Starting a new thread as we near the 1000 comment mark on the Part 2 one!

It is nearly December and I am sure all we want for Xmas are healthy pregnancies and babies Star

Good luck to everyone still here and so sorry for how many we have already lost on the way Flowers

Hi,

I'm just popping in to update you like I said I would.

I'm a bit of a mess really.

I’m done at the hospital.
We saw a heartbeat but baby is measuring 3.1mm. Last sonographer (10 whole days ago) measured 3.6 so I don’t understand what the fuck is going on.
This one said that early preg is really inaccurate.
DP is trying to convince me it doesn’t mean anything and we saw a heartbeat which we didn’t before.
Sonographer said I should go to GP to be referred to EPU to be scanned again in a week. I don’t know what to do. These scans are just stressing me out.

How can the baby be measuring 2mm smaller than 10 days ago? But have a heartbeat?
I don't know what to think. I saw a heartbeat which is what I wanted but 10 days later I'd have thought the baby would have grown a bit. I'd say it seems doomed but there is a heartbeat...
I don't know how I could have got my dates wrong as I know exactly when I ovulated.
None of this makes any sense Sad

Belmo · 20/11/2018 16:38

Hi @Frazzlerock, I’ve been wondering how you got on. I’m really sorry you’re not feeling reassured.
That’s great about the heartbeat! I don’t really know anything about early measurements to be honest. I’d imagine there’s quite a margin of error? I really really hope it’s all okay x

Laburna · 20/11/2018 16:41

Oh @frazzlerock how stressful and upsetting.

I don't have anything useful to say about early pregnancy, but when we were having growth scans on DS it was so hit and miss where they measured. Everytime we went we saw a different sonographer and they would spend ages trying to measure in a place that made him bigger than the last one, it was so stupid. You get one dot in the wrong place and the measurements are completely off from the last set.

It's worth taking some time to think about what these scans are doing to you, can you chat to your MW?

You have to remember that you've now seen a HB, so baby must have developed more since the last scan when you couldn't see it! That is a great bit of news.

Holty99 · 20/11/2018 16:43

Frazzle - the baby is tiny at this stage so a measurement error is totally likely to happen. You have a heartbeat which is great news! Chin up, I hope the wait for the next scan isn't too bad.

Well, despite my nausea disappearing pretty much for the past 2 days I've just had a bout of retching. Strangely pleased. I've had minimal bleeding every day for a week and a half. If I just wiped I wouldn't even notice, but with a forage 'up there' it's noticeable. Today it is evident on wiping though so slightly anxious. I'm on cyclogest pessaries as I'm IVF but I have injectable progesterone left over from previous cycles and I admit I've been self-medicating, just in case. Hoping it's true that you really can't have too much progesterone!

ReginaPhalange89 · 20/11/2018 16:43

@Frazzlerock i've no idea why the measurements would be smaller but maybe just error ? I would say if they found a heart beat this time that should be progress. Did the sonographer say anything about the fact the measurement was smaller ?
Fingers crossed for you

Frazzlerock · 20/11/2018 16:48

Uugghh, well now I've just looked at my dates. I'm wondering if the sonographer dates are from conception. If so then that would make me 6 weeks tomorrow. From LMP will be 8 weeks tomorrow so that would be spot on, right...?

It's so confusing.
I'll post my two scan letters and see if you can make any sense of them....

The sonographers will be doing "LMP dates" Frazzlerock but that varies so so so so much. If you ovulated late it means your LMP dates will be out of whack but go by the sonographers dates as that's what the MWs will use. Also regarding measurements, it's so inaccurate as others have said. It's such tiny tiny tiny tiny measurements, think how small it all is, they would have been measuring from different points too. Last time sonographers might have been measuring the sac whereas this time measuring the fatal pole.

OP posts:
Frazzlerock · 20/11/2018 17:00

He measured fetal pole par time. I watched him do it.
This time baby looked rounder (rather than a tiny white line), but measured 2mm smaller.

What confuses me is I know when I ovulated. Ovusense picked it up when y temp rose. I wasn't ill either. My temp went up and stayed up and I did a preg test 13 days later which was a strong positive. Clear blue even said 1-2 weeks which is 3-4 for LMP. All that matched perfectly. Until these scans.

My head is spinning.
Do I go for this other scan in a week? Or just somehow get through this until 20th Dec for my '12 week' scan?

Frazzlerock · 20/11/2018 17:01

Last time, not par time

Kentishgal · 20/11/2018 17:01

Frazzlerock that's fab news that there was a heartbeat. I second what the other ladies say - it's so tiny the margin of error is huge. Imagine if we all drew a line 3mm long - they'd be so much variation.

babyHP · 20/11/2018 17:20

Hi ladies!

Hope all is well - cant believe we are on a new thread already!

PLEASE could someone be so kind as to add me to the googledoc? I cannot edit it and Ive asked a number of times but unfortunately no1 has added me. Would appreciate it! I am due 21st July (TBC).

Still waiting to hear from the MW - feels like an eternity!

ratherbeshowjumping · 20/11/2018 17:38

@frazzlerock - fantastic news on the heartbeat. At my scan (the day after your first one, I believe) my sonographer told me that it's absolutely impossible to measure the foetal pole to complete accuracy. It's likely the baby is on an angle.
My little bean measured up small but the sonographer assured me that as long as there is a strong heartbeat (as mine was, and yours looks like it is!) that all is well and you have nothing to worry about.
I would definitely go to the follow up scan.
Sending lots of love to you x

TwittleBee · 20/11/2018 17:40

babyHP are you trying the new link in the new OP? As far as I'm aware no one has been added, I just created a new editable link.

Go for the follow up scan if that's what has been suggested frazzlerock . There really is so much variation in these early days. With DS it changed by a whole week time I got to 12 weeks (2 weeks out of LMP)

OP posts:
Delilah7 · 20/11/2018 17:59

@Frazzlerock I can understand how you feel hun. So happy you saw a heartbeat. I was convinced I was further along and measured 4/5 weeks last week. Which I got a 1/2 weeks two weeks before.... I go back for another scan next week to see if he or she's grown and can see a heartbeat. I'd go to another scan if it'll reassure you. Early scans can be very inaccurate x

StargazyDrifter · 20/11/2018 18:34

Oh Frazzle, hope everything turns out ok for you. Remember - today I am pregnant. 😊

I got put back 2 days in yesterday's scan, apparently there can be time between ovulation and conception. Plus what everyone says about measurement errors. A heartbeat is amazing news. I'd definitely go for the next scan.

Holty99 Sorry to hear about the spotting. Fingers crossed for you. It's more common than it might appear. Also could the 'rummage' irritate the cervix and make it spot? I'm no doctor but seems kind of possible?

StargazyDrifter · 20/11/2018 18:35

Also if one scan was private and one NHS, is it possible that one or the other set of scanning equipment is less accurate/older? That could also explain it maybe, Frazzle?

pancakes22 · 20/11/2018 18:38

Hi everyone. Just catching up a bit on new thread.

I am with a lot of you in terms of nausea and eating. I seem to think if I eat everything in the sun then it will get rid of my nausea and then feel surprised why it's not working! By the evening I am looking twice the size I am at the beginning with my bloating. I'm a coeliac and it ends up looking like I've had a reaction and swollen up!! At the moment I am living on soft buttery crumpets in the morning to help with the awful retching first thing and then am also loving wine gums for dry mouth and chips with ketchup for dinner!! I'm normally a mayo girl so this is something new for me! Already put on 2 pounds which is not a good sign! Last time round I would feel sick and rest up and get lots of sympathy from the DH whereas this time I was running straight from the toilet bringing up bile back to my DD to put her socks on pretending all is fine and then back to the toilet before back to finish packing her bag!! No bloody rest for the wicked with these toddlers. I'm afraid the iPad is getting a lot of use at the moment....!

Frazzlerock · 20/11/2018 18:39

Thing is, I understand a couple of days. But two weeks?
When I know when I ovulated?
I just cannot get my head around how they can make that much of an error.

I appreciate your positivity, I really do, but I just cannot get my head around how they can be two weeks out. Not when I ovulated 6 weeks ago and tested 13 days later.
If I'm to believe my new suggestion that I'm 6 weeks today, then I got a strong positive at only 13 days pregnant.
Most people haven't even ovulated by 13 days

Laburna · 20/11/2018 18:46

@frazzlerock I'm not sure what's concerning you about the age? They've got your LMP as the 23rd, the gestational age today is 8w2d and EDD is 30th June. How is that wrong?
Even the change in date on the first scan is only a couple of days?

Frazzlerock · 20/11/2018 18:59

@Laburna because actual measurements show a baby of only 6 weeks 😢

Twistering · 20/11/2018 19:02

@Frazzle, agree with all of the above, a heartbeat is great news and definite progress. :)

Hope you managed to enjoy a bit of the weekender at least.

RooKangaroo · 20/11/2018 19:34

@Frazzlerock, that is such a mind fuck. I'm sorry it's so uncertain and can't imagine how stressful it must feel.

Not sure I can add anything to the good advice above. Definitely get the scan next week if you've been offered it. I know it will feel like forever, but I think I'd do that rather than wait until 12 weeks. Maybe sleep on it and see how you feel x

RooKangaroo · 20/11/2018 19:36

Yay to the good news about scans and heartbeats people are seeing! So pleased for you lot.

Someone said earlier about how weird it is that end-of-July due dates are still trickling in and some people don't have their BFPs yet. I am really desperate for the August group to start as it will feel, psychologically, like I'm so much further on (despite only being six weeks). Think it's something about being back of the queue and no one joining after you!
