had a bit of a crash in the car on mon night. someone went into the back of me. called the police and ambulance for safety. everything fine. bit of a jolt and shock though. police were very nice and drove me home. and my beautiful man was so comforting. feel very vulnerable. it really isn't just about looking after yourself anymore is it?
just bought moses basket and stand online. we had decided we didn't need one but just couldn't resist. i think they look so lovely and cosy and old fashioned. good deal as i found the product test results on babyworld and this one was top but is not being sold anymore. but when i rang up they still had 2 instock with £30 off! get it next week.
got someone coming round for 2nd viewing on my flat tomorrow so maybe they'll make an offer. i hope so....
dp doing long commutes now to wiltshire, about 4 1/2 + a day. bless him.
better go and do some housework so place looks spic and span.

Wow, this thread is busy all of sudden! I don't know what I've been doing the last few days, but this is the first chance I've had to catch up. Welcome to the new people!

I've just been to pick up the fabric I'd ordered to make curtains for the nursery and was a bit shocked when they told me the price of it (they didn't know at the time of ordering) - £9.99 a sq metre - does that seem like a lot, or am I just out of touch? Anyway, I'm feeling a bit narked because I think they've ripped me off - I also bought a matching lampshade (also specially ordered) which was £12.99, and then on the way home I popped into a another shop which sells this range and they were selling the lampshades for £7 - I don't know if I should go back to the first shop and question them. Oh well - they'll just have to last for a good few years!
Feeling achier than usual the last few nights - back and hips mainly - it's terrible to wake up feeling like an old woman!!
I can't believe I'm the last one due to give birth on this thread - mind you, my mum reckons it's going to be early (not sure what she bases that on... ) so I guess there is a chance I might beat one or two of you (especially if you're late! ).
Oh well, better go and do some housework I suppose - I've not done any yet today and it's only an hour and a half until I pick dd up from school - where do the days go?!!!

bonym · 02/02/2005 14:00

Whoops!

Pidge · 02/02/2005 14:11

Leogaela - last time round I had 12 people make predictions about the gender of the baby - from our grocer, to the man we buy our fish from, to colleagues at work and EVERY SINGLE ONE of them said I was having a boy. Yup and I had a girl! Haven't had any such predictions this time round. Though I think it's going to be a boy, if only because we're so stuck on boys names!!

Shalaa .. hope the tests are reassuring. I know what you mean about wanting your body back. And I'm lucky to be feeling pretty good - but still, would be nice to be more mobile and to have enough room to eat properly. I remember that being the biggest joy last time - suddenly having lots of room for food, plus it tasted normal again! Though the biggest shock was how long it took my body to recover from the labour.

Sweeney - fingers crossed on the flat selling front.

BoneyM - I reckon the baby's worth it! My poor dd is still putting up with the curtains we inherited from the previous house-owners, so at least your baby will have something nice over the window.

I'm getting really strong Braxton Hicks contractions at the moment - nice to think my body's doing something to prepare itself for the task ahead!

Leogaela · 02/02/2005 15:33

Sweeney, that's really terrible. But very happy to hear you and the baby are OK. The person that hit you must have had such a shock to see that they had hit into the back of a car to find the driver was heavily pregnant!

Shalaa, hope you are feeling less grumpy now, my grumpy days come and go, if its any consolation for you at least you should be one of the first of us to get your body back!

I feel better today having stayed at home doing nothing. Except i am really really unhappy to see that the dreaded stretch marks finally seem to be appearing just above my belly button. Just my luck that they couldn't come somewhere low down and discreet. I guess with 5-ish weeks to go they could still get really bad!

shalaa · 02/02/2005 16:01

Thanks guys! Nice to have somewhere you can express these feelings and people genuinely understand how you feel! It took 3 attempts to get a sample as I could see where I was peeing! Just want to sleep, looking forward to meeting our little beep though! Have a labour suite tour tonight which i'm looking foward to

shalaa · 02/02/2005 16:01

Meant to say couldn't see where I was peeing! Brain has turned to mush

Girly · 04/02/2005 12:06

Had a false alarm yesterday, went to be assessed as am 36+3 days and am 1cm dilated and 2/5 engaged which is quite common for a multip apparently. You can start the 'warm up' a few weeks before so am not getting excited yet and am not going in again till my waters burst

Cristina7 · 04/02/2005 13:08

Girly - did you have contractions, or what made you go for the assessment? If they were contractions, were they v painful or frequent, different to Braxton-Hicks? Glad to hear the baby gets to stay a little bit longer inside.

munchkinsusie · 04/02/2005 15:52

girly, how exciting!! i can't wait till i start to get all the signs that things are beginning. i'm not even certain whether i've been having braxton hicks or not and i'm 34+5.
i've still got this terrible pain in my hands and arms at night and in the morning. have been refered to a physio so we'll see what they say.

misdee · 05/02/2005 20:50

any news on girly yet?

HI, am still here, no further rumbles so just playing the waiting game like the rest of you.

Thanks for asking

Leogaela · 06/02/2005 08:45

Good morning!
Suffering from insomia - well getting up this early on sunday is insomnia for me! Yesterday I was up at 4 though.
Busy day yesterday, we finally went shopping! Have ordered the matress, pushchair and have not got all the bits and pieces (I think) we need. It took us more than 3 hours to decide on the pushchair (!!!!!)
Just been reading your thread Misdee & Cristina7 on the baby not moving so much. I guess so long as the babies keep moving then everything is OK. Maybe the babies are just slowing down to rest before the big event!
Yesterday I had a bit of a panic as well. Went to bed for half an hour in the evening and realised that I couldn't remember the last time I felt the baby move. Usually when i lay down i can feel it, it took a long time of rolling from side to side, shaking my belly and poking it before I felt the baby move!

Its getting really exciting hearing people getting contractions. I have had some strange pain which I think could be strong BHs, but the pain only seem to come at night so I am wondering if its the way I am sleeping.

Cristina7, this must be a very emotional time for you now. I hope you are not too anxious over the next few weeks and baby arrives safely.

misdee · 06/02/2005 09:13

also an insomnia sufferer here, doesnt help that the girls are waking up between 5 and 6 am atm. grrrrr. they are both pretty upset at dh being in hospital so i can let them off, but they are climbing into my bed at night and dd1 has very cold feet!!!

bubs is moving still, but they are different movemnts. am having strong braxton hicks still, and have got check up tomorrow. if dh is still in when i give birth, then i am gonna try and arrange to see if i can stay with my parents or something afterwards for a few days.

Had my 'stork party' yesterday. Was thoroughly spoiled by all my friends. Makes it all start feeling real - seeing all the baby things. Went for my check up this week. Baby is now nearly 3kg and still on course for 4 kgs at the end. She is kicking me hectically and her bum keeps on sticking out under my right boob! Had a lot of soreness in bed the other night for some hours. Got so bad at one point I thought it might be labour, but it had gone by the morning. My boobs are leaking a lot now. They have done this from about 6 months, but it's becoming a lot more. It's 36 degrees in Cape Town today! Going to my parents for lunch and a nice swim. Can't wait for our own pool to be finished. An absolute must in SA.

Cristina7 · 06/02/2005 11:41

Leogaela - thanks for your wishes. I think this weekend will have been the worst as this was the exact stage when we lost Louis (26.10.2003). His little sister though is kicking away nicely and I feel reassured after yesterday's hospital visit as well.

Jambot - 36 degrees, that's hot! I remember with my first we were in Romania in August, during one of the hottest summers (temps went up to 42 degrees in the sun). I was much younger, though, well 6 years younger (39 tomorrow), and could handle it all so well. I've never heard of any "stork party" over here (in the UK), only from what I read in magazines about celebs having them and that it's an US import. I wonder if it will take off.

jambot · 06/02/2005 15:52

I think every mum to be should have a stork party. In South Africa we all do it for friends who are having a baby, especially if it's the first. It's basically a tea party that your mum or girlfriend organises. It's normally just for the girls, but some people do have a party or barbeque with their partners and all his friends invited too.
Everyone brings a practical gift for the baby and gives lots of advice on what and what not to do.
It's also a chance for the mum to be to be spoiled a bit and the centre of attention for the last time in a long while.
Why not start a new trend in the UK?

munchkinsusie · 07/02/2005 09:14

jambot - i'm not sure that a 'stork party' or ' baby shower' as they call it in america, will catch on here. two main reasons - one, it's generally considered unlucky to give baby presents before it's born, and two, it seems a bit presumptous to organise a party so people can give you presents - then again, i guess you organise birthday parties, so maybe not.
it's my last week at work this week. i have to start to hand over all my jobs and clear out my desk and shelves. it's very strange!

jambot · 07/02/2005 09:19

You never organise your own party - it's normally a surprise. If you didn't feel comfortable buying a gift for the baby, you could give the mum a voucher for her to pamper herself with. Each to their own I suppose, but most mums I know really appreciate it, esp if you are a new mum.

Pidge · 07/02/2005 09:22

I never seem to manage to check in over the weekend - so catching up now. Only 6 more days in work. Hurrah. And have firmly locked my bike up in our shed - so train only for me for this last little bit!

I didn't really notice the Braxton Hicks very much in my first pregnancy - was never sure if I was having them or not. But this time round they're a lot stronger and more frequent.

Finally got our box of baby stuff out of the loft and have a total of about 5 rather shabby baby-gros, plus a host of little short sleeved things (dd was a July baby). So might have to indulge in just a little bit of baby shopping for some warmer March baby style things!

Also visited a friend with a 10 day old - what a cutie. I'd forgotten how tiny new babies are. And dd was thrilled with her - stroking her hair and holding her hand, so that bodes well for our new arrival.

Leogaela · 07/02/2005 10:11

I think a stork party or baby shower sounds like a really great idea! Stuff the superstition! People here don't do them either though.

Pidge, maybe most of us that usually manage to check in over the weekend are having our first babies!

Jambot, the sunshine and swimming pool sound like a dream, but in reality being so late in pregnancy in such heat must be really horrible. We still have snow here in zurich and I am getting so overheated at night that I have to sleep with the window wide open - dh just suffers the cold in silence!

I am just about prepared to finish work, have pretty much sorted everything out, have taken a step back from my responsibilities but still supporting my project and doing what I feel like doing! That's just in case I decided I don't want to come in any more!

I have had really strange twingy pains down below, it almost feels like the baby is poking its finger through my cervix. Does that sound a bit strange?

Girly & Misdee - any developments????
