Babes in Scotland this year - shall we have our own thread?

Hi, I can't see any up to date antenatal threads for mums to be in Scotland, anyone want to join in this one? I think there are a few Scottish mums on the due in June thread, so I wondered if we should have our very own for all of this year's Scottish crop?

klaw am considering it to be honest BUT its the only time I'll see the consultant so I might as well as I haven't decided re the birth yet

am I in denial that baby has to come out - yes I believe I am

good to hear from you Klaw

Klaw · 24/05/2008 19:39

Do you NEED to see a cons? sorry, brain cannot recall what issues might need to be discussed.

I'm usually always around, maybe not posting that much. Feeling a bit low today

dizzydixies · 24/05/2008 19:59

ooh klaw whats up? anything I can help with

had two pretty problematic births both with big babies so am seen as a bit of a case all round

good news is got the all clear re current og problems last week at hosp so thats a start

Klaw · 25/05/2008 11:41

Dizzy, don't worry... I'm just sorry for myself because of a combination of AF arriving, not getting a doula job I was looking forward to, financial stresses, not seeing much of dp and then hayfever bothering me.... just life, you know?

Tell me more about the births with big babies please!

Klaw · 25/05/2008 11:49

Twinklingfairy, you are right to be cautious... Sizing scans are notoriously inaccurate, 48% of shoulder dystocia cases are apparently in babies less than 4kg which confirms that it's more to do with position of baby and also of mum when labouring that causes it. Being upright and mobile, even changing positon every 3 contractions, should help to get a baby shoogled out. Along with supportive HCPs who suggest things to help you rather than being left tied to a bed strapped to a monitor and told to call if there's a change in the trace...

minipinkscottish · 28/05/2008 14:20

Bloody rain!! What's everyone up to today?

xxxx

dizzydixies · 29/05/2008 14:45

just been into town and started my hosp bag - tis probably time I realised I AM in fact having a baby and to stop ignoring it all

sun shining this afternoon

LauraT · 30/05/2008 09:45

hmmm. must start hospital bag. this is a daily nag from DH now! am putting it off until I start Mat Leave (on Tuesday!!) Hooray. I think I will also make a trip to Bravissimo for measuring this week as nursing bras need to be bought... more money. sigh.

aberdeenhiker · 30/05/2008 11:22

LauraT - but money well spent - especially if you plan to breastfeed for a while. Plus then they are comfortable in second pregnancies - I've gotten so much wear out of mine!

sweetkitty · 30/05/2008 15:31

MW had a prod of my 34 week bump yesterday and asked me the weights of my other 2 (6lbs 3ozs and 9lbs 3ozs) then said I don't think this one will be a 9lber, how can she tell at this stage??? MW told me DD2 was going to be 7 1/2lbs

I have ordered some feeding bras from figleaves, kind of guess-timated sizes one of the bras was a comfy sleep bra so just came in back sizes. Will wait until milk has been in a few weeks and treat myself to a nice hotmilk one.

Only a few more things to get for hospital bag then I might actually pack it

minipinkscottish · 31/05/2008 16:54

SK - how did you measure for nursing bra? I can't be botheres going shopping for some as I'd have to go to Dundee or Edinburgh and so want to order online...any guidance please? xx

dizzydixies · 02/06/2008 00:01

minipink the NCT website have great advice re how to measure for a nursing bra - I started a thread and was given some good advice and a link the to the site

here

bitofadramaqueen · 02/06/2008 15:57

minipink I got fitted at bravissimo for nursing bras the other day...

Essentially the advice was to buy a nursing bra after 36 weeks - back size stays the same size (but it should fit comfortably on the loosest hooks, that way you can tighten it up as your ribs start to get back to normal) and go up one cup size. You can then wear the bra just now with some breast pads if you're worried about leaking, and it should still fit once your milk comes in.

The NCT also have 'bra ladies' dotted around the country who'll do a free fitting for you. The details are on the website. You can also buy directly from them or order elesewhere.

sweetkitty · 03/06/2008 12:18

minipink - I have kind of guessed really using past experience. I'm wearing a 36D right now but after DD2 my boobs shrunk to 34B/C so I thought I would go for a 34D which will allow for back shrinkage and give me a bit of room for milk.

I only bought one 34D bra and one is a sleep bra which is a really soft one that only comes in back sizes so I got a 34, hopefully they will arrive today.

I will wait 3-4 weeks then see what size I end up before ordering some more.

minipinkscottish · 03/06/2008 12:39

Thanks all for bra advice xxxxx

sweetkitty · 03/06/2008 13:10

Just as I finished typing a Royal Mail van turned up with my new bras, haven't tried them on yet but they look quite nice, the normal feeding bras is nice for a feeding bra, the sleep one looks like a sports bra.

dizzydixies · 03/06/2008 22:33

minipink only 3 more shifts then am all done finish up on Tues

minipinkscottish · 04/06/2008 11:05

Yippee!! dizzy - roll on Tuesday!!

dizzydixies · 04/06/2008 11:08

minipink girls are off nursery this week as have some weirdy virus which means they look like they have chicken pox even though they don't - should have bought sodding shared in kleenex the amount of snotters going on here too

both in good form AND slept through and thank god its stopped raining so I can at least chuck them out in the garden

dh, of course, has had to return to bed with his man flu having kept me awake since 5am with his bog eel snoring! has been well warned he's getting sympathy for one day only

how are you keeping? do you have everything all ready?

minipinkscottish · 04/06/2008 12:51

Oh no nothing worse than everyone being ill at once dizzy - especially dh - that's always hard!

I have had a bad back since Friday but today it seems to be easing off a bit - I hope
Got growth scan again on Friday to see if this LO has gotten any bigger or if growth is slowing down. I feel much bigger but who knows?????

Everything ready??? Well I'm a bit more organised than I was last week but I am now thinking that I need to pack a bag in case they decide to induce or I go early...will have to get new pj's and knickers and stuff but can't be arsed going shopping Would much rather sit in the sun and have a magnum - yum!

Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

dizzydixies · 04/06/2008 13:47

am nowhere near ready and everyone being a bit off colour this week has thrown that even further by the way side!! needs pyjamas and knickers too but also cannot be arsed, will justget some next time in tescos
magnum white boxes of 3 still on bogof in tesco - 6 for £1.90 - BARGIN!!!!

sweetkitty · 04/06/2008 14:14

hey lovely ladies, I've got everything for my bag just have to get it all packed (not that I plan to go to hospital but you have to have a just in case bag packed don't you? also it means that everything is in one place and it won't confuse DP).

Washed the moses basket and all the covers this morning too, feeling v organised.

All this talk of white magnums may have to slip some onto my Tesco order this week.

dizzydixies · 04/06/2008 14:21

show off
had planned to do more this week but needy dc and dh have put paid to that!

as long as your food shop doesn't come from MY stock of magnums - you carry on

sweetkitty · 04/06/2008 14:24

I have been more into banana and strawberry Solero's this week.

Feeling very smug now I am starting to get myself organised. Makes me scared though it's all becoming a bit too real.

whinegums · 04/06/2008 19:11

Hi everyone, this thread's gone a bit quiet - maybe because there's a bit of a gap between the last baby and the next due one?

How is everyone getting on? Any more updates - not sure where the most up to date list is...
