Due March 2020 - FIRST BABY in late 20's

lonelyonee · 24/07/2019 13:55

Hello!
Just wanted to start a new thread specifically for women who are in their late twenties & are having their first baby in March 2020! 🙂
Not trying to exclude anyone just think it will be nice to speak to women who are in the same sort of circumstances as myself. Plus the other March threads are pretty full!

Bit about me:

  • due 28th March 2020
  • 27 years old (DP is 24)
  • was on the combination pill for 12 years
  • been with DP a year and a half
  • SO excited as this is both our first baby (DP's ex had a miscarriage @ 10 weeks a few years ago)
  • feeling nauseous, boobs are killing, weeing loads & having cramps/pains.

Look forward to hearing your stories & sharing this experience with you! 🙂 xx

@HighOnStilts good to hear, it happens to the best of us! Oh and great everything went well at your midwife appointment! I'm. It sure what's meant to be normal but may look it up before mine on Wednesday. I had to go for my bloods separately at the hospital so they're already done and out the way. Nervous she's gonna she I'm measuring small etc... as everyone keeps saying oh you're small aren't you! 🙄
I'll have to attach a bump pic for reference below. (Complete with cat tail).
Ooooo that does look lovely! Very chilled and relaxed which is what you need really, and ideal that the ward is so close. Definitely sounds like the better option to me, especially if your mums on board and happy to have you! (Might even be nice to have some you & Mum time).
We have one reopening right by my hospital so if I wanted I could choose to have baby there & any complications I'd only have to be taken essentially over the road. I do like the idea of being in the hospital already though with all the drugs right there though 😂
Oh I'm so excited it's made it feel more real now! Haha I really don't blame you if I had mine in the house I know I'd have to keep going and playing with it. I couldn't get the Footmuff as it's sold out and on pre order for delivery in 23 weeks time (mental) so I'm now obsessing over finding one online either used or similar to match.
Attached a piccy of the pushchair too!

OP posts:
HighOnStilts · 04/01/2020 16:12

Pushchair and bump look gorgeous!!! 😍
To be honest, you look like you have a small frame anyway and your bump size is all dependent on your frame/bmi so dont let it panic you if they try telling you you're not measuring as should be. You're bump looks fine to me!!! I feel bloody huge at the moment lol.
Surely you'll be able to get a footmuff elsewhere online! If you've got FB it's worth looking on FB marketplace too!
I've attached a pic of our pram and my bump.. bought this jumper from a charity shop today, it's H&M and looks brand new.... £3!!!! I got a french connection sweater too with balloon sleeves in a light pink colour... £4!! Retails for £65 online 🙈 had my eye on loads of baby clothes too but had to stop myself as I have so much already lol.

@HighOnStilts thanks! Awww wow you've defo got a bigger bump than me! 🥰 yeah I'm naturally small and lost quite a bit of weight in the first trimester so it's hardly shocking I've not managed to plump up (yet)!!! But it is annoying when people say oh really? You're a bit small aren't you? 🙄 I swear someone says anything more rude than that their head's gonna get bitten off 😂
Oh yeah I've seen that one, with the weird handle! Looks really lightweight tbf. Ahh it's so exciting!
Yeah I've had a look I can get one for about £20 that looks a similar colour to the pram so might just get it and see.
No way! It's well nice as well! I'm practically living in like 3 jumpers when I'm not at work & have to go somewhere as they're the only things I have that fit. I don't really see much point buying any more though... less than 3 months left!!!
Oh god I know it's so hard to stop yourself especially with all the sales on the clothes atm! But we already have plenty and no doubt will be gifted more at the baby shower and when he's born so I'm determined to only buy necessary things now (which is gonna be stuff for me really like pads and creams and nursing tops).

@jl2345 how're you doing lovely?

OP posts:
HighOnStilts · 05/01/2020 13:36

@lonelyonee
I'm 29 weeks today.... it's really real now I am both crippled with fear about giving birth and mega excited, lol! I just can't wait to meet our little girl now, she's going to be so spoilt it's unreal 🙈

Your bump looks just right to me chick, as long as baby is kicking away you really have nothing to worry about. Sick of all this "you're bumps small, you're massive for how far along you are" bullshit
Already had to move away very quickly from peoples wandering hands when they want to touch my bump without asking, it really stresses me out. The only person I let touch my bump is my OH and close family, I'm very protective about it when I'm out and about as well.

Our pram you can manouvere one handed, it's amazing lol and great as we'll have pooch to hold as well.
I'm the same with clothes, there is no point in buying now with how little time we have left but £7 for two tops I wasn't going to say no to 😆
Have you got a bottle prep machine? And are you breast feeding? I'm going to breast feed, well at least give it a go and then express inbetween so OH can have bonding time with her too.
Still need to buy a breast pump, changing unit and wardrobe for the nursery. Is it weird that I'm so excited about having a washing day of babies clothes 😆

Yes @jl2345 hope you're well sweetheart!!!

jl2345 · 05/01/2020 13:36

@lonelyonee I’m good thanks, just feeling very depressed about going back to work tomorrow. 9 weeks to go until mat leave begins! The pram is lovely, we’ve also got the Ocarro and I absolutely love it, it’s at my Grandad’s but I always have a little play whenever we go round! We’ve been busy clearing and painting the nursery over the past few days, just nice to have a room to store the things we’ve bought so far in now rather than it all gathering wherever there’s a spare corner in the house! Ahh @Highonstilts you aren’t too far away from me, I’m near Newark :) I think you both have bigger bumps than me ladies, however I’m sure my boobs are in competition and just keep growing to try and match my bump making it look smaller 😂. 28 week appointment tomorrow, everything is coming round so quickly! How’re you ladies sleeping? I’m having a nightmare with dead hips/legs in the night, sure I wake up and have to turn over at least once every hour, combined with loo breaks it’s a nightmare!

HighOnStilts · 05/01/2020 14:31

@lonelyonee oh you poor buggar!!
Well, these next 9 weeks will go quickly I can assure you! Bet it's so nice to be making a start on the nursery, I'm so jealous! When I move to Scunthorpe I'll only be an hour from Newark!
My boobs are engorged at the moment lol!! I'm about a 34H... fml.
Good luck with your midwife appointment tomorrow, do let us know how it goes!
I've just started sleeping with difficulty now, my OH has asked if he can buy me a pregnancy pillow I'm like YES!!!! I'd recommend looking them up! I'm the same with loo breaks too, especially when baby is bouncing on your bladder! 😆

HighOnStilts · 05/01/2020 14:31

@jl2345 was supposed to tag you in that previous post haha!

lonelyonee · 06/01/2020 18:49

@HighOnStilts awww I'll be 29 weeks Wednesday, I know yeah, I'm just really excited! As for the labour & birth what will be will be I am not worried about it.
I know it's stupid everyone's different I don't need some stranger telling me I'm too small. Ooo really I haven't had anyone try to touch without asking yet! Maybe it's because I'm so small 🤨😂😂😂
But I will not have a problem telling people where to go if they try. I'm not a touchy feely person at the best of times!
That's good then, ideal for you! Nope I'm planning on breastfeeding & determined to do it. I've bought a suction pump & an electric pump. I also do have a steriliser & a few bottles so that my partner can also feed & bond with baby (& to give me a little break if needed). Hoping it really works out 🤞🏻 if not I'll just have to get some more bottles.
Definitely not weird at all! I've been planning when I'm going to do it... move house get everything sorted, rinse washing machine with cleaner a couple of times then wash all baby's clothes & pack my hospital bag properly ☺️ anything can happen & I'd rather be prepared!
@jl2345 good good! Aww I know I'm gutted to be back at work but what can you do eh. Mines 6 weeks but only because I've put holidays before it (although not all of them have been approved yet which has pissed me off because I want a month before he's due). Oh really! Yay, I'm glad someone else has one! Ahh yeah I think mine will be kept at my dads until needed.
Honestly not sleeping well. Between being uncomfortable/in pain, baby moving, needing the loo, neighbours alarms going off at ungodly hours & the cats waking me up for various things I'm not getting much.
Yeah I'm also constantly swapping sides it drives me mad!

You ladies having a 4D scan at all? I'm very tempted after a colleague showed me a local place with a discount (it's still pricey though) and I feel like if I don't have one I'll regret it?
The only thing is that relatives & my partner have all been very negative telling me it's a waste of money & I should spend it on something useful. (Although partner has said that if I really want it I should do it).
Problem is they are partly right as it is a lot of money but I don't know if I'll ever do this again & don't want to wish I'd had one when it's too late. What do you think?
Hope you're well!

OP posts:
HighOnStilts · 06/01/2020 19:19

@lonelyonee Unfortunately everyone has an opinion but I let it go over my head. I'm really tired of hearing "oh I hope you know how hard it is having a new born" and I've honestly heard it a lot! What makes me laugh is the type of people who say that are usually fuckwits anyway.
I've finally got my baby shower sorted now which I'm really excited about and everyone on my guest list so far can make it! We're having afternoon tea at a local pub in a village near my mum and my sister has said she wants to decorate the room and is organising some baby related games which is so sweet of her!

I'm having a 4D scan on the 16th! Was a bit dubious about mentioning it to my OH as it was more expense but he was all for it and actually said he wants one for every child 🙉 (should we have more after this one) mine cost £99 but it includes pictures/full length video of the scan, listen to babies heartbeat, estimate babies weight and loads of other bits! I'm really looking forward to it as were so eager to know whose features she's got!! X

lonelyonee · 06/01/2020 19:30

@HighOnStilts sounds like you've had all the dickheads 😂 I'm wondering if I'll get any of that now! Yeah like we don't know how hard it will be, think we managed to make an adult decision without someone else's input didn't we 🙄😂
Ooo yay how exciting! That sounds so lovely, I need to really start thinking about sorting mine, but will probably only have 6 people coming so not exactly a big event. Not really sure if anyone wants to help organise or not.
Are you? Oh awesome, I've found one with all that kind of stuff on offer for £79 so was thinking about booking it but I'm on the fence after the shitty comments and the money guilt trip. Was going to ask these people to go with me but they can fuck right off now!
Well I thought I might only do this once I don't want to regret not doing it when it's too late and it's such a long time from 20 weeks to not see him, will be nice just to see his little face 🥰
Think I'm leaning more towards booking it but will still feel massive guilt for the cost ☹️ it's proper got me down today to be honest!

Hi ladies! Sorry I've been awol, I'm going to make my way through all the posts but have read a few.

Hope you've all had a great Xmas and new year! Not long for us all now :)

@HighOnStilts I'm also from Hull and hope to give birth in the Fatima Allam suite! It looks lovely doesn't it? Exactly what I want! Hoping all goes to plan so I can give birth there!

jl2345 · 06/01/2020 21:13

@lonelyonee the sleep thing is such a problem, I have a huge maternity pillow which is literally double my length but it still doesn’t completely ease the aches and pains in the night, the frequent loo stops have ranked up in this past week too! Had my 28 week appointment today, bloods taken and blood pressure and listened to baby’s heartbeat which is always my favourite bit. Midwife had a feel of my tummy and baby hasn’t gone head down yet, still somersaulting around my tummy apparently, she said that it’ll probably turn head down in the next couple of weeks, something else to make it feel so much more real and closer to being due!
@HighOnStilts jealous about the 4D scan, my other half refuses, says they freak him out, I’d push for it more but with the regular growth scans I don’t really have a leg to stand in in terms of seeing baby again, I’m the same though, I just want to know who it looks like! @lonelyonee definitely go for it if you’d like to and ignore everybody else’s comments, your baby, your choice! Last thing you want is to regret it afterwards ☺️
Hi @eskimod how’re you doing? How’re you feeling? Not too much longer now!

eskimod · 06/01/2020 21:21

A few things that's I can remember from the discussions...

I hope to have a 4d scan soon. Just need to book it! I think the one I looked at is £99 but I'm going to pay it because it seems like such a long time since we had a scan!

I've bought lots from the Mothercare sale. Spent about £250 🙈 some of the stuff I'm sure we don't even need but it was so cheap! I've also bought lots of second hand things from eBay and gumtree. Got some clothes bundles and got an I candy apple to pear pram for £25!!! And a free Moses basket. I've disinfected and washed it all and it's all like new!! 😊

I'm 28 weeks and people keep telling me they can't tell I'm pregnant! I do wear loose clothes though I guess... I've had the GTT because my dad has type 1 and I'm a bit over weight. Not heard anything back so I guess I have the all clear.

I lost a stone at the beginning of pregnancy just from a small appetite and now I'm only just hitting my booking weight again. So I guess that's good. Technically I've stayed the same!

I went back to work today after the Xmas hols. I was gutted! But I only have to work tomorrow and then I'm off for three days because I have to go to Scotland to a funeral... so after that, 5 weeks until half term!!! Then I'm hoping someone will take over my class and I can have an easy couple of weeks after half term 😊 I want to go back after half term just for some extra money!!

I'm starting to look into hypnobirthing as I really don't want medical intervention if I can help it. I'm so scared of the epidural. I'd really like a water birth. So fingers crossed all goes to plan!

I've attached some pictures of my bump!

HighOnStilts · 06/01/2020 21:39

@eskimod hey stranger!! Asif you're from Hull too! Small world 😄
I'm the same as you girl, dont want any medical intervention if I can help it and set on a water birth now lol! If anything I just want to experience childbirth in all it's rawness but we'll see how it goes on the day!
I did ask OH if he wants to join me in the birthing pool and I got an immediate NOPE THANK YOU. Don't blame him tbh 😆

HighOnStilts · 06/01/2020 21:40

@eskimod your bump is looking fab also!! 😍
Might end up bumping into each other in the birthing center! 😆

lonelyonee · 08/01/2020 21:51

@eskimod omg hey! Hope you're well! Omg bump!!!! You definitely can tell from those photos, I wouldn't worry about it though, I only get comments at work because my dresses are clingy and you can't miss it.
Be careful most places won't do the 4D scans after 34 weeks as they can't get a good enough picture as baby is too big. Oh what did you manage to get from mothercare? I went and I only managed to get an electric breast pump and a purflo breathable nest, there wasn't a lot left that was useful to be honest.
Ah I'm honestly not sure what I weigh 😂 haven't been weighed for months!
Sorry to hear about the funeral, but hopefully you can use some of that time for a little rest?
I'm going to start looking into it too! Might be a load of crap but also might actually be helpful and I think it's definitely worth a try! Not going to pay for a class I'm just going to rinse YouTube 😂 id rather not have one as they seem to cause problems but I won't rule it out if I'm struggling and need it I'll have to have it.

@jl2345 isn't it?! I'm popping a pillow between my legs and under bump. Still doesn't stop me turning over all night & like you said getting up for the loo! I had my midwife appointment today, she also did all of that, baby's heartbeat was nice and strong & he was head down. Bloods were fine. Urine had some white blood cells in so need to keep an eye on that. Nothing for her to panic she said just means I'm fighting off an infection somewhere and to keep an eye out for any symptoms.
We've got a little while left anyways so don't worry about baby not being head down just yet.
My partner thinks they're freaky too but understands I want one so he's basically given in to me 😂 exactly, I don't necessarily want it to see what he looks like I'm just keen on seeing him again! & I love the pictures!

Third trimester ladies! The countdown is officially on! Eeeeeeeeeeeee!

OP posts:
eskimod · 12/01/2020 17:05

@HighOnStilts my partner has said the same, he defo won't be getting in the water! I'm hoping I can have a water birth but yeah, we'll just see what happens on the day!

@lonelyonee I'm having second thoughts about the scan now... not sure if it's worth it?

I got all sorts from Mothercare. A travel cot, put Flo best, cot bedding, Moses basket bedding, dummies, feeding accessories, manual breast pump, baby bjorn carrier, cot mobile, soft toys, music cot toy, nappy disposal, a few bits of clothes for baby, maternity clothes and bras for me, pram accessories like a cup holder, uv cover, carrier clips, dummie clips...

We also have a next outlet store in Hull, I don't or ally go in bedding I cba with raiding the sale racks... but I was waiting for friends the other day and found lots of bargains for babies. Seriously need to stop buying stuff now!! My mum also got me some really cute baby doc marten boots 😍

Does anyone know when they will start writing a birth plan? Also, when should I start to wash bedding and clothes? And then when should I pack my hospital bag? Sooo much to think about! X

HighOnStilts · 12/01/2020 18:33

@eskimod @lonelyonee Oh ladies go for the 4D scan!!! I literally can't bare the wait now got mine on Thursday and I'm so excited about it.

Oh blumming hell writing a birth plan is a thing?! I didn't know that!! I had in it my head wait for my waters to break then go from there... 😆

I'm having my baby shower on the 1st of Feb and been told to expect lots of presents so I'm not buying another thing until that's over with lol!! I've got tonnes of clothes already but can't help picking stuff up when I go anywhere so my OH wont let me shop without him now lol.

I can't start washing my baby clothes until I move into the new house (still haven't got a moving date ARGH!!!) Going to call the solicitors tomorrow for an update as I'm getting increasingly pissy now.

There's no reason you can't start packing your hospital bag now! Better to be prepared than have to do it last minute, for your own piece of mind. We bought a backpack changing bag off Amazon and it's fantastic but we also need a hospital bag now.. more expense.. 😥 X

HighOnStilts · 12/01/2020 18:35

@eskimod OH MY GOD.... BABY DOC MARTENS!!!!
I. NEED.

jl2345 · 12/01/2020 18:58

@lonelyonee sounds like your appointment went well, I have to go back and give another urine sample tomorrow as one of my bloods was borderline (nothing new there, I’ve never had normal blood results in my life I don’t think!) Had my first growth scan on Friday, was lovely seeing the baby again, and currently measuring between 40th-50th centile so just as it should be, also had my Anti D injection.. that bloody hurt!!!
@eskimod we also got lots from Mothercare, it’s quite nice as we have all of the big stuff now except the cot bed mattress (bought a nursery furniture set second hand) so it means at least we can plan financially now know that the big outgoings such as pram etc are sorted :)
I’m not sure I’m going to make a birth plan, or at least not one in great detail, so many people I talk to have said they didn’t get to stick to it due to one thing or another so just don’t want to put pressure on it all going to plan!
Also attached a bump photo!

Due March 2020 - FIRST BABY in late 20's
eskimod · 12/01/2020 20:50

@jl2345 we also got a second hand nursery set. We're done for the big things now too. There's very few things that we need now.

@HighOnStilts ahhhhh I feel like I need to see her one more time too. I need to book it soon because I'm 29 weeks now so don't want to run out of time!

I'm going to start thinking about packing my bag.... also wedding planning to do! Ahhhh

lonelyonee · 12/01/2020 21:57

@eskimod I went yesterday!!! Pics attached! It was lovely, actually insane, my partner actually got well into it despite thinking it's freaky & ended up picking out of photos to print 🙊🥰😂
Wow nice little haul there then!
Birthing plan I think midwife will discuss with you soon but if you wanna write down what you do/don't want now you can. That's what I've done.
Washing clothes can also be done anytime... and hospital bag I don't think you can do too early just in case but obv you need to wash the clothes first.
I'm using my carry on suitcase & then when I have a changing bag that also. I've packed what I've got but waiting to move to wash all baby's clothes. Also am expecting presents at baby shower so I've stopped buying now to see what we're given then.
@HighOnStilts your waters might not even break though! You could just start with contractions or losing your mucus plug... best to be prepared I reckon 'cause baby will come when they want. Omg as if you've not got a date!!! Funny turn of events on my end we've got the keys to the house and I was thinking oh it's too early but I'm so glad we did it now because the place is DISGUSTING. Landlord has agreed to rip out the kitchen & fit a new one (which just tells you how bad it is). Previous tenants obviously gave zero fucks about the state they were living in. It's shocking honestly. But we do have until 1st Feb where we are now which gives us time to clean up & decorate the other areas of the house (which is actually every bloody room 🙄).
I certainly couldn't live there as it is now.
Yes the backpack one! I'm pretty sure one of my friends is buying one of those for me! Just use a cabin suitcase! It has plenty of room and wheels and will be easy to manoeuvre.
@jl2345 yeah it did I'm glad, oh Christ, well there's always something I suppose eh! I had white blood cells in my urine which apparently means I'm fighting off infection? But I feel fine. No symptoms. You get the growth scans though which is nice to see baby!!!
No probably no point making a detailed plan because you just cannot predict what will happen. I think it's more of a what do I want what do I not want kinda thing.
Yay bump! Looking lovely!!
@eskimod yeah you've gotta do it before 34 weeks but most places have decent availability, I only booked mine 2 days before I went ☺️

OP posts:
HighOnStilts · 13/01/2020 00:55

@eskimod Oh my god those scan pics are AMAAAAAAZING! Getting me so excited for mine on Thursday 😍

Well there we go, shows I shouldn't be writing a birth plan at all as I'm probably going to get the 'chain of events' (of labour) totally wrong anyway 🤣
Honestly, I'm taking each day as it comes now, I have a feeling I might end up being over due, she's waaay too cosy in there at the moment. I've not being to any antenatal classes and my midwife appointments haven't been too in depth in terms of planning my birth. I'm very much in tune with my body and I'll just go with what it needs to do!

@jl2345 lovely bump!!!! 😍🥰

This was me day before yesterday... belly is TIGHT now 🙉 x

HighOnStilts · 13/01/2020 00:55

@lonelyonee meant to tag you in my previous post!! X

HighOnStilts · 13/01/2020 07:47

@lonelyonee also regarding house, totally dont blame you for not moving in until you've got it sorted inside!! We're probably going to get the keys then move furniture in bit by bit, we also need the new kitchen fitted before I'm due and I dont need to be subject to the dust etc so we'll probably have that done when we aren't there!
