Naetha · 09/10/2007 12:08

Afternoon all

Just come back from my GTT - wasn't as bad as I thought to be totally honest - the drink was just water with what tasted like icing sugar in it - hardly nice, but not unbearable! Get the results tonight I think.

Had a chat with one of the nurses as well about feeling crappy and ill at the moment - I have a sore throat, headaches, stuffy nose and cough at the moment - she recommended (God love her!) a couple of days off work to rest as she thinks I have a virus that I'm not shaking off due to tiredness and working too much. She said I shouldn't do any housework either, but its hard not to when you live in a bit of a tip!!

Anyway, I'm going to take it easy today, watch some TV, take a nap, cuddle my kittens etc etc

Hope everyone else is feeling OK after MW appointments, falling over(!) and the grotty weather!

Cazzybaby · 09/10/2007 12:15

Naethea - sounds like you need some TLC! sending you lots of hugs xx

Cazzybaby · 09/10/2007 12:16

Oh I just remembered bringing up baby tonight

gingeme · 09/10/2007 12:16

Neatha sounds like they still use the glucose paste at your hospital. They use Lukozade at mine which I realy hate!! Glad it went well though. Alot of waiting round though isnt it?
Time off, no housework is she having a laugh or what?

Naetha · 09/10/2007 12:24

Ooh I do like BUB - gives me and DH a chance to rant at the TV

sabinar · 09/10/2007 12:42

argh. I really need to get our TV situation sorted so that I can watch some of this baby stuff. (We've not had a working TV for a couple of months now.. it's good and bad).

FluffyMummy - glad you like my coat! Although if there are only XSs left, that must mean that I got the last Medium! They must be popular! I was looking at another coat here but was too slow and they ran out of dark brown in my size... they have a black in size 14 left, but that's all. You've got to get in quick by the looks of things!

Is this GTT something that everyone has to do, or only a chosen few? I haven't heard any talk of it yet...

Naetha - I'd be definitely trying for a couple of good solid rest days now that you've been given a good excuse. Having said that... I wonder how many of use can actually do that... I know that I couldn't even if I wanted to right now. Calendar too full of things that have to get done! Hope you feel better soon and can get a bit of rest at least! I'd definitely be delegating the housework if you can!

madmouse · 09/10/2007 13:22

Anyone else having a Phil&Ted's pushchair? Quite a few of my mates here in oxford have one and they rave about it. For me it was love at first sight. I decided against a travel system, because we use the car very little and normally cycle everywhere. I want to replace the cycling with walking so whereas babe will be in mostly second hand clothes, I am splashing out on his bed-on-wheels .

MrsMcJnr I have ordered Kushies nappies. £76 including p&p for a full year kit. At least if it doesn't work I haven't spent hundreds

Naetha · 09/10/2007 13:35

Sabinar this is the problem I have - I have too much to do at the weekends (sort the house out for impending new arrival) that I just never get any rest time.

Madmouse - I looked at the Phil and ted's and it was definitely my second choice, but I didn't like the fact it couldn't face backwards at all. I really like the idea of that with the buzz, and they're about the same price. I'm the same as you though - second hand clothes all the way - so far we haven't bought any clothes at all, and yet we have enough to keep us going until about 6 months at least!!

Amani · 09/10/2007 13:50

Agree with Naetha - weekends are a mad rush of cleaning house, laundry and cooking and freezing food for the week. At least when I come home from work I have nothing to do

Hi ladies

long long time no speak - but I've been really busy. Work is hectic, have had a stinking cold and my best mate had a little baby boy a few days ago so I've been visiting her.

Anyway - diving in

madmouse - i am a phil&teds obsessive. Bought one on ebay a couple of months ago and my dd loves it. She always wants to sit in the bottom though so am not sure what she'll think when the baby comes!

fluffymummy - BF - its not always all about the positioning - it can also be if the baby can't suck properly when born, like my LO. This can make things nightmareish and result in horrendous mastitis but I agree the lansinoh does help.

Sabiner - sorry to hear about your ankle. Liking the winter coat though.

Fruitful - hope things are better for you. Any more news on being able to leave hospital. Thoughts are with you.

BWmum - rocking chair - that sounds lovely and a chair which the cat won't hog - excellent news.

toomanyshoes - baby screenings at the cinema - what a fabulous idea. Like the sound of that. They never did that round my way!

Awen - how's you and ds? I was like you and got an old style Graco travel system for dd1 - its like a blooming bulky armchair on wheels. Won't be using that again. Wish my dh realised I was pregnant! And if he doesn't go up into our loft soon and get out all the old baby stuff I'm going up there myself! Bump n' all.

Cazzybaby - hope temp job just as good as today

MrsMcJnr - how are you! You're back. How was your time away? Thought of you last week, knowing it would have been your due date. Hope everything was ok.

Me? I've become obsessed with ebay - helpppp!

susiemj · 09/10/2007 14:05

Hello all,

Sorry about your ankle Sabinar and your coldiness Naetha. I like the coat Sabinar - well done for getting in there quick. I still haven't! and the rain is pouring!

Cazzy - I agree. It's funny when you realise your DP has secretly been googling and takes up the 'of yes.. that' cool approach! Lovely really. Mine won't pick up any of my books or leaflets, but occasionally slipd things into the conversation which lets me know he's been internetting like mad.

BW mum - I agree about the rocking chair. It's lovely to have a rock. There's one in my maternity unit and DP gets in it every time and falls asleep. LEt's hope his daughter takes after him!

Madmouse. I'm thinking of a Phil and Ted's too. It's a big inital outlay but I'm hoping I'll save in the long run as we're going to try for another pretty soon after this one. You seem like a bargain hunter! Those Kushies are really cheap. Where did you find them? And if you find any cheap P+Ts let me know!

Glad you're feeling ok.Amani. Hope sons are flourishing gingeme and Awen. Awen, if you don't mind me asking are you Welsh?

Wrap up warm all from this rainy weather!
x

MamaMaiasaura · 09/10/2007 14:27

Susie - lol @ am I welsh. No I am not but DP's family is Hope you are ok.

Fruitful - thinking of you today. Hope you ok and your placenta decides to move in the right direction.

Bettymamma - Dont go up in th loft!! Nag your dp lots How is it having him home now? There seems to be alot more mess here now dp home

Naetha - glad GTT went ok for you. I had a vile orange flavoured syrupy drink to have. Was surprised they did 3 lots of blood.. despite being a nurse i really dont like needles. Was a long wait, over 3 hours. You should def tak a few days out to get your strength up.

Sasbinar sorry to hear about your fall. Cant help on the jeans front as I have now got 3 pairs from dotty p, under bump, on the bump and over the bump and am having to hike them all the time. I had GTT as had gestational diabetes with ds1.

Fluffymummy - loved your post and very helpful too

Madmouse - the Kushis sound like a bargain. Have you got a link?

Gingeme- DS is lots better now HOw are things in your home? Everyone on the mend i hope.

Cazzy - love you description of your cat lol. Hope temping is good again today

Amani - glad MW appt went well. Have mine next week. Was the blood for iron levels etc? Could the mw tell how baby was lying?

BWMum - how exciting having ordered pram. Not done that yet although decided on the bugaboo. Am trying ot hold off ording it in case they is a special sale (ever hopeful here). Laughed at you cat too. They are funny creatures.

Am not feeling myself. Very tired, pale, headachey. DP just made sure i was all resting before he popped to office and ds is keeping me company and playing on PS2. He is bvack at school on Thursday so plan to take him to cinema tomorrow. Bit naughty but think he deserves a treat after being cooped up for so long.

Anyone heard from mixedmama or beller?

fluffymummy · 09/10/2007 14:29

Sabinar - thanks for that..I'd been looking at the same jacket on FHTM (where its a scrap cheaper) but they're out of stock. Going to order it right now!!

Bettymama - sorry, didn't mean to imply that positioning was all it took, obviously there are lots of reasons why BF can be a complete nightmare, just trying to say that it really helps to get that right given how hard it is even when there's no reason for it not to work...

DH is getting very interested in the Phil & Ted, even tho we already have our bugaboo and mclaren quest, for when we go out with both kids at the weekend. I'm still hoping we'll be able to convince ds to walk everywhere when necessary but he'll not even be 2.5 so that's probably optimistic!

madmouse · 09/10/2007 14:59

I'm not that much of a bargain hunter, just a bit wary of what you are sold when you are a vulnerable first timer (and a cunning lawyer but lets keep that out of it ). It just seems so easy to spend thousands.

The Kushies I bought are here www.thebabycatalogue.com/prodinfo.asp?number=BN1006K+WHITE
The free accessory kit includes nappy bucket, wipes, soak etc.

They have posher nappies that are fully pre-shaped but I find them sooo expensive. We will no doubt use disposables for days out and the early days.

If I find a cheap Phil and Teds I will post it here immediately. They are now going for about £295, except Mothercare who is stuck at £329. Waiting for early January before I order.

Naetha · 09/10/2007 15:06

Awen - your name in Welsh means inspiration or muse, cos I thought you were Welsh as well ;)

Susie where abouts in Wales are you from? I'm from Bangor but live near Leeds now

FrankAwenstein · 09/10/2007 15:08

madmouse - ta for link

Naetha - like that it means muse I heard it in druidism means life force i think.

Naetha · 09/10/2007 15:12

Bah I keep on posting messages then forgetting to mention other stuff I thought of!

What are the chances of getting a quinny buzz for cheaper than £270, anyone know? This is the cheapest I have seen it on t'internet at www.groovystyle.co.uk. Is it ever likely to be included in a sale?

gingeme · 09/10/2007 15:23

Afternoon ladies. I loved the Phil and Teds for ages but not sure if I like the baby dangling underneath. Been looking at the Maclaren erm traveler I think its called because of the way it folds up. We are going to have to get a double buggy this time. Never had one before but some Ive seen in Mothercare are realy rubbish.
What are you going to see at the cinema Awen? Realy glad your ds is much better now. My ds is fine. I tried to look down his throat today but he kinda gags if he opens his mouth too wide. But what I could see doesnt look red or sore at all
Bettymamma Im not allowed on Ebay without permission from dh now. Kinda spent too much a few months ago and got in trouble with our bank .

FrankAwenstein · 09/10/2007 15:32

opps re ebay gingeme. I havent got into ebay (avoiding it i think). Just looked at whats on and there is nothing on! ds has already seen the simpsons and surfs up looks crappyiola. Was going ot do orange wednesday but nothing to see. Ho hum, well i will try and think of something to do.

Had a look down ds's throat too the other day. Most of the white stuff is now gone. Looks a little red but not bad.

Amani · 09/10/2007 15:35

Awen - yes blood test was for iron and bile salts (!) so should find out results next week. No m/w did not check position on baby, prob when I go for my 31 week check up. DS defo deserves a treat after everything he's been through. What you watching?

Gingeme - good to hear your DS is better.

Still no sign of Beller and MM..???

Hello Bangor girl Naetha! I was born in London though Dad's family originally from Cilgarran nr Cardigan. I now live in Llanidloes in Powys but am moving to Aberystwyth next week! My mum's from Leeds!

That's my big news for the day because I think I just bought a HOUSE! I'm all breathless and excited and can't wait for DH to stop working and squawk with me!

We've had so many niggly problems with the house proceedings so I did a load of disgruntled phone calls this morning and now they are all solved and am feeling like superwoman

Sorry for splurge. Squawk with me!

Bettymamma · 09/10/2007 16:11

Loving the name Awen - need to come up with something equally as spooky. Sounds like you are coming down with something. Yes dh leaving rubbish round the house everywhere. He had the week off last week to get over China and phoned me everyday at work with questions like 'where's the ironing board', 'why does the dishwasher bleep', 'how do you operate the microwave'. Quite irritating.

Beller, MM and Motherofz all gone missing - then again I can't talk. I wandered off for a week without a word.

gingeme- good to hear your ds's throat is recovering. Ebay addiction. It can get serious can't it, cos its not like real money. I will stop it. I've just got stuff for the baby alot cheaper than in the shops.

madmouse - i got phil&teds off ebay for £245 - second hand but in FABULOUS condition.

fluffymummy - didn't mean to jump down your throat about BF. Its the one thing I'm panicking about because it went so wrong last time. Am looking to sign up at the local nct bf workshop to see if that helps!

Bettymamma · 09/10/2007 16:12

susiemj - I'll squawk with you! well done

Naetha · 09/10/2007 16:16

Lol small world Susie - my mum lives in Aberystwyth!!

Well technically she lives in a small village called Cwmystwyth that's about 15 miles inland, but Aber's the nearest town It's a lovely place, although I'd be lying if I said it didn't rain much!!
