I was only tested for gd last time as it showed up in a urine sample at a regular midwife appointment. The consultant wasn't happy that I hadn't already been tested due to strong family history of t1 and t2.
This time I've been tested regularly since 6 weeks and am consultant led through the diabetes clinic. My gtts have been negative so far but I've also been testing my gl a few days a week and if I don't eat as if I already have gd then they're high.

CrazyCowLady · 14/02/2019 12:29

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut - you are usually only screened for GD if you have 'risk factors' for it. These can change with each trust, but they are usually:

  • BMI over 30 (sometimes over 35)
  • Immediate family history of diabetes (your parents/ brothers/ sisters)
  • Previous GD
  • Some ethnicities (think Asian might be one, but cant fully remember!)
  • Previous baby over 4.5kg
  • 2 episodes of sugar in your urine this pregnancy
  • Big baby this pregnancy (usually found later on with growth measurements and scans)

Think they are all the risk factors for it, but I'm sure someone will have invented more! I doubt she will offer you a GTT for eating so much sweet things (but it might show up in your urine if you have eaten that many sweets!!). Fingers crossed you don't have it - as I'm sure many people have said (and suggested), its a ball ache!!

Also really pants about house things, sorry x

hexagon01 · 14/02/2019 14:34

Oh Paul what an absolute shit situation with the house. It’s stressful selling a house anyway but that’s just too much! Hope you get another offer soon.

hexagon01 · 14/02/2019 14:40

It’s interesting reading all of your lazy husband stories as I think I’m the lazy husband in my family Blush my boyfriend does most bedtimes and most chores really! Though I cook most nights and do the laundry, plus the big planning stuff so I’m not all bad. But still.

Fabuluce · 14/02/2019 15:54

I'm having a GTT which is a real ball ache as I hate not eating regularly and, as far as I can see, it's only based on my Dad getting diabetes type 2 aged 80 (and we're pretty sure that's because he decided to do the Atkins diet badly). Everything else is fine dammit. I want the right to eat cake if I fancy it on occasion.

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut that is miserable, I really feel for you. X

toomanyflatwhites · 14/02/2019 16:54

Just to add to the partner moans - I have been off work today and can't really explain it but my whole body feels so heavy I can barely move, yet DP insisted we still go to a mortgage appointment at the bank together which involved me leaving the house, walking 10 minutes to the tube, travelling to a very busy area (though not far away!) and sitting through an hour long a discussion about our finances - despite me telling him I wasn't up to it 😡

Kescilly · 14/02/2019 17:29

Just checking in, this thread seems to have dropped off my list!

We were meant to go away this weekend but I’ve gotten ill. So there goes all hope of a babymoon. I haven’t been able to sit and do the stats for this group but I will once I’m feeling a bit better.

rollerskaterdata · 14/02/2019 19:25

@hexagon01 I'm the same, I do the mental work (planning, finances etc) and DH does the physical stuff!

Kescilly · 14/02/2019 22:19

I haven’t felt the baby since this morning. I wasn’t tracking movements yet as I thought I wasn’t supposed to until 28 weeks, but I’m starting to get worried.

OP posts:
rollerskaterdata · 14/02/2019 22:46

@Kescilly I've been in with reduced movements twice already and I'm 25 weeks. Any time you are worried do not worry at all about getting checked out, midwives are happy to do it and chances are very likely everything is fine. For your own piece of mind and to ensure the health of your baby I would go in. I'm sure bubba is perfect and is just doing what mine has done before (turned inwards so I can't feel her moving!)

rollerskaterdata · 14/02/2019 22:53

@Kescilly also forgot to add, as far as I'm aware advice has changed about waiting until 28 weeks to track movements (at least in my area!). Once you start feeling baby move if you're ever concerned at all, I've been told to go in x

Kescilly · 15/02/2019 00:02

Thanks @rollerskaterdata! We did end up calling and then going in. She found the heartbeat straightaway so that was reassuring. I still haven’t felt anything so I’m hoping I will later tonight or in the morning.

She did say that I have an anterior placenta so might not feel movement as much. But I’ve been feeling quite a lot lately so I’m not sure why that would suddenly decrease because of the placenta.

Either way, reassured for tonight. Hope that baby is more active tomorrow.

OP posts:
coastergirl · 15/02/2019 06:52

@Kescilly hope you're ok and baby is more active now. I'm only 21 weeks and the movements are still pretty subtle. Definitely no pattern here yet.

I'm going crazy being stuck in with my little boy who has chicken pox. He's been lucky in that he doesn't appear ill at all, and although he's got a lot of spots, they aren't bothering him too much. But this means he's high as a kite from being stuck in, and I'm permanently exhausted. Ugh.

Also starting to feel like this baby is stretched out as much as he possibly can be! I'm so uncomfortable. He's pushing right down on my bladder and I feel so much pressure in my lower abdomen, it feels horrible. But also often feel like my lungs are constricted. So weird and completely different to my last pregnancy.

Moan over. As you were.

Fizzytonicplease · 15/02/2019 07:39

Hi ladies can i join, im due 29th june. I have been holding off joining until we had our 20week scan and all was ok. This is baby number 2

socktastic · 15/02/2019 08:20

Just had a pregnancy meltdown.
No bread, enough milk only for the toddlers cereal. I'm starving. Dh went to the coop just yesterday and I'm sure I mentioned bread and milk. He's working from home today so I've forced him to get up, get dressed and go to coop again! Might fell him to pick me up a bacon roll instead!
Not had a rant quite like this one yet!

rollerskaterdata · 15/02/2019 09:50

@Kescilly glad everything is fine, it nearly always is! Never be afraid to go in if you ever have a concern. I'm a worrier anyway so I know if I didn't go in I'd be worrying - might as well go in for the half hour or so of monitoring to put the mind at rest. It's true what they say, the worrying starts in the womb and just increases once they're born and they get older!

@Fizzytonicplease welcome! We've 'met' on the TTC #2 board, so glad to have you over here too! How was the 20 week scan?

@coastergirl rant away! I hope you're little one feels better soon. Mine is 4 and still hasn't caught the chicken pox yet is it silly I'm worrying about that?! Will it be worse for him the older he gets, or even worse could the baby catch it when she's born if he gets it then?!

@socktastic a lack of food right now is enough to make me emotional too! I got very upset last week when my fave burrito place wasn't doing deliveries because of the weather, I actually could've cried!

Changingagain · 15/02/2019 09:54

Does anyone else's mind keep flipping between, "it's far too long to wait", and "fuck, there's not long left!"?

coastergirl · 15/02/2019 09:57

@rollerskaterdata I think it can be worse when they are older, but there is a big variety in how much they suffer regardless. C seems fine and is driving me batty.

@Changingagain nope. I just feel like it's way too long to wait. I want my body back! Selfish I know. I'm very bored atm.

toomanyflatwhites · 15/02/2019 10:00

@socktastic sounds TOTALLY reasonable to me!!
Speaking of getting checked, I have just been to the doctor to get checked over as after weeks of cough and cold I suddenly started to feel weird and totally exhausted on Wednesday afternoon. Probably already talked about this so sorry for repeating myself!! But just bone tired and body feels heavy etc - wanted to rule out anything worrying. Saw v nice young doctor who gave me very thorough check and all seems fine and probably post-vital but being sent for blood tests too to be on the safe side so have got to trek to the hospital for that. Otherwise I think rest will be the cure so am including the coffee and almond croissant I just had as part of that important treatment and will then spend as much of the day laying down as I can manage! DP away again for work from Wednesday to the following Monday so I need to get some energy back before then. Good thing I'm not too busy at work and have (almost!) no qualms about being off to recover.

Torsz · 15/02/2019 10:10

@Changingagain yes!! I'm loving being pregnant but also can't wait to meet baby, and we currently have no kitchen/lounge/nursery so need to get all that sorted before she comes along ☺️ I'm just wishing away the next couple of months!

rollerskaterdata · 15/02/2019 10:22

@Changingagain I'm totally wishing away the next few months. Every week - heck, every bloody day has dragged for me since the very beginning and I can't believe I'm only 25 weeks with 15 left to go! It needs to hurry up already, I desperately want my body back too (although I want her to be full term more so I'm sucking it up!)

@coastergirl cripes, I hope my DS gets it soon (weird saying that!). My DS also goes nuts when he hasn't been out all day so that'll be fun

Fizzytonicplease · 15/02/2019 10:36

Hi @rollerskatadata scan went really well, we havent found out what we are having. Little one is very active tho. How are you feeling?

fee1234 · 15/02/2019 11:13

I'm also wishing away the months but worrying there's not enough time to do everything!

Feeling strong kicks - I actually pushed down on the spot he was kicking and we met half way as he was kicking back, it felt so weird like we touched or something!

Caved and bought a maternity jacket from H&M, was only £20 in the sale and it zips up nicely over the bump.

Hope everyone is doing well, I had a nosey through the antenatal threads and it won't be long until there's a November one! Crazy to think we will be with our 4/5 month olds by then.

rollerskaterdata · 15/02/2019 11:13

@Fizzytonicplease glad to hear everything is fine. I'm not too bad thanks, struggling with pelvic pain but I'm seeing a physio which is helping. Doesn't help my bump is even bigger this time round than it was last time, I feel huge already!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 15/02/2019 11:36

Hey @toomanyflatwhites that’s exactly what I had, I too was “post viral” and I’m out the other side now but it was shitness ahoy for the 4/5 weeks spanning Christmas and January.

As the evenings get lighter, I feel better too, maybe it’s part psychosomatic and maybe just time but even if another Beast from the East appears at the end of the month this year I feel a mental corner has been turned now it’s light at 5pm here.
