Have you been drinking enough water? I find I get them when I'm a bit dehydrated or if I've been doing too much physically - they started about half an hour after I hoovered last night!

This is my 3rd pg too but I didn't get them with the others so they're new to me - freaked me out at first!! I would have panicked if it wasn't for mn!!

This is where we all start wagging our fingers and telling you that you must get some rest lady!!! I know its not easy, especially with the kids at home in the holidays (don't I know it!) but do try where you can! Could the kids do little jobs for you while you direct them? xx

EmLouT · 24/08/2007 10:57

PennyPops - I keep getting dreams where I neglect the baby or lose it. I also have a recurring dream where I forget I am pregnant and get really drunk and smoke loads of cigarettes and then remember I am pregnant again. It is a horrible dream especially since I don't drink or smoke!

Still no sun her in London - looks very gloomy so I am going to go and get some final bits and pieces for the LO - not sure if going to the shops is such a good idea as kids are still on school holidays but I have got to get out of the house - DH is still away and I am going stir crazy here on my own.

Enjoy the sun everyone who has some.

emj23 · 24/08/2007 10:59

I'm terrified. I had my MW appointment this morning. I'm 34+5 and baby is measuring 38. I have been referred to hospital next week to find out what's going on - I have no idea if I'm measuring that big because LO has not engaged, or if I have excess fluid, or high glucose levels or if there's something wrong with her.

EmLouT · 24/08/2007 11:51

EmJ - I know it's easy for me to say but try not to panic too much. My sister was told at 34 weeks that her baby was measuring 40 and that they might have to do an early C Section. She decided against having it and waited another 8 weeks. At 42 weeks she gave birth to a beautiful little boy - he weighed 9lb 8oz so he was a little on the large side but nothing to be concerned about. There are all sorts of reasons why your measurements might be out. The baby could have just gone through a growth spurt and the growth could slow down over the next few weeks. I know it's a worrying time but I am sure everything will be ok.

PurpleLostPrincess · 24/08/2007 12:02

Awww emj, I measured 40cms this week at 35+4 so they've referred me for a growth scan in two weeks so I know how you feel. I've been big all the way through though... I've got water retention on my bump which could be part of it but I too am a bit unsure. I keep telling myself that they can't make me do anything I don't want to do. Also, from what I've heard, they often predict the weight of the baby wrong anyway! Hope all goes well - keep us updated!? xx

kyala · 24/08/2007 12:14

Ooh I didn't do a post yesterday did I?!
I definitely remember reading the posts of everyone else though!

Congratulations to Amyclaramum!

I've started having the hiccups feeling in my bottom (other's are having this now too aren't they?) Do you think this means LO is moving south? DH says I look like I've dropped a little but I don't feel it (did with the first)

emj23: I used bibs and Muslins for DD and I'm still using muslins as large bibs for dinner time for her so I think they're a great help (and if you do have a sicky LO it covers a bigger area )
Try not to worry yourself about the baby's size, it's probably just be excess fluid (was it actually the baby that was measured or your bump?!) Think she should've done a bit more to reassure you Bloody mw's always got something else going on eh?! Bet she was thinking of what she was going to cook for dinner tonight I've alwasy thought as long as you feel that there's nothing wrong then you shouldn't read too much into it (it's not going to help you being stressed out is it?) I too have been on the large size the whole time but I put it down to me just having put on weight after having DD!

Glad to hear the new Bourne movie is good DH has ordered it from his friend (they do pay for their DVD's over from the states but copy them for us ) so we've got that to look forward too (aswell as the Simpson's movie for DD, yeah right LOL)

Had a beautiful day yesterday with my friend, went round for lunch, spent the afternoon discussing the pro's and con's of men LOL and having a generally lovely relaxed time She even gave me a cup of the most gorgeous Chai that I've ever had (she said it may help things along too but nothing's happening, should've had more )

Dal21: Sorry to hear you're having problems with your local retailer, you would've thought they'd make a bit more of an effort as big name stores are "taking their business day by day", they're always complaining that the "little men" are losing out to the bigger chains but if they can't deliver then where are we meant ot be shopping?!

Anyone else's cravings playing up? I've not had any majorly weird one's (as with the last pregnancy, was just on Twix bars a lot!) but am now craving Carbonated water (all the time!!) It's going to cost me a fortune eh?! LOL Have asked DH to get me yet another 2 litre bottle after work but might phone him and ask him to buy 2 bottles to keep me going to tomorrow (thing is if it's there then I'll just drink it all!)

As for dreams mine have been VERY sex orientated might be due to the fact that I'm not getting any lately though

How come everyone knows how engaged their LO is? I remember knowing last time how far DD was coming but can't remember how far along I was when the MW started telling me, and this time my MW hasn't even said anything about it so am guessing she's not checking or just can't tell
Am going to recheck my notes (not that I can read her handwriting, what IS the deal with their writing?!!) but I don't think she's checked at all and now she's on holiday I'll just have to wait for the next MW appointment at the end of next week.

Have all our DP's gone a bit doo-lally?! My DH and I have recently been arguing about arrangements for DD when I go into labour, (he was suggesting that we actually consider leaving her with neighbours, whilst waiting for his parent's to come and pick her up, but we've barely spoken to these people in the 2 years we've lived here so they are virtually strangers ) Anyway, I wrote him an email to give him my view on things (we've started doing this with our arguments because it prevents me from taking an hour and a half to get one sentence out due to unstoppable tears LOL) he got home, read it, and said that I was totally right and it was a strange thing to suggest! I was a bit taken aback TBH but happy that I'm not going insane LOL
So, now he's agreed to just get her in the car and take her to his parent's himself (which he would've needed to do cos his parent's would never be able to put up the travel cot, it needs kicking out as it's a little on the temperamental side )
(Heehee rant over LOL)

I've not had Braxton hicks with either of my pregnancies so I can't even sympathise with those of you that are having them )Ooh maybe it's the fizzy water keeping them at bay )

PLP: I like the idea of putting up signs, unfortunately I'd have to put step-by-step instructions underneath on how to pick up said items LOL

Right, that's it, yet again I've managed to make a quick stop in into a rather large post So I'm leaving right now!!
Hope you're all having some nice weather, we are , but DH is working this weekend, blooming typical eh?!
So, will have to find someone else to entertain me for the weekend!! Any offers?

Where is the sun in London eh?!
Didn't think I'd mind having such awful weather at this stage of pregnancy but come on, it's Augugst and I went out yesterday in tights and boots!!

Glad to hear that there is sun in the UK and you are able to enjoy it - it is heading to London for the weekend, yeh!!

Is anyone else finding that they are outgrowing their maternity clothes? I can only wear my jeans if no sitting is going to be involved. The only comfy thing I have is a pair of yoga pants that my DH makes a face at whenever I wear them out of the house!

PurpleLostPrincess · 24/08/2007 12:39

LOL willjo, I've been wearing the same cullottes(sp?) all the way through and they still haven't faded from being washed so much! I can't wear anything else because having something around or under my bump hurts too much or provokes my hearburn even more!

kyala - I'm drinking still water like its going out of fashion! Also, I seem to be eating cheese triangles constantly, not sure why but they help a little with my heartburn... That's a good idea to do instructions on how to pick said items up - I might even try that LOL!

Weather was meant to be nice and I thought it was picking up but its rather gloomy here

MrsMar · 24/08/2007 12:53

Morning all... well afternoon really but it feels like morning cos I've only just got up !!! We're going to a black tie do tonight, something to do with dh's work, so I thought I'd lie about and doze for a bit so I'm not too tired later.... I slept until 11am!!!

I rang the midwives this morning (in a break from napping!) and they've booked me in to see them next week when I'll be 37 weeks. It's their policy not to do anything before then anyway, so that if say the ecv triggers early labour, the baby would at least be considered full term if he's born then. If they're still unsure of the position at 37 weeks then they'll send me for a scan and we'll discuss options then. Has all made me feel much happier.

Love the sound of all your cooking mrsB... I was going to do some ratatouille too, I've made a huge batch of homemade pesto sauce for when we're feeling very lazy... I'm also going to do some cauliflower cheese, shepherds pie, chilli con carne and maybe a nice chicken casserole next week! My freezer is heaving already though, I'll have to find room for your daal, sounds yummy!

emj23 - I hope hospital appt next week goes ok... I'm sure everything's fine with the baby. keeping fingers crossed everything goes well

PLP - sorry to hear you're having messiness probs with dh... I know all about that! What is it about men just dropping their clothes on the floor as if the magic cleaning fairy will come and sweep them all up, pop them in the wash and they'll magically appear cleaned and ironed back in the cupboard before you can say "messy beggar"!!!!?? Rant away, you won't hear any disagreement from me!

EmLouT - I think that was me dreamily imagining my maternity leave sitting in the garden with an ice lolly, wafting myself gently with a fan! Pah! Spent the entire day indoors yesterday looking at the driving rain. Lucky lucky folk who had sunshine yesterday!

I haven't had too many crazy dreams lately pennypops... I had loads during first and second trimester. I think I'm just so tired now I pass out when I go to bed!

sorry to hear you're also on the breech watch Holly. It's going to be a long two weeks I feel

Willjo - I've outgrown most of my maternity clothes, I've had to resort to a pair of dh's massively baggy tracky bottoms at home and then just being uncomfortable when out of the house. Only my next mat jeans are still comfortable, but then they're also still falling down all the time! can't win!!

I hope everyone else is well...

xx

EmLouT · 24/08/2007 12:55

Kyala - I share your strange passion for fizzy water - in fact I am really cravy any sparkling drink. I think it might be because the LO tends to come to life when I drink carbonated drinks and it is a reassuring feeling.

willjo · 24/08/2007 13:06

EmlouT and Kyala - I share your craving for fizzy water as well, I absolutely hated it before pregnancy but now I can't get enough - it stops me feeling so sick and also seems to help with the heartburn

What is it with maternity jeans that fall down?

Just attempting to register with a GP as I've just moved to the area - it's prooving to be a little stressful - I was told I couldn't register at one surgery becasue I was 'out of their area' I calmly explained that the surgery is on the next road along to where I live but the postcode just happens to be different and I wasn't prepared to walk 1.5 miles to the surgery that shares the same postcode when I'm 36 weeks pg - seemed to do the trick as they have (reluctantly) agreed to have me. Is this just a London thing or is it the same all over? I didn't have the same problem in Bristol.

Ok, better have a shower and make the trek to the surgery I know it's 1pm but I have just got a little side tracked this morning

LoopyLouLisa · 24/08/2007 13:08

in one of the earlier threads a few of you took a supplement/drink for iron levels. what was it called please? too lazy to go through them all. does it help or prevent constipation too? i want something for after the birth as i struggle usually with iron levels just with a normal period. i worry though about taking iron as it bungs me up and i remember not wanting to 'push' too much after my first section for fear of splitting my wound back open. irrational i know but it was funny watching every woman on my ward including me trying their best not to even cough lol

willjo · 24/08/2007 13:12

LoopyLouLisa - I have been taking Spatone in some orange juice, you can get it from Holland and Barrett and Boots. I haven't had any of the constipation associated with some Iron supplements. There is also another natural Iron supplement called Flavanoid (Sp?) which I think tastes nicer than Spatone but I find the OJ disguises the metallic taste! Hmmm, not sure it is called Flavanoid, maybe it's flax something - sorry!

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 24/08/2007 13:32

hello all. is floradix the iron sup? tastes rubbish but shouldn't make you constipated. not cheap tho if you're taking it every day.

i am putting myself forward for the pathetic shark of the september babies today. i have aquired (how?! i've been so careful) the mother of all piles. kept me awake all night. over the counter stuff doesn't touch it. it bloody hurts. dh is being lovely and doing everything but now has to work and inadvertantly pushed me over the edge when he told me grace paley died. so now i am tear stained and hiding in bedroom as dh's partner has arrived to work (or rather watch dh give dd her lunch and put her down for nap). i can hardly go out and say i'm fed up and i've been crying cos i've got piles and a writer you've never heard of and i've never met has died. now can i?

on the other hand even i can see how ridiculous that all is now it's written down. honstly, 'carry on pregnancy' or what?!

Pennypops · 24/08/2007 15:08

Oh ECATLM - really sorry to hear you are suffering, plus those hormones are a bitch aren't they??? If it makes you feel any better I am up and down like a yo yo too - excited one minute and sobbing pathetically for no reason the next. I guess the only comfort is that we know there isn't that much longer to go - relatively speaking anyway!

MrsMar - sounds like you are cooking up a storm! I am running out of space in ours as we currently have the biggest glut of tomatoes in the known universe and I am making batches of tomato sauce/bolognese/lasagne etc. virtually every day! Hope your do tonight is fun and I'm glad you've got your midwives to be a bit less "laissez faire".

Fio - sorry to hear you are suffering. I hope more water/rest helps.

I have a question - are Braxton hicks and period type pains the same thing? My crampy feelings are def getting stronger and more regular but bump isn't tightening at all. At the risk of sounding like a teenager writing to a problem page - am I normal?????

MrsFish · 24/08/2007 15:10

willjo - I am the same with my jeans, they are just too uncomfortable if I have to sit down now, also most of my tops are not covering all of my bump anymore, and I just can't bear to go out with any skin showing, even though I have no stretchmarks yet Still got 5 weeks practically to go too.

Not having craving for carbonated water but coke and tango are getting a battering, I really ought to drink more water...

I have been out at the park this morning and it is really hot here, so now I have come back inside where it is cooler, ds is having a nap on the sofa, I may join him

MrsFish · 24/08/2007 15:12

Pennypops - my BH don't feel like period cramps at all, my whole bump just goes rock hard so I have to semi lie down and breathe deeply to try and shift it, sitting up whilst having one is just to darn uncomfortable.

Pennypops · 24/08/2007 15:22

Also, these pains tend to be accompanied by lower back pain as well? It can't possibly be labour as the lo hasn't even engaged yet and while its uncomfy I wouldn't say its really painful. Any suggestions??

MrsMar · 24/08/2007 15:35

sorry can't help with the bh pennypops... not sure I've had any yet.

Hmmm glut of tomatoes sounds so nice. Did you see the programme where some scientists showed that eating tomatoes can reverse the effects of skin ageing? Made me love tomatoes even more than I already do!

I've been a bit obssessed with carbonated water ever since I gave up diet coke. Years ago I was on four cans a day and it was a bit ridiculous, so I gave it up, but I really missed the fizziness, so I started drinking gallons of sparkling water. I'm sure that's why I've got tons of cellulite (actually more likely to be the nasties in diet coke that caused that ) I've been guzzling it during this pregnancy, esp with some fresh lime juice in...hmmmmmm!

MrsFish · 24/08/2007 15:36

I would sat its just one of those things, you are carrying quite a weight in front just now, its bound to make you ache. If you are worried though, phone your midwife.
