrate on work and just want to curl up and nest somewhere.

Please tell me it's not just me and I'm not just going mad!

Had some cramps last night which seemed to have gone thank god, and no bleeding. Doctor suggested it might be because my period would have been due around now at 8 and a bit weeks and I'm wondering if that's causing the PMT type feelings too..

Kay I'm so jealous of your scan date! You lucky thing!

Have also got increased discharge, still white but thicker (sorry tmi) is this normal?

Am a nervous wreck today - why does 12 weeks go so slowly? It's like a torture by the NHS to drive pregnant women mad!

Flumpybumpy · 14/05/2008 11:28

Hi ladies, sorry for this but I really need to vent about something that happened at work yesterday.

When I first found out I was PG DH and I decided on a termination, I was a bit of a state at work because of thsi and ended up crying. A girl at work asked me what was wrong and I ended up spilling out everything. I was a bit of a state and everything I was feeling just came flooding out. She was nice and comforted me until I calmed down and promised to say anything to anyone. I apologised the next day and bought her a bottle of wine by way of a thank you/apology. Anyway, we decided to go ahead with the pregnancy and becasue of what my job involves I needed to tell my boss, so i did and she was cool. My boss then, very indiscreetly, made a comment now everyone knows.

The girl I told about the the termination came in last night and told everyone she was 5 mths preg. I knew she had been trying and offered my congratulations. I asked how she was feeling, morning sickness etc and she said 'well I was okay until your little episode, that was the last thing I needed to hear I can't beleive you said it to me, how selfish!' I pointed out that I didn't want to tell her but she pushed me into it by saying 'you feel much better if you talk about it, I am a good listener'. Now I feel really bad, she has also told some of the other women that i was thinking about a termination and not all of them have been very friendly since.

Disenchanted · 14/05/2008 11:29

Hiya everyone,

I am at the midwives tomorrow! My first appointment!

Ive forgotten what happens though!

EmmaPP · 14/05/2008 11:36

snowwombat and bisou, ive just skim read some of this thread, am i right in thinking you'll be giving birth in Oz? if so, i'll be just a short hop across the ocean in New Plymouth, New Zealand!! My mum lives there, hence our desire to spend my one year maternity leave there. I've already booked a midwife. I just contacted the local hospital via the web and they gave me a list of midwife email addresses. So i was able to book them. They told me woman in Taranaki book midwives at 5 weeks pregnant! perhaps because it's a remote place, i dont know. The hospital thought i'd have to pay 400$ for the birth, but the midwives emailed me a section of the "reciprocal agreement" between England and NZ, and it shows that actually it's free! So worth double checking that. The hospital im going to lets you bring your own water birth bath!!! only 180$! good luck xx

kayzisexpecting · 14/05/2008 11:37

Thats horrible Flumbybumby. You were pushed into telling her. You didn't know she was pregnant so how could you have intentionally(sp) offened her.

It should be your choice to who knows about you thinking about a termination.

I hope you are ok.

Flumpybumpy · 14/05/2008 11:45

I did say I didn't know she was PG and she said 'well you knew we were trying!!' Even so, I was all over the place I probably would have told the cleaner if she had been sympathetic!
