Hello!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
madChristmasmouse · 14/12/2007 18:53

Naetha, that is my worst fear about labour: for whatever reason ending up on my back on a bed. Planning to labour downstairs in the living room, so if I get my way it does not happen!

Anyone have any tips on stopping your poor lo's hiccups? Mine has them for five minutes at a time and it is very cute but I do feel a bit sorry for him, although he is clearly working hard to practise breathing. Rubbing does not help, neither does saying booh very loudly .

merrykatyt1 · 14/12/2007 19:42

hi all,

firstly - hi mixedmama missed you out before. hope you get to your parents soon, don't worry about catching up, we're all just a bunch of chatterboxes (ok speaking for myself mostly i admit )

madmouse - dunno about stopping the hiccups, think i remember reading that they don't bother the LOs, just us as our tummies bounce up and down!sounds like a lovely while away with dh dunno about all the walking you and others have been doing, i make to the shops round the corner, gawd i'm lazy !

i agree naetha about the lying on back thing, seems all the american programmes show only hosp births and only lying on back births, surely there are the other types of births out there??
i did end up lying on the old sofa in the kitchen last time as i was so tired (tip: EAT FOOD WHEN LABOUR STARTS!) sorry for shouting! but more in a halfway up sitting position iykwim.

lulu - not being unreasonable at all, 11 mince pies in 3 days? i mean i don't like mince pies but small(ish) cakes like that, i'd easily manage 11 in 3 days!!!
as for not stopping for carrot cake - well carrot cake isn't REAL cake, i mean it has veg in it fgs!!!
and you are pg - doesn't he know he's meant to obey your every whim

naetha - must look up those nursing bras, tho i'm so unsure about sizes when ordering off the net

opinions please: bought some jeans from jjmb a while ago, lovely and comfy but...they fall down so stopped wearing them, obv, and ordered the smaller size. (they still haven't arrived and got a letter today apologising for delay but still don't know when they'll arrive.) so, bought some mens braces today and they keep the trousers up am i making a fashion faux pas?? and should i cancel the smaller jeans?
dh has just laughed at me and so did ds !!!

fruitful · 14/12/2007 19:43

Hi all, thx for all your messages. Am using horrid Patientine so taking ages to type

Theo is doing well, is off ventilator now and mostly breathing unaided. Having 2ml of milk thru a tube every 2hrs . Good thing he doesnt need much - I tried expressing just now and got 5ml. I am starting too walk a bit, it is hard work! I haave a side room so getting some sleep at last. I have a train track of staples all the way up my front .

2mshoes - hope the sweep works

fruitful · 14/12/2007 19:47

oh, official guidelines here - "encourage mums to be upright during labour"

gingemebells · 14/12/2007 19:57

I used to think that Neatha when I watched the American birth programmes. 99% had epidurals weather needed or not and they nearly all were in bed on their backs and wondered why their labour was so slow
This is what peed me off about my home birth that I ended up on my back on the floor when I wanted to be on my knees with my top half facing the sofa iyswim. Or I wanted to have him in my bathroom standing over my sink which was realy comfy. Makes me smile to think I was giving myself a pep talk in the medicine cabinet mirror through each contraction. ' Come on Wendy, you can do this, each contraction is one nearer to the baby, come on Wendy'. He he
Thanks for all the info on the arnicha and remody.

LETSGOChristmaspartying · 14/12/2007 20:02

Hi to all

Aren't you all a lot of chatterboxes - it's lovely

Fruitful - Congratulations on the birth of Theo. Glad to hear you are starting to walk a bit, just take it slowly and keep us all up to date on how you are getting on.

Merrykatyt1 - braces and bump interesting mix . Are the braces under your top or over? I would say go with whatever your comfortable with and that's all that matters. I tried to go out last night in some scummy jogging pants but my DH said 'You're not going out in them?' so I got changed into my jeans. I just feel so massive that I'm surprised I don't go out in my pyjamas!

Hi to everyone else.

Does anyone know where I can get cheap nighties/nightshirts with buttons for hospital? I'm not willing to pay much as I don't really like them. I saw some in Primark today but they were a bit short.

merrykatyt1 · 14/12/2007 20:11

btw, you can just call me kt, long names take too long to type

as for the braces, over my top today as when i put them on the house was freezing and all the metal bits were too cold think under might work better tho, esp for going out so i don't look too weird. the straps have to go to the side of bbs too
plus going for (yet another) wee takes longer as i unclip myself .

fruitful - great to see you on here, glad you have a side room for some peace and quiet. keep going with the expressing, every little bit helps (or is that tesco shopping...!)

gingeme - i had a similar thing with the kitchen worktops, they're shiny and reflect the spotlights and i stared into the light - ok that sounds weird but it helped at the time!!

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 14/12/2007 21:05

Hi KT - this is where MrsMc and me following her bought nighties. They look a bit nursy but they are really comfy. I've taken to wearing mine already.

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 14/12/2007 21:05

They are the dark blue ones. Don't know you're saize but they've got a few and a pale colour too I think.

Awenamanger · 14/12/2007 21:39

Still getting them old tightenings.. No real regularity - about 10 min apart but then they stop. Been going 10 mins last hour but we shall see . Have lots planned this weekend - family day tomorrow after trip to garage and then on Sunday ds has Rugby family funday.. he asked if i was going to play lol. No chance, dp can stand in.

If LO hasnt arrived before edd they hasve booked me into see consultant on 31st for stretch/sweep/rupture of membrance.. basically see how i am down there, if no progress poss section.

ayrshirelolo · 14/12/2007 21:59

Evening all!!!
Hope you're all ok, just a quickie to say glad you appear to be on the mend Fruitful and that baby Theo is doing so well!
Have preggy brain today so am not going to say much more, but hope we all have good weekend... and i think braces are groovy , i've already bought my arnica tablets for hospital bag (but don't know what strength they are ), bought a cool wee snowsuit in Asda just because i wanted to and it is SO soft and i think buying your baby a soft toy is lovely... already got a wee koala bear for LO! and had a big tigger for DD before she appeared .
Got loads of housework done today and christmas tree up, so am now going to bed to try and get some quality zzzzzz... (Ho ho ho.... spot the irony!!!!!) night girls.. wishing us all a peaceful Friday! lolo xx

ayrshirelolo · 14/12/2007 22:00

Oh, and lulu...mince pies are good for you! Something to do with all that fruit... therefore perfectly acceptable to have 5 a day???

Naetha · 15/12/2007 09:51

Morning all, had an interesting night here...

...I think this might be it

Had a few BHs yesterday evening and a touch of backache and general grumpiness. Went to bed, and almost as soon as the light went out, started getting regular tightenings. Not particularly painful (although breathing wasn't easy) but tight nonetheless. They carried on for about an hour every 8-10 minutes. I tried to go to sleep but no avail, so decided if this was going to be it, then I was going to have a clary sage bath and enjoy it! Bath was nice and relaxing, but didn't speed anything up particularly, so decided to sit on my birthing ball for a while. Again, didn't speed anything up, and I was starting to doze (note to all: sitting on a birthing ball requires concentration - do not do this while falling asleep) so went back to bed (3am by this point). Had pretty poor sleep, and still regular tightenings. They seem a bit varied though, I'll get a strong one, that lasts a minute, then two minutes later I'll get a short one that lasts about 20 seconds, then there'll be an 8 minute gap, then another strong one, then a 5 minute gap etc etc.
Don't know what this means particularly, but they're not stopping! No real pain particularly, although a couple have given me quite strong backache, so I'm not rushing to the hospital yet. Will give the MW a call in a couple of hours if nothing changes and see how things go from there.

Meanwhile I have an awful lot of tidying up / sorting out to do, and somehow don't think I'm going to north Wales tomorrow!

gingemebells · 15/12/2007 10:06

Oh Neatha how exciting. Dont get your hopes up though. Sorry to burst your bubble but this happened to me 3 times with ds3 and I actualy went into hospital at one point only to be sent home agaain . But there again everyones different . How early would you be if your bundle of joy arrived today? Hang the tidying that can wait.
Good luck to you. Will pop by later to see if you have joined Fruitful!!

toomanyshoes · 15/12/2007 11:17

oooh Naetha, how exciting! Keep us all posted!
No real action here, lots of braxton hicks and period type back pain that woke me up at 3.30 this morning but no regular contactions or a show yet.
Will pop back on later to see if there's any more news

merrykatyt1 · 15/12/2007 11:36

naetha - oooh exciting! hope this is it and not a false alarm.
looking at the list you are due on the 30th right? so that would make you, err, 15 days early, 37+6?

2mshoes - hope things turn into something for you too.

ds up before 6 again today, realised that he has been getting up at the same time we had to wake him up for hosp on wed, grr. maybe he thinks we want him up then?
how does one explain to a 1.5yr old that is was a one-off!?!?

oh and duh me re braces, was unclipping them every time, asked dh for going to the loo tips thinking he'd be sarky and say get a zip fly and a willy! then he pointed out i can slide the straps over my shoulders, duh

got 5 babes coming round for mini-christmas party later then out tonight for dinner with nct mums and dads. going to try ds sleeping at someone elses house as we haen't got a sitter sorted....not sure he'll get any sleep but hey!

right gas man here best go

Naetha · 15/12/2007 11:40

I'm exactly 38 weeks today, so not too early .

I'm just going to see how it goes today - if it happens, it happens, if not, then it doesn't hurt as something to kick-start DH into putting together the flat-pack furniture, and me into cleaning the house! Still getting strong tightenings every 8-10 minutes, and the distinct feeling that something is "opening up" down there .

Gingeme - after this happened with your DS3 how long did it actually take until he put a show in? Are we talking days or weeks!?

gingemebells · 15/12/2007 12:52

Neatha just a week later. As it happened it was a Saturday too

madChristmasmouse · 15/12/2007 15:41

Hi all

Naetha, rooting for you gal. I am hoping that mine will appear at 38 weeks (keep dreaming ) so I imagine you may feel the same. I am going to leave to computer on so I can check for updates .

Fruitful, 5ml, wow, sounds like you are still making colostrum? Apparently that is powerfood in small quantities and you are doing so well!!

Lolo, with you on just having to buy some soft things for baby. The first thing I bought (and I managed to wait until, err, 14 weeks? ) was a cute little rabbit from Muji, made of recycled yarn, so sweet.

Hope you are all having good weekends with some rest thrown in. I slept ok without paracetamol, which is great. I am really nesting though. I am normally quite tidy but have been a real slob throughout pregnancy, suddenly now I am tidying as I go along and things just have to get done, even cleaning the bathroom .

lilyloo · 15/12/2007 17:06

Hope you all having good weekend.
Any more news naetha ?
Fruitful good to hear you are getting up and about take it easy and hoping Theo doing well

mixedmama · 15/12/2007 17:12

Hi all,

Have managed to catch up (sort of.

So sorry i missed Fruitfuls post last time. Congrats. Theo is a lovely name.

Have had 4 tightenings whilst catching up in the last hour for about 10 seconds each and lots of niggling.... doubt it is anything tho.

Not much else to report, just hi to everyone and hope novody is feeling too crap.. and Lucky hope your MW and hosp sort themselves out.

mixedmama · 15/12/2007 17:18

Lulubump - meant to say sorry about the driving test, but also to say you dont have to be stuck at home with baby. I spent 2 hours in the internet cafe yesterday looking up baby / toddler groups and made a list of about 5-6 for each day to give us some choice. You can get out and about even if you dont drive... I have even tried to select some that are a fair distance away to get some walking in for losing weight (Lucky think you were talking about wieght loss). Please dont feel that you have to stay in.

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 15/12/2007 17:32

Hello everyone.

Fruitful - Glad to hear your up and about, keep smiling and before you know it you and Theo will be on your way home.
Naetha - Keeping my fingers crossed for you, if this is it then keep us updated!!

Well today DP and me did most of the wallpapering (couldn't finish cos it went dark and we needed to take the light switch cover off to finish) & put the cot up. Tomorrow I'm going to be finishing the wallpapering and painting the room. I've got a border with cute little teddies, cats and dogs all over. Bought a blind but it's too small so we're taking it back tomorrow to get a bigger one.

The cats have been acting really wierd around me today.... I was leaning over my ball and they were really interested in my "area" and have spent all day following me and trying to sit on my knee.

Anyway... hope yous all ok. xxx

Naetha · 15/12/2007 17:45

Still here, tightenings regular every 8 minutes or so - quite intense, taking my breath away.

Also got a blinding headache - don't know if it's related, but it's very annoying!

Went for a walk on Ilkley moor earlier which I thought might get stuff going a bit more, but although I was having loads of contractions while I was walking, as soon as I got back they settled back to their old rhythms!

Ah well, just gonna keep going and hope it doesn't peter out!

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 15/12/2007 17:47

Naetha - Have you tried some paracetamol?
