Hi everyone! Name change from lulubump - decided I'd better get used to a nickname without 'bump'. Feeling quite chirpy today - thanks for all the positive vibes re:DHs work trip. We've agreed that if I even have a twinge, he is to come straight home immediately.

Happy birthday Fluffy! Hope you get thoroughly spoiled by DH!
Spackat, shame about the jeans!
Susie - I like Beatriz, think its lovely. We have finally decided on a girl's name, but having NO luck with a boy's name. DH keeps proposing macho pit-bull type names (e.g. Caesar ), and thinks my suggestions are too flowery.
Naetha - good luck with the painting / decluttering. My hungry times have gone all funny as well - I woke up at about 3am last night and was starving. Thought of coming downstairs for some cereal, but the nice warm bed was calling to me!
Beller - yay for babybel's position!

I am going to be naughty and go back to bed for the rest of the afternoon. If I can't do it now, I'll never get to! ....oooh and better book my pregnancy massage - found a lovely lady who's going to come to my house with all her kit for massage.

merrykt · 19/12/2007 14:49

makingnosense - my question too, i'm 35 weeks now and was going to start, then i read it shd be 36 weeks? so they are sitting on shelf...and how many to take a day? and when in the day? on a full stomach, etc?

fragolina - hello new name caesar? ???
i'm thinking of bed too in a mo, dh is home early and collecting ds from nursery so i don't have the ticking clock stopping me relaxing. the massage sounds lurvely, mmmm.

gingeme at mw comments! hope your dh's op works! 5 boys, well, we have the discussion all the time, if this is a boy, well i said i wanted more anyway, but what if no 3 is a boy, and no 4...where will we stop?!?! if this is a girl it'll be good cos then we can just relax and have however many and not feel that pressure. tho of course everyone will say, oh one of each, you'll stop now! hmph!
when your older ones are with you and you have all 5, life could get interesting!
trying to sort ds's toys here too. found one thing he hadn't played with at all, put on the stairs to put in baby room in case this one likes it and...you guessed it...ds now loves it ah well, will have to find something else to hide instead.

awen & beller - good news from mws, don't want to hear i'm engaged tomorrow, but look forward to hearing there is progress.

naetha - hope the nursery is coming along nicely. 8 months? don't worry, we've been here over 3 years and stuff still doesn't have homes, sometimes i'd love a skip and just chuck stuff out! then i try and go through it for the charity shop and nothing much goes!

spackcat - bad luck re jeans

right, bed is calling

madChristmasmouse · 19/12/2007 15:53

Hi all

Fluffy - happy birthday!!!

Sorry for all those with threatening and present colds hope they clear up soon.

Just did the ironing with the board at about knee height and me sitting at the edge of the bed. DH confirms that indeed it looks silly, but boy does it beat the back ache it normally gives me.

Fragolina?? Explain

Just had post from Tomy, we bought their Zanzibar baby carrier four and a half years ago for our dear friends' first. They have just finished using it for their second and have now given it to us, but the instructions were missing and I was a bit paranoid (imagining babies dropping out etc). I emailed Tomy and they kindly sent me a copy. Just a good thing we are still fluent in Dutch as the copying gets worse towards the end and the English is not very readable .

When I walked to the shops this morning I got quite a lot of pressure on the front of my pelvis. Does this mean something is happening? I am 34 weeks now.

Hope you all have a good day, not too tired.

Naetha · 19/12/2007 16:51

I've been having pressure on the front of my pelvis for weeks now! (Although I am 38 and a half weeks at this point!) It feels like my LO has got a wing of my pelvis in each hand and is pushing them apart! Not painful, but a weird sensation all the same! Also when I get my tightenings, that's one of the key sensations I get, that my pelvis is being forced apart!

As for ironing, well, I'm lucky to get washing done in this house! We made a conscious decision a couple of years ago that ironing really wasn't our thing, so we have bought DH all non-iron / non-crease work clothes over the last few years and to be fair they're not bad. As long as you hang them out straight after the wash and give them a good shake, you can't really tell they haven't been ironed. Word to the wise - M&S non-iron is a hell of a lot better than non-iron from anywhere else!

Any more responses on the contraception front btw? Or is everyone planning more LOs very soon?

madChristmasmouse · 19/12/2007 16:54

Naetha, we are planning to use good old rubbers in combination with BF in the early months. As DH is 40 and I am 33 we do not want to wait too long before the next (she says before having the first )and would prefer not to disturb the natural cycle (although I never got a regular cycle between pill and conception, but I was ont he pill for 10 years). As I will have another 10 months mat leave after the birth there is a chance that I will go back to work preggers. Oh dear .

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 19/12/2007 17:05

Catholic husband - so we're going for the rhythm method. It has worked for us before, but I don't really like it because it's all a bit calculated. We're planning another baby pretty soon and I wouldn't be surprised if we get one!

Any more thoughts on Beatriz?

toomanyshoes · 19/12/2007 17:07

Hello girls,
sorry to hear so many of you are full of a cold. Nothing worse when you can't take all the drugs!
Happy birthday Fluffy! Hope you are having a lovely day and DH has managed to keep his eyes open!
Glad everybodies midwife appointments have been ok, I won't see mine again til after i have had the baby. Am going in tomorrow night for my induction so send me lots of speedy labour vibes! been to Mothercare today and bought a tens as worried I will be in early labour all tomorrow night without DH there to rub my back and no access to gas and air (not allowed either until on Delivery Suite)
Last time I got out of bed in the morning, waters broke on bedroom floor and by the time I had a shower and got to the hospital i was already 4cms so never had much in the way of niggly early labour pain, think I slept through it! Just had such a quick and good labour last time and feeling much more nervous about the whole induction thing. Much more scope for things to drag on, go wrong etc. Oh well, will all be worth it when holding my lovely new DS. I bought him a tiny santa suit today, was so cute I couldn't resist and thought it would make v nice pic to send out for birth announcement!
Right, off to re=pack my labour bag for umpteenth time and have a good old worry about the pain of childbirth

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 19/12/2007 17:10

Good luck Toomanyshoes! Hooray!

Naetha · 19/12/2007 19:36

Ooh best of luck TMS - I'll be thinking of you!!

gingemebells · 19/12/2007 19:44

Good luck toomanyshoes What a lovely early Christmas presant for you.
Merrykt dh and I have 6 boys between us 7 including this one He has 2 from his previous marriage. I have 2 from mine and the three well have after this one. Mind you every one I know who have both sexes dc say their boys are so much easier. Like my sister she has two boys, 17 and 21 and a girl 13 and she says shed have her boys all over again.
Happy Birthday fluffy
xx

Fragolina · 19/12/2007 19:49

Good luck toomanyshoes! Hope it goes quick and easy .

Madmouse, you wanted some explanation re:my new name - Fragolina is 'little strawberry' in italian, and kind of rhymes with my real name....and 'Fragolino' is the name of a luuuurvely italian strawberry tasting cava, which is sitting in my fridge and taunting me because I can't have any, but my guests will enjoy over xmas

Naetha - am with you on the weird pelvis movements. Not painful, but definitely feels strange.

Yes, Ceasar / Cesare was really one of DHs suggestions, along with Brutus if you can believe it

I'm not sure about the raspb tablets - think its 36 weeks, and mine say on the container that the dose is two tabs 3x a day between meals.

merrykt · 19/12/2007 19:56

TMS - best of luck for tomorrow !
do you mean you are not allowed dh to be with you until you are in the delivery suite? or both gas AND air? sorry being dense.
from what others have said, inductions seem to be quicker than natural labour so prepare yourself for it not to go on long!

susie - i like beatrice, would that be the english pronounciation? tho i suppose the only beatrice i've heard of is princess beatrice. she's quite pretty tho, i think (i always get the 2 confused ).
what about when you decide you have had enough children? will you stick to rhythm method forever?
we were kind of using it, ie me tracking my cycles and only 'encouraging' dh when i thought it was safe..ahem, here we are with pg no 2! got caught out as cycle didn't stay the same .

madmouse - i know of a few ladies who have gone back pg! guess it will be even more common now with longer mat leave.
i tried ironing sitting down last pg but found it harder work tbh. just cut down on ironing in general

didn't go to bed in the end, had a lovely bath instead
then had a rant at dh and wasted all that relaxing! honestly tho, i manage to bath and bed ds on my own on a regular basis and i leave it to dh and it all goes wrong! i try not to be a nagging wife but: bath too deep, too cold, no bathmat, pjs not ready, ds screaming as he got fingers stuck in shower door, and so on!!!
then takes half an hour to settle him to bed, hmph.
he's making sausage, mash & gravy for dinner to make up for it, yum!

merrykt · 19/12/2007 20:02

gingeme - will you have all 7 together very often?
i'm not desperate to have a girl mind you, i do think ds is easier than lots of the little girls we know.
i'd just like to experience both and i'm not (atm anyway!) set on any particular number of kids, i'm one of 4, fancy 4, i think

fragolina - brutus???????? it just gets better!!!
will have another look at bottle, but think i will wait unil 36 wks just to be sure.

plus there's the massage thing, think i started at 36 weeks last time? it is weird and tricky but i gave it a go & no stitches/tears/cuts so might as well!

oh and cava/bubbly, got to get a bottle in for having after the birth (yes i will be bfing but still). yours sounds yummy

WeAllWantSomeFluffyPudding · 19/12/2007 20:24

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all your lovely birthday wishes ! I'm feeling very lucky and happy and chilled right now (and very silly for grumbling last night ) as DH has just demonstrated his amazingness again He phoned from the airport this morning with instructions to be ready to go out, looking nice, at 10am, with a swimsuit, hairbrush and any emergency makeup I might need. Bless him, he'd booked me in for a couple of lovely spa treatments at a fab place not too far away, along with lunch for both of us at the restaurant...so he chilled out with the papers and dozed in the lounge whilst I was thoroughly pampered. Hurrah!!!!

Just got home now and have put DS to bed...now time to collapse on the sofa

Catch up properly soon....got the GD test tomorrow morning, so will be online after that

Wishing you all a good nights sleep xxxx

Awenamanger · 19/12/2007 21:03

Fluffy - sounds absolutely lovely Bless him

TMS - How exciting for tomorrow. Not long till you are holding LO in your arms.

Still getting pains here.. trying not to get hopes up.

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 19/12/2007 21:32

Awen - Hope this is it for you!!
Fluffy - Happy Birthday huney, hope you had a nice day!!

contraception - I have no idea, the pill makes me gain weight like a lunatic and behave like one as well. I don't know if i want the implant/injection cos of how much it mucks up your cycle. DP hates condoms (it doesn't feel nice apparently) and the idea behind how the coil works goes through me so I think i'll have to spend some time with the docs to find best solution.

I had my MW apt today 38 Weeks Today and I've got the go-ahead for my water birth. The MW was absolutely lovely. She was trying her hardest to put me off to begin with but once she realised it wasn't a "fad" she had a proper conversation with me and there was hardly any "we don't do's" etc. Was lovely. I did get a bit of a hard time about how "I do know that there will be 2 midwives on call for you over xmas and new year so they won't be able to go out or anything don't you?" I thought that was abit mean but apart from that it's all good - Got LOADS of notes in my antinatal book now and apparently someone will be coming to the house next week to go over my birth plan at home! Also they drop off the entonox before (not bring it with them) so had to explain to DP why he could not try before they got here!! lol

I've got exzema (sp?) flaring up again on my legs cos of the hormones so i've had to start slathering myself in sudocrem. Had MW have a quick look at it and she says all is fine so not worried, just annoyed as it's added a new aspect to the non-sleeping routine. Now instead of wake up, pee, get comfy and sleep. I've got wake up, scratch, pee, scratch, get comfy, scratch, try to get comfy again, scratch, cream, scratch, fall asleep....... hip goes numb, wake up again!! lol

S/W DP and explained I don't feel loved and coupley at the moment and he says he feels the same and we'll have to start actively trying more.... SO today we went for dinner out! I had lasagne!!! Was lovely.

RIGHT BABY I'M READY FOR YOU NOW! LET'S GO!!

Thoughts and hugs to all with colds and all wanting baby out.

TMS - Good luck with induction!

gingemebells · 19/12/2007 21:48

You lucky lady fluffy. Sounds divine. Well done dh.
Katy1 I dont think there is much chance of all 7 boys being together unfortunately. Dh's Eldest lives with his fiance. Not very far from us but he is a very hard worker. His youngest lives with his Mum and sd in Cambridge. My first two ds's live in bonnie Scotland with their Dad and are very happy. Well we will have atleast 4 here this Christmas. Thats going to be hectic enough.
Yay with your water birth Salem. I hope it goes realy well for you. I am having another one this time providing the pool isnt in use.
Awen fingers crossed for you that you too will be having a pre Christmas gift
Lots of Braxton Hicks here tonight but they could be going on for ages.
Off to bed soon.
Good night all xxxx

ayrshirelolo · 19/12/2007 22:45

HIya all!
Too much to catch up on properly, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY FLUFFY!! glad dh was such a honey!! hope you get a fab sleep to finish it off and good luck for the test!
Toomanyshoes...... OOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Really excited for you!!!! Good luck, and all our best wishes, we'll be looking forward to hearing how you go!(quickly and relatively painlessly i hope!)
Oh, Susie and Mrs McJ, you both look lovely! and with tiny neat bumps which are all "out front" as they say, perfect pregnancy shape i reckon!
Anyway, had the night from hell last night, dd coughing so much (even after Calpol and cough mixture) that she got really upset and distressed so at about 2am i brought her into bed with me and dh..... which hasn't happened since she was 6 weeks old! However she wouldn't settle with us either, so dh put her back in her own cot at about 3.30am... she finally fell asleep exhausted at about 4am.... i needed a pee at 4.30am .... heartburn at 5am....... Oh well, the joys of parenthood!!!! Thank crunchie i've finished work! She's been a bit better today though, more like herself and is currently sleeping for Scotland. Fingers crossed girls!
Had the most useless midwife appointment ever today, my usual fab one is on holiday (how very DARE she!!!!) so had a stand in, who can't tell me if baby has turned or is still breech.... "Oh, there's a hard bit, could be a head or a bottom, difficult to tell really, isn't it???" is it me or wtf?? Then she said come back a fortnight today, and i pointed out the health centre is closed, as it's Jan 2nd (holiday in Scotland) and got "oh yeah, so it is... well we don't want to leave it another week after that coz that would be too late and we'd want a scan before that if baby might be breech... em, em..... we'll phone you and tell you when to come back!" i'm a bit about that, think i'll phone my usual lady next week when the health centre opens on the 27th!! In the meantime getting lots of optimum positioning by wrapping pressies!!
Anyway, gonna go get some kip while dd asleep... might not last long! hugs to you all, lolo xx

jinglebeller · 20/12/2007 09:58

MOrnign all!

Lucky really pleased you have been given the all clear for the home waterbirth!!! Yayyyy
I have some reflexology today, hoping it might start things, but will only do that if s/he is ready !!

Can only quickly catch up today as off out now, but waves at everyone xxxx

gingemebells · 20/12/2007 12:53

Oh lolo we had a night more or less the same last night with ds4. He woke about 2.30am and was just crying and crying till I gave him some Medised and juice and lots of rubbing of his back, I try not to pick him up unless absolutely neccesary, and he fell back to sleep about 4. Needed a wee at 4.30 then had heartburn then coughed and coughed and tried to breathe through a very blocked nose till about 5.30 then dh's alarm went off at 7.30am. Phew! Feel very very tired today and my back aches from the coughing
Right moan over now.
Wonder if well here a birth announcement from toomanyshoes today so excited for her.
So of my parents at the moment. They are in Cyprus and my Dad has just just text to say it is about 70 out there. I need some heat today to make me feel better.
Well I hope you other ladies are all well. Take care xxx

Awenamanger · 20/12/2007 13:57

Ds off with his dad for the rest of the day so thought i would pop on. Pains havent stopped. Was awake in the wee small hours with them and took some paracetamol. Was getting them in bed whilst lying down and also all day so far. Took ds to park this morning as lovely crisp and frosty day. Pains were still regular.. about every 5-8 mins with the occasional gap of 10-12, altho some arent as painful so dont know if i miss counting them as expecting them all to be as painful as eachother.

So trying not to get hopes up. Also asked dp to have a 'check' down there last night and he reckons my cervix is quite low down.. Not sure if he is feeling the right thing tho.

Amani · 20/12/2007 14:34

Afternoon ladies,

Hope you all are well. Had a lovely lie in this morning and woke up at 10:30am as opposed to my usual 8am. Feel so energetic and got lots of household stuff done.

Fluffy - happy belated birthday.

Lucky - well done on your water birth!

Nothing much else to add - feeling fine, no twinges so have a feeling that having a baby by 22nd won't be the case , and will prob end up having it around my due date of 30th. A friend who was due the second week of Jan had her baby boy this morning - so unfair with the queue jumping!!

Anyway feeling hungry - do you think it's horrible to pinch a choc out of DD selection box..?? Am sure she won't miss the Flake...

Awenamanger · 20/12/2007 16:29

OK pains are getting more intense... DP on way home from work. Ds still out with his dad. Really dont want to trapse up to the hospital. I feel stupid as already had one baby but feel clueless. Felt such a waste of time 3 weeks ago.. I expect it will all be nothing in the end anyway.. but Owwwwwwwww

Fragolina · 20/12/2007 16:44

Awen, fingers crossed for you! Don't feel stupid about being unsure whether this is the 'real' thing or not - they say every baby's different, and so is every labour right? If you feel like you need to get checked out at the hospital, then go - that's what they're there for.

DH is away tonight on his business trip, and I'm feeling quite mopey, mooching around the house on my own.

sideways · 20/12/2007 17:22

Toomanyshoes - good luck

Awen - hope this is it for you too
