Good luck LauralovesLuke

PeachPotato · 11/02/2019 08:21

I made a quilt for my first baby so I’d better make one for this one!! My advice is to make it a bit bigger than you think, his is 90cm by 150cm (I think, I could check!) and it means it’s still big enough for him to use as a summer quilt now he’s 5!

Heyha · 11/02/2019 08:33

I'm working on a nursery mobile @kescilly as I have a few sheep and consequently lots of fleeces wrapped up in paper bags waiting for me to get round to doing something with them Blush I like needle felting so hoping to have a bit more time to mess about doing it in the run up to June as I ease off doing the manual work....when there'll be more fleeces because we'll have just sheared again #oops

Heyha · 11/02/2019 08:35

Hope all goes well @lauralovesluke !

I had a rough weekend with indigestion reading to sickness and insomnia so feeling like a zombie today. Good job I've not got many lessons today so hopefully can bumble along- it's still easier to be in than set cover work so I can't be feeling that bad Grin

annihall · 11/02/2019 09:24

Good luck for your scan today @LauralovesLuke

Got a question regarding maternity leave and pay. I know I have to agree to a start date etc with my employer by the end of Feb, but is that also the date he has to hand in the forms by?
The reason I'm asking is that he's quite unreliable with things like that, and I will have to keep chasing him up to sign all the legal bits otherwise he just won't do it. I'm just worried that if he misses a deadline or something I won't get my pay agreed... or is it just important I have proof that I told him on time and he can take as long as he wants?

SassehMonsta · 11/02/2019 10:28

I have had enough, and am so fed up today. Fuck you gestational diabetes, and fuck you blood sugars. Now on 4 units of fast acting insulin 15 mins before dinner, 12 units of slow acting at bedtime, and 1g metformin with my dinner itself. I'M SO FED UP. I also just cried down the phone to the diabetes nurse when she called and she sent me hugs, which was nice. BUT ARGH.

SassehMonsta · 11/02/2019 10:31

Re: crafting, I made DD a blanket from squares that me and some friends made for her (each friend did a few 6inch squares and I joined them and did pretty stuff with them). Each year I try and add to it somehow, so it grows with her. I kinda failed this year to add much, but she loves it and has asked me to do the same for her little brother. I have found a 10inch centre square and just need to ask for 6inch squares as input from friends/family and actually do something with it.

Heebyjeeby99 · 11/02/2019 11:01

Thanks to those for positive info on Strep B, feeling a bit better about it all today.

Could someone let me know how I join the FB group?

Thanks!

SassehMonsta · 11/02/2019 11:22

Send me a private message I guess for the FB group, and I shall have a go at adding people! It didn't work last time but then there were FB issues so who the hell knows :)

Fabuluce · 11/02/2019 11:30

@SassehMonsta that sounds utterly miserable on the GD front, I'm not surprised you're fed up. Does it instantly make you want to eat All The Things? It totally would with me. I've got to book in for for my GD Test and the thought of it makes me want to consume my body weight in sugary shit. Ridiculous but true.

I'm very impressed with your crafting skills. That sounds amazing and so wonderful for your children to keep.

SassehMonsta · 11/02/2019 11:40

Thanks @Fabuluce. Yes, I want to eat all the custard filled doughnuts, ever. And all the roast potatoes, the white bread, and the starchy carby goodness of pasta. I can have a small amount of each, but never enough to curb my cravings for them! I know the feeling - tbh, if I had thought about the GTT more last pregnancy, I wouldn't have spent a week away with DH eating desserts constantly....!

Heebyjeeby99 · 11/02/2019 15:34

@SassehMonsta thanks, will do!

Pigriver · 11/02/2019 18:26

I crocheted a blanket for ds and have started a new one for this baby. DS was a winter baby so I made loads of hats and things but doubt we’ll need any for a while.
I also like to sew so may make some harem joggers or dungarees even though we have enough clothes!

LauralovesLuke · 12/02/2019 06:47

Thanks all - it went well inasmuch as the baby is healthy - as other people have experienced, the baby was extremely wriggly (despite me rocking in the waiting room like a pillock hoping s/he would go to sleep!) and every time the sonographer moved the wand, the baby was moving away like it was a game of hide and seek - the little monkey!

We don't know whether the baby is a boy or a girl, but the measurements for the femur were at the higher end of average and as my DH is over 6' we're thinking boy - anyone with a second baby did you predict the gender of your first based on measurements??

I'm also very impressed with the crafting! And I hope that those with GD you are able to get the support/help you need for a healthy baby xxx

toasterstrudle · 12/02/2019 09:21

@SassehMonsta gestational diabetes sounds awful, poor you!

Fabuluce · 12/02/2019 09:58

@LauralovesLuke wiggly babies are great but a nightmare to take a picture of! Mine kept on racing away from the scanner too. I have to have weekly dopplers at the GP surgery and this baby wriggles away every time - we can hear the baby wriggling but getting it to stay still long enough to hear the heartbeat properly is a whole other ballgame.

coastergirl · 12/02/2019 10:53

Well, I needed a rest but not sure this was the way to go about it! My little boy has chicken pox. Poor little dude is covered. So we are snuggled on the sofa which is lovely, but means I won't get paid. From what I've read, baby is safe because I had it when I was little so I have immunity.

So much sympathy to those with GD. I had it last time. My 16 week test was clear this time but have to be tested again at 28 weeks. Dreading having it!

I still don't feel particularly pregnant. Only getting little bits of movement. Having just said that, my little boy is laid with his head on my tummy now and I'm feeling much stronger kicks right under his head!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 12/02/2019 12:55

Not good about the CP @coastergirl but thanks for putting my mind at rest re movements; my bump has “shrunk” again and I don’t get a lot of movements, I feel “swoop” and “tickle” but not jabs or definitive movements; have had those before but only now and again.

hexagon01 · 12/02/2019 14:52

My bump is still different sizes throughout the day!

Today I am going through the first batch of applications for my maternity cover and it is soul crushing. Everyone is either vastly overqualified which makes me feel bad for them, or incapable of applying for a job properly. I thought it was basic common knowledge to tailor your cover letter and CV to the job you are applying to?? Apparently not...

stellarfox · 12/02/2019 17:36

Has anyone experience mild cramping recently? I was quite uncomfortable sleeping last night and felt a bit crampy this morning and then it went away once
I got up but feeling it a bit again now. I did try to ring the midwife but I’ve left it too late! Did have sex last night so I don’t know if it could have anything to do with that!? I’m 24 weeks today

rollerskaterdata · 12/02/2019 20:34

@stellarfox could it be Braxton Hicks contractions, or round ligament pain? Does your bump feel really tight when it happens? Deffo no harm in checking with your midwife but alongside no other symptoms I would say that sounds quite normal. Happens to me sometimes too

fee1234 · 12/02/2019 22:51

@stellarfox I had lower back cramping last week felt like period pains. Rang midwife who said to take paracetamol which made it go away, she said if it was anything to worry about then paracetamol wouldn't have taken the pain away. Rested for a day after and haven't had it return since then

Napssavelives · 13/02/2019 03:41

Posting here as have nobody to tell. The baby has hiccups!

Changingagain · 13/02/2019 05:52

Grin Napssavelives that's lovely. It always made me smile when ds got them before birth, he had them several times a day towards the end. I think it must have been 30+ weeks before I felt any though, and none yet here this time.

stellarfox · 13/02/2019 06:36

Thanks both! I woke up with it again this morning so will ring the midwife. Better to be on the safe side! Midwife is always first point of call with these things is that right? I’ve had a bit of trouble getting through before so hope they pick up today. @rollerskaterdata hopefully it’s round ligament pain but my bump generally feels quite hard and stretched so I don’t know. @fee1234 hopefully I’ll get the same advice!

@napssavelives that’s lovely! Can’t wait to feel hiccups 😊
