moomins - im rite there with you!

fed up, pi**ed off, feel fat, and bored!

but like peachy said, might as well make the most of now, instead of wishing time would go faster, its one of very few things that you never get back, and only appreciate when its gone ;)

ive got a sweep on thursday, yey! means that I only have 2 full days, or 3 nights sleep and then at least i can have a midwife tell me if things are looking good or not

im actually quite excited about it!

VictorianSqualor · 28/04/2008 16:31

ds1&2 AND DD on the way home.
No, i only just got my provisional

Carey87 · 28/04/2008 16:32

i passed my test about 6 weeks ago, and the git made me do an emergency stop!

Denny185 · 28/04/2008 16:36

Ahh I knew someone had recently but the brain cells couldnt retrieve. So the bus journeys are going to continue for the forseeable future then, hard work I bet.

goodcatholicgirl · 28/04/2008 16:40

denny no it was 2 weeks ago for Em!!!!!!!!
Thanks for advice re show and sex (sounds like 'show and tell' ). Got email from USA pal saying maybe DH was 'pushing baby back up there' with all the sex . Think she is just jealous cos I've had more sex in the last 4 days than she normally has in 4 years (meeooooow!!!!!)

ToastAddict · 28/04/2008 16:41

VS - yes, she does root and put hands in mouth. Unfortunatley, she continues to put hand in mouth despite nipple being available!! She has a go at the nipple, pulls head back, shakes it around and stuffs hand in! Not every time, sometimes she gets it right straight away. I think I'll see how her weight's doing tomorrow, and maybe call one of the helplines if she's still not doing so well - thanks for the numbers

Elfsmummy - the private counsellor, is it Diane Pemberton, or a name like that? She's the one I've heard of.....

I know that the answer is going to be "there is no such thing as normal" but ..... what is a "normal" length of a bf?? DD will gulp enthusiastically for a few minutes, then really slow down i.e. a few sucks and then a loooong pause (20-30 secs) and then repeat. Sometimes she'll feed for 20 minutes, but it's usually 10-15. Is this enough? I think she gulps down a lot of air, so I try to wind her when she's decided she's had enough and put her back on, but often she's too sleepy to try again.... She tends to want a feed every 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

goodcatholicgirl · 28/04/2008 16:41

Oh, and I had heard of the evening primrose oil thing, think you told me actually. Someone on our thread thought you meant shoving 7 pineapples up my fanjo....... .

Carey87 · 28/04/2008 16:42

LOL!!! Goodcatholicgirl!!!

Denny185 · 28/04/2008 16:43

Believe me ladies shes not so 'good'

VictorianSqualor · 28/04/2008 16:46

TA, To me that sounds like a perfect feeding routine, every two-three hours for 15-20 minutes is great.
Alex does the hands thing too sometimes and I have to move them out the way, then he gets hismelf agitated because no milk is coming out of his fingers duh!

Denny185 · 28/04/2008 16:48

TA - DS used to be a real windmill arms feeder, I had to swaddle him for a couple of weeks whilst feeding to calm it down. I think the length of time feeding can vary according to lots of things - speed of let down/babies sucking ability/sleepiness etc - is she putting on weight and satified after a feed?

VictorianSqualor · 28/04/2008 16:50

Also the long pause is normal, both DS's have gulped at the beginning, then slowed, then gulped, then slowed, it's the way they do it.
Maybe have a read of some of the stuff on www.kellymom.com for more info but it sounds pretty good to me, she may still be sleepy and will feed more eventually (well, I say feed more, they just get better at taking it at each feed).
As long as she is having plenty of wet and pooy nappies and is keeping that feeding routine, as long as she doesnt lose weight, but just gain it slowly I wouldnt be at all worried.

Denny185 · 28/04/2008 16:51

VS is the change in sucking something to do with moving from fore milk to hind milk

EllieG · 28/04/2008 17:02

Hello everyone!

Sorry have been absent for a while, it's a bit of a shock to the system having Molly here now! No time for anything much anymore. Am stealing a moment while she's asleep on her Dad to MN though!

Have no time to catch up now - can I be lazy and ask someone to update me on who has had babies this week?

Molly's full name is Molly Eloise and she is a little stunner. Birth was OK - have discovered I am a complete wuss, have no tolerance for pain and was begging for epidural by time was 4cm. After had that all fine, labour was 12 hours, but actual delivery in 40ish mins, and was quite rested for it. Plus lovely epidural meant I felt no pain.....ahh. Am bit torn and battered and bruised, but no major probs.

Molly is great, generally chilled. Not sleeping much at night unfortunately, and BF is really hard, but am persevering. Get times when I am a bit teary and feel rather overwhelmed, but she is so smashing and I love her heaps. DP is feeling a bit overwhelmed too, but getting his head round it. BF is my biggest thing - my nipples are really flat and the first night had bad latch and they got a bit hurty, and this has got worse, they are a bit of a mess, but the midwife has helped me with the latch and should improve. I have to use nipple shields, which makes it easier, but not sure whether I will ever be able to get her off them. I am not trying at moment though, as they are all cracked and bleeding and I really can't face it getting any worse.

Hope all of you are well. Sorry for the mememe post - I will put some pics of my girl on now so you can check 'em out if you want. They might take a while though as my 'puter is a bit slow to downloads.

Any other big news?

VictorianSqualor · 28/04/2008 17:02

I don't think so cos the milk doesn't actually change from foremilk to hindmilk, hindmilk is just the fattier stuff that's kind of stuck round the edges, hard to explain but imagine cream and milk, if you were to pour a jug with milk in, that had cream on top the milk would come out first, the cream would come out last (even if the cream floated) that's how hind/foremilk works, except mroe gradual, it slowly gets thicker, and fattier, so when a baby first sucks it quenches thirst and comes out quicker, which makes sense with the quick suck at the beginning, and harder sucks towards the end(imagine sucking a mcd's milkshake through a straw, it's a lot harder, so takes long hard sucks) but DS1&2 always kind of swapped and changed throughout the feed.

I think though cannot be sure,(could check it out I suppose) that the quick suction at the beginning gets the milk flowing and the slower longer sucks are because it is already flowing, then they stop and have to get it going again, with the quick, short sucks, the can have slower ones again. IIRC that's how one breast pump works so it can replicate the sucks better and make the expressing easier as it's more like babies suction.

Denny185 · 28/04/2008 18:06

Welcome back Ellie, glad your doing ok nad she is gorgeous. Well done you for BF and showing that MW who said yoy wouldnt do it. Re the flat nipples, Ive only just got to the point where ive been able to stop using the shields (nearly 4 weeks), whilst cracked/bleeding i used for the whole feed. Once healed started to do start of the feed with shield and end without gradually increasing non shield time IYSWIM, just takes a while. Also I use lansinoh during the feed which seems to make the feeding much more comfortable.
