OOOOH and what about names?? Anyone else as clueless as we are?

jambot · 15/02/2005 06:46

We have had another spell of really hot weather in Cape Town. My feet and lower legs have swollen up like balloons! It looks terrible - almost feels like the skin is going to split open. Apparently it isn't the bad type of swelling that you have to really worry about, but still.
Finished our ante-natal classes last night. After initially having to force DH to attend them with me, he really got into the swing of things and I couldn't shut him up in the classes! Asking a million questions of our poor teacher. He now thinks he's a childbirth expert! Quite sweet really.

Cristina7 · 15/02/2005 09:44

I have a hospital appointment later on today.

Jambot - I had swollen legs and hands with my first, couldn't wear any rings from about 6-7 months onwards and had to go up a shoe size (never went back down either...) I'm OK this time, still wearing wedding ring and one other, no swelling. My DH never attended any childbirth classes and we'd even agreed he won't be in the delivery room. But when it came to it he didn't have the heart to go out and sat right through.

Popsycal - how was your hospital appt?

As for names, first name will be Sylvia and middle name probably Eloise (but maybe Madeline or Ana-Maria or maybe another one if we get a last-minute inspiration). We had decided very early on with our first only to change it the weekend before he was born. So you never know.

Hi all,

I'm due in 5wks and 1 day!!! And counting ! Have posted on this site only a couple of times - bit shy really, but could do with a bit of like minded company now I'm in the final stages.

I have 2 little girls so this is my 3rd baby, don't know what it is, am very excited though!!

All the best to all and your bumps xx

Pidge · 15/02/2005 12:11

Welcome 3Mummy!

And good luck everyone else as we head into the final furlongs!

I am on my last day at work, baby due 2 weeks tomorrow. I'm pretty excited at the thought of finishing work - and hopefully won't have to do another day in the office until 2006. Just the minor issue of a baby and toddler to take care of, otherwise it would be a life of leisure!

sweeney · 15/02/2005 12:24

are we really nearing the end??????????
i still can't beleive that i'm going to have a baby.

Leogaela · 15/02/2005 12:25

Hi all & especially to 3mummy! I felt shy when I first started logging onto MN, I guess most people do!

Jambot, the heat sounds bad! In contrast - I had to scrape around 20cm of fresh snow off my car this morning. I was out there in a thin shirt and no gloves and still feeling warm, I can't imagine what you must be suffering.

Great news Misdee!!!! Waiting excitedly for your updates!!!!

Popsycal, we have about 4 names books and I keep looking on the internet as well, we are quite fixed on a girls name but still boys names there isn't anything that I really like. We have a list of a few and hope (if its a boy) that we get inspiration once its born. dh likes Maximillian, but I don't think so as it has been the most popular name in Germany for a couple of years and the child will always be Max, who is ever going to call it Maximillian! What about you Pidge? Are you still struggling as well?

Waiting to hear how the appointments went Popsycal & Cristina!

Pidge LOL about your dd! I've forgotten how old you said she is, but I remember my niece had an boob obsession for a while (I can't remember how old she was either), but I remember she kept going up to people and touching their boobs, and trying to pull their tops down to look at them! Kids are strange!!!

As for me, my energy levels have really hit rock bottom. I crawled into work for a couple of hour yesterday and was too tired to stay, I have just got in today and feel totally exhausted.

Had strange pains around my pelvis yesterday and decided to start packing a hospital bag just in case.... I'm also suspicious that I may be losing water - either that or my bladder isn't quite working properly anymore! I am only suspicious as I expect to have a slow trickle or it to be obvious, but it comes in bits... anyone got any ideas? I am going to the doctor on Friday so I'll ask him then.

Still hoping and feeling that maybe the baby has turned into a better position but I 'm not too sure! It feels as if it has dropped a little bit more.

Leogaela · 15/02/2005 12:26

OMG! Sorry, that was a long one again!!!¨

Anyone else have the feeling that this thread is getting too long and we should start a part 3?

Leogaela · 15/02/2005 12:28

Misdee - cannot believe you will be meeting your new dd in a week. How exciting is that?

Leogaela - I think you've just nominated yourself to start a Part 3!!!

Yup we are still completely stuck on boys names, ok for a girl. Max was on our list too, but we got put off because it's become very popular in the UK too. I want something unusual, but not too crazy! Shame, I really like Max or the full versions ... hmmmm ... must get those name books out again.

Dd is 2.5 and hilariously obsessed with babies and breastfeeding. I fed her till she was 2, and I have a feeling she may be able to remember it at some level, as she keeps banging on about how she used to have 'booby' and how the baby is going to have 'booby' and is going to go 'waaah waaah'. So at least she's prepared to some extent for what is to come!

Sweeney - if it's any comfort I can't believe I'm having a baby either. And I was the same last time round. Pregnancy just seems totally unrelated to what follows for me. I thought it might be easier to imagine having a baby second time round, but I still just feel like I'm going to be pregnant for ever.

Am generally feeling very good - but finding I'm terribly stiff and sore around my hips and groin, with the result that I waddle like a prize duck! Hoping to do some swimming on maternity leave to loosen up those limbs!

oceanmama · 15/02/2005 13:10

Hi and welcome 3mummy

Popsycal - we've got no idea about names either. Typically, we'd picked out a boy's name with no trouble, but were stuck on a girl's...now there's only a week to go and we're still no closer to agreeing...

Hope appointments have gone well today - I've got one tomorrow, where I'll be meeting the team (anaesthetist, midwife etc) doing my Caesarean. Am starting to feel a bit nervous now...

Leogaela · 15/02/2005 13:12

My pc is having some problems finding the bottom of this thread so....

...so 'Due March 2005 Part 3' is coming up!
