Just because I think we’re getting close to filling the first one. Pull up a pew, bring your decaf tea and all of the carbs!

Just to say good luck to all those having scans in the next few days! x

SnailorSwift · 12/11/2018 22:26

Hope everyone is doing ok tonight.

I am in a constant state of mild panic. My pregnancy with DS was difficult and I'm feeling like I'm in no mans land at present. First midwife appt not till Friday and I'm so anxious I just need a bit of a plan to get me through next few weeks.

nicolapj · 13/11/2018 01:40

Hi all and congratulations. My EDD is 11th July. Can't get first midwife appt till 19th Dec so guesswork right now!
This is my 3rd, and at 44yrs old with 2 ds 22yrs and 15yrs, it'll definitely be my last!
No sickness....yet
But really bad cramping similar to a UTI
Had antibiotics whilst waiting on test result which was negative. No spotting and no other problems. Doctor doesn't seem worried but I will be until that first scan.

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 13/11/2018 04:58

@babyHP personally I wouldn’t do the transvaginal unless absolutely necessary as it’s quite invasive for baby. I would do abdominal from about 8 weeks onwards if you feel like you really need the reassurance but if you don’t really mind waiting until 12 weeks then best to just leave well alone really. The reason I’m doing it is because of previous miscarriages so I just need the reassurance all is ok. But if I hadn’t had that experience I probably wouldn’t bother. Enjoy your honeymoon! I’m jealous 😁

@TwittleBee symptoms come and go all the time and each pregnancy is different so try not to worry. Good luck with the scan

Majorly tired here too. Sleeping for 12 hours at night and napping with the toddler during the day and still shattered. Also lost 3 lbs due to the food aversions.

Welcome @nicolapj

KinCat · 13/11/2018 05:23

I feel you all on the tiredness! I was out helping DH with his broken down bike until 10pm last night. So knackered.

I booked my first appointment! I'll be 8+4! I was really worried about booking it cause I'm overseas so not sure what to do but the receptionist I spoke to was so lovely. The Dr will even sign me off work for the whole day!

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken why is it invasive for the baby? Is it because they poke the uterus harder?

TwittleBee · 13/11/2018 06:14

Hi again Barker26 I know what you mean about time dragging!

StargazyDrifter ah least you got to dress up and have fun for a bit, sorry you paid for it though!

Belmo thank you! Btw if its instant coffee you're drinking you can have 2. Less caffeine in a tea spoon of instant than there is in a shot of espresso.

Rose68 thank you!

Oh bless you SnailorSwift I hope your MW app rolls round quick and helps you plan and relax a bit

Welcome nicolapj and sorry you've been having bad cramps! If things get worse go see a Dr again just to see if you can get an early scan.

Thank you allthegoodnamesalreadytaken I will try and relax.

Also allthegoodnamesalreadytaken and KinCat I dont find transvaginal scans invasive at all, I've had to have numerous ones due to cysts and other health issues previously. The prope is really quite short, barely goes up there and they don't really jig it about much. Sex would surely be advised against if transvaginal scans were deemed too invasive? This is just my thinking though, was just pondering about it as should imagine I'll be having one today.

Oh that's brilliant KinCat that you get the whole day off!

TwittleBee · 13/11/2018 06:15

Woken up with morning sickness so feeling relieved that my symptoms have resurfaced after yesterday's worry!

Laburna · 13/11/2018 06:23

I've woken up feeling like I've been hit by a bus 😟

My mum's coming over today to look after DS so I can take the dog to the groomer and vet so no napping either!

How do people cope without an afternoon nap?! I'm already going to bed at 8 with an hour or two in the day!

How's everyone else feeling this morning?

So happy for your sickness @twittlebee - never thought I'd be congratulating anyone on feeling sick!

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 13/11/2018 06:24

@TwittleBee and @KinCat it irritates the cervix apparently. I had one in last pg and had spotting and cramps afterwards so personally I'm a bit wary of them but everyone is different and reacts differently to it

Frazzlerock · 13/11/2018 06:32

Morning all
Good luck today @TwittleBee !!
Can't wait to hear all about it.

Will catch up later. Gotta get myself sorted for our midwife appointment at 8am.
Have a good morning all

Laburna · 13/11/2018 06:43

Hope it goes well this morning @frazzlerock!

TwinkleDay · 13/11/2018 07:15

@twittlebee good luck for today ! X

ratherbeshowjumping · 13/11/2018 07:16

@Laburna I'm exactly the same, I'm always asleep by 8.30 at the moment 🙈 I feel it's such a struggle to get up at the moment, the dark mornings obviously don't help!!

Good luck today @Frazzlerock

Twistering · 13/11/2018 07:16

Morning ladies! Attempting to take myself to the gym, ugh!

I haven’t even called midwife yet. Thought I’d see how it goes with Consultant tomorrow am first. I’m totally assuming that will be transvaginal, I thought that was the only way they could really see anything so early. And they are always v gentle. I weirdly prefer it as I find the whole full bladder thing really difficult!

TwittleBee · 13/11/2018 07:18

Had to look up about the trans-vaginal scans to out my mind at rest and found the Miscarriage Association state there are no risks:

www.miscarriageassociation.org.uk/information/worried-about-pregnancy-loss/ultrasound-scans/

I've linked it on case anyone else is worried.

States on there any bleeding from after a scan is from blood that had already pooled in the body and the scan helped dislodge it.

I do think it makes sense it's safe, no radiation is used (its sound waves) and it's certainly smaller than a penis and a lot less invasive than sex.

That said, each to their own of course and do only what you feel comfortable in doing. Thought I'd share what I found to put anyone else worrying at ease. Ultimately it's better to have the trans-vaginal scans than put your body through the toll of anxiety of leaving it too late to find an ectopic etc.

StargazyDrifter · 13/11/2018 07:24

Thank you TwittleBee, completely agree.

I know someone who has refused all scans in both pregnancies because she had convinced herself they were 'somehow harmfiul', even though there is no evidence to support that. It was an unnecessarily anxious time for her. As you say, each to their own.

Does anyone have an idea as to which first trimester week is likely to be 'peak bad', or is it very individual? I'm 6+1 today and really struggling - tired, but poor sleep, racing pulse, sticky, sore chest. About to leave the house and would so rather be under the duvet.

Laburna · 13/11/2018 07:25

@twistering I thought I was going to wet myself at my 12 week scan with DS! I had to run to the toilet to wee the moment they were done! Luckily, the scan room they used was opposite the toilets - almost like it's a common occurrence 😂. Took forever to do the scan too as they were checking and measuring a cyst!

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 13/11/2018 07:43

Morning ladies. Can I ask you all about weight gain.. honestly shitting my pants right now. I've put on a few pounds this week. My boobs are huge and now im panicking that it's twins! Confused

Delilah7 · 13/11/2018 07:45

@TwittleBee thanks for that! Put my mind at rest for Thursday x x

Laburna · 13/11/2018 08:10

@fortheloveofdoughnuts it's almost impossible to say without a scan, to be honest, but, it's completely natural to put on weight and have ginormous boobs in the first weeks. My boobs grew more in the first 12 weeks with DS than they did during the rest of it. I've put on two pound so far this time, but I know I put on way more last time.

Twins is a weird one because if you Google the symptoms of having twins, it's stuff like, severe morning sickness, bigger weight gain, more tiredness. But every pregnancy is different so you may have 'more morning sickness' but it's just because that's what your body is doing in response to the hormones.

MrsC87 · 13/11/2018 08:34

Eurghh woke up feeling very nauseous 🤢

RooKangaroo · 13/11/2018 08:39

Good luck to people with appointments and scans today!

And sorry to those who are suffering with symptoms. It's such a lovely time, pregnancy, isn't it. Like it's not enough we have to carry the things for nine months and birth them - we also have to experience various agonies along the way too 😑

TwittleBee · 13/11/2018 08:41

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts i read something about how to expect to put on at least 1lb per week in 1st trimester i think, or I could have totally misread that.. i'll Google again in a mo... Just to let you know though I have put on 3lbs so far but with DS I put on a total of 3 stone. I know skinnier people are meant to pile on more.

Actually that reminds me... I read an article, I'll dig it out again in a mo, about how those with a lower BMI I thought to crave more sugar during pregnancy than those with a higher BMI due to their need to put on extra weight and grab more calories to sustain the pregnancy. Also interestingly, those who were found to crave sugar were said to have a very slight increase in having a girl. This then led me to wonder about how, during times of famine more girls are born and whether that then means women with a lower BMI have more chance of conceiving a girl?

Anyway, pure ramblings of a geeky at work with nothing to do. so don't mind me haha

TwittleBee · 13/11/2018 08:43

Okay scrap the 1lbs during 1at trimester thing, I re read it and it is actually between 1 - 5 lbs in 1st trimester. Wonder now if I was confused as I appear to be gaving roughly 1lb a week myself haha.

Anyway...

www.babycenter.com/pregnancy-weight-gain-estimator

That link above is useful, but remember don't be tough on yourself ladies! if you need to eat then eat! Eating does really help combat the symptoms

FocusBear · 13/11/2018 09:02

Morning all. I'm really struggling with the whole weight gain and overeating at the moment. Actually it's been my whole life lol. Ive had to lose alot of weight this year to feel like I was in a fit state to get pregnant. However had regained
stone from holiday and now it's just slowly piling back on. I'm trying to track on mfp and eat roughly 1700kcals a day. Making sure to get my 5 a day in. I think if I lost 0.5lb a week isn't a bad goal right? Surely pregnant woman can still lose some weight. I definitely have it to get rid of. It's hard though because I've read so many things saying don't diet when pregnant but I might end up 4 stones heavier by the time baby comes if I don't try something now. Any thoughts? Too scared to do any exercise at present.

Side note I had the most horrible nightmare last night. I need to maybe monitor what I watch these days as my mind just absorbs everything in to my subconscious. =(
