Evening Ladies

Thanks for the info on the abbreviations gingermumi ? everything makes more sense now !

Sorry to hear TJ?s news ? glad to hear most people are feeling ok (within reason!) I?m 6wks+ 5days and still not had any sickness - I sound pretty lucky (so far!!)

Me & hubby have now told 6 people in total ? just close friends who we socialise with ? it?s good not to have tell porkies as to why we aren?t out and obviously good to have someone to talk too for both of us! We?ve decided to wait telling the folks ? I imagine there?d be nothing worse than asking your mum to keep it to herself that?s she?s going to become a grandma for the 1st time ? we going to wait a while - Who has everyone else told to date!?

Can I ask how the scans work ??? I note some people have had them at 7 weeks ? Ive an appointment next week with the Midwife ? which I assume will be a bit of a Q&A and a feel ! Do I get booked in for a scan after that at 12 wks??

Cheers

I think some are private scans or extra early scans because of previous m/c history / other problems. What you're offered depends on local health trust, probably a 12 wk dating scan, and a 20 wk abnormality scan. Nothing else unless a problem comes up.

DH + I haven't told anybody. We expect some horrified reactions. I get waves of bad nausea, someone noticed last week at a toddler group and kept saying "Are you okay?". It was so kind of her, but I didn't feel right telling her before the prospective grandparents.

I've had bra trouble -- A bra the "right" size gives me indigestion and extra nausea, anything loose enough to feel almost comfortable falls off. Wore an old sports bra that has lost all its elastic today. Better than nothing, I guess.

gingermumi · 18/06/2007 22:26

Congrats and welcome to newbies.

Holty - I had private scan as I am old and have a fibroid the size of a football (not quite - but feels like it).It reassured me all is ok at moment. Some health authorities give an early scan if you have had problems as lljkk says. Apart from that our system offers either a dating or nucal scan at 12 weeks and an anomaly scan at 20 weeks when you can find out the sex if you want to. A nuchal scan will look for probabilty of chromosomal abnormalities like downs syndrome. You do not have to have this screening if you don't want to.

Like miniandme i want to know the sex so I can go shopping soon . We have told immediate family and a couple of close friends who knew we had been trying for a baby. Decided to tell family partly because dds can't contain themselves and partly because if anything went wrong they would know anyway and we'd need their support and understanding. It's a very personal thing and you must do what is right for you.

rozzyraspberry · 19/06/2007 07:52

Morning all.

We haven't decided whether we'll find out the sex or not. We've never before but we'll see. I've heard a few stories of people being told the baby's a girl then it being a boy which puts me off a bit. Also I hate to think how much money I would spend if I knew the sex early!! So far my mum and dad know but we're going to try not to tell anyone else until after the scan.

Hope everyone ok today.

Egg · 19/06/2007 08:04

Morning. We will definitely find out sex. We did last time and I really enjoyed knowing we were having a boy. Then also I know whether to get all the blue things back out, or whether to buy new girly things. Really hope we can use lots of DS's stuff again, it is so cute...

miniandme · 19/06/2007 08:45

We've told everyone lol! think it was such a shock because of dp history that we were dying to tell everyone.
Have to say that a lot of it was met with a very very negative response that was very sad and upsetting ,we have only been together a very short time and the baby was a mega surprise,i also already have 3 kids and wasnt planning anymore.Have only had a couple of positive responses which is very considering its a new life and something me and dp never ever expected to happen for us.
So im glad i can post here and share everything as dont feel i can do any of it in real life apart from with dp.

rozzyraspberry · 19/06/2007 10:42

I'm sorry you've had negative reactions mini . As long as you and DP are happy though that's all that matters at the end of the day. I'm sure everyone will come round in the end and will be very happy for you and excited when your lo arrives!

Jo9977 · 19/06/2007 10:46

That's such a shame miniandme, I hope that people come round in time...I wonder if folk realise how insensitive their reactions are? Try not to let them get to you, hard I know.

Is it really only Tuesday? This is going to be one of the longest weeks of my life. We were just about to give up trying (I'm 39 and we were reaching the end of what I'm prepared to do fertility treatment wise) and this seemed like our chance. Maybe it is only too early to see but it still feels hopeless.

rozzyraspberry · 19/06/2007 10:53

Jo- I'm sorry you're having a hard time this week. Don't know what to advise but hang in there. Have you done a pregnancy test recently? If so is it still showing dark and positive?

Freddie327 · 19/06/2007 11:06

We haven't told anyone although one couple who we see regularly did ask at the weekend as I'm a regular at our local and last week didn't bother (DH did) and week before I was on lime and soda then when we went back to ours for a bbq, was a bit ill!!!

DH just shrugged and said "couldn't possibly say!". have got a family do nr end of July and going to announce then, but have got my sis to stay with this weekend and if I'm not on the wine, she's bound to guess, espesh as she just had her first LO in November! Ah well...

We are having an early scan next week when 7+2, just because I'm in early thirties and it's a piece of mind thing based on family history...

gingermumi · 19/06/2007 12:26

Keeping fingers crossed for you jo.

Mini- I had one or two negative reactions which did hurt, especially as one was from a close friend - she went as far as detailing all the awful things that can happen to me and/or the baby. The next time i saw her she made a point of telling me about someone she knew that was having a mc as we spoke! dh says she's jealous! Perhaps some of your friends are too?! If YOU think it's fab then it is! I decided not to take any notice (was hard to do) and just get on with being normal pregnant person - happy, sad, grumpy, sicky (and all the other dwarfs too!). Remember you're in a partnership with your dp not the others and i bet they come round (literally and figuratively)when they realsie how happy you are!

Jo9977 · 19/06/2007 12:31

Did one on Saturday rozzy, as we were so paranoid! Came out lovely and clearly BFP. On a slightly positive note, have just started feeling sick and a bit dizzy...surely SOMETHING'S going on! Sorry to everyone who's been feeling sick and hates it but at least it's normal...just you wait, I'll be moaning like a good 'un about it soon (hopefully!)

leesmum · 19/06/2007 12:34

hi to all the new mums2be.

can't believe i will be 8 weeks on fri, but getting a bit anxious because i lost last one at 8/9 weeks, and i feel like i haven't felt as sickly in last few days, now maybe im just getting used to it or has anyone else had sickness on and off? My (.)(.) are still sore so i dont know wether i'm reading into things a little bit tooooo much.

gingermumi · 19/06/2007 12:36

Mini- jsut occured to me - didn't you say you'd got engaged before bfp? Wot are people going on about!!? Can't be that short a relationship! You hold your head high and say poo to you! You also mentioned dps history, he had a low sperm count (?)not exactly a crime! Be happy!

gingermumi · 19/06/2007 12:46

Jo - that sounds good - was looking in one of my 'your prganancy' booklets and did notice that at six weeks all a sonographer can see is a sack of fluid - thought of you- if your dates are a bit out that would sound right. Glad you're feeling sick! Not in a nasty way - it means hormones could be kicking in which is cool.

Leesmum - i will be 8 weeks friday too - sounds really fab '8 weeks pregnant'! . Sick most days- to different degrees (seabands do help) and boobs sore - perhaps not as bad as they were. I think it's different for everyone. I had a mc at about 8+ weeks (long time ago) so am ashamed to admit to knicker checking . Keep reassuring myself that heart beat looked good and i feel crap so all is going ok.

Egg · 19/06/2007 13:03

Leesmum, loved your boobs (in a manner of speaking!). V clever. I hate feeling sick, but the minute I feel ok I panic. I am knicker checking every hour or so...

Jo, sickness is surely a good sign. Really hope everything is ok for you, it is horrible for anyone, but especially when you have tried so hard to get pg. It might only be Tuesday, but at least it is now afternoon, AND it is not still Monday...

Think I am off for a lie down now while DS is asleep. We went swimming this morning and I find it exhausting at the best of times. Worrying how I will be able to take DS swimming once we have a new baby, I guess weekends only .

Jo9977 · 19/06/2007 13:42

Thanks for all your encouragement guys...really helps having such support from people who understand. Now if I could just puke up my lunch...

Loved the (.)(.) too!

Oh, and glad I'm not the only one rushing off to the loo every 5 minutes if I sneeze!!

bubblesbabe · 19/06/2007 13:50

This board is brilliant - have spent the morning at work, feeling too old, anxious, burdened etc.. to have another baby and feel so much better reading all these funny and supportive messages!

samsmam · 19/06/2007 14:33

Hi all, Can I join- really early days for me- but I thought I'd join you all. Not read the thread yet will slowly get through it. Got an eight month old little girl called Samantha, going to have my work cut out!

Only 3+5 days but I knew I was pregnant- same symptoms as last time horrible metallic taste. BFP this morning, woke DP at 5am to tell him!

Welcome Samsmam, will be confusing we have two Sams on here now. Very that you are due on 29 Feb!! That is sooooo special I reckon.

Got to force myself to take DS out now for some air and a walk. I just want to stay here and chat though.

miniandme · 19/06/2007 15:16

gingermumi yes did get engaged before our bfp but we had only been together a few weeks when we got engaged anyway we have been together about 9 weeks and im almost 8 wks pg so can see where people are coming form but suppose i just wanted everyone to enjoy it with us eh.Dp has a low sperm count and basically what he does have are doing backstroke instead of front crawl so these really does seem like a miracle baby maybe thats what i want everyone to see for us.

HAVINGanotherone · 19/06/2007 15:30
