Doctor went well- it was the gP I saw with ds and she remembered my madness and hysteria from then. She said that as I did a second test this morning -which was positive- not to worry- they dont do any checks unless you bleed after 6 weeks. Got to book for the nuchal scan now -which has gone up from 90 quid with ds to 180 quid now!!. But dont get that until mid July - I cant wait that long to tell anyone! I'll probably tell family and close friends but not anyone else til after the scans

Sam- i felt much the same with ds- I was 39, it does get easier as time goes on- once you can tell people it becomes more of a reality
hungry mama-welcome and fingers crossed

Egg · 11/06/2007 20:08

Hi Teejay good news glad all is well. One question though, you have to pay for your nuchal scan? Doesn't everyone get one as standard if they want one?

teejay · 11/06/2007 20:09

no not round here anyway- its a private clinic in the NHS hospital, I think they do the triple test on the NHS. Is it free elsewhere then?

rozzyraspberry · 11/06/2007 20:11

Hungry - I think they can see the heartbeat at 7 weeks which will be reassuring!

Teejay - I'm glad your doctors appointment went well. I've never heard of nuchal scans apart from on mn. What are they? I'm in Scotland and it has been 3 years since I fell pregnant with DS2 but these were never mentioned to me.

Egg - I agree with you about getting more relaxed. I'm not 6 weeks yet but I do feel more relaxed as each day passes. I know things could still go wrong but I think the further on you get the less risk there is.

Anyway - I have spent far too much time on here today so I'm about to switch the computer off. Hope everyone else is well!

teejay · 11/06/2007 20:14

altho you are off-rozzy, nuchal scans combined with a blood test, give a 80% accurate odds of downs or other abnormalities by measuring the fold of skin at the back of the neck. I had one with ds1 and my odds went from 70/1 to 700/1. hope I'm as lucky this time

Egg · 11/06/2007 20:19

The nuchal scan is done as part of the 12-week scan, although you can refuse it if you would rather not know of abnormalities etc. It has to be done at the right time to measure the nuchal fold. It is very reassuring when you see how much the risk has (hopefully) gone down.

Right, I am off to watch Britain's got Talent and, like manamana, I will bawl my eyes out again. How lovely was that little 14-year old boy (think it was Dominic?), who sang unchained melody last night? His dad looked just like him and was so proud. Ahhh, I am welling up again.....

Welcome and congrats to hungry and sam.
Feel absolute pants, really sick and tired and like others will cry at anything (eg dr Who when sally went to see billy). Have scan friday, cant wait, am expanding daily- dh thinks it's twins! Could be I guess as risk increases with age. My friend at work that knows i'm pg said i'm starting to look pg so will probably have to say something soon.

Blimey Rose- your seventh!and you'll have 4 under 5! you must be a saint.
Leesmum thanks for the message- feel alot better

Egg · 12/06/2007 10:59

Hello Rose and welcome to Feb thread. You are now the winner, I think the most we had so far was a fifth child. Wonder if anyone else will beat you? You have a DS the same age as mine - hurrah (your youngest).

Really really felt rough this morning. Didn't get enough sleep as DS was coughing all night and needed calpol and cuddles, then decided to go swimming and nearly died on the way back I so exhausted. DS has passed out in his Zapp...

teejay · 12/06/2007 12:10

I'd say put you feet up but that might be difficult with a little one!
i've been feeling OK but really bloated

Egg · 12/06/2007 12:52

I have lost weight! No idea how as am eating a lot AND not the healthiest choices. DS now just gone for his proper nap, I have made six portions of DS-sized cottage pie, made DH's sandwiches for tomorrow, done all the washing up so am ready for a lovely lie down.

So my next question. We will be moving house before the baby is born, and chances are we will be approx two hours from both my parents and DH's parents, plus my sister. Who do we ask to look after DS when I go into labour? We wont know anyone local well enough by then??? And DH is not keen on homebirth. Any ideas?

Sam38 · 12/06/2007 13:38

Thanks for the warm welcome. Its nice to be in touch with others in the same boat. I've been experiencing period like pains from day 1 and was referred to an early pregnancy unit for tests. To date I've had 2 blood tests at 72 hours intervals which confirmed the hormone in my blood had increased by c.100% so the pregnancy is not ectopic. I also had a vaginal scan which confirmed there was a gestational sac and yolk sac however the sonographer said it was too early to see a fetal pole. My next appointment is on Friday and I pray everything goes to plan. I'll keep you posted......

indignatio · 12/06/2007 15:16

Please can I join
Due feb 9th ish
I have a ds aged nearly 5 and had a missed m/c last July. I am very very nervous about being able to hold on to this one.

Sam38 · 12/06/2007 15:28

At last a response... hi indiganatio - This is all so scary and just like you worry. I guess we must just pray that we are lucky....Have you had any tests yet or are you just waiting for 12 week scan?

rozzyraspberry · 12/06/2007 15:33

Congratulations to indignatio and rose!

I am due same day as you indignatio.

Rose - what a lovely big family you have. Being on here is certainly me more relaxed about having my 3rd - there are lots of mums on this thread having 4th, 5th and now 7th babies. It's nice we've got such a mix.

DearBeatrice · 12/06/2007 17:34

hi everyone - am i still the only one expecting my first? i've had a really upset tummy for the last day or two - anyone else?

welcome to the newbies - baby number 7, congrats Rose

Egg · 12/06/2007 17:44

Hi DB, I think there are two others now expecting their first. Definitely Sam38 as well as you, but I am sure I saw another too... hope you are not feeling too rough with your upset tummy, I had it last week but it was gone within a day with no lasting ill effects.

Welcome to Indignatio . Sorry about your mc last year , we will all cross everything for you this time round. I think we are all so worried still at this early stage, and quite a few of the other ladies on this thread have experienced mc too so there is lots of support .

Egg · 12/06/2007 17:46

Ooops sorry Sam, forgot to say great news that your early scan showed everything as it should be for this stage. It's good that they are keeping an eye on you and making sure all is well which must set your mind at rest a bit!

RoseQuartz · 12/06/2007 17:58

Egg - my youngest ds was born march 11th, was yours also? Strange both our little uns being same age, and us both due again in same month!!! The urge must have hit us around the same time twice then- he he, take care! xx

Slacker · 12/06/2007 18:14

Hello everyone especially newbies [waves]

Happy to hand over the title of "most children on this thread" to you Rose, 7 in 7 years - wow! This baby is number 5 for me but my oldest will be 13 by February.

OMG I am sooooo tired - had a sleep this afternoon and nearly missed going out to do school pickup. I'm still not sick but have a constant stomach ache, which may or may not be related to my faddy eating (have been going mad for salt and vinegar crisps, mmmm!). Just generally feeling tired and bloated. Keep forgetting why I wanted to do this again!

Egg - the best solution to your moving dilemma is to get your DH keen on homebirth, IMO! Show him all the stats on the homebirth.org.uk website and that should allay any doubts he has. (Sorry but I'm a bit of a homebirth activist!) Other than that I have no suggestions, we're in the same position of having no one to call on in the unlikely event of me having to go to hospital. Would have to leave the 13yo in charge!

Right, off for another lie down! Hope you're all doing ok.

DearBeatrice · 12/06/2007 18:36

Egg, perhaps you coudl tell your dh the only other option is to ensure that you always have a helipad to hand, like katie & peter..

sam, good news re your scan

you've all persauded me to go for a nap!

dh said we 'have to use up the eggs in the fridge' so am already feeling bleugh at the thought of it..

methinks he needs to develop some sympathy to pregnancy sickness .. can just about stomach idea of omelettes but the poor dear claims he doesn't know how to do those.. have left delia out in the kitchen for him

have a lovely evening everyone - and a good sleep. keep those beanies safe

beansprout · 12/06/2007 18:46

Hi everyone and welcome to the new people

Am exhausted and ds woke up at 3.50 this morning (wtf!). I got another hour once dh got up (at 5) but am really struggling.

Someone else at work asked me if I was preg today. Except he didn't. He just kept asking me, in a really pointed way, if there was something I wanted to tell him. Er, no, otherwise I would have told you. He really kept on about it and it upset me. It was just before a meeting started so I couldn't just walk away. I was really fed up about it. I don't want to tempt fate by telling people and I certainly don't want it forced out of me. I must either have twins or just be a right lardy moose. Am not happy. . Feel my arm is being twisted and I need to tell my boss. This all feels ridiculous for 6 weeks!!!

Sorry to just turn up and moan but you are the only people who understand!!

Also meant to say "thank you' to the other breastfeeders. Feel much better knowing there are a few of you out there!!

Hope everyone else is ok.
