I'm 24 and this is my first, i'm due on the 3rd of March but have a feeling it will be earlier! Have also got a very strong feeling that this is a boy although we didn't find out at the scan. Apart from horrid back spasms and feeling heavy i'm ok.

I'm 33 and its my 1st baby!

Misdee, what are the chances of your dh being able to be at the birth with you? Do you have a substitute to go with you? Isn't it also adding extra stress to him going back and forward to hospital?

Jambot, I was in cape town (Constancia) Christmas and new year before last. A tip to cool down - I remember there being a very icy chill on the atlantic sea side which you could feel even when standing near the water! My 2 year old nephew wouldn't get closer that 50m to the water edge (clever boy!).
I don't envy you in the heat at all, its -5 in Zurich at the moment but I still seem to be getting overheated!

I don't think any of the partners are too keen on the whole birth part of it, mine is worried that he is squeamish and will pass out, but his curiosity will get the better of him - he can't wait to find out how a baby can squeeze out of such a small hole (!!!!!) and after telling hime about the thread Shalaa started about pooing while giving birth (I had no idea about that before) he thinks it will be hilarious to see my poo floating around in the water (if I end up having a water birth)!!!!

misdee · 28/01/2005 09:13

its very stressful for dh as well. he keeps going on about how he has to be well for the birth, but i am not putting him under any pressure to be there. His mum thinks he definatly should, but if he isnt well then he isnt well, i cant hold off the baby coming . i have my 2 sisters on stand by for birthing partners as mym parents are going on holiday 24th february to portugal, so may miss the big event. I have babysitters rounded up and ready as well.

As i may be induced it has given me a kick up the bum to get orgnaised. with 2 other kids to think about i need to be lol.

Will be a shame for you both if dh can't be there! I hope for you all that he is well enough. Sounds as if you are already very organised, my worry would be having to rely on other people although sisters shouldn't let you down.

Girly · 28/01/2005 09:38

I hope he recovers really soon misdee and makes it home in time for the birth. It must be so stressful for you both, so sending big hugs your way and will keep my fingers crossed that he improves soon!

bonym · 28/01/2005 17:57

Sweeney - not a surprise - it's a girl apparently (actually it will be a surprise - if it's a boy!!). 38 and my 2nd.

bonym · 28/01/2005 18:00

Oops, sorry - welcome Jambot and fingers crossed for you misdee (tired today and not quite with it - just fell asleep on dd's bed and was woken by my mum phoning - feel all woozy now...

jambot · 29/01/2005 08:59

At last a little cooler. Even had some rain, which is great as we are having a drought in Cape Town at the moment. Am becoming rather panicky that this baby is going to come early and we won't be organised. We are still busy with major renovations on our house and the baby's room is far from finished!!
Now also becoming more nervous about what happens after the birth than the birth itself. Feeding, sleeping etc. Keep re-reading all my books but I think I'm making things worse as they all tell you something slightly different. Feeling guilty reading the Gina Ford book as most people seem to regard her as the devil incarnate of baby routine! Although for me quite a lot of what she has to say makes sense?!

latwinkle1 · 29/01/2005 13:20

Hi there, haven't had a chance to catch up for a while as have had very bad cold with hacking cough, pls God one thing at a time will do!!! still it's kept the breakdancer i'm carrying quieter for a couple of days. Also my father in law staying to help out with build! trying to keep the positive perspective on this ie. Bebe room may finally be built - going for red and silver as Bebe sex is a surprise. Although here in France it is more common to know the sex and they will tell you unless you ask them not to, evrytime i have a scan i get tempted. All appears to be well, 41cms head to toe, so quite large i think! still all up front, yes, i can take out an isle in the Supermarket v. easily!! it's great to here how you are all getting on. The reflexology sounds great, anything that stops the stressing i think has to be a plus. I can't wait to get back to a good sweaty aerobics class and a large vodka! have fun X

jambot · 29/01/2005 21:03

Has anyone found that they are suddenly feeling ravenous a lot of the time? I keep on waking up at 5:30am absolutely starving and have to make myself a bowl of cereal then and there before going back to bed. My stomach is actually rumbling! It's now 11:00pm and I've just gone and got myself something to eat, despite having a fair sized dinner! Wondering if baby if having a major growth phase just now

Hmm - there seem to be a disproportionate number of girls!! Statistically speaking I suppose roughly half should be boys which means that all those who are expecting a surprise are probably having boys!! Or else some of us who are expecting girls are going to be surprised as we'll actually get boys! What do you reckon?
Jambot - yes, I also feel ravenous all the time - unfortunately this seems to have been translating into eating lots of chocolate & cakes- I know, I know, it should be fruit but I have no willpower.
I've also been incredibly tired the last couple of days and slept sooo badly last night - achy everything and turning over was a major problem each time, plus I developed a pain in the right had side of my head during the night which has been coming and going all day - not really a headache and not severe but more annoying really. I just keep telling myself only a few more weeks to go, and really my ails are very minor compared to others here so I will try not to moan!

jambot · 30/01/2005 19:37

Spent the whole day feeling really horrible. Heartburn, indigestion and the feeling that my baby is ready to burst right out of my stomach! Can't seem to get enough oxygen and feel I have to take huge breaths just to breathe. Thing is I'll probably feel perfect in the morning.
Feel ready for this baby to pop now, not in six weeks. Can't believe she'll have any room left by then. Doctor said she will be 4kg or over. Think that's about 9 pounds?? I have also been eating the wrong things lately. My salad and fruit regime seems to have gone out the window.

Cristina7 · 31/01/2005 07:30

Hi, I've just registered with this site so I have some cathing up to do with reading. I'm expecting a girl on 16 March. I also have a son, aged 5, and had a stillborn baby son (at 35 weeks) in Oct '03. Cristina

kolakube · 31/01/2005 08:38

Expecting a girl on March 15th. Also have been a black hole for food lately. Saw the side of my bump undulate like a wave last night as baby squirmed. Is it true you should avoid squatting and lolling on the sofa from now on?

Leogaela · 31/01/2005 09:46

I've updated the list again as Sweeney doesn't seem to be around!

Eeek, I haven't caught up with this thread for ages. I'm expecting a boy (the first for the list!) on March 19. It can't come soon enough - I've nearly finished my industrial sized bottle of Gaviscon, and have hideous varicose veins where you really don't want them!

Leogaela · 31/01/2005 09:56

This list gets more and more strange! This makes me feel more and more sure that I am having a boy! DH's niece will very disappointed, she has 8 cousins and 7 are already boys! The other girl is about 22 years older than her.
...got to start looking for boys names again!!!!

I go in phases of feeling really breathless and as if I am going to burst then it gets better again, I think the baby has growth spurts and everything else inside me takes time to adjust. I am getting more and more tired though, not sure if that is also because of not sleeping well or just pregnancy tiredness. And I am also pigging out on cakes, chocolate, sweets.... that's on top of everything else. Also I can't stop eating oranges so that balances it out a bit I hope!

I am getting incredibly lazy! i spent most of the day on the sofa reading yesterday, it was beautiful weather and i didn't set foot outside. SO I hope lounging on the sofa is OK! What would be wrong with squatting?

Feel sick and horrible for a while after eating breakfast in the mornings as well.

Anyone else finding it quite painful sometimes when the baby moves a lot (that's doesn't count the rib kicking).

....ah well, that's Monday!

Leogaela - feeling like you that we'd better put a bit more effort into boys names!

Welcome to the new folk.

Cristina7 - that is so sad about your second son - it must make this stage of pregnancy very fraught for you. Are you getting scanned regularly for reassurance?

We are still in a state of complete disorgnisation - haven't got any baby stuff out of the loft yet. Still need to move dd out of the cot (her bed arrives this Friday), and only a month to go! This babe better not be early.

We spent the weekend at some friends' wedding in the Lake District, which was great. Lots of driving (at least 7 hours each way), but a blissfullly comfy hotel once we were there. I even managed a glass of champers. Resisted joining in the Ceilidh though!

Now back at my desk and counting down - 2.5 more weeks to go in the office!!

Never heard of squatting being prohibited at this stage. Or lying on the sofa - well provided you are on your side encouraging that baby into a good position for exit!

sweeney · 31/01/2005 10:37

i am around leogaela you keep beating me to it.....in fact i'm very round!

sweeney · 31/01/2005 10:47

kolakube, i think the lying back on the sofa is discouraged coz of getting baby into best postion but squatting is good if head down and is encouraged. if baby is breech then squatting is not so good to get it to turn. i think!
