Poledra · 25/04/2008 10:41

Sorry, that was a very self-centred post! I hope everyone is feeling better this morning. SK, how's your cold?
How's the potty trainig going for all the 2-yos? I've been putting dd2 on the potty for quite a while now, but she never does anything, then gets up and wees on the carpet! She knows what she's doing, as she says 'Oh dear, mummy!' My mum is coming to stay when No.3 is born, so we'll get dd2 into knickers then, when grandma's around to help with the laundry

Disney, good to see you back. Glad your scan went well too.

Pigleychez, I did the Lucozade thing yesterday too. I don't mind it, but trying to drink it all in less than 5 minutes is a bit of a challenge - drinking fizzy stuff quickly is not good when you have a tendency to heartburn already!

mummypig · 25/04/2008 10:43

hi everyone wow I don't think I have been on here for a while, and although I've just spent about half an hour reading messages I've forgotten most of what people said . Good to see disney back and hello to excited new person.

Disney, my sis was on the same anti-D as you and had to cut down very slowly in pregnancy. I hate it when the docs dismiss the side-effects of going on or coming off drugs as if they don't make any difference. Anyway taking things one step at a time sounds very reasonable.

thanks everyone for the hospital bag lists. Like sweetkitty I am planning a home birth but I'd like to have a bag packed just in case. I also don't have any care arranged for the boys, I'd better start thinking of that soon.

I've been spending loads of money recently. There's the payment for the holiday which I paid for on credit card but will be going out of my bank account soon. Both the boys are having proper organised birthday parties this year, which we've never done before. Plus I have a new cleaner through an agency, and the agency fee has just gone out. Plus I'm trying to get sorted with regular food deliveries so I don't have to worry about that after the baby arrives. Then I bought some clothes for ds1 for school, and new maternity jeans for me. And I haven't even paid the midwife or the doula yet. I'm enjoying being a stay-at-home mum but I think I'll have to ask dp to put some more money in my account to cover everything!

I think I've had salmonella poisoning this week. I had terrible stomach cramps a couple of days ago and other symptoms too, so I knew it was my gastro-intestinal system not the baby. Anyway yesterday I got an e-mail from Ocado saying they were recalling the houmous that I'd received in my order on Friday, because routine testing had revealed salmonella in one batch. I had got through most of the pot . I've checked on the internet and although we're all told to be terribly careful in pregnancy it's unlikely that it has caused the baby any harm. I seem to have recovered from it by now.

The only other niggle is some terrible itching but I'm going to see a herbalist tomorrow who comes highly recommended so I'm looking forward to coming home with a magic tincture or cream that will stop me scratching at night.

and... dp and I got married on Tuesday . We're keeping it terribly quiet (i.e. I haven't told anyone except the two witnesses, not even my boys or my sister). But I'm quite excited about it so it's nice to let someone know... I hope no-one recognises me from real life but if you do, please please don't let on. I don't think my family cares about whether we have a big do or not, or even if we are married or not, but dp's family believe in doing things 'properly'. And his sister is getting married next year and I don't want to offend her by appearing to steal her thunder or anything like that.

better go now as ds2 has been sitting watching Thomas for a while and I feel guilty if I don't do something a bit more worthy in the mornings.

Minkus · 25/04/2008 10:50

Pigley tell your boss that the drink has made you feel really sick! (I know it did with me last time)

I was supposed to have the glucose tolerance test a fortnight ago, but completely forgot about it as it was on the day I went back to work and guess I was worrying about that so much I just didn't remember, dur. Will have to re-schedule.

And re leaking boobies, yep mine are gearing up. Had a v rude dream the other morning which woke me up and was a bit to see a big yellow patch of colostrum on my sheets!

Glad scans sounding positive poledra. Was it you who posted about having a nightmare MIL a few days ago? If so has she been a pain since?

I don't work Fridays and tbh I am soooo glad- starting to get really tired recently (being back at work has made a difference- I'm glad I'm there for adult contact etc but soooo knackered by the time I get home at 6.30) so today ds and I are having a really slobby day, we're still in our pj's and likely to stay that way for a good while yet! Didn't even hear dh's alarm, only woke up when he was getting ready to leave the house as ds had woken up by then and I could hear them playing downstairs laughing at each other. Was nice to have a little lie in even if it was only until 7.45

Anyone else getting really tired? Can't remember this last time round.

Have a good day all

Congratulations mummypig

Poledra · 25/04/2008 10:57

Twasn't me with the nightmare MIL Minkus - mine is lovely! Does my ironing and housework when she's staying with us.

Congratulations mummypig and daddypig! Here's to many loving years together!

EEC · 25/04/2008 11:28

Mummypig - that is so excitinjg. How can you possibly keep it to yourself!!! (although I guess most of us kept the news of our babies to ourselves for a few months!)Huge congrats.

TJuice · 25/04/2008 11:39

CONGRATS; MUMMYPIG!

i think its really sweet and special, when its just all about the two of you. although i think lots of family and friends would disagree.

i got a date for my marriage - 30th May. I will be the size of a planet by then but hey ho. My parents and brother will fly over and my dad says he will pay for a champagne brunch the next day for some friends but i am still dithering.

he is psyched though and wants to get a date for our proper do in Jamaica next September! he really is a sweetie. i should finish my masters thesis - that would really make him happy (he so on my case about it!)

glad the weather will be good over there. its nice here but i got conned by the weather report and am in a too short long-sleeved t-shirt with a short-sleeved cardigan on top, which i can't take off. so i feel all heavy, sweaty and rank. i just want to go home, take a bath, wash my hair, have a nice kip and chill . . .

i think you're having a boy too, pigley! but then, how the hell would we know . . .

congrats on positive scans and midwives appointments, poledra and kat.

Kaz1967 · 25/04/2008 11:50

pigley and Poledra I have my GTT soon too I can't drink lucozade so I have to get hold of 45g glucose no idea where from plus I don't do not eating this little one wakes me for a snack at 4 am let alone missing out on breakfast by the bloody time I have this done I am going to be on the floor and I don't do sweet stuff I am really worried it will just make me puke I really really don't want to do it.

Libra1975 · 25/04/2008 11:55

TJuice, sounds great, I think you should let your dad pay for champagne brunch for your friends the next day parents like to be involved and he's obv interested in your life which is lovely.

Personally I can't wait to embarasses my first born by telling his/her friends he/she was at the wedding but they were still in my tummy. (Like my father does everytime egypt or camel riding is mentioned .

BrownOwl18 · 25/04/2008 12:29

Many congratulations Mummypig.

Pigley - thanks for the info. I don't have any symptoms so far so hopefully I should be OK. DS on the other hand looks like a tomato, poor thing!

sweetkitty · 25/04/2008 12:30

Afternoon ladies wow it's all happening in here

Mummypig - congratulations, thats how I want to get married very quietly just the two of us. TBH I think it would be very rare for you to have contracted Salmonella food poisoning (your symptoms don't sound bad enough) however it is possible. Do you have any of the houmous left? If you have I would take it back to Waitrose and ask them to sedn it away for testing and lodge a formal complaint as well. Even if you haven't got any left write to their customer services, at worst you will get a money off voucher! I also know what you mean about the money, money, money thing I seem to be spending like mad just now, DD1 has finally went through a growth spurt and is needing 3-4yo clothes all of a sudden (she's 4 in July and dinky), they both need new shoes (have just bought trainers), spent about £40 just on pants, vests, PJs and socks for them too it seems like it's neverending.

Minkus - I'm constantly shattered too and am with you on the leaky boobs.

Butterfly - I have put DD2 back in pullups for now will try again next month I think that was the original plan.

Tjuice - how exciting having a date for your wedding

poledra - great news on the more positive scan

kaz - sorry about your wasted journey yesterday too

Thanks for all your weel wishes means a lot, been a rough few days, I know it's only a cold and usually it just leaves you feeling a bit rough for a few days but when you are pregnant it seems to be so much worse. The cough has left me really sore but seems to have eased a bit thank goodness, the coughing, being sick and peeing myself at the same was not good. I have been so miserable this week but DP is off tomorrow and has promised me he will take the girls out and let me sleep for a bit.

Big hellos to everyone else as usual a mammoth pose

isaidno · 25/04/2008 13:11

Congrats mummypig!!!!
Hello everyone else xx

mummypig · 25/04/2008 13:41

Hello again and thanks for all your congratulations, it's nice that I don't have to completely keep it to myself any more.

That's reassuring that you don't think I got salmonella sweetkitty, I chucked away the houmous but Ocado gave us money off anyway. It just seemed really strange that it came on so suddenly and I couldn't think of anything else it might be.

Lots of sympathy for kaz, pigley, poledra, minkus and anyone else who's had a GTT or doing one soon. I had to do 3 tests in my first pregnancy as the first one was too early to mean anything so I had to do another a few weeks later. And then late in pregnancy I changed care and booked with a different hospital and they made me do it all over again . I absolutely hate being starved overnight and hate those glucose drinks. My sister has been in a similar position with doing lots of tests. We both seem to have a fair bit of glucose in our urine whenever we are pregnant but always pass the GTT. Luckily my current midwives don't worry about it too much unless there are other signs of diabetes, and have even stopped testing my urine for glucose as they say it's not recommended as a routine test any more.

Sweetkitty I hope you recover soon, I remember how horrible it was coughing and losing bladder control earlier on this year. I bet you're looking forward to your rest tomorrow.

congrats on the positive scan poledra, and hope you have a good weekend minkus.

Minkus · 25/04/2008 14:05

Pigley I reckon you're baking a girl! And Kaz I think yours is a boy. With ds I had such a strong feeling he was going to be a boy even though we didn't know from scans etc, but with this one I have no idea whatsoever.

Tjuice champagne brunch sounds lovely if it's something you actually want- I know parents (especially dads) like to treat their daughters when they get married but if the brunch isn't your thing then can understand if you are in two minds. I think it sounds great though so if you decide against it send your dad over here and he can treat me instead!

I have just finished knitting my blanket!!! I can't believe I did it!

RUMPEL · 25/04/2008 14:42

Hi All,

CONGRATS MUMMYPIG why are you not telling anyone though? Are you calling your LO Peppa Do you know what your cooking?

It is really hard to keep up with everyone!!

SWEETKITTY - ear candling is fantastic for sinus probs - really relaxing too especially when pg. I did it for a few of my pg friends - sounds off but it is actually deeply relaxing.

I'm not going to bother seeing mw until I am 30ish weeks. Don't see the point really - I feel fine, just knackered but DD has been crying out in her sleep and had meup in the night for the past few nights and when she doesn't I end up with insomnia!! I am trying to potty train her - she has done 1 wee in the potty, but she suffers awful constipation so never sure if she is actually going to produce or not. haven't tried pull ups with her - I just take her nappy off and let her roam free

I am feeling worried at the mo'. One of my friends form where I used to live has had 3 mc and is now 5ish months gone. She was told high risk for Downs form blood tests but scan looked okay. She was going for a scan Monday past and when I texted her she replied she couldn't talk as too upset. I still havent' heard and keep thinking about her.
Also my Mum is going into hospital today for an ECG and ultrasound of her heart. She finally told me last night that there is aproblem with her valves in her left ventricle. I knew something was wrong but assumed it was hardening fo the arteries. I hope she is okay and doesn't need an op as she is a nighmare when it comes to medical intervention.

DISNEY - good to hear you sounding a bit more positive. Am going to nag you again about seeing your GP for a chat though - won't do you any harm after all.

POLEDRA - glad things are looking up for your beanie.

TWINKLE - have the London lot lain off now?

We are going off to the baby show tomorrow to spend some cash. Expensive month for us too - getting a shower put in the bathroom - so DH doesn't wake Lo when he/she comes along, tiles up, few days at Crieff hydro and 2 cat boosters due!!Thank goodness for credit cards!!

Well must go get DD up or she will never sleep tonight agian.

Take care all.

Mummywannabe · 25/04/2008 15:41

My friend had a baby girl last night, the photo of her she sent made me burst into tears , 61b 5. Sounds like she had a bad time at hospital, her 2nd child so has a previous experience. Lucky for me we are gonna be at a different hospital.

All seems far to real now

Kaz1967 · 25/04/2008 16:13

mummypig this is what bugs me even when I stuff my face I get no sugar in my urine and my blood sugars stay normal My baby is the usual size (just below 50th centile) and I have none of the reason that would indicate I have a problem with diabetes. The reason they want me to have it done is my weight and only my weight they get one shot at this (if I have it at all) because I am really really not happy about having it done just because it is part of their new protocol I want to know the reasons behind that. If I had any reason to suspect I had a problem then I would not hesitate but to feel crap for the rest of the day just because they have a box to tick is really not on as far as I am concerned.

twinkle1 · 25/04/2008 17:35

Mummypig- Congrats on the wedding!! Any pics??
We got married almost a year ago (June) and loved every minute

Minkus- My leaking has only been a tiny tiny bit. I think id completely freak out to wake to a huge patch!!

Tjuice- Great you have a date! How very exciting! I love a wedding! The champagne brunch sounds lovely..Lap up being spoilt! It is your wedding!!!

sweetkitty- Enjoy your day of rest tomorrow, sounds lovely!

Rumpel- Enjoy the baby show tomorrow.

Mummywannabe- I know what you mean about feeling real all of a sudden. I only have 13 more days of work! and my sister is due in 4 weeks time, and im only 7 weeks behind her.

Twinkle- Enjoy the wedding. Heard the weathers going to be nice so you should be ok in your dress.

minipinkscottish · 25/04/2008 19:40

Huge congratulations Mummypig - very exciting!!!

TIRED - did someone say TIRED - I feel so sluggish and heavy it's awful!! I am finding even the smallest activities a real trial. Also feel like my heart is racing and I am short of breath when doing anything. Had appointment at hosp today and they said everything was okay although I am definately big for dates. Got blood taken to check everything and also had thyroid checked again as I am on thyroxin already. maybe something will show up that will help - extra thyroxin or iron ??????
Also got anti D jag today as I'm Rhesus Neg. - OMG I forgot how stingy it is - and another one at 34 weeks too!!!

Are we all over 28 weeks now? Should we have third trimester thread??? xx

min912 · 25/04/2008 20:32

Evening all, apologies for not being around in sooooo long... no real reason, and then I didn't feel like I had the time to catch up on all the posts... so I have no idea what has been going on for everyone, sorry! But very very exciting news Mummypig!! I overheard a couple talking about getting married last week and I felt a bit sad as they didn't sound very excited... love good wedding chat.

Not much to report here, am feeling big and clumsy - keep underestimating size of bump and turning into things. Had annoying MW appt yesterday - they put someone else without an appt ahead of me, didn't put the date for my next visit in so I'm going to have to ring back, bruised my arm badly for 5ml of blood, didn't give me my MATB1 form... oh, and the JR hospital has lost my notes from last time apparently. honestly, if this was first time around I'd be feeling quite badly looked after!!

Good news, DS has been walking for over 3 weeks now and has taken to it like proverbial duck to water, very confident now, and it's definitely made life easier. Also I am now socialising with other mums from signing group which is nice, I worry that I'm not very good at making friends in my old age (ok wasn't that great when younger either).

Good to be back!

disneystar · 25/04/2008 22:39

Hello! Just joined Mumsnet and found this page! I am due 20th July so I hope I am in the right place. This is my second baby and I already have a 3 year old daughter. Realise I need to go and learn the language/abbreviations! Feeling very pregnant this week...anyway just wanted to say hello!
