sheds- try increasing the feeds by an ounce, it may be he is ready to go up a measure or is on a growth spurt in which casde it'll pass, but give it a go. we always ff by monitoring what they took and then increeasing / decreasing from there

Denny185 · 28/04/2008 13:04

Sheds is Henry coming up to 3 weeks? They tend to hit a bit of a growth spurt somewhere round there, is so this could just be a glitch that will calm down again. Second Peachy though if hes polishing off the bottle then i would increase by an ounce and see if he goes longer. Aeryn has a bottle at 10pm feed and takes 6ozs (the packet says 4) and has been known to look for even more, 8oz of Fri night . the other thing is some babies are just a bit 'sucky' how do you feel about offering a dummy to see if that settles him?

VictorianSqualor · 28/04/2008 13:07

LOL, This really is going to be the dummy group isnt it

KnitterInTheNW · 28/04/2008 13:27

Oh yes VS, we went out and bought more dummies yesterday! And got a pretty good night's sleep too. He woke about every 3 hours but had a 15 min feed each time and straight back to sleep with the fab bit of plastic in his mouth. Hooray!

Denny185 · 28/04/2008 13:36

Just caught up with the rest of the news - PFJ what a terrible few days youve had, hope Jack is picking up and you get him home again v soon.

Someone else had a baby - forgotten who from there to here congratulations.

No dummies here, but only because we a had a nightmare with DD1, we let her fall asleep on them and she then wouldnt go to sleep without one and used to wake reg during the night coz she's lost it - that went on for 2 and a half years until we finally bined them and went cold turkey. Consequently I have avoided them since.

Carey87 · 28/04/2008 13:37

hi guys,

PFJ - so glad to hear that your all doing ok and that your lo is getting the treatment he needs (((((((big gigantic hugs!!!!))))))

did anyone try clary sage?

Cx

Sheds75 · 28/04/2008 13:44

denny, yep he turned 3 weeks yesterday! (where does the time go?) we have already got a dummy will give the extra oz a try. Thanks guys

VictorianSqualor · 28/04/2008 13:45

I did, but as you know nothing worked for me, Peachy said once things had got going it helped her along though.
AS with all 'induction methods' if you aint ready it wont help.

Pic of kitty on profile btw.

Carey87 · 28/04/2008 13:47

cute kitty!!!

i want one

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 28/04/2008 13:54

Clary Sage is fine once you've started.... Doula told me she knew someone who sued it before she ahd, triggered very painful ctx with no progression and ended up in hospital though, so beware until then!

I saw something on here about sage tea somewhere and Neals yard do it, but I couldn't find any direct info on it when I google'd it so I decided to skip it.

I really do think yur body ahs to be ready- i think EPO helped me a lot but I was 8 days overdue! I suspect had I tried it a week before I'd have had no results.

One thing though: its horrid waitng- I was the Queen of the whingers- but once they're here you'll feel quite nostalgic for when you were PG i expect, and the days with a newbie will fly so fast until you've got a stressy 8 year old throwing strops and bossing you about.... the best thing to do (couldn;t have followed my owna dvice though) is to spend the last few days taking bump pics, folding baby clothes, and

writing in diaries- generally being nostalgic. It'll all be over so quickly now.

eva07 · 28/04/2008 14:00

oh, I envy you lot. I'd love to discuss dummies! I was due on saturday but nothing so far, not even after a 3-hours walk yesterday.
and cary and sagitta haven't been here today, so I guess they will soon join you in discussing dummies too.
hope everyone is doing fine though with their babies, keep thinking of you, pfj!

eva07 · 28/04/2008 14:01

x-post carey. I missed you!

Sheds75 · 28/04/2008 14:34

if I didn't already have 2 cats already I'd be wanting that little kitty...... sooooo cute.

on the subject of dummies anyone got suggestions on best type? I have a couple of Avant ones at the moment, but they were only bought as a precaution

Just updating the list to include my DD's name I've put a couple of pics on my profile, hope it works.

Things going OK here, I put Zoe in her sling for the first time this morning - it's just a piece of fabric, nothing pre-made, so all depends on the tying - didn't get it quite right as her head wasn't really supported, so I wasn't really hands-free, but she loved it - slept solidly for 2 hours Gave me a chance to read through the posts - well, this thread anyway.

Hi to everyone, hugs especially to PFJ.

The problem I am having is not recognising Zoe's cues - I never know if she's hungry or tired or needs a nappy change etc. And she's still quite fussy about feeding - will take 5 minutes or so to latch on and then give up after 10 minutes. She's only feeding every 2-3 hours. She lost 10oz of her 6lb 10oz in the first week, did put on 2 oz in the next few days, so I'm hoping she will have put more on when she's weighed tomorrow.
I'm sure I'll get the hang of it soon

moominsmummy · 28/04/2008 14:55

eva - don't worry - I am still here - was due last friday and not a twinge so far

thankfully the really bad coccyx pain yesterday has totally gone (thank you to everyone who listened to me moan about it)

can i just check tho - baby isn't doing kicking and gymnastics anymore - just lots of stretching (ouch) and squirming around. Baby is moving regularly but much more sort of sluggish than before - can't remember if this is normal and just because LO has run out of room??

PortAndLemon · 28/04/2008 14:56

Congratulations to all the new babies -- we were at MIL's for the weekend and seem to have missed a lot of birth announcements.

elfsmummy · 28/04/2008 15:08

Afternoon all.

We're day 12 here and all going fairly well.
Had loads of relatives here over the weekend so just having a quiet day today.

DD1 has settled down loads about DD2 and will even tolerate her being fed without trying to drag her off the boob! She has started playing up a little at bedtime and taking ages to settle but we're being loving but firm and consistant and she seems to be getting the message.

Toastaddict I think our girls were both born at the QMC on the same day? DD2 was born at 1941 then I spent the night on one of the postnatal wards (maybe C29???) but I was in a side room so I didn't meet anyone else. Was discharged at about 12 noon on the 17th. How was your experience. I was fairly impressed. They offered me help with feeding but she actually did really well and I didn't really seel I needed it after feeding DD1 for 11 months.

I cannot believe what The PFJ is going through. (or should I also say what poor Jack is going through!) Thinking of you all.

velbels · 28/04/2008 15:24

Sorry i've not been on. Congratulations to all those other new babies.

Samuel was finally born on 20th April weighing 8lb 15oz. 76 hours after my waters broke and after an emergency cs. Not quite the home birth i had hoped but we got there in the end!

ToastAddict · 28/04/2008 15:29

Hi Elfsmummy
I was in QMC from early hours Tues, on the consultant-led care bit (rather than m/w-led). Had Zoe at 3.55pm Weds, then onto C29 - no side room for me though
We stayed in til the Friday afternoon as she really didn't get the hang of feeding and the m/ws didn't want me going home til she had sussed it. I was so impressed with the care I got, they could easily have just said "oh, give up on bfing, give her a bottle" and sent me home. They were fab

I really hope she settles into it more though - there is no way I could contemplate feeding her in public atm (or in front of anyone other than DH, but then I'm not very confident about getting my boobs out in front of people) as she fusses so much, there is no way it could be done discreetly.

DonDons · 28/04/2008 15:46

Congratualtions to all the new babies - I have put my story on Scorpio's labour thread so won't post it again.

Picallili! So pleased for you! I wondered if you were still in Jessops - I ended up on Concord so we were not destined to bump into each other after all. Seems our Sheffield doctors are pretty handy with a scalpel though

moominsmummy · 28/04/2008 15:54

i am soooooooo bored

and grumpy

bored bored bored

I know once the baby is here I will long for some idle time but just now I am v fed up. Doesn't help that my friend who wasn't due for another 3 weeks has gone in to be induced today so will have her baby before me.

elfsmummy · 28/04/2008 15:59

TA - we may have met over breakfast - what a co-incidence - I remeber us briefly 'discussing' it when we found out that we were both booked at Queens many many months ago. Glad you had a good experience too.

I had a really hard time feeding DD1 and it does get easier I promise. I got loads of help at the time but it was all based in Leicester where I got in touch with La Leche and a breast feeding support group - bit of a hike from Nottingham though! I do know of a breastfeeding consultant in Nottingham (who came over to me in Leicester last time) but she's private so you'd have to pay for her. Let me know if you want me to pass on any details. TBH for now I'd milk your midwives for any advise they can offer and source all the free help first. It will get better.

VictorianSqualor · 28/04/2008 16:26

TA, Look on my profile, if you need bfing help call one of the helplines and they can put you in touch witha volunteer who will help you.

As for feeding in public, well, i'm nearly two weeks in with my 2nd bf baby, I used to feed anywhere and everywhere with DS1 but am still a bit about it with Alex, I've fed in the carpark but i had a vneck jumper with a vest under so jumper came down and vest came up, also fed in the registry office but i put my coat over my shoulder so even I'm not going round flashing me knockers just yet

Just did first school run on my own, my wonderful 4 bus journey and coped pretty darn well|! Everyone was saying i looked really well and i actually still feel really positive, remind me of this in a few weeks time when interupted sleep actually kicks in and i crash and burn

VictorianSqualor · 28/04/2008 16:29

TA!She's a cutie, reminds me of tom cruise and katie holmes' little girl.
Also meant to say, wrt her cues, does she root? crying is the last cue a baby gives for hunger, first they root and put hands in mouth so if she does those you can learn to feed before tears, might help you decide why she is crying a bit easier

Denny185 · 28/04/2008 16:30

4 buses with DS1 and 2? Well done you, was it you who passed your driving test recently?
