@BabyBird20 sorry to hear your appointment did not go well and that things are better after you talk to others.

@BirdGarden we'd hoped to move a few weeks earlier but the solicitors faffed with the keys. Tbh, I'm glad he stayed put because doing everything with a brand-new newborn and me recovering from labour would have been so much harder. I did a good chunk of the packing and sorting through things, with DH moving all the boxes for me, and he and my mum did the kitchen. Then my mum helped me unpack the kitchen and entertain my 6yo (now 9yo) while DH sorted the other end out. We'd made sure I had somewhere to sit/lie down as I was having fun with my back. With my toddler then waiting a few days after to be born (we were convinced my waters would go as soon as we moved), we managed to sort out my older son's room, sort curtains and blinds and buy a few new bits to help it feel more like a new home, so it all worked out in the end.

@AndddddHerewegoagain hope you managed to get a good night's sleep and that things go well today. I'm hoping for sleep before the big event this time as both times I've gone into labour full term its after a night of no sleep or near enough and then my babies don't want to sleep straight away either 😴

AndddddHerewegoagain · 21/05/2020 08:18

@HaichMal thanks. Not much sleep and a horrendous first nursery drop off after toddler has been home for 8 weeks. Looking forward to resting this morning before my appointment this afternoon

HaichMal · 21/05/2020 08:21

@anddddHerewegoagain eek! Yes, get lots of rest now. Bad nursery drop offs are not fun, even though they've usually forgotten about it within minutes. I hope your LO has a good day regardless and all goes well at your appointment

BirdGarden · 21/05/2020 09:02

Anyone done the 90 minute circuit to encourage labour before? Was reading about it during the painful hours last night! If I had 90 minutes to myself I'd definitely give it a go, I'll try anything that doesn't involved fiddling with my cervix. Currently nursing a bump injury from 1 year old throwing herself at me yesterday morning so won't try it until that feels better.

@haichmal thank you for sharing your story. I've only met my named midwife once but she was very nice and into the more natural way of doing things I suppose, so if I could see her now at the end I think she'd be supportive of me wanting to watch and wait rather than take the referral for induction or even accept a sweep. Like you say consistency is beneficial.

Preparation is definitely the key moving with small children, sounds like you didn't have too far to go at least. Babies often don't come if mum isn't feeling safe and relaxed so he probably knew to stay put until the curtains were up!

I have an odd set of measurements from my growth scan at 36+4; baby's head was 2 weeks behind, and stomach and length were 2 weeks ahead. Lord knows what will come out if they cook for too long (husband was third baby, three weeks overdue, 10lb6oz!)

LillianFullStop · 21/05/2020 09:03

Enjoy your child free day today @AndddddHerewegoagain! I'm sure he is fine and enjoying himself right now Smile

Hoping to be able enjoy and relax this long weekend - one of the last ones just the 3 of us before this bub comes and makes us a family of 4!

APD1981 · 21/05/2020 10:25

I start Mat Leave tomorrow and my head of dept has just messaged asking if I'm available for a zoom meeting at 4pm today. Hoping it's a goodbye type thing with my dept rather than a work type thing! It's exciting though and nice to have something to look forward to.

@Andddddherewegoagain hope you get to relax a bit today but I also hope you're not waiting too much longer! X

HaichMal · 21/05/2020 12:11

@APD1981 it's also my last day tomorrow! I have a handover meeting at 2pm today but I'm running a presentation session at 6pm tomorrow, so who knows what time I will actually finish as it will need writing up afterwards. Hope your last days go well

APD1981 · 21/05/2020 12:24

@HaichMal thank you - you too!

umabb · 21/05/2020 15:42

Hey ladies, hope you are well. Nice that a few of you starting the leave shortly x
I'm just wondering how big the baby's head is considered too big to give birth to naturally ? In China (where I'm from) they have a policy that as long as the BPD is measured larger than 100mm they'd recommend an elected c section (I thought rather sensible).
My baby measured 100mm already (36+4) and god knows how much bigger he'll become in the next few weeks. I got myself a bit worked up last night because of this (and reduced fluid of course) but the husband just said "he's a normal sized western baby" 🤪

BabyBird20 · 21/05/2020 16:56

@umabb this is precisely the problem I'm having as my baby's head is over the 105th centile, he measured 36cm head circumference at 36 week scan 😬 I was completely set on a elcs but they have point blank refused me and said they won't recommenced a c section based on head size!! 😩😩

umabb · 21/05/2020 17:22

@BabyBird20 I just looked at my report, HC is 34.3cm! Oh dear......

umabb · 21/05/2020 17:23

@BabyBird20 anything we can do to stop them growing their head even bigger?? 🤪

Rinoa · 21/05/2020 17:52

Mine says HC was 33.85 at 36 week scan, I remember looking at the graph and thinking ooh I think that's a big head lol but sonographer nor Midwife mentioned anything concerning. BPD was 9.85. Not really sure what to expect! 😬

BabyBird20 · 21/05/2020 18:08

@umabb I wish there was! I'm just going to try everything I can to get him to come early! So he'll prob stay in for as long as possible! They want to induce me at 39weeks if he's not already here but I'm convinced I want induction as you're even more likely to need intervention then! 😬😬

umabb · 21/05/2020 18:43

@BabyBird20 believe we are due date mates and now we are big head baby mates too ! I'm going to jump around from next week to get him out sooner ! 😆 yesterday at the scan I had reduced waters and talked about possible induction. Part of me thought it might not be the worst thing to be induced earlier or even have a c section if I could negotiate for one. Today at recheck waters seem to be normal again, which I'm very pleased about but the big head is back to be the worry again hehe

Smiffette · 21/05/2020 19:22

Has anyone that's planning vaginal birth been doing perineal massage?

We've been doing it for 3 weeks now (once a week) and it's getting more comfortable so I'm hoping it's going to pay off!

APD1981 · 21/05/2020 19:25

@smiffette I haven't. My DH doesn't want to do it so it's a bit difficult. I'm not sure whether to bother or not.

Gigitree · 21/05/2020 19:34

@Smiffette I really want to do it, but I have short arms, a long torso and a big bump so I’m finding it impossible to reach (sorry for tmi)
My husband did attempt it for me yesterday bless him, but despite us watching YouTube tutorials he couldn’t quite get the hang of it and I didn’t really know what it was meant to feel like so it was like the blind leading the blind.

Not really sure what to do now because I did want to do it!

AndddddHerewegoagain · 21/05/2020 19:43

We've been doing perineal massages @Smiffette. I don't know how much it helped as i ended up having episiotomy last time anyway!

I saw the consultant today and have had a complete u turn on being induced 😂
The midwife did a sweep and im already 2cm dilated so induction seems favourable over a c section. If i hadn't been dilated at all i would definitely be going c section. Going in on Saturday as they dont like people with Gestational diabetes to go over 40+6. My friend is working so she will be my midwife which gives me more confidence as well.

Going to keep bouncing on my ball until then and keep everything crossed that i go into spontaneous labour tomorrow!

Smiffette · 21/05/2020 19:54

Thanks ladies!
I watched a video with husband and he has been doing it, just was easier than me stretching to do it!

Gigitree · 21/05/2020 20:00

@Smiffette which video did you guys watch?

Smiffette · 21/05/2020 20:04

@Gigitree oh I'm sorry I can't remember I just you tubed it and watched a few.... and it was about 3 weeks ago.

APD1981 · 21/05/2020 20:08

@Andddddherewegoagain ah it's good news you're already 2cm. And it'll be lovely to have your friend as your midwife so that's a positive for Saturday too. Your baby will be here very soon!

newbyxx · 21/05/2020 20:09

I haven't done the massage, I can't reach and my boyfriend wasn't keen. Will probably regret not doing it but I'm just in the mind set if I'm going with the flow everything is going to hurt but will all be worth it
