Here's our shiney, new and slightly ameneded thread to reflect our main topic of conversation recently! Really didn't want to mention the cheese and rice in the same sentence, but as it is a favourite with so many of you, I had to add it in, sorry to Hanaflower!

I leave you lot for a day and you write 5 pages! Good grief.

I'm glad that we're all going through the same stuff - I always feel better after a good read of this thread! I had a day this week with no symptoms and got a bit worried. Now I'm back to being starving hungry and exhausted so it's all good! Well, it's crap, but you know what I mean...

I've been using Palmers cocoa butter on my rapidly growing everything. Don't know if it's working but it feels and smells nice.

Just got a massive box of maternity clothes from my friend - so happy. I started wearing maternity jeans 2 weeks ago, but then had to start wearing long tops to cover the tell-tale stretchy pocket bits on the jeans! Most of my tops are too tight now anyway.

bubbaz · 14/04/2008 21:37

Well I used bio oil religously in my last pg and still got loads of stretch marks (Although i'm convinced they all appeared in my overdue days!!) but it is still very lovely and makes your skin all soft so I will use it again.
Glad to hear you are feeling better now Oblomov.
I've got my scan tomorrow but I am quite relaxed after the one I had last week. I'm quite excited to see how much it has changed.

pinkyminky · 14/04/2008 21:38

H&M do really nice maternity things, don't they. Yay for your scan date!

Lolis · 14/04/2008 21:43

What's the view out there on alcohol? I've given up completely but was kind of thinking of having half a glass of something once a week after 1st trimester. However, DH, parents and in-laws (although none of their business) are insisting I don't drink at all. What are people thinking of doing/have done before?

Told mother in law I'm going to buy an amazing bottle of red, save it and drink it after the birth, and she told me I couldn't if I breast feed. Grrrrrr I can't stand it! Is this really necessary?

pinkyminky · 14/04/2008 21:44

Actually, not so yay, mummy- that's quite late isn't it. On the other hand, there will be more to see which will be nice.
RE-oil thing- I'm getting the impression the main thing is we just like the way our bumps feel after putting our favourite oil/butter on it- prolly has a very soothing effect and eases itching. I think I'll stick with what I have then as funds are tight here.

pinkyminky · 14/04/2008 21:52

Lolis- people love telling you what you can and can't do when pregnant. I remember someone shouting down a large table in Pizza express- friend of the friend whose birthday it was- that I couldn't eat my pizza because it had tuna on it. This from someone who I know smoked when pregnant!
I have an glass of wine - once a month?
I have never noticed any effect of a couple of glasses of wine or half of guinness on either of my breastfed babies, but I really don't drink very much at all

mummyhill · 15/04/2008 07:12

I tend to limit myself to one unit of alcohol per week when pregnant. I can easily polish off a bottle of wine every 2days if given the excuse when not pregers. An occasional glass whilst breast feeding won't hurt either.

I have my homestart lady telling me I am doing to much, don't climb up there to dust that shelf (why not did it whilst pregnant with the other 2) Don't you move this/that/the other again why not? I was cleaning the pub cellar out at 6 months pregnant on my own with first, lugging screaming moaning toddler around till I was induced with the second. I do know my own limits people. I am not ill just pregnant! Sorry but it is a pet hate being told what I can and can't do! Does everything stop for women in the rest of the world because they are expecting? No they have to bloody well get on with it. So as long as we are being sensible and working within our own bodies tolerances leave us alone!

Oblomov · 15/04/2008 07:24

I got up to hang dh's mums curtains. " oh you can't do that in your condition" she said. Oh o.k. then, let an 77 year old who is unsteady on her feet get up and do it then !!
Really. As Mummyhill says, I am not ill.
I had a glass of wine the other night. I take all theis food restrictions with a pinch of ......

Pinkali37 · 15/04/2008 09:07

Morning Everyone,

I am 9 wk 5 days and really have no clue by looking at my tummy that i'm pregnant. Is this because it is my first? I think I read that when you are on to your 2nd, 3rd etc.. that you start to show a lot sooner. This started to worry me as I have no sign of having a PEA in my tummy...

lackaDAISYcal · 15/04/2008 09:36

The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists advice on drinnking is still the same; one or two units, once or twice a week. The governemnt admitted last year that their "No alcohol whilst pregnant" guidline came about because they don't believe some women know what a unit of alcohol is and go over this so felt they should err on the side of caution (basically they think we're too stupid to stop at one glass)

Not drinking whilst BFing is one of those common breast feeding misconceptions. you can still enjoy a couple of glasses without damaging your baby. There is lots of info on www.kellymom.com. No need to pump and dump as some suggest.

sorry if that sounds preachy , but i'm just starting my peer supporter training and have been doing lots of research on the most common myths associated with breast feeding. There is a good thread on here about it at the minute, if anyone is interested...

serendippity · 15/04/2008 09:39

hello all
pinkali i didn't show until i was 3 months with dd, i really think you just show earlier with subsiquent babies don't worry
lolis i drink a small glass of wine on a friday, and did with dd as well, very occasionaly 2 when it got later into the pregancy. If i don't have wine, occasionaly i have a pint of shandy (very weak, i watch them pour it) when i'm out for dinner or big family lunch.
As for food restrictions, i ate brie baked in a dish last week, which is perfectly fine, but wouldn't eat it cold. When i was pregnant with dd i ate a tuna a sweetcorn roll ever single day until i was 7 months pregnant, and then 1 day before i was due to start maternity leave the news started telling everyone to avoid it!! I freaked out, called the midwife, called the doctor, called dp at work I was utterly convinced i'd turned dd into a 3 eyed 4 legged freaked...she was born on time and completly healthy I'm not saying to completly disregard advice given, i haven't eaten tuna this pregnancy at all, and i'm limiting my caffine intake BUT like Oblomov, i take it all with a pinch of..the stuff no ones allowed to eat anymore
I am going maternity clothes shopping this weekend! I spotted some really nice maternity jeans in Dorethy Perkins i want to get my mitts on, still cannot believe i threw out all my old ones
My mother is coming to stay for 2 days on Thursday. How the bloody hell i am going to get away with not smoking (i used to when i went out), not drinking and having a bump i do not know. But dp and i are keen not to tell anyone including family until 3 months.

lackaDAISYcal · 15/04/2008 09:50

I think with DS I didn't show until about 4 months. I certainly wasn't wearing proper maternity clothes until around 18-20 weeks, just elasticated waisted trousers till that point.

With DD I was in maternity trousers from about 12 weeks.

With this one, I've been wearing maternity trousers since 8 weeks

I think your body "remembers" its pregnant state and weakened tummy muscles help it get back there really quickly. Well that's my excuse anyway

pinkyminky · 15/04/2008 09:58

My tummy definitely remembers! Seems to only remember the bit from when I was about six months pregnant, not the first few months where it doesn't show.
Tuna- I think it's something like no more than two cans a week and one fresh steak- I don't think you have to avoid it completely.

Pinkali37 · 15/04/2008 10:02

Oh thank you everyone. I prod my tummy and it just doesn't feel any different, then when I read that other people were wearing bump bands and maternity clothes i freaked.

I feel great today. Boobs still don't hurt (which I still think is a bad sign but because other people said there's had stopped I didn;t feel so bad) but had 12 hours sleep last night and have decided that is what I need everynight.

Lolis · 15/04/2008 10:12

I'm so glad you're not all pious teetotallers! I think I will have the odd drink when I'm past the food aversion phase, but it will have to be behind DH's back....

Just remembered it's DH's birthday tomorrow and I haven't got him anything! Will have to wander to the nearest shop at lunch time and hope the nausea will have worn off by then. 2 weeks to go til scan!!!

Hana - If you press your lower tummy does it feel any different? I don't think mine does. Are your boobs still tender because mine has stopped. I haven't drunk a thing since finding out I was pregnant but on Saturday my mum and step dad brought some champagne over to celebrate something and I stuck my tongue in it and it tasted awful. Now i love champagne ordinarily so I think it must be like Hana said, my bodies natural thing of saying NO don't do it.

That is the thing about alcohol isn't it. I had a really nice glass of pinot noir on Saturday and it tasted like vinegar! no point forcing it down just for the hell of it.

Same thing went with chocolate at the weekend, and my toothpaste is leaving a decidedly nasty taste in my mouth. I can't wait for this stage to be over now.

chocolategal · 15/04/2008 10:44

pinkali- my boob tenderness has reduced over the last few days too, as has my nausea which of course makes you panic but my sensible head just tells me its cos im 10weeks now and hormones are levelling off.

i havent been drinking and wont throughout the remainder of pregnancy, dont even think i'll miss it! Definately wont miss the hangovers!!!!

Heartmum2Jamie · 15/04/2008 10:45

Pinkali, my tummy doesn't feel any different yet when pressed and this is my 3rd, lol! No tender boobs either (haven't been tender at all, just a bit of nip soreness to start with).

I was told by my GP "NO alcohol", but I am sure he is just being over cautious given my ds2's health issues. I have been very strict this trimester and doubt I will drink much next trimester either (save 30th birthday where I am sure I wil be convinced to have 1!) IN the 3rd trimester, I usually end up with iron problems and the tablets don't agree with me at all, so I usually end up altering my diet to an iron rich one and drinking a bit of stout or guiness! I also agree that there is nothing to really stop you having the odd drink when you breastfeed, just use your common sense!

Oh, and I am also getting the "You shouldn't be doing that" or "let me get that for you". I have to remind dh that I am not an invalid, although I do appreiciate the thought!

HI
all

I can't keep up with you!
I am with you all on the alcohol thing...i haven't really fancied it, but have had the odd shandy now and then and had a glass of champagne with DH's mum and dad when we found out.
oblomov - i am with you on the food thing as well, prob because my background is in food, but i think alot of it is scaremongering...i remember a friends midwife told her not to eat icecream!!!! bizarre...

I had my booking in app yesterday, all went fine, but i have been told that because DS2 was so large (10lb) so DC3 could possibly be bigger i will have to be under consultant led care rather than midwife led care, not realy sure what it means, other than an extra scan or 2, i guess the risk of complications, c section etc. are greater with bigger babies. Apparantly biggerbabies are also associated with diabetes, but as I am 5'10" and DH is 6'4", I think that's got more to do with his size than any health problems!

Pinkali37 · 15/04/2008 11:01

YIPPEE i feel almost normal !!!!! I am 10 weeks on thursday so presume my levels are just settling. I feel so good after my 12 hours sleep.

Still every now and again feel a bit icky when think about certain foods but OH MY GOD I'M HAVING A BABY!!!!!

mad4mybaby · 15/04/2008 12:38

glad your feeling well pinkali. I still havent really had that 'im actually pg' moment yet. maybe at 12 week scan!

Did you read my posts below? Was asking you what othet products you use on your skin along ? What face wash, cleanser and moisterisor? Also you said you are on pills, what are they?

Pinkali37 · 15/04/2008 12:46

Sorry MAD... right i'm on (please excuse spelling) Erthromycin (but thought you said you were allergic or have i just made that up?) I use the lotion i told you about. I also use Neutrogena day oil free moisturiser (but somtimes it dries my skins out so i have to use my night one on forehead) and also a night cream at the moment i think it is L'oreal. I never suffered with bad skin all throughout teenage years and then 2 years ago after first operation for Endometriosis it just went wild. I thought it was hormones linked with op but consultant said it is acne. If i showed you a pick of my face you would probably laugh because I haven't really got any (actually apart from this last week when they have flared up a bit). When i first found out i was prg my acupunturist suggested i gave up the Erthromycin and i did for 2 weeks but my skin flared up and it made me really uphappy. Consultant said some people have to be on it for up to 3 years but my idea is that once I stop breast feeding I will ask to go on roacatin (my sister had this and also had awful skin for years and she now has the most beautiful skin ever). Only reason i'm on Ery... is because he knew we were ttc. Are yours really bad??
