Thanks for all the replies on what to do with baby when going to the bathroom etc. helpful at least to know I'm not crazy! Seems like I'll just play it by ear when I'm there although I now remember the video tour of the hospital saying they had electronic tags matching me and baby so that's reassured me at least 😁
Is anyone else back to being utterly exhausted and also finding the heat far too much? I was in full on nesting mode the last 2 weeks knocking out lots of chores and now I can barely keep my eyes open and finding the heat unbearable 😓 38+5 and honestly would be delighted for baby to make an appearance any day now

Zoey92 · 28/05/2020 16:16

@Kez437 yes i feel so tired last few days, i was the same cleaning mad, moving things, tidying up.
Heat hasn't got to me too much, but getting serious "daggers" last 2days down there which take my breath away😂

Has anyone midwife weighed them much throughout?
I've just realised I've never been weighed since my 12wk scan 🤨
With regards to hospitals im pretty much the same as @chocolate26 private room with ensuite & all being well with me & little one out in 6hrs.
Midwife did highlight yesterday make aure plenty snacks for OH as they wont supply him with food atm, i suppose its different in every area with whats going on ATM

Busylizzie85 · 28/05/2020 16:20

I'm shattered @Kez437 and finding this heat especially at night horrid and I usually love the sunshine! 🥵

They weighed me last time I visited the hospital @Zoey92 it was very depressing 😳but I do think it's common to weigh you this was only because of my water retention/swelling.

38+6 (please baby come soon) 🤞🏼

Magpiefeather · 28/05/2020 18:57

Yep, shattered too! I’ve got a smallish list of things that still need doing before baby arrives, and to be honest just need to get past tomorrow (my little girls 3rd birthday) and I will breathe a sigh of relief!

To be honest I don’t even seem to feel better if I rest. I find it so hard to get comfy I’d rather distract myself with (slow) stuff to do.

But tonight, got to make the cake, jelly, wrap her present, and set up party games. She is so excited for her birthday I’ve a feeling there may be a few night time wake ups too!!!

Magpie21 · 28/05/2020 19:55

Thanks for all the replies re the midwifes. I was just intrigued as I haven't been through this before. Seems like it varies across the country. I think I'm going to be on edge for the next 2 appointments (38 and 40) because of how close it will be...gosh when I finish up work on Friday I'm going to have far to much time to think about my pending birth!! Ha ha

@Magpiefeather I could defiantly see myself wheeling my baby into the loo with me if I had to! Hopefully there will be nurses around to help keep and eye on the baby.

@MsMiaWallace I panic bought all the baby clothes in the first few weeks of lockdown when stock seemed to be hard to come across!! I got some long sleeves as it seemed good to have them but mostly got rompers and short sleeves. Il be so gutted it the baby ends up living in a nappy throughout summer! Ha ha

I've been testing an Air conditioner in my bedroom this week as it gets to 25 at night (live in a warm apartment). Does anyone have any insight into having a newborn in the summer?

AndddddHerewegoagain · 28/05/2020 20:02

@Magpie21 ds was 3 months during the heatwave of 2017. We bought an industrial size fan to try and keep the flat cool but the health visitors were aware it was a challenge (for everyone we weren't singled out 😂)

We just kept 1 layer on him. So long sleeve vest and pj bottoms then 1 cellular blanket. Babies find it hard to regulate their temperature so just be careful on how fast the air conditioning unit can work.

Hope everyone is keeping well. Baby girl has decided she doesn't believe in sleep. Im currently averaging between 20 mins and 2 hours sleep each night.

THANK GOODNESS FOR NURSERIES AND COFFEE

exciting times for everyone waiting to meet their little ones. Newborn snuggles are the best

HaichMal · 28/05/2020 20:08

@Kez437 yep, absolutely knackered this week. Lots of moments where it feels like I can barely keep my eyes open. I'm trying not to nap though as I often feel rough and out of it when I wake up.

Still no baby here but the constant back ache has changed to lots of back cramps and I've had a mix of my normal BH and some stronger ones. She's also pushing like mad downwards so that's been a lot of fun. Hopefully not too much longer 🤞

MissisBee · 28/05/2020 20:23

@Magpie21 DS was also a summer 2017 heatwave baby. In the daytime he was mostly in a vest or a romper. At night vest or sleepsuit, either with nothing or just a muslin over him. I was always so paranoid of him overheating, once I even put a thermometer in his pram when I took him for a walk 😂🤦
Lots of us in my 2017 group had a gro egg, which we renamed the egg of doom, as it was red with an angry face most of the way through the summer 😂
DS never liked being swaddled, so that was something we didn't have to worry about.

SearchingTheSkies · 28/05/2020 21:13

I'm also feeling shattered. The heat is definitely not helping. I'm considering getting a standing fan, but worried it'll set off my allergies.

I actually asked my midwife today about how to watch the baby when going for a shower etc. She recommended wheeling the crib into the bathroom, but said it would be ok to leave them in the bay as the tag security system is very good (apparently!).

I was weighed at my appointment (first time since 12 weeks), but I didn't look at the number. I don't need that kind of negativity in my life right now 😂

Hope everyone manages to get some sleep tonight.

MsMiaWallace · 28/05/2020 21:14

Those with kids already have you bought them a gift for when the baby arrives? If yes what have you got?

Rinoa · 28/05/2020 21:19

@MissisBee I actually bought a groegg and plugged it in a month ago to get used to how it works with temp and all that lol it's been red and orange this whole time! We live in the attic flat and have air con in the living room. Going to be quite tricky !

newbyxx · 28/05/2020 21:48

Hey ladies just an update, my
Beautiful baby boy was born today at 17.33 after 15 hours of labour! He is perfect 7lb 40z and I'm
So in love xx

Kez437 · 28/05/2020 21:52

@MissisBee @Rinoa I'm having exactly the same thoughts about baby being too warm. We are currently living in a mobile home whilst we start work building our house and we have done a lot of work to it so by all accords it's really comfy BUT in this heat it is like a greenhouse! I actually got a GroEgg delivered today and it's been on red the entire time since I plugged it in... Definitely going to need to think of something to cool the room down, any recommendations on a fan or air con unit or even which is best? God there is so much to think off!

@Magpiefeather good luck with the birthday! It was my step-sons 8th birthday the other day and I was dragging myself through the day trying to make it 'fun' for him. Gave up any attempt at sensible parenting and fed him sweets, ice cream and pizza the entire day while letting him do whatever he wanted 🤗 Don't put yourself under too much pressure, I'm sure your daughter will have a brilliant day, the simple things please them best and soon she'll have a baby as a belated present 💝

Seventytwoseventythree · 28/05/2020 21:52

Congratulations @newbyxx!!

Blizy · 28/05/2020 21:53

Congratulations @newbyxx!

Sibling gift, today I just ordered matching dinosaur soft toys, pink for the baby and a blue one for ds.

I had a scan today I'm 35 weeks and baby is estimated to be 6lb 2oz! I'm back in for a scan and clinic on Monday, the same for the following Monday, pre op then section day. Shit has become real...

peetieswie · 28/05/2020 21:58

Congratulations @newbyxx Fantastic news. Enjoy getting to know your gorgeous son xx

Smiffette · 28/05/2020 22:06

Congratulations @newbyxx

BirdGarden · 28/05/2020 22:11

Congratulations @newbyxx! Argh, first due date buddy to pop, eek! What a lovely weight too (when else in life do we say that?!?!)

Daughter was born in the heatwave of 2018, in the south east. The gro-egg informed us the house was a rather tropical 38 degrees during the day most of the time (it was a new build and rather too well insulated!). Two additional complications 1) stupid cat got in a bad fight and had to be kept indoors for 2 weeks because of an open infected wound, so couldn't even open windows or doors 2) daughter born with severe infection and had been in a heated cot initially, then dressed in umpteen layers as she learned to control her body temperature. The result was she HATED being underdressed. She wanted a sleepsuit on at all times Sad. I recommend the 0.5 tog gro-bag, it's really only as thick as a cheap handkerchief but my god it was handy - she felt "bundled" at night but wasn't dangerously hot.

Very glad to be living in Wales this time round Grin

Mj2196 · 28/05/2020 22:12

Aw Congrats @newbyxx !

Re sibling gifts my dd has been pestering for a my fairy Unicorn garden after seeing it on an advert so the baby will bring her that lol

BirdGarden · 28/05/2020 22:13

Oh and the baby is bringing daughter new books to read (quietly... please...). She will be turning 2 weeks after due date (or possibly as I give birth, who knows Grin) - have wrapped pressies already and will make her a cake come hell or high water!

BirdGarden · 28/05/2020 22:14

Should be turning 2, 2 weeks after*

MissisBee · 28/05/2020 22:15

Congratulations @newbyxx Great to hear your news. Hope you are both doing well.

DH has gone a bit mad buying DS presents from the baby - a Postman Pat vehicle set, a cuddly Shaun the Sheep and I think a Mr Potato head. He also got him a kindle fire on offer, but has given it to him already! And it was only his birthday 3 weeks ago!! We got him a baby doll for his birthday but he's not that interested in it.

Busylizzie85 · 28/05/2020 22:24

Congratulations @newbyxx

APD1981 · 28/05/2020 22:37

Ah congratulations @newbyxx. I've been thinking of you! So glad you got your beautiful baby in your arms safely.

3rd baby of our group born now. I wonder who'll be next?!

38+4

APD1981 · 28/05/2020 22:43

As for room temps, we have Hive so I put the remote for it in our room to monitor the temp. 25 degrees today! We have a fan in there but couldn't direct that at baby. I already have vertical blinds and lined curtains in there but big windows and gets the sun late afternoon/evening. So I've bought stand alone blackout curtain linings from Dunelm. Can use them with existing curtains. They've not arrived yet though but hoping if we keep them closed it'll help keep some heat out. I also read that putting a bowl of ice in front of a fan helps to actually cool the air rather than just circulate it. We're contemplating a mini air conditioner if the curtains don't work.
