Babes in Scotland this year - shall we have our own thread?

Hi, I can't see any up to date antenatal threads for mums to be in Scotland, anyone want to join in this one? I think there are a few Scottish mums on the due in June thread, so I wondered if we should have our very own for all of this year's Scottish crop?

OP posts:

Minipink, sizing and dating scans are notoriously inaccurate. I really hope they don't coerce you into an induction and you then birth a tiddler......

Dizzy I am pleased to hear that you're under Mr Nicoll. He's very woman and baby centred. he complains if inductions are scheduled earlier than 39wks merely for convenience. Research shows that babies do better at 39wks rather than 38. He also does a more 'natural' section and sent me a good description of what he does. There was an article in the Guardian some time ago about a Prof in London who was more thoughtful about his sections.

klaw hi tis great to see you - all well I hope?

you'd be proud - have booked osteopath for fri and when there will discuss reflexology and homeopathy

am about to phone local yoga instructor who does private sessions to see if there is anything he can help me with

have been reading Stand and Deliver and a book by Ina May Gaskin

have meeting with Mr Nicoll next Wed and want to go in well enough armed to make an informative decision rather than bury my head in the sand as usual

have been having BH for ages so surely that must be a good sign?!?

finished work yesterday, feet are like puddings, pelvis sore and having horrible leg cramps for its all about me for the next wee while

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 12:16

am just hoping its not all too late to help

Klaw · 10/06/2008 12:43

minipink Are they remembering that this is dc6 and that your abdominal muscles are not going to hold it in as well as dc1? Women with a fair few children nearly ALWAYS measure big!!!

Dizzy you'll be relieved to finish work then! Definitely look after yourself now, take it easy, enjoy the warmer weather with your dc, but no heroics!!!!

If you want to meet up for a chat in Dundee then please CAT me

minipinkscottish · 10/06/2008 13:21

Klaw - I have fab MW who knows me very well and despite this being number 6 I am definately larger than I should be at this stage. The worry for me is not big baby or average sized baby if scan is inaccurate it is the huge amount of fluid that has developed. It hasn't been guaged from only one scan but has been seen to be rising over several.

I would have loved another HB but tbh I am shattered and very tender all over tummy and my feet are huge - all things I have never experienced before.

Thanks for your concern - I will not let them bully me into anything I am not happy with but at the moment I am grateful for the extra monitoring and the good care I am getting xx

Klaw · 10/06/2008 13:38

well definitely ask to use the MLU rather than the main obs unit, if you labour at Forth Park. I'm well impressed with the fact they facilitate VBACs in the MLU so believe they would be great for normal labour.

You may well have a lot of amnio fluid but hopefully it won't create any disasters!

dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 15:48

Klaw do you know any local yoga teachers personally or by reputation? Have a list but not sure about phoning up for private session with someone I haven't been recommended iyswim? not to panic if you don't

Klaw · 11/06/2008 19:16

Sorry Dizzy, I don't. But I could try asking aroubd if you want.... I'll email the consultant midwife and pick her brains

dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 19:34

thanks klaw

the active birth centre names someone in Cupar and there is a male one at waterstone crook in Newport that apparently does private sessions

the yoga association scotland has a list of local ones but none specify pregnancy related teaching so am at a bit of a loss without some direction - was also going to ask at the Osteopath on Fri too

Klaw · 11/06/2008 20:04

Right I've emailed cons mw and also a mw that takes Yoga classes in Aberdeen, in case either of them have any recommendations.

Watch this space, hopefully

dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 20:06

you are a star

now get yourself back over to the local thread and have a look at the new dates lol

Klaw · 11/06/2008 20:28

dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 20:32

dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 20:36

sorry!!!

Klaw · 11/06/2008 22:18

((((Dizzy)))) It's OK, I forgive you!

Sort of thing I do and I'm not pg...

dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 22:19

you did see the fact that PPC and I are only going if you are to make sure minipink doesn't drop on the trampoline didn't you

Klaw · 11/06/2008 22:34

Err, I think you were saying that you were going to stop her.....

dizzydixies · 11/06/2008 22:40

for all the use I'd be in my condition lol

Klaw · 12/06/2008 14:13

you could sit on her.....

dizzydixies · 12/06/2008 16:43

poor minipink - no wonder she hasn't posted today lol

minipinkscottish · 12/06/2008 19:50

Hee! Hee! Like that you have been considering birth plans for me in our trip to Cairnie xxLOL

Well actually it might not be a bad idea - I just got home from hosp an hour ago after going in at lunch time yesterday.
Long story - short version.....had severe apin in right side and assumed urine infection AGAIN!! Got worse and worse so phoned and went down to FP - by the time I arrived was contracting every 5mins

Spent 4 hours in labour ward and things eased off...spent night in ward...started bleeding during night....errosion of cervix seemingly but 3-4cm dilated???
Klaw - you'll like this bit....saw fab consultant this morning who really listened and agreed that 1. it is big baby and so is making uterus irritable 2. perfectly healthy baby 3. rise in fluid normal for big baby and BEST BIT - 4. I can have home birth if I hold on for 3 weeks and if not I can go to MLU

So ladies there will be no bouncing on trampolines for me xxx when is it anyway? did I miss that when I was scanning posts? Must go back and read it properly xx

dizzydixies · 12/06/2008 19:54

minipink, what a worry for you - am glad after all that you're sounding happier though!

we're now talking about weekend of 21st or 22nd but am not sure if you'll hang on in there lol

minipinkscottish · 12/06/2008 19:58

I seem to be jumping thread to thread and getting myself in a muddle - easy for me really

22nd please as have party on the 21st....my 40th birthday is on the 23rd so I will be having a large strawberry tart but will not jumping around a lot

Looking forward to it!!

Klaw · 12/06/2008 21:20

22nd is it then! >

minipink I'm well impressed with your cons. I had heard, from Forth Park MLU mw, that cons do recommend the MLU to mums, even those wanting a VBAC. We need the Dundee lot to learn a thing or two... Hopefully they'll be more like yours once the MLU opens there later in the year
