I declined my sweep at 40 but was happy to give at a go at 40+5. My MW had really short fingers and struggled to get one in my cervix but could feel DS head lol and found cervix 'favourable' I don't think it was a proper sweep as such - however contractions began exactly 24hours after!

I doubt this will add much at all to @babycatcher411 expert view but the scary registrar who was appointed to talk us out of ELCS offered to write me up for sweeps from 39w "because they do help one in eight women who have them before 40w" and own MW (snorting with laughter) said "yeah and after 40w they help 50% - if you want minimal fuss and interference anyway we wouldn't start poking around with those odds unless you want us to".

Thinking of everyone, so glad to have company on this final furlong. I'm fed up and only 36 weeks but feel (WISH) things to be moving a bit. Sleep is a distant memory between achey back, braxton hicks, acid reflux, crampy hips, sore bump muscles and what seems to be a delightfully timed cold! Do have to finish painting a radiator cover for the nursery and still haven't packed hospital bag though

Doing all the long walks, raspberry leaf tea, kneeling to watch TV, birthing ball bouncing, backwards chair sitting, moving around, nipple stimulating I can, and might try seduce DH tonight.............. after the amount of sleep he's lost because of me the last two nights I suspect he'll be snoring before the light's out but a girl can dream!?

PassTheAfterEights · 27/02/2019 19:03

PS thank you a billion @Gronk27 @SquirtlesMumAgain & @HidCat re the underwear / nightie packing list - sorted nursing bras / tops / pants and going to take my fave PJ's unless we end up with CS in which case DH is briefed to pick up loose nighties for catheter access. Just have to bung it through the machine when the underwear arrives then pack it all up now. Thanks again!!

Gronk27 · 27/02/2019 19:22

@passtheaftereights I seem to remember a bit of a 36 week wobble but at 37 resumed my zen like state apart from crying a lot. Almost like now I’m very much in the could be any day window (38 weeks today) a bit longer doesn’t seem like such a bad thing! I would like another week or so more for DH who is starting his new job Monday (best timing ever). I’m also finishing up a bit of freelance work from home. Keeping in touch consultancy! That being said obviously the alternatives are a bit sketchy as the above convo! Glad you’re feeling better about your hospital stuff. Mine is finally 90 percent packed. My tens machine pads arrived today and finally put my water bottle through the dishwasher and fetched my spare phone charger out of the car!

Sictransitgloria · 27/02/2019 22:14

I’m ready to not be traipsing up flights of stairs with heavy equipment. The other day I visited someone up 6 floors for them to tell me there was a lift πŸ˜‚ and getting up and down off the floor is a struggle these days.

HidCat · 28/02/2019 05:03

@Gronk27 I'm with you on that - 37+6 today and feeling much calmer. The sciatica pain is doing it's best to piss me off but otherwise feeling a lot happier. I'm ready for baby to arrive but also happy to enjoy my last few weeks of pregnancy.

I'm not sure how I feel about the sweep - guess I'll just play it by ear if it comes up. Shame they can't just gently poke it with a vibrator πŸ˜‚

Had a lovely meal out with colleagues last night. 2 people leaving this week and my mat leave starting next week so it was a fab night. Knackered me out though!

Gronk27 · 28/02/2019 07:53

@hidcat Grin that made me laugh! Glad you had a nice evening.

Wineandchoccy · 28/02/2019 08:09

@HidCat ha ha that made me laugh. I had a sweep before the pessary I told the midwife that wasn’t very pleasant she said that was the politest description she had ever heard Grin

melissa112 · 28/02/2019 08:54

@HidCat 'poke it with a vibrator' GrinGrin

Hi Ladies,
I am a lurker. I lurked on the first thread, and just couldn’t keep up but since going on mat leave I have really enjoyed following the thread again. I hate that people are in pain or very uncomfortable but in a weird way it does make me feel better.. sorry ladies but at least we share the same misery.

I just wanted to ask whether those who have had DC before, whether you had an antenatal appointment at 38weeks with the GP then nothing until your 41 week one with the MW?

I’m a bit annoyed because I have lots of questions this time around and my GP could only see me when I was 37+4, he described baby as cephalic but free. I also measured 33cm when it should have been 37-38. I had a growth scan at 34 weeks and it was in the range. Since Then I had a really bad sick bug that lasted a week and I wasn’t able to eat, ADU midwives seemed shocked I didn’t have an additional growth scan booked. Just feels like such a looooooong wait without really knowing whether I’m doing the right thing and with questions/concerns.
Both other DC measured small but we’re fine. Both had meconium in their waters too πŸ˜”. Both went past their due date.

Gronk27 · 28/02/2019 12:17

@dandelionrarrrr I had a 38 week MW app. and next MW at 40 weeks. I’ve had no issues luckily. See what others say, but could you ring your midwife and share your concerns and see what they say?

SquirtlesMumAgain · 28/02/2019 12:58

I think whether it is GP or midwife seems to vary area to area. In Surrey I saw my GP for appointments along the way where it has been 100% midwife here in Northants.
That said I was due to see my midwife at 38 weeks in Surrey (but DS was here before my appointment). This time I would normally have seen my midwife at 38 weeks but would have been the week of my induction with how her appointments go vs my week tick over, so not bothering.

Dandelionrarrrr · 28/02/2019 13:19

the frustrating thing is that, apart from email (non urgent issues only), I have no contact number for my community midwife. I have been told to only contact the ADU which seems very extreme for this issue.
I’m in SE London.
My book says for 1st time pregnancy you see them for 40weeks too.

Harley8888 · 28/02/2019 15:56

So I went for my 37 week appointment yesterday and was sent to ADU for blood tests and turns out my bile levels were high and liver function which could indicate OC. They have now induced me about an hour ago! Sooo not what I was expecting at all as every midwife/consultant appt I've ever had has been completely normal so did not think I'd be having the baby so soon especially by induction...

Sat here in the ward just waiting for pain to start.. with 5 other women who have all also just been induced! Should make for an eventful 24 hours...

Hermagsjesty · 28/02/2019 16:16

Oh wow @harley8888 - good luck! At least your little one will be in your arms soon Flowers

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 28/02/2019 16:21

@Harley8888 Good luck! Hoping it all goes smoothly and swiftly for you.

SharonO225 · 28/02/2019 16:29

Good Luck @Harley8888 keep us all posted x

Angelmiracle · 28/02/2019 16:52

How exciting @Harley8888 that would be a surprise so suddenly! Best wishes for a smooth delivery 😊🌸

SquirtlesMumAgain · 28/02/2019 16:57

Good luck @harley888 - at least they got it quickly. Good timing really for your appointment.

@dandelionrarrr if you don't have a number then call adu if you are concerned. They should be able to transfer you to a community midwife office or something (although maybe a bit late in the day now). They must be used to it if they don't give out a direct line to the midwives themselves. The other option is to call your surgery for clarity - they may know too.

Ending up having another overnight in hospital because of the flu and breathing issues. Only positive is I got to have food here and it was surprisingly yummy! Had baked gammon and mash, and it was delicious.... Probably helped by the fact I hadn't even since Tuesday tea time!

Angelmiracle · 28/02/2019 16:58

Had my growth scan today 35+6 and baby's estimated at 6lb13oz 😭 I'm obviously going to have another big baby. The registrar was the least bit concerned - that's just above 50th percentile now. And 'perfectly normal' according to him. That's about 0.67lb per week from last scan. Will be 9-10lb depending if I go over again. He didn't indicate they'd induce by due date or anything. I am back in 2 weeks. Highly anxious and a bit upset now.

CaseofEllen · 28/02/2019 17:02

Good luck @Harley8888 won't be long!

Sorry you're not feeling great after your appointment! I also felt that way when I expected to discuss induction and it didn't happen. Sending you Thanks xx

CaseofEllen · 28/02/2019 17:03

@Angelmiracle sorry that last part of message was meant for you xx

Angelmiracle · 28/02/2019 17:17

Thank you @CaseofEllen 🌸 Just need to vent to DH when he's home, keep listening to my hypnobirthing meditation tunes to calm me down and hold out 2 weeks when I see the consultant midwife about my best options xxx

OP posts:
Sictransitgloria · 28/02/2019 18:35

@angelmiracle I hope the anxiety and upset subsides soon and the meditation helps. Thinking of you x

@squirtlesmumagain Hope you feel better soon. Also baked gammon and mash - nice!

I need to moan. I am sooooo sore atm and its mainly left groin and pubic bone. It is so tender! Any tips on relieving it? I think I am going to have a nice bath in a min as it is really quite uncomfortable. Definitely waddling now and been having more stabby fanny episodes 😬

MistakenHoliday · 28/02/2019 18:40

@Harley8888 good luck! At least you're all in it together οΏΌ

@Angelmiracle sorry you've had bad news, hopefully they'll go for an early induction. Are you going to ask at your next appointment?

@Sictransitgloria no tips sorry but I'm finding that my bump is insanely tender at the moment. DD is at nursery tomorrow and I intend to wallow in the bath for a large portion of the morning!

I'm 39+4 now and having a last minute panic about labour - as in, how am I meant to do it AGAIN!?!? Have, probably belatedly, downloaded a hypnobirthing CD to try and relax me a little Confused Last time I was in blissful ignorance so didn't worry as much!
