I didn’t have any NCT classes near me, so I went to Daisy classes instead. I’d recently moved to the area and didn’t know anyone and was terrified of spending may leave alone.

I met so many lovely folk and we’ve all remained really close. I highly recommend finding some sort of class - in my experience, everyone is there for the same reason, to meet other mums.

Oh, and the Daisy birthing classes were considerably cheaper than NCT! x x

hexagon01 · 10/11/2018 07:41

I did Daisy like @Skee and loved it, the people I met have become my good friends. Much cheaper than NCT I think, plus the classes have a sort of yoga element too which was good!

Skee · 10/11/2018 09:01

I can’t quite remember, maybe you can @hexagon01? But I think it was roughly £60 a term? It might be slightly different in each area right enough?

KoalasAteMyHomework · 10/11/2018 10:09

I'm so glad its not just me eating rubbish! Cook all these healthy meals but veg just makes me want to throw up! Normally eat a lot of bulgar wheat and made a nice quinoa salad but literally could not handle eating it. I've been eating so much bread and also crisps and chocolate. Not normally fussed about crisps but I want them all the time now! I have a fairly low salt diet normally so I wonder if its the salt I'm craving.

Holly257 · 10/11/2018 10:21

Hi all currently 8+1 here and the sickness is in full swing [cry] also in Lanzarote at the moment with stemitil tablets that arnt working Sad got my booking in appointment on Tuesday which is exciting anyone else only able to eat salads and fruit or is it just me Hmm

hexagon01 · 10/11/2018 11:21

@Skee yes that’s what I remember, though I think my local Daisy lady has moved venues in the last year so it’s about £70 now here, still pretty good though.

Nowt like violently throwing up immediately before you have to leave your house immaculate because you have 6 people coming to view it this afternoon. Really timed this house selling well 😭

Torsz · 10/11/2018 12:00

@Skee @hexagon01 this is why I love this forum - I just looked up my local daisy group and it's much closer than nct and only £72! Il wait until I've had my scan and then will book on 😀 thanks so much!!

MauisLeftNipple · 10/11/2018 12:34

We ended up telling our 5yo that I am pg today. We were going to hold off for much longer, however because we also had to tell visiting in laws (because I am so ill) I thought it was only fair. 5yo wants a baby sister. In laws congratulated hubby then asked how we were going to cope.

I started a new drug last night (Prochlorperazine) and so far have kept all food down, although it has involved a lot of effort/lying down. Have lost 2.2kg in 10 days.

Reastiepeace · 10/11/2018 12:55

Mauis glad the new drug is helping, I have that to take on top of other medication as and when and it really makes a difference. Resting really is one of the best helpers as well.

So I asked dh to go out and get me ranitidine today as I have horrible heart burn that’s making my nausea so much worse and gaviscon is not touching it. I know it’s frequently prescribed in pg and will ring gp on Monday but I couldn’t last the week end as it was stopping me drinking because swallowing was making me gag. Dh comes home with it and says right in front of dd (7) ‘they nearly didn’t sell it to me because I said you were pg’. Cue me glaring at dh and dh looking sheepishly at dd and saying ‘whoops’. We’re not actually sure if dd was listening or not (she often doesn’t) as she didn’t seem to notice and didn’t say anything.

I would like an nct group of friends but I don’t want to do courses on birth etc. I wish that I could just sign up to a local ‘meet new friends who are having a baby about the same as you tea and cake club’. There’s a gap in the market!

toomanyflatwhites · 10/11/2018 13:10

@Reastiepeace might be worth checking Nct Facebook pages in your area - I'm in london so might just be because of that, but they do actually have get togethers similar to what you described though they are not very structured of course! Just a "meet up" on a coffee shop or similar. I went to a few when I had DD as my NCT group weren't massively close!!

Reastiepeace · 10/11/2018 13:17

Will do toomanyflatwhites, thanks for the recommendation. It must be annoying for people who go on nct courses for the friends to find they don’t gel with their group

toomanyflatwhites · 10/11/2018 13:37

@Reastiepeace it's slightly hilarious that the one person from the group I'm actually friends with didn't ever take the classes as her baby was born early!! She bumped into one of the others from my group one day and they got chatting and she got added to our WhatsApp group, and now she and I see each other regularly whereas with the others we manage once or twice a year if that! It was good in the early months while we were all on mat leave but I certainly didn't find the super close friends some people seem to.

Reastiepeace · 10/11/2018 13:48

I looked at my local group but it was full of ‘we desperately need volunteers’ messages and a fb private group that only have 4 people in. Doesn’t look promising

Skee · 10/11/2018 14:51

Ah that’s great Torsz! How it works out x

Yikes, that’s sounds rubbish hexagon01, hope you’re feeling better now x

I don’t need ow if it would be your thing Reastie but I went to Yogabellies last time too, which is less about the birthing and gives you some gentle exercise, I met some good friends there too? x

Reastiepeace · 10/11/2018 15:10

Skee yes I do enjoy a bit of yoga.

Was lying in bed yesterday enjoying lying flat on my back thinking it might not be much longer until I’ll be kissing the simple things like lying on my back and breathing deeply. Enjoy whilst you still can ladies!

Reastiepeace · 10/11/2018 15:10

Kissing the simple things?! MISSING the simple things!!

Bigonesmallone3 · 10/11/2018 15:47

Had my scan today.. been pushed back a couple days but it's there! It has a heart beat, a very happy little baby is the way the sonographer describes it! Such a relief

I am a new volunteer for my local NCT committee. I haven't made it to a meeting yet as they keep changing the dates. We want to run a Bumps and Babies group but tbh, I don't see it ever getting off the ground as the committee is too small and the area we cover is actually quite large.

Where I used to live, they had to stop b&b as no one could run it. For a while they did have someone coordinating coffee groups. Every 4 months or so they would advertise a meet up in a cafe, for parents with babies between x and x months, and the idea was that you met at each other's houses after that.

I am still friends with my original NCT group. We have moved well out of the area now but still see a couple of the families, and we always have a Xmas party.

toasterstrudle · 10/11/2018 18:16

My antenatal group were invaluable, i love the bond we have. We were lucky. I had originally signed up for NCT and they were cancelled, so these were NHS ones. A couple of friends also made good links at pregnancy yoga. I'm not doing antenatal classes this time as its number 2, but I would like to do pregnancy yoga nearer the time.

Hopefulirishmammy · 10/11/2018 18:21

Hi All,
Unfortunately I think I’m possibly out for now. Had an early (private) scan today, nhs dates me 7.6 weeks, I reconed I was 6.4, but unfortunately currently empty sac and measuring 5.2. No bleeding and still feel pregnant but...while there is a chance my dates are wrong and I’m on a two week wait, it’s unlikely - I’d have had to ovulate v.late and test positive within a week. Will be my second miss at 5/6 weeks, and was my first pregnancy in years. Took a break ttc after a year of no success in 2016. Gutted but trying to keep some hope just in case. At least it means we can get pregnant. Anyway, best of luck with all of your pregnancies. Hopefully I’ll be back or at least be on another bus soon x

toasterstrudle · 10/11/2018 18:34

Oh @Hopefulirishmammy I'm so sorry about your scan today. Keeping everything crossed just in case, it is still very early days and even a few days out can have a massive impact on what they can see. Sending lots of love your way Thanks

Skee · 10/11/2018 18:48

Totally recommend the preggo yoga toaster! x

Skee · 10/11/2018 18:52

So sorry to hear your news @Hopefulirishmammy 😞

I really hope it was a late ovulation and hope to see you back soon. If it’s any comfort at all, I ovulated on or after CD20 of this pregnancy (we only had sex once, so it couldn’t have been earlier 🙈)

Huge hugs, and keeping my fingers crossed for you x x

jacquejacque · 10/11/2018 18:59

@Hopefulirishmammy sorry you've had a shitty day my love. However, I dated a week behind in my early scan and seemingly still pregnant now, so if your own dates were right that means you're only out by about a week. What did the docs say? Keeping my fingers crossed for you love xx

JBCG · 10/11/2018 21:04

So sorry @Hopefulirishmammy - hope you're okay and try to stay positive for now. Thinking of you xx
