I ahd almost constant pain at the top of my bump for the last few weeks, still have it now, goodness knows what it was but it wasnt ctx

Scorpio, I looked it up about the ovulation thingy, in the BMJ(so reliable source) it says the earliest known period ovulation was 27 days post partum so docs should advise their patients not to have unprotected sex after 21 days.
We do have condoms but I forgot just how much we hate them! I'm seeing the mw tomorrow anyway so will ask her.
I know breastfeeding if done exclusively is 98% effective for the first 6months but we've worked out when we want our next one and it's just my luck I'd fall pg now when I don't want to!

VictorianSqualor · 27/04/2008 18:58

Oh I meant to say Moominsmummy, I have had an incredible surge of horny hormones I'm sure, never had it with the other two but this time I'm rather desperate for it, it must be something hormonal surely?

VictorianSqualor · 27/04/2008 19:44

Congrats to all the new babies born!
Seems we are finally getting a run of girls.
Love the names as well, we have a very wonderful selection of names and not one I don't like yet!

chipmonkey · 27/04/2008 19:54

VS, btw, I wouldn't bet on that can't-get-pg-within-3-weeks thing! Sounds suspiciously like can't-get-pg-while-bfing!
We really don't need you starting a Jan/Feb 09 antenatal thread now, do we!

VictorianSqualor · 27/04/2008 19:55

It's in the british medical journal!
Look here

KnitterInTheNW · 27/04/2008 20:02

The mum at one of my nanny job's parents went to the 6 week check after having her, to discover that the mum's mum was pg again. The mum's dad was an obstetrician! Were you able to follow that?!

scottishmummy · 27/04/2008 20:03

my friend has 2 babies under 1yo, she thought BF was contraception enough.oh crikey did she get a shock

Piccalilli2 · 27/04/2008 20:09

Hello all

Just a quick one to report Zoe Olivia born 22 April (42+1) eighing 7 lb 1 by emergency c-section - all very scary, she had the cord wrapped round her neck and I missed the whole thing as had to have general anaesthetic for the section as there was no time for anything else. She is gorgeous but we're struggling with the breastfeeding.

Dondons - we were in Jessops at the same time as they kept me in for ages but I was on Rivelin in the end. Congrats on the birth of Amelie, fab name.

VictorianSqualor · 27/04/2008 20:54

Congrats picallili, anothr gilr with a prety name

WRT breastfeeding, it has to be exclusive, no periods and only up to the first 6months, it's 98% effective, the first three weeks thing, I believe but only because no-one has ever been known to ovulate (or obviously get pg) before day 27 post partum so there has to be something in it.
I shall call my docs tomorrow though apparently I can get the mini-pill or the implant from three weeks. I posted a thread bout it and a GP answered me

PortAndLemon · 27/04/2008 22:06

BF only contraception if exclusive and every 2 hours and no changes in cervical fluid, I believe (per TCOYF) -- and very few people manage that.

ThePFJ · 27/04/2008 23:21

Hi everyone, am just taking a break from hospital. Jack is in there for a week or more. He has MRSA.

It's a really long story, but social services are no longer on our backs, and the marks on Jack (purple with very visible white borders) are characteristic of the skin breaking down (the thick white borders) which is something you can get with MRSA.

SO BE AWARE.

Jack's temperature climbed to the high 39's on Thursday and Friday/Sat, but is normal now.

Jack is responding really well to treatment.
I am scared that the HW and A&E didnt realise what the marks were.. and gods knows how many babies the HW visited after Jack last week.

Anyways I have been 'living' in the hospital for a week with Jack and we got moved to a separate area/room with two doors and extra precautions and the Nightingale childrens ward are excellent, and very very clean and re-assuring.

DP is now there overnight with Jack so I can get a break.

They thought Jack had Menigitus (he also tested positive for that but with no symptoms) before they told us it was MRSA a day later, so we have really been through it!

I am going to get some sleep, and then go back to the hospital tomorrow.
Missed you all,

Lara xxx

TLSM · 27/04/2008 23:25

Oh my god Lara I am so sorry you poor things! He is in the best place and thank goodness really that the HV made a fuss so it has been treated quickly.
I do hope all goes ok keep us posted when you can we are all here for you {hug} x

chipmonkey · 27/04/2008 23:32

Piccallilli, congratulations! Lovely name, btw.Sorry to hear about the traumatic birth, I had an emergency CS under GA on ds3 and it was a tough way to give birth! Are you getting any help with the bfing? Sometimes after a traumatic birth, it can take longer to be established, all you can do is try!

PortAndLemon · 27/04/2008 23:34

PFJ - you poor things, you have really been through the mill.

It's still horrendous that the HV assumed you had hurt Jack (with the added factor that she should really have noticed what the problem really was), but I guess it was a good thing in the long run that it at least brought you to medical attention.

And great to hear that he's responding so well to treatment.

ThePFJ · 27/04/2008 23:37

Sorry, I meant Meningitus.. or however you bloody spell it. You know.. the really bad one.

Thanks TLSM.

Everyone is telling me to complain about the HW and complain about the hospital.. as Jack must have got it from there etcetc.. but I havent got the strength anymore. Me and DP are just SO TIRED!

Need to smoke now, so I think I'll stay around on here a bit longer before I put my head down.

ThePFJ · 27/04/2008 23:39

Agreed PAL. At least while the hospital were xraying Jack/CT scanning him etc and checking we hadnt hurt him he was in the right place when his temp first shot from normal to almost 40.

I am so very very glad about that.

chipmonkey · 27/04/2008 23:41

OMG, thePFJ, you poor, poor things!! and at the HV and A+E doctors (a) clearly not knowing wtf they were looking at and (b) wrongly accusing you of hurting your baby! when the only likely place he picked up MRSA is the hospital, which I assume is also NHS! You deffo have grounds to request that that HV never darkens your door again!
Glad to hear he's doing better, though, poor little mite! Keep us posted on his progress!

ThePFJ · 27/04/2008 23:45

thanks chipmonkey.

-smokes-

ThePFJ · 28/04/2008 00:09

Right, I have emailed everyone I need to email and smoked a couple of rollups.
So, I am going to put a movie on and try to sleep.
I really miss Jack already though!

Please please try not to panic about MRSA everyone, but please please DO BE AWARE of it. People can carry it and not be in danger, but babies and old people can get ill, there is a program about it on panorama that was on tonight, bbc iplayer should have it if you are interested. I havent seen it yet, I have had a belly full, but my dad just rang me to tell me about it.

If your baby has a temp of 38 or more call the doctor.

Night all xxx

chipmonkey · 28/04/2008 00:13

Night-night, PFJ, try to get some sleep!

VictorianSqualor · 28/04/2008 07:47

Oh Goodness PFJ.
I hope Jack's ok, or at least getting there.
With the HV Thank Goodness for small mercies eh?

I've just got up to two dead kittens
My cat gave birth in the night and we always assumed she'd meow for us in labour but she didn't so I came down and she was sitting on two dead babies and a little wriggly ginger one, I tried to get the kittens hearts started but it was too late, they were cold so obviously long-born. Now she doesn't seem interested in the live one and I have to keep latching it on to get her to feed it, hopefully her maternal instinct will kick in soon.

ThePFJ · 28/04/2008 09:04

Oh VS... I am so sorry. I love kittens

Good luck with the live one.
