kelmcd · 23/08/2007 14:14

in my own experiences not many people bring their children unless they are older 12+. It can be quite difficult for little ones to see their mummies in labour, they dont understand. Leaving them in a waiting room is ok as long as they are with someone and agin this can be a long time for them to be hanging around, boring.
the last time there was a child in with mum and dad, she was only bout 1-1/2yrs, mum unfortunately having to have an em c/s, it was only because we were extrememly quiet at the time that we were able to watch her whilst mum and dad were in theatre. but again sister in charge wasn't happy, health and sfatey eyc.
so if you can, i would try and leave your kiddies at home or with someone

kelmcd · 23/08/2007 14:24

hope that doesn't sound too harsh but that it is the view from hosp side. i also know that it isn't as easy as that and would definately not want my DH not be near by or having to leave them with someone i am not comfy with

MrsFish · 23/08/2007 14:26

Good afternoon.

Well I had every intention of doing some housework this afternoon seeing as ds is at nursery, but the sun is shining so I have been sat with my feet up in the garden reading Peter Kay's autobiography and eating ice cream and ice pops . Just come in for a quick catch up and then I am off out there again

Well all this talk of people starting to have their babies and shows etc is getting very exciting... I am just scared though . The memories of having ds have all come flooding back especially after my hospital visit last night and I don't want to do it again

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 23/08/2007 14:28

no, not harsh, really useful and good to know. prob better in that case for dh to stay with dd at home until someone arrives.
take the point about dd not seeing me in labour - i am v discreet but dh said the other day she copied me rushing from room with hand over mouth to be sick... they do notice these things! don't fancy her 'playing' labour when she goes to childminders!

Hi Everyone

Just popping in to let you know Amyclaramum had her baby girl this morning...

Elouise Sarah - 8lbs 5oz

All is well and Mum and baby are resting and getting to know eachother.

kelmcd · 23/08/2007 14:45

Quick question - are muslin squares as expensive as they are in mothercare in other shops aswell!! for something so basic they seem to be pricey

Hopeitwontbebig · 23/08/2007 14:47

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY another one, massive congrats to AmyClaraMum, SO pleased for you. x x x x x x x x

Amyclaramum and Lou: CONGRATULATIONS!

Looks like a couple of other announcements are imminent, judging from the show discussion!

Very exciting!

Kerri28 · 23/08/2007 15:00

oh my god it's all moving sooo fast!!! congratulations amyclaramum!!! 2 girls already!!! i'd better have a boy to even things up a bit......

well have been for lunch and a rather painful walk, cos although no tummy pain feel like been kicked between legs and finding it hard to walk.... have had a bit of dull backache, a bit worse than usual, and feel a bit of tightening round tummy but not much so not really anything to report to you guys, but considering i didn't know i had dilated at all, perhaps i won't feel anything until later on all seems a bit strange to me - i thought labour was supposed to hurt like hell...have been preparing myself for it for ages!!

well am going to tae some paracetamol and doze whilst i still can. will keep you posted.. good lck everyone else and i will keep on reading and posting if i can.

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 23/08/2007 15:02

Hello everyone, many congrats amyclaramum! Great news, great name, just great really

dal - I'm still waiting for the midwives to call me back. They have an answerphone to leave messages and nothing so far...

HIWBB - I too have hypermobile joints. I was diagnosed a few years ago after years of back problems and the fact that I've torn my cruciate ligament in my knee three times !! I can do all those things too, bend my thumbs back to touch my arm, touch the floor with flat palms etc (not when pg though!) Those moves are part of the Beighton score (sp?) which is used to assess flexibility. I think I got 7 out of 8 when I was assessed, so pretty bendy really. It's probably why I've got a knackered disc in my spine, years of the ligaments not doing their job properly and damaging the disc. So far I haven't had any problems this pregnancy (touch wood!) but you're having problems. It's horrid. I was told by the physio that people like us find it easier to give birth though cos our pelvis' flex easily. You've had two big babies so perhaps that's why you were able to manage it! I hope you get some relief soon!

I'm very of those of you with sunshine, it's pouring here, has been most of the day. I've been on the computer for hours cos there's nothing to do (well there's boring stuff like housework... pah!)

Kerri - I hope you managed to get a nice rest, take it easy

kelmcd · 23/08/2007 16:00

Mrsm - have you found anywhere to get cheaper muslin squares?

Also BIG CONGRATS to amyclaramum and lou
It is wonderful news for both of you

dal21 · 23/08/2007 16:04

Huge congrats to amyclaramum also!

Kerri - sounds as though you are next.

MrsM - this weather is pretty dire isnt it? Has rained non stop since monday in london. I feel pretty crabby this afternoon - taken a long nap this afternoon so tonight will probably be a rubbish nights sleep. Woke up feeling a little sick too - toast and cereal has made me feel better. I did too much yesterday - have got to slow down.

anyways, enough about me! hope everyone else is ok. any more shows/ contractions?

dal21 · 23/08/2007 16:05

Kelmcd - do you have a sewing machine? Muslin is dead cheap to buy and really easy to make up in different sizes.

kelmcd · 23/08/2007 16:09

unfortunately not, so having to buy them, just dont get why they are more than £1 each. Iam already turning into a grumpy ole thing, this isnt good
