I’m going to look when the 20 week scan has taken place. I’m not buying anything or counting any chickens until then.

MyBreadIsEggy · 14/03/2019 13:07

Stroan that’s the best bit Grin
When DC2 was born, DH kept DC1 busy and happy, supplied me with endless cups of tea and snacks and I stayed glued to the sofa, watching Call The Midwife boxsets just feeding and snuggling the baby Smile

Stroan · 14/03/2019 13:09

Names! We have one boys name and several girls ones. DH is Irish but we live in Scotland so wanted something Irish or Irish/Scottish, so that helped get a small-is list. Then something that was easily spelled and works with our surname.

Our boys name is literally the only name we both like that fits all the criteria. And we REALLY love it. It was the name we had picked if DD was a boy. But I'm a bit worried that someone close to me uses it or a version of it before our baby is born. It's definitely possible and I'm not sure what we would do.

@mybreadiseggy I know! I can't wait for this time round. I need to find another box set to work my way through!

On the subject of DHs, mine is pretty good. He does more of the day to day stuff in the house anyway and I do the bigger jobs and keep on top of organising everything. Even better, he's going on paid sabbatical from May for 6 months so will be at home for late pregnancy/early newborn days. It's worked out so well and I'm not as worried about the impact on DD (or somehow surviving post-section with a 3yo and newborn by myself!)

3 of my 4 dc have been named on the recent names you hate thread Shock Rude.

Megan2018 · 14/03/2019 14:23

I feel like that too @Karigan195
I don't want to buy anything, look at names, look at childcare or anything yet really. If I catch my mind wandering on to it I panic in case the 20wk scan shows something awful.

I have a definite small bump today though which I keep wanting to touch!

boodles101 · 14/03/2019 14:37

I have a definite bump now too, I feel quite big today. I haven't actually told my work yet and hopefully waiting til the end of the month. So I've got 2 weeks to carry on trying to hide in quite a tight fitting uniform! Aswell as a staff night out next Saturday!

IVEgottheDECAF · 14/03/2019 14:40

Good luck with that boodles!

Karigan195 · 14/03/2019 15:15

@boodles101 how many weeks are you now? I don’t think I would have a hope in hell of hiding mine now

KnobJockey · 14/03/2019 15:18

Names are hard! I like Piper for a girl, which DP said he quite liked at first. Now he's saying it reminds him too much of Billie Piper. No boys names at all yet, although he did try and quote some Swedish name at me the other day- if I can't say it, and it sounds like I'm sneezing, he's got no chance! I also like Noa and Harper, but he says no likey.

The best place I've found for names so far is actually instagram, just searching #nameinspo, it's thrown out a few good suggestions, bit more unusual, which is my style.

boodles101 · 14/03/2019 15:18

14 weeks tomorrow but obviously there's 2 in there, I'm quite petite anyway so I feel like it's really noticeable. Thankfully I work with people who don't take too much notice of anything.

Karigan195 · 14/03/2019 15:30

Gosh um sorry but I’m putting money down that people have already guessed :) two and 14 weeks!

MyBreadIsEggy · 14/03/2019 15:44

IVEgot my dd’s name has come up on those threads a few times as a “old fashioned”, “granny” or “fuddy duddy” name Hmm
Even my own mother hated it at first: “you can’t call her that! I’ve got a client with X name, and she’s about 90!” Hmm

Megan2018 · 14/03/2019 15:48

@boodles101
I expect they are just too polite to ask.

When I am stood up it isn't so bad - but sat down it seems to look much worse!

I am going to have to go and buy some clothes soon though but I hate shopping as it is and can't face it. I just need some weekend basics to tide me over before maternity clothes fit.

boodles101 · 14/03/2019 15:52

I don't mind if they have already guessed, luckily no one has said anything. I'm only waiting til end of March as my DH works for the same company and will be moving job roles at the end of the month, making it just slightly easier in terms of any conflict of interest.

IVEgottheDECAF · 14/03/2019 16:07

Only rude people ask before its really really really obvious

Lavellan · 14/03/2019 16:14

Not only are we going to have to decide first name, but surname too. I didn't take his when we got married. That was very easy but deciding what to do for the bump is hard. He suggested if it's a girl it gets mine and if it's a boy his!

IVEgottheDECAF · 14/03/2019 16:19

Use both? Or one as a middle name?

Easterbuns1 · 14/03/2019 16:23

We're in similar position, well we're not married but dp just assumed baby would have his surname. I actually thinks he thinks I'm joking when I've said that's not necessarily the case. I changed back to maiden name when I divorced so would like to have the same surname as one of my children!

Karigan195 · 14/03/2019 16:30

Same position but I have insisted on double barrelled. You get into difficulties with travel if your child has a totally different name to yours should you split up or need to go abroad separately. Had to change my first sons name be deed poll in order to avoid being questioned every time I tried to get back into the uk

tobeornottobe1 · 14/03/2019 16:37

Hi ladies, I've been lurking for ages and never finished reading to the end of the thread to join! I've finally ready through and would love to join in, I'm 14+2 with DC3. Sickness is finally subsiding and starting to feel a tad more normal.
Those asking about sexing scans, I've booked one as it was £40 plus I get a 4D sneak peak, partly because I have no patience to wait til 20 weeks and also would like to see lil bean again before then!
I too can start feeling movements now, I felt them quite early on with DC2. And I'm also starting to look very rounded already! It's the inbetween stage when people don't like to ask in case you've just eaten too much over Xmas and haven't started ur New Years diet yet Blush

MyBreadIsEggy · 14/03/2019 17:05

If we weren’t married or didn’t have the same surname, I think I’d double-barrel the DCs. Although having said that, I have a very foreign, very difficult to pronounce and spell maiden name with way too many consonants in it Blush It was part of the reason I changed to DH’s very simple, 4 letter surname when we got married Grin

TwittleBee · 14/03/2019 17:50

We double barrelled DS' surname as we weren't married and then when we did Wed we also double barrelled

IVEgottheDECAF · 14/03/2019 18:48

We arent married and dc all have dps name

DustyDoorframes · 14/03/2019 18:58

Mine have my surname, we were going to alternate but when DC2 came along DP thought it would be better for them both to have the same surname, and I wasn't going to argue! They have DP's surname as a second middle name though (just in case of travel issues!)

Ouf, busy day at work and I'm destroyed this evening. Also I think my bump has "popped" (I'm 11 weeks)- I look enormous, and have that full feeling as I think it's started pressing on my stomach etc. Just as long as nobody says anything in front of the kids before my scan on Monday!!!
