Beansprout -- tell colleague: "Please can you just tell me what this great secret is that I'm supposed to be keeping from you, so then we will both know about it!?"

Am I the only one avoiding going to MW/doctor, so far? I just don't want to deal with "the system" any sooner than I have to... especially because I will refuse to give blood sample (it makes my nausea much worse). I'm just waiting for arguments and pressure...

And I want a homebirth, and they'll probably argue with that, too. We haven't lived here long, but I know all women are booked for induction at EDD+10 for instance, automatically. And I've heard of refusal to attend homebirths. If they do that to me I may end up giving birth in the car, I have quite fast labours (~2 hrs).

rozzyraspberry · 12/06/2007 19:49

Hi everyone. Hope you're all well!

Sorry you're having a hard time at work again beansprout - seems like you work with very nosy people! And I thought my 2 were early risers - 6am seems quite civilised compared to when your ds got up this morning!

Am envious of those of you who are managing to nap. I'm finding that I'm tired when I'm sitting up or standing but as soon as I lie down I'm wide awake. Probably not helped by having 2 small children jumping on me and shouting as loudly as they could!

lljkk I have made my gp appointment for Wednesday next week so I'll have to hand in my urine sample at the end of this week as 'proof' I'm pregnant. I thought I'd better get in the system as I'll have to arrange time off work once my scan appointment comes in.

Hope everyone has a nice relaxing evening.

TheMaskedPoster · 12/06/2007 19:57

hello all

just found out yesterday/today (double tested) that I am 'in the club' so to speak and therefore due in Feb '08!

am very happy, and look forward to chatting to you all

Slacker · 12/06/2007 20:08

lljkk - I'm not making any immediate plans to see midwives. If I want any scans I'll arrange them myself privately, and I don't particularly value antenatal care so I'm not rushing to get 'in the system'. I haven't decided whether to use the NHS at all so don't want them to open a file on me! With DS3 I booked in at 23 weeks, didn't feel any need to book sooner. Although that was the worst pregnancy for them hassling me, so I think they put me straight in the bad book!

If you need support with getting the homebirth you're entitled to, the HomebirthUK yahoo group is fab (I would say that, I've been a member for years, on and off!). But don't worry about that at this stage, it's only in the last few weeks that you really find out whether you're going to be supported or not, although being firm from the start can't hurt. Remember you're informing them that you're planning a homebirth, not requesting one.

Slacker · 12/06/2007 20:10

Congratulations TMP

There's a list somewhere you might want to add yourself to, good luck finding it though, this thread is getting so long!

beansprout · 12/06/2007 20:11

Wotcha MP

Thanks for your comments. Just told dh all about it and he said that colleague doing that was tantamount to sex discrimination. Told dh that I loved it when he got all masterful and protective >

No tests needed by my GP, they just take you at your word.
lljkk - why would they refuse you a homebirth when your labours sound sooo straightforward? Can you just wave the guidelines at them and end any discussion?

Slacker · 12/06/2007 20:16

beansprout - can't believe what nosy buggers you work with, tell them to mind their own business! You did make me laugh with 'lardy moose' though

Hope your DS sleeps better tonight, you need your kip! Especially with working all day, I don't know how you do it.

fillyjonk · 12/06/2007 21:42

lijk, would be suprised if they denied you a hb, if you've had straightforward labours. hbs are cheaper and they have targets to meet on them. really wouldn't worry.

Why are they asking for blood at this stage? There are good reasons IMO to ask for it a bit later, to check immunities to various diesases but also check for recent exposure, eg to toxoplasmosis. But it'd be odd to ask for it pre the 12 week booking appt.

CountTo10 · 12/06/2007 23:05

Right - how much have I missed!!! My goodness!!!

Ok so hello to all new people!! Hope everyone is ok and glad things are going well teejay. I share in the tearfulness, bitch from hell and bloatedness still!!! Girl at work bought in her 12 week scan today and I promptly burst into tears!!! Then had to take her to one side and explain why. Need to really anyway as I think they were gonna try and give me a lot of her work whilst she was off!!!

Had my initial docs appt today and things have changed quite a bit. Midwife does my booking appt at home and I get a dating scan as standard so very excited as I thought I was going to have to spend out £100 for one!! We also don't get nuchal scans as standard so would need to pay £130 for that. At 28 though I'm considered lower risk so not convinced whether to have one or not. Didn;t with ds and I just don't know what to do. It was quite nice going to docs as it felt a bit more official. Am struggling to hide my bloated tum though!!! And people keep asking when we're having another one and I just feel like I'm lying all the time!!

Anyway, back tomorrow as dp needs to get back on!!!

beansprout · 13/06/2007 09:01

Morning everyone. Have decided that I am a pot bellied pig as it is ridiculous to be showing at 6 or so weeks. Humph.

Actually had a night's sleep though so am feeling a bit better today. Today I will mostly be trying boiled sweets in my battle against morning sickness. Wish me luck!!

leesmum · 13/06/2007 09:30

wow beansprout have you too been overdosing on boiled sweets i especially like liquorice and blackurrant, hey it keeps the sickness away but its just as well we get free dental treatment.lol.
p.s. hi to all new ladies and welcome to the heffalump club!!

teejay · 13/06/2007 09:35

welcome to all the new ones and congratulations- leesmum- we obviously ahve the same computer pattern!
i've got real bowel problems! bloating-flatulence and now constipation- remind me why I thought this was a good idea

leesmum · 13/06/2007 09:42

morning teejay, sorry to hear about your bad arse!! nothing like that for me but loads of belching, people have started commenting on it,im blaming it on fizzy drinks even though i dont touch the stuff.

teejay · 13/06/2007 09:53

Its amazing how creative with the truth we become- I blamed the hot weather for not having a glass of wine(unheard of usually!)at the weekend. I daresay I'll have to use the old faithful of antibiotics to explain my teetotalism soon. I found last time if you say you've got either a urinary infection or thrush it shuts people up quickly.
I do feel for beansprout tho' -people can be so insensitive- If I suspected then I certainly wouldnt put pressure on anyone, I might gossip but never ask outright. The worst is always being asked when are you having another one when people could have been trying for ages.
although worse in a different way was when my fil asked if I was pregnant when I was just fat!

DearBeatrice · 13/06/2007 09:58

morning all; am munching away on water biscuits to keep the sickiness away. so far so good. drinking lots of milk before bed also seems to help.

beansprout, what a nosy git your colleague is. i'd make sure that when you do make the announcement to your team you give him a special mention and say 'and mainly just to put X's mind at rest, since he was so interested in my early pregnancy and asked me from very early on if i was or not'

does anyone know how long the free prescription certs take to come through? oh, and if you have a private dentist ie at work, can you get free treatment there, or do you have to transfer to a nhs practice for your pregnancy and year thereafter?

tks chums - and welcome to the masked poster

leesmum · 13/06/2007 10:02

i know how beansprout must feel, after having mc in jan a couple of people in work have said recently "so when do you think you'll try for another" i want to say mind your own f*ing business but i just tell them were not sure yet, for all they know i could be having problems. but 99% of them have been great and not said anything.

rozzyraspberry · 13/06/2007 10:30

Morning everyone.

Dearbeatrice - I was wondering about the free dental care as well. It's impossible to get an NHS dentist here so we're private. I take it that means I won't get free dental treatment this time? We still had an NHS dentist when I was pregnant last time so not sure how this works - does anyone know?

I'm finding that doing 1/2 hour exercise once the kids are in bed at night is helping me feel a bit better. It's really hard at the time but once I've finished it does make me feel more energetic. Having some supper is also helping with the quesiness in the morning. However, I'm not quite 6 weeks yet so I know it'll get worse and less easy to control - roll on 12 - 14 weeks!!

TheMaskedPoster · 13/06/2007 11:20

Good morning everyone

just been skim-reading a few posts, and it is nice to have the company of others to talk through certain things with.

I must admit, that I'm not feeling too queasy today at all, but I have a continuous headache and am extremely emotional (just cried at the ending of a book I was reading, and although it was touchingly sweet .. it didn't warrent the floods of tears I cried over it!!)

I am still grinning from ear to ear, and I rang my mum (in NZ) last night to tell her the news and she was delighted (once she had established the fact that we were delighted too!)

Hope you are all ok and look forward to chatting soon.

teejay · 13/06/2007 12:26

I'm feeling guilty that I'm not sick after all your miseries. I was dead lucky with ds too not even a hint of nausea. apparently my mum had no sickess either. To compensate my bowels are not healthy at all.

Just made my nuchal fold scan- for the 24/7 which seems like a age away and with the tightness of these trousers likely to be after I am so obvious that even ds will guess.

pobletsmum · 13/06/2007 12:59

Hi everyone! Welcome to the new people!

beansprout - how awful to have to fend off comments from nosy colleagues at this stage. I'm not quite 5 weeks, but I noticed 2 people looking at my belly this week at work . Fortunately nobody has said anything, but they're probably all gossiping by now. I haven't told anyone, but there's one lady who always just seems to know when someone's pregnant, and tells everyone. She's not often wrong! I usually join in the gossiping so I can't complain!

I am overweight already, and starting to swell, feeling v. bloated. I put on 4st last time, and still have nearly 2 of it left. I was really nauseous all the way through, and quite often sick at 2/3am and 6pm. The only thing that made life tolerable was eating, hence the weight gain. I'm really hoping to avoid a repeat performance. I have started to feel a bit nauseous at times, especially when I'm hungry, but it's not a problem yet. There's plenty of time... I had heartburn last night, which I havn't had since DS was born. I don't know if it's pregnany related - anyone know?

I rang a midwife to find out whether I have to see a GP before my booking appt. She said no, that's old-fashioned so I booked my booking appt. Today, the surgery rang me to say that they've noticed I haven't booked a GP appt & that I have to see GP before midwife. GRRRRR!!!!! Fortunately GP had cancellation for this friday so I can get it over & done with.

Has anyone told friends & family their news? I'm really tempted, the main reason being that if something did go wrong, I think I would want certain people to know. Last pg I ended up telling work colleagues at around 8wks anyway because the nausea made me a complete waste of space & they kept asking me if I was alright & telling me I looked green/grey!!!!

Right, I'm off. Sorry for rambling for so long. I'm just letting it all out here cos I haven't even told my mum yet! I'm going for a nap while DS is still sleeping - I recommend it to everyone!!!!!!!!

pobletsmum · 13/06/2007 13:05

Sorry for the 3rd post in a row, but forgot to say I wasn't able to get free treatment at private dentist, and had to change to NHS one.

Also, I hope those of you who want homebirths are able to have them. In some ways I'd love to have one, but I won't be considering it as an option. I've been told I'll be referred to consultant to discuss possibility of C-section (will also act as a kind of de-brief for DS' birth).

beller · 13/06/2007 13:32

sorry to butt in on your post ( im on the jan one),but was reading through (quiet at work). I had a private dentist, but called a local one,and they were taking on pregnant patients, but not anyone, might be worth a call? I have my appt for 28th jun....good luck xx

DearBeatrice · 13/06/2007 14:18

thanks beller - much appreciated, v helpful.. I'll call a local dentist or two and get signed up fingers crossed

thanks again hope all is going well for you on the january thread

Egg · 13/06/2007 17:28

Hello All. I should try not to stay away all day or I get so far behind. Am so tired I just go straight to bed as soon as DS has his lunchtime nap.

Beansprout I am at your colleague. Especially from a man, although not sure why that makes it worse. What a to**er.

I have told quite a few people, all my close family (parents and sis / BIL), not told inlaws yet as we are going to visit in a couple of weeks so will tell them then. Also told three friends AND now all my old ante natal group who are all friends still too... so, nearly everyone . Considering I wander round with travel sickness bands on permanently it is hard to hide!

My dentist no longer gives free treatment to pregnant ladies. I did get it last time but it stopped before DS was a year as he is 100% private now.

Not sure if I have said welcome and congrats to the The Masked Poster yet, have lost track of everything. Anyway, welcome to Feb thread, we are a lovely bunch!
