Babes in Scotland this year - shall we have our own thread?

Hi, I can't see any up to date antenatal threads for mums to be in Scotland, anyone want to join in this one? I think there are a few Scottish mums on the due in June thread, so I wondered if we should have our very own for all of this year's Scottish crop?

monkeytennis - glad to hear from you. I started maternity leave at 30 wks and I knew it was time - don't know how you're managing with night shift xxx

LauraT - hi there - how long you got to go?

xxx

LauraT · 19/05/2008 11:07

5 weeks to go, still working for another 2 weeks... although seem to be finding a lot of time to read MN rather than actually doing anything prodctive!

how about you?

monkeytennis · 19/05/2008 13:02

Hello all. Thats it all sorted at work, no more nights for me! Sleeping during the day is pants.
Minipinkscottish, it must be getting close now for you. When you due?

Laura T - Hi there, is this your first baby? your doing well on the work front!

dizzydixies · 19/05/2008 21:08

monkeytennis where on earth do you work?!? I work shifts too but from the minute I tell them am pregnant they cannot make me work shifts that I don't want to, I could tell them am working 9-5 if I wanted and they would have to lump it - check your rights there no need for nights at all, esp at 30wks

dizzydixies · 19/05/2008 21:09

oh lord, ignore me I didn't read the last page before I came on all argey bargey - sorry

minipinkscottish · 20/05/2008 08:45

Morning all!

LauraT I sill have 8 weeks to go but I am huge and everyone is commenting on how low baby is lying. Would love to be early but no more than 2 weeks as I wouldn't be able to have my home birth. xxx

LauraT · 20/05/2008 10:27

yep first baby, not minding the actual work too much, it's more the 30 mile commute to Kilmarnock and back from Glasgow everyday that's getting to me!

why do people think it's OK to tell you that you're huge when pregnant? they wouldn't do it at any other time!

dizzydixies · 20/05/2008 16:02

ladies, I feel exactly the same way, was back at work after being on leave for a few weeks and was about to punch the next person who commented

its my third ffs and the last one was over 11lbs ggrrrrrrrrr

anyway, hope you're all enjoying the sunshine lol

twinklingfairy · 20/05/2008 16:19

Hi all, have found a list and added myself to it if that is ok.
I am expecting my 2nd in Nov after 8 months of trying and D&C that should have wiped this one out but amazingly didn't! Long story, short; They think I had a twin which they initially thought was molar, hence speedy D&C. One week later HGC levels are rising, and oh look there is a baby in there. Now we think you have a horn shaped uterus which is why we missed that, aren't you/we lucky?

Looks like I am the most Northern then not that that is surprising!

Welcome twinkling fairy - glad you are joining us! Your LO sounds like a real fighter

LauraT · 20/05/2008 18:50

minipink have just been on the baby name board and can't believe how rude people have been about your name choices. I was on your behalf. I think Kennedy is a perfectly good name and if you like it go for it! why can't people be constructive if they are going to criticise????

minipinkscottish · 20/05/2008 20:58

Thanks LauraT - that is really nice of you! TBH - I am not sure about the name but I am shocked at some of the comments made xxx thanks again xx

dizzydixies · 20/05/2008 21:02

minipink have had to come off it before I start a barney

minipinkscottish · 20/05/2008 21:05

Thanks dizzy - really just wanted some constructive advice and a few suggestions. I can't believe some people!! Never mind I'll stick ti our threads now!!

dizzydixies · 20/05/2008 21:09

I never post my possibles in here, I use a different board solely for babyname opinions as I find its a bit of a free for all in here

whats wrong with just saying 'its not to my taste' or providing alternatives or suggesting a reason why is shouldn't be used i.e a name of a mass murderer that you hadn't realised

I have to be honest, I wouldn't use it but we have a very first name surname so would always get the wrong way round. my family suggested using Taylor for dd2 but I said no for that reason iyswim?

I think it goes very well with your other dc's names and I am not adverse to using what I consider to be unisex names, she will make it her own regardless, I know a very feminine Georgie and charlie shortened from Georgina and charlotte

twinklingfairy · 21/05/2008 17:56

My Brother and I are both expecting this year, his GF is due in September, we have a clash on one name so far. eek.
But I am figuring, you just don't know what suits them until they are born so my LO will either be a boy or just clearly not an Olivia, same for him.
Though, he has first dibs whatever happens, me being due in November. Darn his timing!

dizzydixies · 21/05/2008 21:47

twinkling thats lovely that they'll have cousins so close in age - are you near to your brother?

twinklingfairy · 21/05/2008 22:43

No, he is in Nottingham

minipinkscottish · 22/05/2008 10:10

Hi ther twinklingfairy - glad you can join us!!

Well dizzy - I told you I was huge well it is confirmed. I have to go fro growth scan tomorrow as measuring 38 wks at 31

dizzydixies · 22/05/2008 15:49

minipink don't panic am measuring big too - no great surprise there though - and the sonographer told me that the growth scans can't really tell with any degree of accuracy what size baby is going to be

you're a dab hand at this so don't let them worry you

my growth scan is at 35wks and has been penned in since I was 20wks

twinklingfairy · 22/05/2008 22:27

See, I thought that, about the scans not being terribly accurate for size.
They tell me they will be watching me closely cos I had a struggle with my DD (8llb 2oz) and ended up with a shoulder dystocia. They now tell me that either I have to have a C Section or be induced early, cos my body can't cope with big babies!
Tosh!
For one, how can they tell 'with accuracy' how big my baby will be?
For another shoulder disocia has nowt to do with the size of the child anyway!
Grr! I am keeping quiet, cept for the odd rant, sorry about that, until closer to my dates when I am gonna shock them all by coming out fighting!

But I Knew that about the scanning not being accurate, now your sonographer has told you, Dizzy?

dizzydixies · 22/05/2008 22:32

fairy I was in last wed and was told am measuring above average already (no surprise there as dd1 was 10lb4 and dd2 11lb1)

she mentioned the fact I am back in 4wks for another growth scan which in her opinion is a waste of time as they cannot tell with any degree of accuracy how big the baby is

always reassuring to know that even the professionals can't agree on some things

twinklingfairy · 22/05/2008 23:04

I rolls my eyes.
I will just let them get on with whatever they want to do, it means I get more sneaky peeks at LO and then, as I said, fight when I feel it is worth fighting.
Only 13 weeks now, so plenty of time to plan my strategy.
I did speak to a MW about it and she was one from the hospital (on a rare 'day out', she said) It was disheartening that she quoted the doctors, but I will go for the consultant himself when I see him next.
I can see why they are all saying it, but I don't think a c section or inducing a baby early are safe options at all

minipinkscottish · 23/05/2008 16:31

Hi
Well had growth scan this morning and the sonographer and mw thought the baby was " a big yin" - the sent for doct and he want another scan in 2 weeks. I'm not so worried though as baby is healthy, the right way up and there is the right amount of fluid - so giving birth to a big baby - well - I'll manage

Any day for Cairnie will do me

Klaw · 24/05/2008 16:30

Dizzy, If I was you I'd cancel growth scan. What's it going to achieve? It will only serve to undermine your confidence, cannot possibly be accurate and mean a trip in to get it done when you could be happily relaxing at home.

Just my tuppence, fwiw.
