Hope this works....! Here's hoping July is the month for

  • proper bumps not fat looking tummies
  • feeling them move!
OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
skidaddle · 17/07/2007 16:51

awen - someone (suey2?) posted a link to a study a couple of days ago that said there was no truth whatsoever in the old wives tale that heart rate is different for boys and girls - sorry! Great news that all is well though and how cool to hear your placenta!!

mixedmama - your H is a cheeky git and deserves a big slap!

beckle - completely the same with bf-ing and weight - the last bit didn't come off until i stopped bf-ing and could do proper exercise BUT didn't care because I had huge boobs (well huge for me - were probably a B cup)

BecklePhoenixBird · 17/07/2007 16:52

Typical isn't it?! Have still got a bit of a nasty taste in my mouth actually so maybe that's making things taste off too. Didn't have that with DSs so hopefully it will clear soon!

BecklePhoenixBird · 17/07/2007 16:54

Mine were absolutely enormous Skidaddle! They are almost 2 sizes up from normal (which is tiny) at the moment, when I am feeding they go up to about a 34E which looks really daft as I am shortish and a size 8/10!

mimicakey · 17/07/2007 16:55

Eeeeeewwwwwwww! What does placenta sound like and why is it making noises?!

mixedmama · 17/07/2007 17:00

Skidaddle - gotta love him tho, he is just misguided in his efforts, cos he knows that my weight gets to me.

mixedmama · 17/07/2007 17:01

I didnt know you could listen to a placenta, what do they listen for.

Imawurzel · 17/07/2007 17:03

We haven't got anything yet. Still feel it's too early. Will prob go when i'm 7 months or so i guess. My mum wants to take me to a place in bridport, babygear i think it's called.
Even though i've eyed up the pushchair i'm gonna have, chicco cto4.IF it's still arouind then .It's in the sale at toys r us at the mo, so maybe they're clearing stock ready?
I don't know heart rate or anything, mw put one of those hand held things on me when i went.
I want to know what flavour it is, but then i don't want to know.
Dh wants to wait and see.

mixedmama · 17/07/2007 17:11

We couldnt find out with DS as he had the umbilical cord between his legs - I think DH will spend my private room money on a private scan until we can find out...

mixedmama · 17/07/2007 17:13

I am making him out to be horrible today - he isnt really he is lovely.

skidaddle · 17/07/2007 17:36

aw mixedmama you're not making him sound horrible - they all say bad things now and then but they're all lovely deep down. Yesterday I put on a maternity top a friend had lent me and dp said , um I don't think you really fill it, and I said (quite pleased), oh is my belly not big enough? and he said, no it's all saggy round your boobs - he was right as well (didn't stop me wearing it though!)

beckle - lucky you with you huge boobs

mimeycakey - I think it's brilliant that the placenta makes a noise - like something out of a horror film

suey2 · 17/07/2007 18:09

Sadly my boobs are on the up again- my 32H bras are getting too tight. thanks goodness for the bump- otherwise i would be a walking pair of tits.
Don't bananas give you constipation? i was eating a lot earlier on as it helped with the ms, but i got a bit plugged up- limited myself to one a day and upped the fluids and that did the trick.
I have a sneaky coffee each working am too- the guideline is 300mg per day max- tea is 60mg coffee i think was 80mg- but that was instant. I reckon my tall skinny latte is at least 100mg, so i only have one and maybe a couple of cups of tea if i feel the mid-pm droop.

Bouncingturtle · 17/07/2007 18:43

Yep too many bananas can cause constipation, having some trouble in that department so am taking lactulose. Still all horrible and snotty at the moment! So don't come too close

peanutbutter · 17/07/2007 19:21

good news Pecka!

yes i drink 3 mugs of instant coffee a day, or 2 and a diet coke or whatever. I checked it on the ?FSA website and it's within acceptable limits so i don't worry too much. I'd hate to give up my coffee, even though it's only instant - i feel like my head's stuffed with cotton wool in the mornings til i've had my lovely milky coffee .

I feel i should confess to something though . Last night dh and i went out for a very rare meal and I had one and a half margaritas . They tasted sooooo delicious - all zingy and lemony. I even asked for a spoon so i could eat all the crushed ice! I did feel guilty though, and kept my wrap on which covered my bump just in case anyone was watching .

As for weight gain...I'm 5' 1" ish and was already carrying extra weight from ds. i've so far gone from 10st 3lbs to 10st 10 and my hooters are probably nearing the 34 F/G mark. They feel tender and heavy too so i'm really hoping they're not going to get too much bigger... I'm still wearing normal clothes to work - my trousers were all a little big on the waist so i'm just filling them out at present, and my tops are all a bit roomy anyway, but at home i've put away all my normal clothes and am in maternity all the time.

It feels nice too

MamaMaiasaura · 17/07/2007 20:53

skidaddle big aint all that. Was 32/34 DD prior to ds. After b/f stayed at 34G am currently wearing my underwired pre preg 34G (boobs filled out now tho so look quite impressive) butstarting to think need bigger cup size. Waist size before ds was 8. Managed to get back to 10/12 before this pregnancy. Am only 5'3.5 so a short arse to boot!

I would much much prefer to be a nice c/d cup and be able to wear pretty bras.

suey2 · 17/07/2007 21:28

seconded, awen: and little strappy tops in summer.
Bump has grown very quickly this week, put myself on the scales this morning, though and have still only put on 4.5 lb . It's not like i am not eating! Can't WAIT for scan now. Another 2 weeks (21 weeks)

Ambi · 17/07/2007 21:30

You girlies move fast, I cannot keep up. The one thing I was crushed about not eating was whippy ice cream, it because of listeria in the whippy machine (very difficult to clean) DH reckons it's in most foods with high water content,(soft cheese/pate etc) he's an ex food lab tech..

I was looking forward to a nice 99 this summer - but since there hasn't been much of a summer hasn't been too bad (and I'll prob sneak one in before the birth anyways)

I've never really been one who takes to rules all that well, esp when you CAN'T eat/drink/do this or that, my brain works in opposite land and HAS to do what is forbidden. I won't fess up to all my sins but have have the odd boiled egg and glass of wine.

BecklePhoenixBird · 17/07/2007 21:32

Ahh Skidaddle, never had anyone about my boobs before! Shame they will disappear afterwards!

MamaMaiasaura · 17/07/2007 21:42

lol beckle. MIne dont dissapear.. they just sag after Ds said my boobs like a big bottom atm. Dont mind that too much... is when he said they dont hang down so far lol

Loucee · 17/07/2007 22:19

Mixedmama and Abimum - my DD is the same age as your DC, she is currently 17months and will be 22 months when new baby is born. Having same thoughts about when to move her to a bed but have decided to wait until October as don't feel she's ready at the moment. Planning to have new baby in our room or me in new baby's room for first few months so hopefully DD will be nice and settled before newbaby needs her cot!

I weigh far more than you guys I am usually a 10/12 but never got smaller than a 12 after DD and now am a 14 again. I am 5ft 7inch so trying to justify that way!

I am dreading not having much internet access from the weekend as my sister and her DH and DD are staying for the wk but at the rate you/we all chat I'm going to miss a whole thread!

With DD I was advised to drink a glass of tonic water every evening to ease my leg cramps during the night

Hope everyone and their beans are tucked up nicely tonight.

buzzybee · 17/07/2007 23:28

I guess most of you are past being interested in this but thought I'd pass on what the lab told me about the risk factors calculated by the nuchal scan at 12 weeks and the second trimester blood test:

"the nuchal translucency is only one marker and the 2nd trimester blood has four (and both combine prior risk from age) ? so its quite usual for the chemistry to give a different indicator than the nt alone does ? often reversing a positive nt screen result (or a negative) which is why its better to take all the markers together if possible (better screening, lower false positive or better detection or both)."

buzzybee · 18/07/2007 00:51

Oh and did you see this article from a while ago on what not to eat? Being in NZ I have no idea how reputable this woman is but it did give me some comfort

www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,,2089968,00.html#article_continue

skidaddle · 18/07/2007 07:53

yes buzzy - saw this article in the Guardian when it came out (in fact there was a whole thread about it on mnet) - completely agree with her - the guidelines are getting ridiculous now, especially as you just nip over the channel or across the sea and the guidelines are completely different.

for instance peanut butter, you feel guilty for having a margarita and a half but that would only be a unit and a half one one occasion which is just fine. Just because SOME people are apparently so stupid that they don't know the difference between one or two units occasionally and drinking themselves into a stupor every night, everytime a pg woman has a sip of wine everyone wants to jump down her throat
So don't feel bad and glad you enjoyed it!

Nbg · 18/07/2007 07:55

Congrats to JARM for winning the cottage comp!

skidaddle · 18/07/2007 07:55

awen I know big isn't all that but struggling to fill an A-cup is not a situation anyone wants to find themselves in!! Agree that a nice C-cup (or even B would do) is ideal

skidaddle · 18/07/2007 07:56

what's the cottage comp??
