Morning everyone. I've been enjoying reading all your thoughts on different types of labour and interventions etc. It meant I didn't need to do much of my own research in preparation for talking through my birth plan with my midwife next week!

As for the turning over in bed thing, I've found that hard for a while now and which ever side I lie on, baby seems to lie that way so has to move when I turn over which can be quite uncomfortable!

I had terrible lower back pain yesterday going down into my bum. Seemed to start when I was on a little walk with hubby. Had a bath and then he massaged my back for a bit before I got on my front on my birthing ball and it feels a bit better today. Could it be a sign of things starting to gear up and get ready?! I'm 35+2 today.

I also have a telephone appointment with a health visitor later. I'm intrigued as to what she'll ask me but also excited as it's like another milestone hit when you get to the HV stage! Will also be nice to talk to someone different! 😂

Hope you all have a nice day x

peetieswie · 05/05/2020 09:31

Thanks @UKtoSK. I'm trying my best to keep upright and forward but it's tricky all the time. I might look into getting one of those Swedish kneeling chairs as I don't think I can watch TV sitting on an inflatable ball. There's a chair for sale near me for less than £20 on ebay so may go for that.

Also, for everyone, St John's Ambulance have a reduced baby first aid course for sale today. I've bought it and will do it later with husband.

Anyone get offered a scan at 36 weeks before all this happened? I got offered it back at 20 weeks I think as part of research for pre eclampsia. I assumed it would be cancelled but haven't gotten any notification so I called today and they said it's still going ahead. Quite excited to get to see baby at 36weeks! I am sad though that hubby can't come ☹️

umabb · 05/05/2020 10:48

@Rinoa I've had two growth scans with nhs and one more to go - booked for 36wk but I had to push it to the end of 37wk hopefully by that point I had not started labour ! 😬 don't think they can cancelling scans if they are necessary.

A friend of mine who is a few weeks ahead of us and has been in labour for the last 30 hours and still only 2cm dilated. She had pethidine injection to help with the pain but still feeling awful. I couldn't sleep at all last night thinking about her.. don't want us to have negative thoughts at this stage but I can't shake this off right now.. need some positive birth stories now!! 😓

34+2

AnonyHB · 05/05/2020 11:00

If I was in her position I would be requesting a section @umabb - one of the things I’ve stipulated with my consultant is that I’m not prepared to be in a prolonged labour which isn’t progressing, so if after 12 hours there hasn’t been significant progress I want a section (not prepared to be induced). It’s down to preference though but the chances of needing intervention (instruments) increases significantly in circumstances like your friend’s. Hopefully she’ll meet her baby soon!

AnonyHB · 05/05/2020 11:02

@chocolate26 I would check with midwife to rule out pre eclampsia, but I’ve definitely been getting sinus related (mild) headaches in recent weeks!

Rinoa · 05/05/2020 11:25

@umabb yes I don't think they will cancel necessary scans but as this scan was offered a a choice I thought they would cancel. I'm glad thy we didn't , I don't really want to go to the hospital but I am glad they will do extra checks on baby !

umabb · 05/05/2020 12:32

@AnonyHB completely makes sense to me. I don't think I would be able to handle that either... Hopefully I will hear good news from her soon :) x

Gigitree · 05/05/2020 13:15

Have you guys bought any toys or books for your little ones yet? I haven’t yet as I thought they’ll be pretty useless to begin with and hopefully friends or family might buy us some. We have a playmat/ gym type thing which has little toys on it but that’s it for now.

LillianFullStop · 05/05/2020 13:59

Omg @umabb that is quite long! When it gets to this point they should be considering maternal exhaustion and she won't have the energy to push by the time it gets to the end. I would be demanding the cut off before they give up and move to ELCS.

Rinoa · 05/05/2020 14:11

@Gigitree same I only have a play mat thing I need to wash. Haven't bought any toys yet .

Millettmum · 05/05/2020 14:37

@Gigitree
I have bought some bath toys and the odd little thing as I had to bulk some orders up for free delivery. Been given a tummy toy and play mats x

What a weird day! I've just been approached by the BBC to be interviewed about being pregnant on lockdown for BBC North West Tonight! My yoga teacher is a BBC news reporter and asked if she could pass my details on. So I've just had a chat on the phone with a journalist about it and told him some of the difficulties we're having that he'd not thought of or realised. It's being recorded via Facetime tomorrow and airs on Thursday evening.

Now I have to actually find something other than joggers to wear and sort out my hair and makeup. It's been a while!😂

SearchingTheSkies · 05/05/2020 15:42

@APD1981 How exciting! But I hear you on the getting ready front 😂 As much as I'm enjoying Zoom NCT sessions, I slightly dread having to put on real clothes and sort out my face and hair.

@Gigitree I've not bought anything yet.

Smiffette · 05/05/2020 15:49

@APD1981 how exciting! Be good to get some of the key points across highlighting the challenges! hopefully people will listen and then when the restrictions do start to be eased they will consider pregnancy concerns

APD1981 · 05/05/2020 15:53

@smiffette that's my plight! I am armed with all your experiences on here, too, so I have lots to say! I expect it'll be edited right down but it'll be great to say it anyway!

Smiffette · 05/05/2020 15:59

@APD1981 it's shame it's not live, then they wouldn't stand a chance!

APD1981 · 05/05/2020 17:17

Haha true!

Blizy · 05/05/2020 17:25

Does anyone suffer from gestational diabetes? I failed my blood test last week and have an appointment next week with the GD team, I'm getting a blood testing kit to use at home to monitor my blood sugar. I'm looking for any tips, dietary advice I can start on now rather than waiting another week.

Millettmum · 05/05/2020 18:14

@Blizy
I do. Reduce the amount of carbs you have, don't cut out completely. That includes sugary stuff. Protein and veg won't affect it so can plenty of that. Be careful how much fruit you have in one sitting because of the natural sugars, I got stung with that. No added sugar cordial is fine to have. I've been lucky to keep it to diet controlled so far x

Blizy · 05/05/2020 18:45

Thanks @Millettmum. Can I have things like no added sugar jelly?

Millettmum · 05/05/2020 18:57

@Blizy
Oh yes I have them everyday!

umabb · 05/05/2020 19:09

@APD1981 wow that's awesome! Can we watch?? What time is it for Thursday evening? You are our official speaker! xx

@LillianFullStop it is super long.. I still haven't heard from her again hopefully things all fine. Fingers crossed..

APD1981 · 05/05/2020 19:22

@umabb it's the regional BBC news at 6.30 (North West England). I'm sure on sky you can get regional BBC channels but not sure about other platforms.

AndddddHerewegoagain · 05/05/2020 20:12

Sorry to moan but this is my safe space to let it all out. ive been in so much pain all day today and not even contractions that I could cope with. Just ligament pain under my bump which has made walking painful. Toddler woke up at 330 and didn't go back to sleep until 5am, and has been the devil spawn all day and today. He fell asleep at 3pm and i let him as I just needed a break. Also ordered take away for dinner as I just couldn't face cooking. Still need to clean the bathroom before the plumber comes tomorrow as we have water coming into the kitchen. Feeling very fed up and sorry for myself! Hope everyone else is having a better day! Looking forward to bedtime
