Please could I be added to the list @Kescilly

Age at Due date: 29
Predicted sex: will find out at scan on Thursday
Location: Cambridge

Anyone else signed up for NCT courses? I've got a 5 week course starting at the end of April. Keen to meet other mum's as this is my first baby and none of my close friends have children so feeling a bit alone!

Heebyjeeby99 · 03/02/2019 20:21

@Kescilly Dress shopping has been interesting....obviously I've told them all I'm 5.5 months pregnant and have been trying dresses 2 sizes bigger but even these were super tight and I just felt so frumpy and grim. I don't have much of a bump but I've clearly put weight on and felt rubbish in everything! Weighed myself at my mum's when I got home and I've put on a stone without a bump! Needless to say I didn't buy a dress....

@rollerskaterdata thanks feeling fine now, results in the next week or so but I don't feel too anxious and taking the silver lining that if there are concerns I'll be monitored more which will at least help with my anxiety.

@mummysuz I've booked NCT, also starting end of April. You're not Essex based by any chance?

mummysuz · 03/02/2019 21:28

@Heebyjeeby99 I'm in Cambridge. Hoping there will be lots of friendly people in my group as my DH will only be able to come along to the first class, he works abroad and won't be in the country till a week before I'm due!

Changingagain · 04/02/2019 07:11

Heebyjeeby99 I imagine even without a bump, that is mostly baby related weight, I.e. Baby, fluid, placenta, increased blood volume.

I've got my scan this morning and there isno excitement left whatsoever, I'm just incredibly nervous. I felt a few little kicks while lying awake in bed last night which is reassuring after a few days of nothing but I still just feel like something is wrong.

Heebyjeeby99 · 04/02/2019 08:02

@Changingagain good luck today, I'm sure all will be fine. I'm 22 weeks now and still yet to feel a kick! I was also convinced something was wrong before my 20 week scan but all was well. What time is the appointment?

Fabuluce · 04/02/2019 08:50

Wishing you the best of luck with your scans today ladies 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

fee1234 · 04/02/2019 10:42

Good luck with the scans!

I woke up at 3am last night with what felt like period type lower back cramps. It was quite sore so after an hour I rang the assessment unit who were really helpful, ran through a list of other symptoms which thankfully I didn't have. She said take paracetamol and she would call me back in half an hour and if it was still sore to come in.

The paracetamol worked and it wasn't as bad, she said if it was preterm labour then paracetamol wouldn't have made any difference to the pain. There's still a bit of a dull ache but she said to have a day of bed rest and take it from there, but she wasn't worried it was anything serious.

Things always seem worse in the middle of the night!

coastergirl · 04/02/2019 11:24

Good luck with all the scans. I'm just willing today to be over so I can have mine tomorrow. Feeling a fair bit of gentle movement today though. It's so weird. I think you forget what it feels like between pregnancies.

Changingagain · 04/02/2019 11:46

That must have been scary fee1234 glad it turned out OK.

My scan went well, everything looks as it should and we're expecting a girl. She was sucking on her toes for the forst few minutes.

Kescilly · 04/02/2019 11:50

@Changingagain here with a handhold, hoping all has gone well this morning!

Will add you when I next update, thanks for the details @

@Heebyjeeby99 I felt like that for a while, just fat and miserable. I'm overweight and I've really worked to get my weight down, so feeling clothes getting tight was not good for my self-esteem. I seem to have happily passed that and moved on to the rapidly becoming spherical part of pregnancy now. I'm a little worried at how big I'll be by the end!

We used to always size women up a few dress sizes and suggest empire waisted dresses. Some of it depended on how pregnant the lady would be at the time. And we had to be discreet, because often a bridesmaid hadn't told the bride yet! I felt bad for one bride, she had something like six bridesmaids and five of them told us secretly that they were pregnant! Must have made for some interesting wedding photos.

Oops that should have said thank you to @mummysuz!

Heebyjeeby99 · 04/02/2019 13:19

@Kescilly I've got the opposite issue in that I'm not getting married until December so I'm trying to imagine myself looking smaller, not bigger. But then it's also tough knowing what size to order as obviously in my head I imagine being a size 10 again by December but realistically I have no idea if that's achievable!

toomanyflatwhites · 04/02/2019 14:18

Hope those having scans today have been getting on ok? I had mine a few weeks ago and was beginning to think we would get bad news but (much) more often than not it's just your mind playing tricks with you...

I'm diving into a week of being home alone with DD and the bump as DP is away for a conference since yesterday. As always I head into the week with great optimism that I'm going to do loads of healthy cooking, great activities/quality time with DD, getting her to bed earlier than usual, having some downtime, and getting more sleep than I usually do. Of course the reality is often very different!!! But so far so good, feeling a bit smug as I managed to do loads of cooking yesterday including getting some stuff prepped for the week ahead, though I was so caught up in all my preparation I hilariously forgot to have breakfast this morning!

Bigonesmallone3 · 04/02/2019 15:19

Hope any scans went well today.. would love to see some pics.. I have my scan tomorrow.. slightly nervous as my last baby had low water.
Not finding out the sex but had a dream last night that I spotted a willy on the scan 😂

Jadek96 · 04/02/2019 15:57

Hi everyone! Just jumping in, due 19th June x

Heyha · 04/02/2019 18:10

Well I had mine today and a night of stressing led to a lovely afternoon! All fine, baby not very cooperative but got there in the end, all present and correct as far as they can tell at this point. Had a trainee again but this time it was a practicing midwife who was converting and they were running early (as were we) so had ages in there while she practiced. Managed to avoid any gender clues as well I think! Had a brief eek moment when she said the placenta might just be covering the exit but she had another look and declared it clear. I was surprised it was anterior though as I've felt movement really clearly for a couple of weeks. They did comment on how busy the baby was though...this doesn't bode well does it 😂

Pigriver · 04/02/2019 18:14

Hi! @Jadek96, welcome to the group

I have my scan tomorrow and have been feeling lots of movements these last few days. My pregnancy was officially announced at work as part of my role was put up for internal cover. Surprisingly some people didn't actually know despite it being really obvious by now!
Got the carry cot for our pushchair from a friend yesterday and picking up a moses stand on Thurs which doesn't leave much left to get (poor second child with all hand me downs!)
Starting to feel very real now!

MadeInCornwallx3 · 04/02/2019 18:22

So exciting all of these scans!

Who in the group has the last one do we thing? I guess we'll have a couple more weeks of them?

I picked up a car seat this week. Needed a cybex aton as already had the base. Managed to get one in the sale at Mothercare £80 from £175 so pleased with that.

Hope everyone is feeling as well as they can be. My main issues are muscle and joint stiffness/ pain. I'm walking around like an old lady already haha x

HoneyPea · 04/02/2019 19:02

Very eventful scan today.
Scan was at 9 so thought we would be in and out quickly being the first ones. Oh how wrong!!! Went with my full bladder (desperate for a wee!) First the US machine wasn't working then they got it working but said they would have to hand record all measurements. So settled down to start (30mins late) put the gel on and the fire alarm went off so had to go and stand in the cold covered in gel Confused Got back in and baby had decided to move into a difficult position but managed to get all measurements and all is ok with baby and still managed to keep the surprise 😊

Have been told I have a low lying placenta and need another scan, not sure when though. Has anyone else been told this? Resisting the urge to google!!!

WeeBean · 04/02/2019 19:23

So lovely to hear all these scans are going well! Mine is on Thursday and I've been bricking it for weeks, people keep saying "it'll all be fine" but I know that isn't always the case! I'm just wishing away the days, booked the day off work for it too because my blood pressure would probably be sky high if I had work stress and scan anxiety in one day 🙈

Spargle · 04/02/2019 19:33

Had our scan today. Baby was very uncooperative, with his back to the camera and hiding everything he could with his hands and feet. Had to go for a walk and have a lot of wiggles.

The sonographer got all of the measurements in the end, though, which was good. And she did manage to work out that we’re probably having a boy. Now we have to choose a name for him! Still, there’s plenty of time...

I really wanted a girl, but I get the impression DH was approximately the sweetest child ever, so I’m very much looking forward to meeting his son. 😁

Kescilly · 04/02/2019 19:37

Glad to hear the scans have gone week today! Mine was uncooperative and we had to go back two weeks later, when she didn't cooperate any more!

I'm also a little jealous of people finding out the sex at their scan. The NHS didn't tell us either time, so I'm relying on an early private scan we had done. What are the odds that they got it wrong and it's a boy? Slightly stressed because we couldn't think of any boy names!

OP posts:
Spargle · 04/02/2019 19:49

@Kescilly no, we can’t think of any decent boy names either! If the sonographer is wrong, though, we do have names picked out for a girl!

PeachPotato · 04/02/2019 19:59

@honeypea - I have this too! I have googled and nearly all the time it moves out of the way (well as the womb grows more space grows between the cervix and the placenta). If it doesn’t it’s a scheduled c-section ahead of due date. I got my date through for a scan at 32 weeks.

Heyha · 04/02/2019 20:05

We've struggled with boy names too but I do think we are team blue...I made a point of saying we didnt want to know and the ladies were lovely (I'm so sad that they don't do actual births at this hospital any more, every time we've been there it's been spot on from receptionist onwards) and said they'd always have a look for you after they've done the important bits if they could, but they did say they weren't in the least bit interested in the sex so don't tend to look otherwise. I guess they might see when doing kidneys/bladder or femurs but they were really concentrating on measuring and checking and you wouldn't have been able to where Mr/Mrs Awkward was lying today!
