A place for those of us finally moving on from the infertility boards to share feelings, questions, tmi and to generally support each other.

I can’t for the life of me work out how to copy and paste that due date list 😂😂😂🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Mine is 25 August ... same as you @sazzt 🥰 will catch up properly later... we have our anomaly scan tomorrow xxx

MF1981 · 11/04/2021 09:33

@BonTon I can’t work out how to do it either! I’m 14 weeks today and due date is 10th Oct. I’ve started to feel really anxious about the screening test results now. Always something to worry about isn’t there?!

BonTon · 11/04/2021 12:17

@MF1981 yep there is ! Was the nuchal translucency measurement low for the twins? If so, I’d guess the likelihood of the bloods coming back with anything is low. 🤞🏻How long ago did you have it? I was told no news is good news and if I didn’t have a call in the first few days it would be low risk and the letter would come through later with the exact risk profile x

SpyroC · 11/04/2021 13:40

@ivfjourney5 we have growth scans on the same weeks too due to the slightly low pap A. I'm glad too! I have an anterior placenta but my husband has still been able to feel her 🥰. I sometimes see little twitches too!

@sazzt I'm glad the scan went well 😊 the boys are now very outnumbered! We've caved and booked a mammas and poppas one for next Sunday. I just hope there's no high pressure selling! I might try and get to a shop in the week too. The internet is just confusing my brain. Enjoy pram shopping tomorrow!

@ChicaXS glad to hear you are well. I want to breastfeed and have been in nursing bras for a while (seemed a waste buying just maternity ones) though I'm looking for better yet affordable ones. The hospital gave me a magazine just on feeding which is really good. I'm not gonna bother with an electric pump unless i find I need one after she's here. Apparently a manual one is good to collect the waste from your other boob. Who knew it would also produce milk! 😂 I'm trying to keep an open mind with regards to a birth plan, especially as they want to induce me before 40w. I've watched plenty of one born every minute episodes though 😂. My midwife said we'll have a double appointment on birth options in the 3rd trimester.

@MF1981 I felt the same about screening results. At least you know the nuchal fold was good so that's a positive sign. I was so scared when they called me 2 days after but it was just slightly low Papp A. I think I'm the only one to have anything slightly off come back from the screenings too. Remember no news is good news!

@BonTon I hope all is well tomorrow. X

Not much going on here though we decided upon wall paper for one wall in the nursery 💗 we can put that up next week. I feel like I'm getting fairly clued up on pregnancy and labour but not so much about what to do when she's here. I wish there was a show on TV documenting life with a new born!

We had the scan and blood test on Wednesday - the nuchal measurements were 3 for one of them and 1.6 for the other one. As I’m 40 and they were my own eggs I’m already concerned I’m in the high risk category so was worried about the measurement of 3. That baby was measuring 2 days bigger than the other one as well. They did warn us that we might get 2 different risk results. Just have to wait and see I guess and hope the phone doesn’t ring this week.

BonTon · 12/04/2021 18:59

Thanks @SpyroC! Our scan today went well and we are having a baby girl too ! She’s measuring right on track (other than her tummy circumference which is measuring a week ahead 😂) and no problems picked up.

Will be thinking of you @MF1981... hopefully the longer it goes on the more comfort you can take that no news is good news xx

tikha · 12/04/2021 19:30

@MF1981 you could potentially nipt. In fact nhs should offer to you due to high risk pre invasive tests. In private, fetal medicine nipt costs 400 but I would think in your situation nipt is something that should be offered to you. Did they what your chances of getting something abnormal are? It would be dependent on the rest of your screening bloods. Am sorry all this so stressful. Big hugs

MF1981 · 12/04/2021 19:48

@BonTon great news about the scan!

So we got the phone call today from the screening midwife - twin A is high risk for Down’s syndrome with a 1 in 71 chance. We’re going in to the hospital tomorrow to discuss the result and next steps.

BonTon · 12/04/2021 20:17

Sorry to hear that @MF1981. I suppose 1 in 71 is still a relatively small chance but it’s another rollercoaster that you just don’t need. Thinking of you x

MGee123 · 12/04/2021 20:22

So sorry to hear this @MF1981 - extra worry you don't need. Although it sounds scary, 1/71 whilst classed as high, is still proportionally very low (eg I wouldn't bet on a horse with those odds). Hopefully your appt tomorrow is helpful and you can talk through options.

@BonTon congratulations on your news, glad everything went well 😊

@SpyroC I just went straight for nursing bras as well, seemed more economical! Whilst on the pricier end of the scale, Seraphine's bamboo ones are heaven. So unbelievably comfy. I'm seeing lots of movement now too - so weird. She is such a wriggler and on the go a lot...hoping she is tiring herself out, ready to be nice and calm post arrival!

@ChicaXS I'm hoping to breastfeed so long as it is feasible and goes okay. Not ruling out formula if needed though as best laid plans don't always work out! I haven't looked at anything to do with birth/pain relief etc. Preferring to stay blissfully ignorant for a bit longer!

@sazzt congrats on your girl news too! Lots of them on this thread!

SpyroC · 12/04/2021 23:32

@MF1981 I'm sorry to hear this. I would echo what the others have said but can imagine it's still really scary even so. Hopefully they will be helpful tomorrow and offer you the nipt test. Thinking of you x

@MGee123 they do look good! So it's good to hear they feel as good as they look too. I might invest when I think my size is peak!

@BonTon I'm glad all went well today 😊. The boys really are outnumbered!

@MF1981 sorry to hear this too and I hope the appt went well today and there's a planned way forward/ NIPT test offered to you.

@BonTon congrats on having a girl! Lots of girls on this thread!! I'm feeling impatient to know now!!!

@ChicaXS sorry you're suffering with insomnia too. It's awful isn't it! I managed a full 7 hours sleep 2 nights ago which is the first time since November that I've not woken up in the night or only had a few hours sleep. Feeling rather like a zombie and pleased to be able to wear make up. For me, I usually struggle to get off to sleep so lie there tossing/ turning til about 3am then manage a few hours. Eugh. Horrible.
Btw - your due date is my birthday! A good sign!! :)

@SpyroC I've arranged for the nursery to be redecorated (we have builders in so they're going to add this in) so pleased with that! Just need to empty the room now and find some curtains.

On feeding - I'm planning to give the colostrum in hospital and then FF for a number of reasons but I also like the idea that DH will be able to partake in this too!

I've not been asked by the midwives yet about it other than in the booking appt where she said "so you will be breastfeeding won't you" and I responded with, "I'm not sure yet but there's plenty of time to decide"....so sure they will have a view!

I realise that my decisions on ELCS and FF will horrify some but they're the right decisions for me and our family and I'm a firm believer that everyone should do what they want to do!

25week appt went well last week and we had a scan on Sat too so was great for DH to see baby and all tracking well.

SpyroC · 13/04/2021 19:04

@TheGlitterFairy how exciting! Absolutely, you have to do what's best for you. Not for anyone else to judge, you do you. We've booked a 4d scan mainly so DH can get to see a full scan. We now know they have decided to allow partners at all antenatal appointments again but think we'll still do the scan anyway!

I hope it went well today @MF1981 x

SpyroC · 13/04/2021 19:36

@MGee123 I had a look at Seraphine's bamboo bras and they are clearly what Asda have copied 😂 so I'll definitely give them a try. Is the padding built in or removable? It's the removable padding that's getting on my nerves with the Asda ones. X

OP posts:
MGee123 · 13/04/2021 19:54

Absolutely agree @TheGlitterFairy, you do what is best for you 😊 I am open to formula feeding too, but am going to try and persevere with breast feeding if possible, partly as a cost saving exercise! I am hoping to pump as well though, so that we can get the baby used to bottles and my husband can participate in feeding too. Not sure if I'm being idealistic but will give it a go! Exciting news about your nursery!

@SpyroC the Seraphine ones don't have padding but the material is pretty thick. I haven't had any issues with them and would have always worn padded bras normally. They are so bloody comfy, not sure I'll ever get out of them 😂 When is your 4D scan? That will be nice to look forward to!

Hope today went okay @MF1981 🤗

I know it's a bit cliche but we decided to book a few days away at the end of June for a bit of 'us' time pre-August. We're even going to have the dogs looked after for us for 2 nights, which we never do! I'm looking forward to it already 😂 anyone else thinking of doing similar?

BonTon · 13/04/2021 22:34

Thanks all and thanks @SpyroC for tirelessly updating that list!

@TheGlitterFairy incredible will power not finding out! Do you have any inklings?! How are you decorating the nursery? Great news that your 25 week appt went well - what happens at that one? And absolutely, you do what’s right for you! I think it’s really important that the dad also gets to feed as it’s a bonding experience (and gives mum a night off 😂) so I’d definitely like to pump and bottle feed after the first few weeks.

@SpyroC and @MGee123 I needed some new bras as I’d outgrown all my usual ones and just bought 3 maternity, sports style bras from Calvin Klein - they do a 10% discount if you subscribe. They’re really comfy and have removable pads.. would recommend.

@mgee123 a baby moon! That doesn’t sound cliche at all... the last holiday alone for a good while and you should make the most of it. We’re off the Cornwall next week and I really can’t wait!

xxx

SpyroC · 14/04/2021 10:06

@MGee123 I normally wear unpacked thick material so that sounds ideal. I tried an
unpadded one but it's not good with pregnancy nipples 😂. I would love to but do a baby moon but DH started a new job a few months ago and doesn't get paternity leave as he hasn't been there for long enough so we need to save his holiday time for when baby is here. Might sneak a weekend in though!

@BonTon it's removable pads that get on my nerves you see. Though thinking about it I might see if that type are ok without the padding. How lovely that you are off to Cornwall! Will be great I'm sure.

I have my first pushchair shop appointment today. I'm actually excited 😂. I think DH wants to just buy one as he's sick of me going on about them-that will not be happening though!

MF1981 · 14/04/2021 11:26

Thanks for all your good thoughts. So basically the screening midwife said that I could have the amnio done which carries a 1-2% risk of miscarriage because it’s twins, pay to have the NIPT or do nothing but have my 20 week scan done by a twin specialist consultant at another hospital who can check for the soft markers. We’ve ruled out the amnio as the miscarriage risk is the same as the Downs risk so it made no sense to me. Plus it wouldn’t change what we do as we’re not going to terminate so we’d be taking a risk for no reason really. So I think we’re going to pay £250 for the NIPT, although it is slightly less accurate for twins. I’m terrified the result will worsen the odds for us. But weirdly the midwife said yesterday that my hormone levels are normal and actually the only thing that flagged the need to check was that one twin’s NT measurement was quite a bit bigger than the other but still in normal range. So if it was a singleton pregnancy we wouldn’t even be having this conversation 🤷‍♀️. Very confusing!

SpyroC · 14/04/2021 14:28

@MF1981 I'm glad you have a plan. I think I would do the same In your shoes too. That is confusing! Anything under 3 is " normal" so you're clearly within. Hopefully they are just being extra cautious!

@MGee123 I forgot to say my 4d scan is next Saturday 🙌🏻

The challenge now seems to be trying to get someone to take my blood for the test! Who would have thought it would be so difficult?!

BonTon · 14/04/2021 17:07

@MF1981 that sounds as positive as it could have been! Really hope it’s a storm in a teacup for you xxx

Good luck with the pushchair appt and the 4D scan @SpyroC!

sazzt · 14/04/2021 22:20

@SpyroC hope you enjoyed the pushchair appointment! We had one on Monday and I was excited too. Did you find anything you liked?

SpyroC · 15/04/2021 15:22

Pushchair hunting was good though I'm more confused 🙈😂. The Fox 2 wasn't as nice as I thought and DH loved a silvercross pioneer but some of the reviews are bad. Trouble is I think they fixed the fault last year so it's hard to tell what reviews are relevant. I liked the Ocarro but the seat seemed low (we are both tall) and it was quite heavy, Cossatto (they didn't have the exact model we like available for testing though), Silver Cross Pioneer seemed perfect until I read the reviews and I'm not ruling out the Fox 2 as although we didn't love the look or the price it will definitely do the job I need it to. So 2 more shops lined up for the weekend, hoping to test the Cossattos and pay a bit more attention to the Cybex Prium, Uppababy Vista, Icandy and Nuna Mix. We will then probably plump for one and hope for the best. I've been off work so had time to give it attention this week. I don't really want to be hanging around baby shops in my 3rd trimester with Covid lurking.

@sazzt I thought it would take half an hour then I'd spend the rest of the time browsing but nooo pushchairs took over an hour and if it wasn't for parking limits We'd of stayed longer 🙈. I clearly underestimated it! Did you find anything for you?

I realised yesterday that aesthetics are more important to us than we initially thought. I also found my back twinging after just testing lifting them up when folded. Anyone else found anything that suits them? It really is dependent on your lifestyle I think x
