Hi eveyone, nothing particularly interesting going on here, just catching up.

jenswish - hope the cramps and sickness have stopped today

gingeme - 118 vests???? I thought I was a hoarder but I will be nowhre near that

Awen - hope your ds op goes well today, let us now

beller - personally I am not keen on Robina (you asked for the truth) but Robyn is nice

I'm trying to find a holiday/short break as a treat for myself while I can still fly. Anyone have any ideas on where will still be warm at the end of October? Somewhere on the Med I guess.

Neuro · 25/09/2007 11:23

Ello ello

I have put on 2 stone, but seemed to have stayed at that for about 3 weeks so fingers crossed! It's all in the bump and heavier boobs, so can't be that bad. Is alarming stepping on scales though!

Knocked Up - I saw it on Sunday, it's great, it made me laugh outloud regularly all way through. Def go see it. There is a pretty disgusting shot of a baby's head crowing though urgghh has given me nightmares, thank goodness i won't have to see my own bits...(it didn't even look like ladybits anymore )

MrsMcJnr · 25/09/2007 11:29

Morning wow! Busy! Will try and catch up and come back

Last night we were at a real nappy chat at the hospital (basically, it is an environmental charity promoting the use of them so she was able to talk about all the different kinds and to warn us off some makes). The talk was held in the labour ward and as we walked past we sneaked a peak of some new borns we also heard them crying throughout the talk and I exchanged some excited glances with some of the other ladies one of them was having twins and paled significantly at the thought of 20 dirty nappies to change in a day when they are newborn! So, anyone have any thoughts on the use of and type of real nappies to use? I thought I?d stick with disposables for a couple of weeks until the tar poo stops and I?m in the swing of things and then try a lending pack to try the various types out and see how we get on. Any advice gratefully received!

barristermum · 25/09/2007 11:38

Morning - am slacking at home today after trial finished yesterday - have done little bits like washing and clearing out a cupboard, and spot of hoovering, but haven't read an of the briefs I brought home to prep, and have read lots of the weekend's papers.

Nicky6 I had a dilemma where it looked like a client of mine was going to get charged on a multi-handed murder starting Jan 22nd! All they needed was something other than his co-def to put him at the scene. So far not charged and have to say I'm relieved not to be presented with the dilemma - it wd have been my 1st murder! IS texted me from the police station after his last i/v "Not charged, maternity leave back on!" Immense row with dh averted!!

Jenswish - hope you are feeling better - sounds a stressful stressful time.

Lilyloo - we are having Frances as middle name for my mum and all the female members of her family if a girl. Can't decide 1s name - narrowed down to Cerys, Erin or Isobel. If boy will definitely be Patrick Alan - the Alan is for my Dad.

Awen - so glad the waiting is over for you - best of luck for you and ds - am sure all will be grand!

Gingeme - how irritating re dh - and you can't really complain as he is at least doing the washing up!!

Not wishing to get self hunted out of the country but am still minus a pound on pre-pregnancy weight - Lost half a stone with nausea and alcoho; abstinence, but started to gain much more quickly in recent weeks. Still - have much vaster reserves of bulk than the rest of you to call on, so do not hate me!

barristermum · 25/09/2007 11:41

Morning Mrs McJnr - we crossed - I thought really carefully about green nappies but in the end decided it wasn't fair as will be farming out so much of my child care. Will try and assauge conscience with expensive biodegradeable ones as much as poss!

Neuro · 25/09/2007 11:41

I plan to do similar to you Mrs McJnr. This'll be my first baby so dont' want to deal with real nappies straight away. Will give it a go about a month in i think.

mixedmama · 25/09/2007 11:45

never actually used them myself but a few of my "baby group" mums did altho most of them used a mixture. they seemed to find them very easy to use and have not heard any negative comments from anyone I know.

Neuro · 25/09/2007 11:46

Hmmm my office seems terribly dull now Barristermum and Nicky6. Gosh, murders. Eeeee!
And congrats on not really gaining any weight! Think not drinking makes quite a lot of difference. I could've happily drunk a few cocktails last night. Mmmmmmmm. I did have a glass of wine on Saturday, only a small one. It was delicious and was first bit of alc for about 5 months.

karenLouise · 25/09/2007 11:47

Hello ,

I really enjoy reading all of your tales thought it's time I stopped lurking and started contributing more!!

Mrs M - re real nappies, I haven't really looked into this too much yet but DP and I are certainly keen to give them a try even though my mum thinks that I'm totally mad for even considering it although like you we will start off with the disposables until wer're a bit more settled with the baby.

I seem to have gained just over half a stone so far - hoping not to gain too much too soon as I worked so hard to loose weight earlier in the year! Although I am dreading what is goingt o happen after half term as I currently teach dancing for about 5hrs a week but am stopping at half term as I am starting to find it quite hard work - especially toddler dance classes where if I stop dancing - they all stop dancing

I seem to be having an active phase at the moment had a very productive time at the weekend cleaning and baking. We have got the cot assembled in the nursery and a chest of drawers filled with bedding and sleepsuits/ vests etc for the first few weeks, so all in all I feel fairly organised. However we're still dithering over what pushchair to get.

Oops what a mouthfull from someone who's been so quiet.

mixedmama · 25/09/2007 11:49

Well done for being so organised. I have just decided to accpet wieght gain with open arms, i will need the focus once the baby is here to shift it all tho.

MrsBiscuit · 25/09/2007 11:50

Nicky6 - I've been looking at maternity wear this morning (boss away so internet surftastic) and saw a couple of dresses on Next. One was black with empire line satin sash, suitable for black tie.

I've just managed to squeeze into my faithful black Reiss dress (bit like a Mouret galaxy) so you might want to have a look there.

Got a shock when I tried on my boots for the first time in ages - they wouldn't do up! Is leg chunkifying normal at this stage?

Naetha · 25/09/2007 11:53

Nicky - I went to a black tie do on Saturday, and as I don't usually wear dresses (I have odd looking thighs, knees, calves AND ankles) I wore smart black trousers and a flouncy top that showed my cleavage off - went down a treat

beller · 25/09/2007 12:09

Neuro - I saw that film too....very funny! Also lurked on the Dec thread a bit this morning and saw you had your bike stolen How you feeling generally now?

Sideways - I agree with you, not keen on it either hahaha her friends called her Robbie...think she might understand if i dont use it MIght do as naetha suggested and use Robyn, would have to think...

I have put on just over a stone now....but all seems bump and boobs, so not bothered. Re the nappy thingy, have been thinking about both, read a big article that says they both have as much effect on the enviroment but in different ways? Obviously the landfill sites are getting full though.......what to do!?

Cazzybaby · 25/09/2007 12:13

Nicky6 - I have a wedding next weekend and still no outfit I am really struggling they have some lovely things in Zara maternity but nothing weddingy grrr!

MrsMcJr - How about going for the Biodegradable disposable nappies??

I am feeling sorry for myself today just got back from docs and have urine infection very sore bump and back ache as result

beller · 25/09/2007 12:18

cazzybaby - thats not good..have they given you antibiotics? hope your better soon x

LilyLoo · 25/09/2007 12:20

morning all. Hope all ok
just a quick one good luck today Awen for ds . hope he feeling better soon
Beller i'm witht he girls on Robyn too !
Haven't even dared to weigh myself yet
Just got back from check up at dentist and everything good didn't even need scale and polish so am glad about that!
Dp has done two weeks skmoke free now and i am really proud of him. We worked out at over £5 a packet each day that's a £100 month he is saving by quitting, let's hope he can keep it up.

gingeme · 25/09/2007 12:23

Afternoon ladies. Re all the vests they weren't all from my babys I was given quite a few of them too. Yes your right Barristermum at least he does the washing up.
Dont have any experience or advice about 'real' nappies Im afraid.
Don't have a clue about my weight gain either and I think Ill keep it that way too thankyou very much
Bean was moving round loads last night. As I was laying on my bed I put dh's hand where bean was moving which abruptly came to a halt. I remember the other boys doing the same. I guess dh will have to wait till he can cuddle bean for real when he arrives
Oh sanitery towels. If you ladies are going to start stocking up on these dont buy maternity towels theyre about as absorbant as a frying pan. Ive always used the most absorbant Always towels. I think they are night time ones which are also nice and long too. Purple packet. Hope that helps.
Right lunch time now. Take care all xx

mixedmama · 25/09/2007 12:25

I ahve bought a few packets of maternity towels but now you mention it perhaps that is a better idea.

MotherofZ · 25/09/2007 12:27

agree with Gingme about the maternity towels - they were terrible, although the ones given at the hospital were super absorbent. I switched to the Always night sanitary towels too.

OP posts:
BeckyAu · 25/09/2007 12:30

Hello there ladies

Wow it's taken me a while to catch up on all the chat! I'm currently avoiding doing any work as have had productive morning and just can't be bothered any more! I have a real need to go and buy everything I need to make spaghetti bolognese tonight. For all you domestic goddesses this may seem trivial but for me it's quite a big deal. I think I must be nesting too

We're settling well into the new house - sooo spacious after our little 2up 2down! The cat just runs around at full speed because he can which is very funny and DH keeps going into the wrong room upstairs because there are so many more doors than we're used to!

We haven't bought a thing for poor old Beanie yet though we must go and drive some pushchairs soon. We have builders starting in a week or so, so our focus is more on that really though bean is booting me alot now to remind me he/she's there. It's a nice feeling - I do like the company

I have put on quite alot of weight too... but then I am eating constantly and I had a box of Heaven truffle chocolates after breakfast yesterday (YUM!!!) so it serves me right. So I started the day today with my Davina Pregnancy DVD which has until now been collecting dust!

Love to all xxx

MrsMcJnr · 25/09/2007 12:30

Bettymamma ? chopsticks hey?! I can see those advantages i.e. being in charge of the remote and the bed space but ironing would be a disaster if DH went away as he does it all he was sweet, even asked at the nappy thing last night if they had to be ironed! that?s a good idea about the recipe section. I love cooking and before this pg I was always trying out new things and testing them on DH and friends, I?ve got really lazy since though but for the first 4 months the smell of meat cooking made me feel really sick. So it?s true, you do forget what happens in labour then? That is comforting My Dh doesn?t have a middle name and he wishes he did so he?s all in favour of our baby having 2

Naetha ? ah yes, I remember now Thackray! So no Zacharay?s for you! We are having two middle names for our little one, we want to use a relative?s name as the second name and my maiden name as the third ? my father is an only child, I am one of 3 girls and we seriously considered double-barreling our surname to include my maiden name but DH changed his mind probably because mine had to go first for it to sound right! I don?t want my family line to die!! Mind you, in Spain you always have 2 surnames, your mother?s and your father?s so we are only giving our kid what other kids will have at school in Spain!

Mixedmama ? it is hard but I am getting so attached to this Beanie and know that he/she wouldn?t have been here if fate hadn?t intervened, I guess I have to look at it that way LOL now have a very wrong image of you and DH oil wrestling in your front room on a Sat night! I hadn?t realized Turkey was so huge with such a massive population ? including camels! I?m with you, meals are a time to sit and chat and catch up, and DH would rather eat in front of the TV. I hate it. On Sunday, he was out all day at the football so I cooked him a 3 course dinner and we had a candle lit dinner in our dining room (going to make the most of my lovely house now!!) it was lovely to do that just the two of us, we normally sit at the kitchen table when it?s just the two of us. I?ve heard that bi or tri lingual kids do take longer to say much ? my friend has that issue with her kids.

MotherofZ ? sounds like the Strep B is one of those things that you are going to have to keep bringing up with your carers! Your DD sounds sweet ? what?s her name? I love the things kids say ? at my wedding, my nephew was the ring bearer and was 2 ½ yrs. When I arrived in my dress he beamed from ear to ear and shouted ?Aunty Manda?s got a tail!!? it was hilarious!! I?ve put on 12 pounds since hitting the 2nd trimester, I didn?t put on any before ? I am hoping its all baby and boobs ? no doubt my mother will tell me otherwise when I see her on Friday!

Hello Barristermum it?s freezing up here today (ice on the windows) but lovely and bright ? I love September! Can?t believe you will still be working in 2008 hon!! sorry to hear about you Mum, my MIL had awful PND twice and is a manic depressive, she?s been institutionalized a lot and has tried to take her life a few times, DH can get really, really low for days and it scares me sometimes. I do worry that Beanie might inherit it is that stupid? I sometimes feel overwhelmed already but most of the time I feel ready and excited. You are right though, we?ll all be around to support each other after our babies arrive too and with that buttress, hopefully we?ll all be fine yeah, yeah the vinyl is getting relegated to the loft! I don?t approve of paying for brochures either ? that?s why I boycott Next!! I have two pairs of mat pjs and they are sooooo comfy. Here www.littlewoods.com/rf//navigation/product.do?D=406128367&thisprod=406128367&Mis_item_loc_id=1&Ntk=g roupsearch&SNtt=maternity%20pajamas&N=85%20103&Nu=thisproduct&Ntt=406128367&Dx=mode+matchall&Np=1& product=406128367&Nty=1&Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&SNu=pcaid&Misitem_id=15 and here www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/detailgroup.php?type=GRP&code=A9062&branch=IC&category=CSD LOL I have to say, this is the first time in my life that I have actually liked my tummy!! Thanks hon for your kind words, it?ll be weird but I am looking forward to getting past it to be honest.

Hey Jenswish sorry to hear you?re having a bad time I hope the cramps have gone and that you are feeling much better today.

Gingeme ? ok thanks for your help - so we will need to consider contraception then, crikey! I was on the pill for 18 years (little did I know the risks I was at then as I didn?t know about my blood clotting issues) I?m not allowed back on that ? nor would I want to so I guess I will put the temping method to the test (it worked when we were TTC ? eventually!) DH would not be happy if I suggested condoms! I can understand why that habit of DH?s would annoy you ? it would bug me too. My Dh is a pain as he goes round the house turning off all the power at the walls, now that?s fine when it?s not something in use and I appreciate it is very environmentally friendly but when it is the fridge or the freezer or the alarm clock ? it really bugs me!!!

Lilyloo ? yeah, we can celebrate mat leave together!! I got given a break down from HR of the amount of money I can expect to get ? ball park ? that was a little sobering!!

Awen ? thinking of you and DS today, it will be such a relief for you all when it?s over x

Hey Sabinar so glad you had a lovely time! Offered a seat?! so there are some gentlemen out there, I am still getting pushed out of the way on the train and there is no doubt that I am pg Thunder and Falcon ? now those are unusual

Ah Mummyto2 ? that?s lovely congratulations! Lovely names you?ve got me singing Eric Clapton?s Laila now love that song!

Beller ? a memory name is just that hon whatever it is, if our Beanie?s a girl, her middle name will be Rosemary for my Gran, quite old fashioned but I like the idea of linking the name to my Gran. My Mum?s name is Rowena ? I did consider Rowan for a boy but DH was having none of it! I think Ava Robina Bell sounds fabulous!! ? you go girl!! a variation is Eva if you really have to appease your friend!! thanks for your sentiments for me. I?ve healed so well thanks to all the lovely ladies on MN, the pain is so much less than it used to be.

I see Charlotte Church called her baby Ruby Megan I like Ruby ? it?s a family name in DH?s family as is Rose but there is already a Ruby Rose Mc and she is only 4 (DH?s cousin) so that was out for us!

Hey Nicky6 LOL at your Mum and step Dad ? fabulous! Yeah ? hope the nursery rules! We did the Nursery Advisor thing at JL it was free and frankly really helpful, we wouldn?t have known where to start otherwise. All the best for Friday and how exciting that you?re an classes start ? can you teach me what you learn? I am so worried that my baby will come before I?ve learnt anything! I have a smart black dress borrowed from my sis and I intend to jazz it up with bright, jewel coloured pashminas this winter!

Sideways ? Cyprus or Turkey should still be warm. We head to the South of Spain on Friday but I know the weather will be really hit or miss now.

Hey Neuro LOL you sound on good form!

Coming up for air! Taken me an hour to catch up!

barristermum · 25/09/2007 12:31

Am I right in thinking tampons are worse than useless given recent stretching that part of the body will have been through? (Oh the horror!) I hated towels when I first got my periods and tampons saved my life - can't bear the thought of going back.

mixedmama · 25/09/2007 12:32

was it good beckyau??

Neuro · 25/09/2007 12:34

Hi Beller
Still miffed off about it, but trying to be all zen about it and not release more stress hormones into my system, can't be good for baby eh? Going to see if i can get a new bike under house insurance as all the years i've been paying insurances for various things i've never made a single claim. Am trying to look at the situation as me feeling glad that i am not a thief! And that despite my empty bank account i wouldn't stoop so low to steal anything.
Thanks for asking!
I'm amazed how much I am missing my bike though, just in the last few days. My trusty steed!
x

mixedmama · 25/09/2007 12:40

ROFL laughing at prospect of tampons... Barristermum the last thing you will want is anything going up there .. I remember I opted for the pill at my 6 week check as i couldnt bear the thought of having anything fitted up there....
