Here's our shiney, new and slightly ameneded thread to reflect our main topic of conversation recently! Really didn't want to mention the cheese and rice in the same sentence, but as it is a favourite with so many of you, I had to add it in, sorry to Hanaflower!

That was what I was going to mention to everyone. HAs anyone heard of Bum Genious? It is a website that sells washable nappies. Now initially i thought Mmmm thought the day of terry towling had gone but my stpe sister has a 14 week old little girl and she swears by them. No nappy rash or anything. Get different colours and they are lovely. A lot smaller that terries too! They grow with your baby. Intially out lay is around £200 BUT it works out a lot cheaper than dispoable ones. Apparently if you go ont he websit you can get a free sample. Just thought i would tell those with young children and all us prospective mums. x

Pinkali37 · 15/04/2008 13:08

Sorry make that Bum Genius...

mad4mybaby · 15/04/2008 13:50

is my skin bad do you mean? Yes very. No worse since being pg thou, just been to chemist and bought some benzoyl wash and she gave me some sort of cream that i havent used so will try these!
Not heard of bum genious (nice name!) felt guilty using disposables with ds but he was v ill for the first year and i had bad pnd i just never got round to sorting it out! Might look into it this time round esp if its cheaper!!

Pinkali - I think we are about the same stage give or take a day or two (I am 9 + 4 today). I lost my symptons a couple of weeks ago too and thought the worst (have had 4 mc, I had a scan, like you, and there was little tidgy. I feel really good at the moment, I do feel tired quite a bit but nothing like weeks ago when I could have fallen asleep at my desk. I go to bed usually anywhere between 9 and 10 at night and I certainly think that the sleep has helped. My boobs don't really hurt and havent really grown much and my tummy is just as flabby as ever!

I have been under the EPU and have already had a few scans and have another one next week - I know I am really lucky, I didn't want to book in with the MW at the local GP but the EPU said I needed to do it asap because of my age I need to have the NT scan. Work don't know about the pgy, but I have a scan next wednesday at the recurrent mc clinic - 4pm, then the next day I have to see my GP for booking in this is at 2.40, then on the 7th I have the NT scan at 10am. How the heck do I get round blagging time off??

I haven't had an alcoholic drink since I found i was pg, mainly because I don't fancy it but I would like to have one or two later on. We are off to france for our summer holiday at the beginning of June for 2 weeks and can't imagine not drinking like a fish!!
X

Haven't heard of bum genius either..i used tots bots and mother ease wraps with mine (whn i wasn't been lazy anyway....)

I like the idea of them growing with your baby...how does that work?
I found re-usables fine in the summer when i could get them dry but a nightmare in the winter....using the tumble dryer justs defeats the object doesnt it!

lackaDAISYcal · 15/04/2008 14:13

pinkali, I've got a couple of bumgenius nappies and I love them. They are quite expensive, but dry really quickly (on the clothes horse overnight) so you maybe don't need as many as you would with shaped terry nappies. I would suggest getting double the amount of inserts though as they take a bit longer to dry.

another good buy is happy heiney's onesize, which are also a birth to potty nappy with similar popper adjustment as the bumgenius.

I'm in the middle of trying to set up a nappy business so have been doing loads of research on different types and trying lots out.

Creena · 15/04/2008 14:28

Hi all - blimey, there's a lot to catch up on!

manyhatson - so sorry to hear your news. I'm sending you lots of love and hugs.

daisy - you've gone off Galaxy?! Oh no! I'm with you on Galaxy - it's my favourite chocolate ever (closely followed by Cherry Ripe bars, which I can only buy on the internet). I don't know what I'd do if I went off Galaxy (apart from switching to Dairy Milk, of course).

I had a mini maternity shop this weekend. I'm determined not to spend much this time around though. I've got some stuff left from last time (mainly work wear) and so I just wanted a few every day things. I ended up in New Look, which has a decent maternity range at super duper cheap prices. I bought a top (quite a nice top) for just £6! In the end, I spent exactly £40 but for that I got a pair of combat trousers, a long sleeve double layered top, a three quarter sleeve top and a sweater. Not bad for when I'm at home or knocking around at the weekend. To be honest, I think that just the larger branches stock the maternity range but it's definitely worth taking a look.

As for drinking, I think one or two units a week is fine. I haven't drunk alcohol since 2nd February (before I even ovulated) but that's because I'd been to a wedding, got absolutely sloshed and just couldn't face drinking again for a bit after that. Then I found out I was pregnant and went off wine altogether. The morning sickness has prevented me from having any alcohol. I'll wait until I'm in the second trimester and see how the MS is going - if it's gone, then I don't see any reason why I can't enjoy a nice glass of wine with my evening meal at the weekend.

pinkyminky · 15/04/2008 14:38

Hi All..Hana, yes the tuna ansd swordfish is about mercury, but it is a moderation question- I guess if you suddenly get a massive tuna craving and eat two tins a day you should hold back!

Onto nappies already! I use a variety of nappies but my favourites are totsbots that fasten with a nappy nippa, and motherease wraps. I have mainly size 2 but I did get some size 1 and some cheaper diddy diapers for dd as she was a lot smaller than ds, I also have some hemp nappies which are really thin compared to terry etc. Kittykins have a good 'what nappy' guide, and they have the bum genius ones, too. They look really nice. But I must resist I am not allowed to buy any more nappies I would suggest not buying loads of one type, give a few a try- see what you can borrow, and free samples are good, until you find your favourites.

lackaDAISYcal · 15/04/2008 14:56

lol pinky, I'm using pocket nappies, but most of them are in girly colours. I'm thinking will a boy be cool in bubblegum pink fuzzibunz?

I used shaped terries when DD was little, but sold a whole load just before I got my BFP . I've got a few still to hang onto but will need to buy more when new bub arrives as pockets are mainly fuzzis and medium sized. But if my nappy business is up and running by then, at least I'll get them wholesale

pinkyminky · 15/04/2008 15:03

That could be a very dangerous business to be in. Though you could justify that you have tried out all the types of nappies you sell for research purposes!

Pinkali37 · 15/04/2008 15:32

Smiles - I am according to first scan 9 + 4 today but according to 2nd scan 9 + 5 today so we are pretty similar. I am pleased that you also feel fine. My tiredness I would say is the same but everything has gone. It worrie sme but i've decided to try and chill and just think of myself as lucky. Someone has to be plus it is always nice to hear other people say the same. That's why I went for my 2nd scan b/c mw scared me into thinking something was wrong cos ms whad gone early! I have my dating scan next wednesday when i will be 10 + 6 so will be pleased to see PEA on that (praying all is fine) because as symptoms have gone it will rest my mind assured that all is fine. HOPEFULLY

Oblomov · 15/04/2008 15:42

I didn't go to Kings today. Ds was too ill. Next diabetic clinic is on tuesday in 2 weeeks time. Do I wait until then for a scan ? Or I could go up on friday. I was scanned 2 weeks ago. And I was desperate for another and was so excited all weekend, just waiting for today, to go to kings. I need confirmation that everything is o.k.
What to do ?

pinkyminky · 15/04/2008 15:59

Sorry to hear that, oblomov. Hope your DS feels better soon.
Can you give your MW a ring and ask for another scan? Is there a local clinic that might fit you in? I don't know a lot about getting extra scans, since I've never had one, just the 12 and 20 weeks.Hope you get sorted out.

Pinkali37 · 15/04/2008 16:01

Ob - Sorry to sound stupid but how far are you again and am I correct to think you've had bleeding? At what stage were you with previosu scans?

lackaDAISYcal · 15/04/2008 16:04

oblomov, I said on the other thread as well....go on Friday or you'll just worry yourself sick about it if you have to wait another two weeks.

pinkyminky · 15/04/2008 16:06

Having a bleed won't automatically get you a scan I've had them and just had monitoring, you would need to have other symptoms.

Pinkali37 · 15/04/2008 16:17

i've had 2 early scans just by being a nutter on the telephone. Actually my doc suggested first one and played on endometriosis and 2nd one was offered to me directly by EPAU after ringing and being worried. When i telephone MW to move dating scan forward i made the mistake of telling her that i'd had 2 previous scans. She said that they may not let me have my dating scan as they woudl take the one I had at 8 wk 4 days as it. I asked if she had to tell anyone and she said no so luckily i'm getting my next one on 23/4. It's so strange how all the areas differ.

Pinkali37 · 15/04/2008 16:20

Pinky, have just noticed your scan is tomorrow. Good Luck and hope all goes well. x

Oblomov · 15/04/2008 16:29

Cheers guys, I will ring tomorrow am.
I am 9 weeks now. Scanned at 7 weeks. Kings generally scan diabetics every 2 weeks, esp in early and late, not so much in the middle, unless necessary. I mmc at 8 weeks last time. No bleeding. I haven't actually got a MW yet, becaue Kings don't do that until 12 weeks I think. Locl EPU is shit and I have had a battles with them already in the last few weeks and refuse to deal witht them again.

pinkyminky · 15/04/2008 16:30

YEs I'm very excited.
I think one of the things about extra scans, aside from the cost is there is a policy here of trying to treat prgnancy as a normal part of life, and not to over medicalise it, which is why antenatal appointments don't start til after 20 weeks. It's a bit like the doppler- you have to be careful not to get hung up on getting scans and hearing the heartbeat all the time- it can make you more worried. Pregnancy is a long waiting game. Obviously if you have other medical concerns that may affect your baby, extra monitoring will be offered. Don't mean to go on,I just didn't want to sound dismissive.

Oblomov · 15/04/2008 16:31

My Gp rang the EPU and demanded i was scanned a couple of weeks ago and they stil didn't !!!!
Not everyones EPU is good.

Oblomov · 15/04/2008 16:31

Good luck Pinky.

pinkyminky · 15/04/2008 16:35

surely if you have mitigating circumstances for not making your routine scan appointment, they could refer you to somewhere more local for a one- off? That's ridiculous.

bubbaz · 15/04/2008 16:56

Hi hope everyone is OK today. I had my dating scan this afternoon and they have moved my date forward to Nov 6th.I will update on the other thread. My Bean was jumping around like a nutter
