Just because I think we’re getting close to filling the first one. Pull up a pew, bring your decaf tea and all of the carbs!

For those having early scans how many weeks were you/will you be?

TwittleBee · 13/11/2018 09:07

oh FocusBear bless you. So sorry you are struggling with weight and a horrid nightmare too Sad If you did want to diet I think as long as you are still eating sensibly, like getting in the 5 a day you mentioned and a variety of food sources then should be fine? Would maybe 5 small meals a day help you? That is what I do to help combat pregnancy nausea and appetite.

TwittleBee · 13/11/2018 09:07

MrsC87 I will be 5+4 today so in my 6th week. I'll let you know how it goes.

TwittleBee · 13/11/2018 09:08

oh last time I had a scan at 7+1 and saw a lovely fossil shaped baby with a very clear heart beat with just the usual trans-abdominal scan!

FocusBear · 13/11/2018 09:18

Good luck for today Twittlebee. Let us know how it goes.

My scan is not until Xmas and my first mw appointment until start of Dec. So I'm just plodding along. Taking each day as it comes. Is it bad I'm just counting down the days until a new week is reached lol. Really can't focus at work at all. Just can't wait for my day to be over so I can go home to bed.

StargazyDrifter · 13/11/2018 09:28

Both my GP and EPU recommended no sooner than 7 weeks for a reassurance scan, so I'm getting mine at 7+0. 😂

MrsC87 · 13/11/2018 09:38

Good luck today @TwittleBee & yes do let us know. I'm thinking of booking one at week 9 into week 10 as it's right before Xmas 😊 don't think I can wait until New Year, I'm so impatient.

GiGi18 · 13/11/2018 09:43

Morning all. Hope you're all doing ok and are not too tired. Can't believe it's only Tuesday! I've got stuff on most nights this week, not sure how I'm going to cope because I'm usually in bed by 9!

Called the midwife line to book in this morning and got both my booking in date and scan date, for 17th Dec and 8th of Jan. Was not expecting to get the dates right away over the phone so that was a pleasant surprise! So excited now!

@FocusBear losing 0.5 lbs a week is absolutely fine in pregnancy if you have the weight to lose. I plan on doing the same. I've started tracking in MFP again this week and I'm doing light exercise. I went a little over my calories yesterday but I'm not going to beat myself up over it, it's just mainly to keep me on the straight and narrow. Plus I'm saving a lot of calories by having no alcohol especially over xmas. They say don't diet but I take that as nothing extreme (under 1500 cals for example or the Atkins/something totally unbalanced). As long as you're getting all the food groups within your 1700 cals you can lose weight safely while pregnant. Xxx

Twistering · 13/11/2018 09:44

Mine will be 6+4 by LMP (tomorrow) but I’m under Consultant due to 3x miscarriage and they told me when to come.

TwittleBee · 13/11/2018 09:46

MrsC87 Book one for xmas if you'll be 9/10 weeks, you should be able to see plenty as dating scans happen from 8 weeks anyway! I'm only having a scan so early because of previous CPs, bleeding & having been in a car crash few days ago.

Laburna · 13/11/2018 09:47

Please do not calorie restrict while you are pregnant, even if you are overweight, without supervision/consultation with your MW. Yes, increase your exercise and remain active, or start moving more and eat healthily, but restricting what you are eating could actually hurt the baby, and you.

You can eat healthily with extra vegetables, well balanced meals with slow release energy foods, sensible snacks etc without cutting out the calories. If you are overweight and change your eating habits you will naturally lose the weight without 'dieting'. You don't need to restrict, and shouldn't, unless it's monitored by the medical people involved in your care.

Sorry. Rant over.

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 13/11/2018 09:57

Gah! 🤦‍♂️sorry didn't mean to worry anyone was just explaining in a very clumsy way why I didn't opt for transvaginal. I'm sure it's all safe and fine! Good luck to everyone having scans this week! I have mine in two weeks time when I will be 8+6.

TwittleBee · 13/11/2018 10:01

haha allthegoodnamesalreadytaken dont worry it is the nature of us all being pregnancy plus tone being lost in text etc Smile

SnailorSwift · 13/11/2018 10:03

@FocusBear I feel for you as I've always had to really stay on top of my eating.

However try shifting your mind set from dieting/losing weight to just making sure you are getting all the right nutrients for you and baby. If you are focused on healthy choices you won't put on as much weight. Also seek support from your midwife if you feel you need to.

The estimator @TwittleBee posted is helpful too it puts the weight gain in perspective!

GiGi18 · 13/11/2018 10:09

@Laburna I agree you shouldn't calorie restrict, I've actually upped my calories since I found out I was pregnant. I was having 1,200 but I wouldn't dream of going that low when pregnant which is why I am sticking to 1,500 minimum (and will increase throughout the trimesters). I by no means am promoting anyone restricts any food groups while pregnant.

As you say if a pregnant woman begins to move more and pay more attention to what she is eating then she will probably lose weight anyway. I'm not sure how that's different to actively choosing to make better choices and move a little more to lose weight as long as you have the knowledge of nutrition/what is needed etc. I agree if you don't have that knowledge then best to check with a healthcare professional. And I will also add that this should only be for women who have the weight to lose in the first place, not people who are of a healthy weight.

Delilah7 · 13/11/2018 10:20

Can I also ask - last week I was 5 weeks 3 days and went for a blood test. They've come back at HCG of 1150. Is that good??

TwittleBee · 13/11/2018 10:23

Sounds good to me Delilah ! Article below which shows you are certainly in the range of HCG at 5 weeks. HCG levels vary so so so much for each women and each pregnancy and not too much is really know about why.

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 13/11/2018 10:24

I had my midwife booking appt last week and she said they recommend Slimming World during pregnancy if you do wish to start being a bit more healthy during pregnancy (i'm currently overweight by about 2.5 stone since having DD) so I asked her the question. When I was pregnant with DD I gave up all exercise for fear of having another miscarriage. I really regret that decision as I put on so much weight so trying to stay more healthy during pregnancy and been walking 3 miles every day and doing light zumba classes. I've given up classes like body pump and body attack as they are quite intense. I plan to start antenatal fitness classes from 12 weeks onwards

TwittleBee · 13/11/2018 10:24

Oh and on that note! HCG levels start dropping between 7 - 12 weeks which is why they reckon symptoms start declining too. So hopefully those who are suffering will soon stop suffering (but hopefully wont be worrying about the symptoms going!)

Delilah7 · 13/11/2018 10:25

@TwittleBee I'm so scared they are high enough 😂😂😂

TwittleBee · 13/11/2018 10:26

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken do they have those sorts of classes at local gyms? I really would like to get fitter

Laburna · 13/11/2018 10:26

@gigi18 I'm not getting into an arguement about weight loss and eating habits.

My point was, don't calorie restrict. Talk to a professional.

TwittleBee · 13/11/2018 10:26

Delilah7 they are so high enough! stop worrying haha

BettySwoll0cks · 13/11/2018 10:27

Urgh I just got my booking appt - 17th Dec!!!!! I'll be 9+5. This is going to be the longest wait ever. Sad

I'm going to have to do a private scan at around 8 weeks, I can't bear it otherwise.

Delilah7 · 13/11/2018 10:31

@TwittleBee I don't know what's high and what isn't 😂😂😂
