Congratulations KittyKitt!! I bet she's lovely and diddy!!
Sophia is one of my names although Ive seen it spelt Sofia.

Think I need to go out and get those nursing bras sometime soon oh yes and a question on cot mattresses;
Last time I bought a Coir one - (about £100) - what type have you all gone for and where did u get them from??

westcoaster · 06/06/2007 12:30

Bl*dy Hll at your MW, TA!! Overbooked!!%^? Has she not cottoned on that your uterus might be a bit busy too at the moment? Honestly - sometimes I despair of so-called health 'professionals'.... Grrrr on your behalf (& for that poor other woman who she's cancelled secretly)

I know the system doesn't help them but...oooh going to stop now before I cause a MN storm...

trendaverter · 06/06/2007 12:41

WC I know, she is a useless cow and I can't stand her. When she told me she was flat out, I said I'd go to the midwife unit at the hospital and have it, she said no they won't see me, I said I'd see the GP then, she said no they aren't allowed, so here I am!

She said 'Just keep your fingers crossed you go into labour!'

How nice and chipper of her

But TBH I haven't had it so bad - I can't remember who it was now but someone was having a terrible time getting seen by their GP/MW.

JBM, I got one of those expensive mattresses with the removable bit from mothercare. Well I didn't, it was a gift from my folks, but it seems very nice and you don't need a waterproof sheet for it.

lilKelBel · 06/06/2007 12:45

hello there

wondering how many of us might have 'tried' for a girl or a boy, specifically? I'll confess we did some timing to try to increase our chances of a pink one...and it worked, I guess...!

having a miserable day of it. My MIL has just been critical of me one too many times. She's been here nearly 2 weeks and we only have a small 2 bed house so it's naturally driven me batty. Plus I'm suffering sleep deprivation big time since we had to put S onto demand feeding in order to boost her weight. I know it's only a temporary phase but jaysus it's not fun at all!

re boys names - we had hoped for a girl as I said and the scan seemed to not rule that out, so we hadn't really seriously thought about boys names. That is, not till I was on the c-section table and fully cut open! Great time to panic, eh? At which point, under heavy sedation, I plucked "Marco" out of the thin blue air! And I think I'll keep it on our list just in case DC3 ever comes our way... it's free for the taking though, now

Congrats KittyKit - love love love the name Sophia!!!

trendaverter · 06/06/2007 12:57

We didn't try for anything specifically, and I don't know how other people feel (I think some people have preferences even if they say they don't), but I honestly don't mind one way or another what it is.

DH says he honestly doesn't mind either but he said something about 6 years ago hinting he wanted a girl but he says he doesn't mind now.

riabutterflew · 06/06/2007 12:57

FFS TA! It's not your fault (or the other ladies) that she is overbooked. Maybe she should get another job where her clients won't inconvenience her. My regular MW might be back from sick leave today, not that I'm bothered because we haven't exactly had chance to build up a relationship. I just hope I don't have to see the one that talks all the time about herself and doesn't answer questions. I'm on consultant-led care and I don't have the option of the clinic Mw doing a sweep, it wouldn't be discussed until my appointment with the consultant at 41 weeks, and then only discussed.

By the way. I don't mind if you talk horses but I will be v.

sputnik · 06/06/2007 13:00

Hooray for Kittykit!
nice to see a few more babies arriving.

riabutterflew · 06/06/2007 13:01

I think my DH would like a girl. He has 1 of each grown up with the bitch from hell, and we have two boys. On a practical level a boy would be better (have the clothes and toys already, room sharing not a problem), but saying that if we have a girl I wouldn't be giving her back! (Would like to be able to give her my grannies name..., also my sisters both have a girl and I don't), but I aren't bothered. At least I know what I'm doing with boys bits and pieces etc. He just wants a baby though and is getting impatient!

trendaverter · 06/06/2007 13:03

There have been a lot of complaints about my MW... she only works (at the clinic) 9.30-12 on wednesdays, of course she's going to be busy!!

Plus she is rubbish at time management, she is always late, she forgot to give me a booklet I needed with all the maternity unit numbers in, she remembered today and I said "ooh this might have been useful a few weeks ago..!", honestly, she forgot to assess my blood test results, I think sometimes it's me that runs the appointments not her.

She is retiring in the next couple of weeks, perhaps she's losing it.

hollyandalice · 06/06/2007 13:06

I was so desperate for a girl and was gutted to say the least when I found out I was having a boy! I was sobbing uncontrollably at the sonographer and couldn't speak all day! Some of you may remember my after scan post!! Now I am so ashamed to have reacted that way and am really excited to be having a boy, I just think I needed time to get used to it! I can't wait to meet my little man now !

hollyandalice · 06/06/2007 13:09

Your mw sounds shit TA!! I am so lucky. I have seen two and they are both lovely and the surgery never seems busy. Maybe once the baby is born you should write a letter to the surgery about waiting times and the mw's attitude. After all if no-one brings it to their attention then they can't change it.

trendaverter · 06/06/2007 13:13

A lot of people complained about the MW to the surgery (myself included) and she had a disciplinary 2 weeks ago. Her attitude has improved quite a bit since last time I saw her (when I left the surgery in tears) but she is still scatty and a bit useless (just not as nasty!).

My original MW was wonderful, I loved her, but she went off on maternity leave herself, this new one is just a temporary replacement but she is due for retirement in the next few weeks anyway, I just think I had poo timing

trendaverter · 06/06/2007 13:17

Holly why do you have a photo of my DH on your profile?

hollyandalice · 06/06/2007 13:23

LOL, I do love my very special hairy man!! He doesn't look like my dp, mine is MUCH hairier!

lilKelBel · 06/06/2007 13:23

yeah holly - what's up with the hairy dude? did I miss a post...?

hollyandalice · 06/06/2007 13:29

I was having a crazy evening! Daisy was meeting with bumper the next day and we were taking the piss out of her saying that she was going to be a hairy trucker with a fetish for heavily pg women! I found a pic of my special hairy man and said it was me! I was a hairy fucker (not trucker) for the evening! I saved the picture for the memory! The whole story is on this thread about halfway down if you want to be amazed by our silliness!!

familygirl · 06/06/2007 13:46

Just had AN appointment, but with different midwife as mine's on holiday. She was friendly enough, but didn't feel the baby/ my tummy-does this seem a bit weird? I thought they always did that and she's written Ceph Long 2/5ths palpable...how does she know if she's not felt it?

trendaverter · 06/06/2007 14:07

Another bloody useless MW

familygirl · 06/06/2007 14:09

Running late by 45 mins so my guess is she was tie saving-doesn't exactly fill me with confidence but thankfully I've been seen enough times because of various other problems that I'm not too concerned-just a bit miffed.

familygirl · 06/06/2007 14:10

sorry, time saving

trendaverter · 06/06/2007 14:50

Is anyone else watching BB? Am I the only one that wants to bash some heads together?

trace2 · 06/06/2007 14:53

TA sorry about your sweep your mw sounds like shes not intretsed in any of her ladies are you just under mw care and not at hospital at all?

Seansfatlass · 06/06/2007 15:00

Woo Hoo! Well Done Daisy! Way to go! Am really pleased!

AND Big Congrats to KittyKit too!

Well another busy hospital day for me. I am now booked in for an induction next thursday (14/6/07) BUT Even more monitoring in the meantime as my bile acids have doubled and are now 117! Actually got to see my consultant (rather than a registrar) who has said that if the bile acids increase she will bring it forward.

Am off to have a snooze before DM brings DD back as incredibly tired....... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

trendaverter · 06/06/2007 15:03

Just MW care for me, I don't have a consultant - which I guess in a way is a good thing.

riabutterflew · 06/06/2007 15:10

Glad you are still around SFL. Take care.

Just got back from my AN. Saw the MW I didn't want to see but she was better today (also she is very likely to be on holiday for the big event so that cheered me up too!). No announcements of imminent birth though! BP slightly up again, have to have it checked out on Friday and rest, but I AM NOT going to rest as much as I did the other week and make myself ill!!!. If I stick to knowing my own limits I'll be much better. Anyway, if I get the living room a bit tidier before bedtime DH might be on a promise and things might get going! (Who knows, he's so pissed off with work he might even stay at home to look after me? I DON'T THINK SO!)
