HI Jossie.Just to say i came back high risk the other week and went through hell. I went for the amnio in the end- the consultant I had said his risk was 1 in 200 compared to 1 in 100 nationally.

I have every empathy for both of you - I went to hell and back BUT I had massive support from everyone on here so Keep posting

Jossiejump · 21/06/2007 21:24

I've decided not to go through the amnio because I've had 3 miscarriages in the past year and couldn't bear it if something went wrong and I lost the baby just for the need to find out the situation. DH and I decided before the blood test that we couldn't go for amnio if the risk was high as we would keep the baby anyway. It is just such a hard decision and is different for everybody isn't it.

Pixiefish · 21/06/2007 21:49

I had decided to keep the baby as well Jossie but I just needed to know. They look for other chromosomal abnormalities as well and I had thoughts in my head that I had to sort out as regards what else could be wrong. downs was the least of my worries to be honest.

Anyway- I'm sure it will all turn out well xx

Jossiejump · 21/06/2007 22:05

Sorry Pixiefish I was intimating that you weren't going to keep the baby, I'm just scared that with my miscarriage record that I will be that 1 woman in 100 / 200 that miscarries after amnio.

AnnainNZ · 22/06/2007 06:32

Just got my date for my scan with specialist, Tue 26th at 1.30pm. It's dh's birthday, I asked him if he minded having the scan that day and he said "No, it'll be a great day to get good news". Bless! [soppy newlywed emoticon]

MrsJ, Tonysmum,Pixiefish, best of luck with the scans today

Pixiefish · 22/06/2007 08:29

at least you'll know on Tuesday Anna- no more waiting after that. Not a consolation at all I know. Try to be positive over the weekend. Can you go and do something- celebrate dh's birthday or something so you don't have any time to think and ponder

AnnainNZ · 22/06/2007 08:54

well hopefully i'll know, if they find other markers we might just be in a "possible but can't tell for sure" situation.

We are going to try to have nice weekend anyway - go to beach if weather good, go see a film, whatever. Anyone seen Shrek 3 yet? I want to see something quite light hearted but the reviews haven't been that good. Have to sneak out and buy dh a present/s at some point.

StrangeTown · 22/06/2007 08:54

Anna and Jossie - just wanted to say that I am thinking of you and really hope that you both get good news next week.
My very best wishes - x

All is well- at least what the sonographer could see on the scan. Have my scan piccie so shall scan it in to pc and upload now to my profile

Pixiefish · 22/06/2007 14:25

Have uploaded the scan photo if you want a look- it's in my profile

choudru · 22/06/2007 14:47

Congratulations Pixie - glad to hear it went well. Great photo by the way. Mine isn't great - in the excitement of finding out it was a girl, I didn't really pay attention to the photos she printed.

So - did you ask the sex?

Wonder how Mrsj and Tonsymum are gettign on?

Pixiefish · 22/06/2007 15:20

They told me the sex after the amnio choudru and then today the sonographer pointed to the 'bits'

I have RL friends who read MN and although I'm sure they don't follow me round the site I can't risk it so I'm going to keep the sex to myself for now.

RGPargy · 22/06/2007 15:46

Wow Pixiefish, great pic!!! Very glad to hear all is well.

Pixiefish · 22/06/2007 15:59

I'm just hoping that I have an easier labour this time. last time- text book pregancy and horrific labour complicated by my ITP which had behaved itself all the way through the pg.

Am hoping this time that having had trauma during the pg I have an easier labour.

I can but hope.

My haematologist has done a special test to see if i carry a certain antibody. If I have this antibody they will put me on steroids for the last few weeks to hopefully lessen the chances of blood loss etc during labour.
Few downsides to this of course but if it means I don't have to be in hospital and away from dd then I'll do it.

littleoldme · 22/06/2007 16:21

Pixie- great news about your scan. Love the pic. What's Itp

Anna - gald you've got a scan date. Hope you manange to enjoy the weekend.

Pixiefish · 22/06/2007 16:24

idiopathic thrombocytopenia- blood doesn't clot properly.

have had it since I was 16

choudru · 22/06/2007 17:22

Anna - good luck with your scan. I can't imagine the strain you must be under. All I can say is try to hope for the best - after all if you are feeling positive then it will make that baby of your's feel happy too

Pixie - we shall put you down as a surprise then - kind of

At least can you tell us how you felt when you found out the sex? Was it what you expected?

Went to yoga again last night - was very relaxing but did have a few strange positions to get into.

Hang on - RIchard and Judy talking about childbirth...

tonysmum · 22/06/2007 17:24

hi all, I had my scan today and everything appears to me ok and in the right place, the baby seems to be growing well, bang on dates, so we are very pleased . About the sex, the hospital in this area has the policy of not telling so I can only guess...I didn't see any obvious bits but the baby was lying in an ackward position so it was hard to tell, we will just have to wait and see .

choudru · 22/06/2007 17:28

They were doing a feature on 'free birthing'. Apparently it's when women choose to go through the whole pregnancy and childbirth without involving midwives or doctors or any medical help whatsoever

No scans, no antenatal care of any description.

Apparently they believe this is the 'natural' way...

choudru · 22/06/2007 17:30

So pleased for you tonysmum

You don't sound like you mind not knowing the sex too much - another surprise then!

Pixiefish · 22/06/2007 17:37

glad it went well tonysmum.

Choudru- when the midwife told me the sex it felt like a bit of an anti-climax- not the sex but the fact that I now knew. I had guessded the sex and had actively been trying for what I got (BD certain time of the month) but i was just a bit deflated that I now knew.

I tried to persuade dh not to find out but he was adamant he wanted to know. I told him it was the opposite and his face fell a bit- but he did try to hide it- bless him. He really wants the sex that we've got which is a good job really

tonysmum · 22/06/2007 19:13

I am glad yours also went well Pixiefish, very cute picture by the way . I found out the sex of DS during a 36 weeks scan (baby was breach), they didn't tell me but it was SO obvious! and yes it did feel like an anticlimax at the time.
AnnainNZ, good luck for your scan on Tuesday, hopefully it will be just an isolated finding.

choudru · 22/06/2007 19:17

Pixie - the whole anti-climax thing is a lot of my friends' reason for not finding out until birth.

Must admit though, my experience couldn't have been more different. I haven't been able to take the smile off my face ever since I found out I'm (probably) carrying a girl.

I think I'm starting to annoy people
