Hope this works....! Here's hoping July is the month for

  • proper bumps not fat looking tummies
  • feeling them move!

great news Nbg!!! a little boy and good to know he is well-endowed even at such an early age

pecka - why not - go for it - an excellent anniversary present if ever there was one.

beachbunni - I have seen that book babyproofing your marriage - the way it is writen is quite irritating (to me at least) but my friend who has not yet had a baby but is planning to soon found it a godsend as it addressed all her anxieties so it might be worth a look. Mind you, you sound like you have your head quite sorted out so maybe you don't need it!!

Nbg · 13/07/2007 15:18

Do it Pecka!!!
Do it do it do it!

Boys names are hard

claraq · 13/07/2007 15:41

Skidaddle - yes I think we have to keep thinking of the benefits in having two children relatively close together but not so close that the older one is still a "baby". I am going to have a go at potty training in the next few weeks and see what happens - that would certainly be one weight off my mind. Are you potty training yet? The next thing will be getting her in a bed! But she has been ill today and clung to me all day long (have managed to get her to sleep on our bed, hence am able to get on internet)- I keep wondering how I will cope when I have a baby which hangs off me all day as well!

The Lady - thanks for the tips about thrush. Someone mentioned yoghurt but not sure if they meant to eat or - ah-hem - PUT somewhere???!!!

Pecka - my advice is NOT to have the gender scan; but that's only because we don't want to find out the sex at our 20 week scan next week (well I desperately DO but we have decided not to to give us more of a suprise on the day!). (Although if I did at least I would know what colour to paint the baby's room and could stop worrying aboutone set of names at least!)

PeckaRolloverAgain · 13/07/2007 16:26

Booked Now have to tell DH and also just realised its at 11am and he is working ngihtshift on sunday night! oops!

Would it be terribly deceitful to go alone and have it as my own secret?

suey2 · 13/07/2007 16:29

pecka, you meanie! Depends on your DH i suppose, but mine would be gutted to miss a scan

skidaddle · 13/07/2007 16:33

claraq - my dd has just moved into a bed (toddler one that converts to full size one fomr Ikea) and she loves it. She looks so sweet all cosy under her duvet and has only escaped once which was after a daytime nap - we were downstairs having a coffee and suddenly in she toddled!!! I think she didn't like being caged up in her cot and now that she knows she can escape whenever she wants to she doesn't feel the need anymore. So I would highly recommend it (also don't want her to think that new baby is stealing HER cot so will put it away for a few months now).

Don't think my dd is ready for potty training yet and i have learned from the experience of others that the longer you leave it the easier it is. Good luck with your dd though and let me know how you get on (possibly on the potty training/nappies forum - not sure how interested everyone else would be in our dds' poos and wees!!)

Re thrush and yoghurt - think you just smear it on

skidaddle · 13/07/2007 16:34

what, would you never tell him pecka? Or just tell him when you got back? Don't think I would ever be forgiven if I did that!

Loucee · 13/07/2007 16:44

Nbg Congratulations on your scan, you're half way there now . We're not finding out the gender but I am itching to!

MotherofZ my DD will be 22.5mths old when this baby is due, I do have moments of panic but have also been sharing Skidaddle's line of thinking that although it will be hard work at the beginning I'm hoping they will be very close growing up. DD has never been a great sleeper either so I figured we might as well have all the sleepless nights together at once!

Loucee · 13/07/2007 16:47

Skidaddle, just saw that you've put DD into a toddler bed. I was in IKEA this morning and looked at the wee beds. They have quite a good selection and think we'll get one this weekend but not move her until a couple of months time.

Pecka, I wouldn't go for the scan alone - they are so special at this stage that your DH would miss out

BecklePhoenixBird · 13/07/2007 17:14

Hi all, looks like you've all had a busy week! Had a nasty migrane Monday and had headaches all week since - grrr... so been trying to stay off pooter as that makes it worse! Got my results back from my Triple Test and they are low risk for Downs and Spina Bifida so that is reassuring. Getting quite fat now too, bump is probably a little bigger than yours at the moment Pecka and we are due the same day! A few people have commented on the size of it but TBH I think it is because I am fairly small and am very short in the body (long legs though!) so baby has nowhere to go but out!
As for Thrush I had it very badly to begin with and had some bleeding which the MW said was probably due to irritation. Hope you get yours sorted MacDoodle, in the end I used an internal cream which the doctor prescribed, had to use it for 2 weeks which was a bit yuk but it has not returned (touch wood).
I am planning on BFing this baby. With DS1 it really was painful to begin with and my nipples cracked but I persevered and afrer a few weeks it settled down and was easy. With DS2 it hurt but not as much or for as long and I'm really glad I did it with them both, its so much easier in the night than having to make/warm a bottle while you are so tired and LO is crying and grumpy!

JARM · 13/07/2007 17:48

WOO HOO NBG! Another boy- you lucky thing! Names???

Pecka - we are doing a private sexing scan in august - but 4D and they say you need to be 24 weeks for that one..... i dont mind waiting though!

Up to you re DH but mine would hit the roof!!!

JARM · 13/07/2007 17:49

Loucee - the age gap will be a breeze - ive got 15 months between my first 2 and there will be 2yrs 1 month between DD2 and this baby!

IF i can do it - anyone can! Congrats!

macdoodle · 13/07/2007 18:12

Just had a sneaky listen to baby's heartbeat with doppler at work (was too scared to do before as only 16+2 weeks) but there it was loud and strong about 140 beats did someone say before that means a boy

JARM · 13/07/2007 18:26

macdoodle - i personally believe anything lower than 155 bpm is a boy, but i could be wrong lol

PeckaRolloverAgain · 13/07/2007 18:28

I had a listen in to mine last night and it is still 155bpm so Im thinking girl.

Guess I will find out on monday!

thelady · 13/07/2007 18:38

Puts scientist's hat on (temporarily) while munching yummy chilli courtesy of a chef I know well....

fetal heart rate and gender. However, anecdotally, it does seem that some mums just "know" which they're having.

Tadpole's heartbeat was at 176 bpm on Thursday - apparently doing gymnastics despite my inability to feel anything at all.

One bit of very good news for me: a friend has offered me her cot and moses basket. I'm giving her and her hubby dinner at the hotel as a thank you - barter is great!

macdoodle · 13/07/2007 18:40

Sneaky admission - (D)H OW is having girl I already have a girl - I know (D)H and MIL would like a boy in the family - is it terrible of me to want a boy to go one better than her
Personally I don't really mind either way - but not planning any more kids (and certainly not with this twat) so one of each would kinda be nice and a boy would really steal her thunder

Housemum · 13/07/2007 19:38

Hi all - have only skim read as have been busy today and the weekend is manic, so sorry no personalised comments!

Have decided this little one must be a boy as it's being blooming awkward. At nuchal scan, it stubbornly turned its back and took lots of jiggling to show its neck so she could measure the fold. Today had MW appt, and it was hiding so it took ages (and tons of gel) to find the heartbeat - briefly heard it then it disappeared again, so she spent ages chasing the little b*ger.

All well - blood pressure OK, heartbeat heard (eventually). I asked how I could ensure that I got out of hospital ASAP as I don't like them and the MW said, "have a home birth". Almost fell off my chair - I'm 40, previous section, poss Group B strep carrier - thought that counted me out but she said not. Can just see DH going for that one (not!). Cream carpets + home birth = insurance claim for cleaning??!!

DD2 was v sweet today - she had her friend to play, who asked if I would have the baby before Christmas - DD2 said it might be before or after, or even on Christmas Day - then she turned to me and said "if it's borned on Christmas I'll share my presents with the baby and help it unwrap them". Aaaahhhhh....

MamaMaiasaura · 13/07/2007 21:54

NBG fab scan. Is nice to be able to refer to your bump as him now I bet.

We are probably going to find out the sex of this little one. I have yet to hear heartbeat. Hopefully will on tuesday. I already have a ds and when pregnant with him I ate alot of meat. With this one I am loving citrus fruit, especially oranges. Drinking lots of OJ & sprite mixed up. Also loving cheesy wotsits and carbohydrates & fruit. Wonder wether a little girl. DP wants a girl (daddys girl) I dont mind, although if a boy might get a number 3

peanutbutter · 14/07/2007 08:10

Awen - i was concerned to see your post yesterday; are you feeling better? hug

nbg - congratulations on the scan! i'd be very pleased with another boy so i'm hoping we're as lucky as you and the sonographer can confidently tell us the sex

Ds will be 2.3 when this new one comes and i'm also flapping about extreme tiredness and coping with a tantrumming toddler. I'm just trying to brace myself for an awful 3 r 4 months and keep trying to see the bigger picture...

BeckleSpeckle - glad to hear about the great results , that must be very reassuring. Just 3 weeks til mine.

peanutbutter · 14/07/2007 08:11

whoops! that's not supposed to be a link!

buzzybee · 14/07/2007 08:11

I have great news!!!

My maternal serum (blood test) results came back at 1:660 for chromosomal defects (like DS) and 1:2000 for neural (like SB). I feel vindicated but my stubborn refusal to believe the 1:21 from the nuchal fold scan. My mw is booking me into Wellington hospital for asap after 18 weeks for a detailed scan and hopefully that will be even more positive! Plus I get the find out the sex (probably) 2 weeks earlier than normal.
Might also look into getting the 4D scan privately at 24 weeks.

DD and I had such a cool day today too. The local pet shop had an Aqua Fun Day so we bought a tank and some fish - they look great! Then met 2 other MNs for the first time at the local museum and we had a great time there too (hi to Zoej and Welliemum if you see this!) before DD and I headed up to the zoo, which had lots of cool stuff on because its school hols (made up for the cold!) - we saw the cheetahs and pelicans being fed and a baby serval kitten going for a walk on a lead.

Sorry can't stop smiling!!

claraq · 14/07/2007 09:06

Skiddaddle - We have just bought an extending IKEA bed too!! It's currently sitting on the floor in pieces but might try and put it together this weekend. It's the white metal one - is that the same as yours?

With potty training, you are probably right about leaving it but I thought this summer could be the "window of opportunity" we need, as I don't want to do it too soon before or after the baby is born...If it doesn't work I will try not to stress and leave it a while. Trouble is I am having more and more difficulty pursuading her to wear a nappy - she is happiest running around starkers!

There is lots of good news on here about scans and results and things, which is great. We're not going to find out the sex but if I were to guess I would say boy as it has been so different from my last pregnancy. A lot more awkward this time!!

kerioke · 14/07/2007 10:00

hope no one minds!

kerioke · 14/07/2007 10:13
