Make cake instead. Gender reveal AND cake = win.

I'm with Limp, it is cheesy. But it's your pregnancy, God knows you've waited long enough for it, you should get to do whatever you want so long as you're not needlessly hurting anyone else.

SoozC · 20/06/2018 18:20

I'll ask Dad if he wants to know. He may want to be traditional and surprised at the birth. But we want to find out so I think it's too much pressure to keep to ourselves for so long!

But I definitely won't be doing cheesy reveals to my friends who are childless not by choice. If they want to know they'll ask. I know what it's like.

I've had really itchy nipples today and they're a bit dry/flaky. I'm gonna invest in some cocoa butter stuff at the weekend, I think.

LookingAtTheStars89 · 20/06/2018 20:37

@Si1ver. Ooh I second cake !! I love cake.

WonkyDonk87 · 20/06/2018 21:20

@LimpLettice Definitely none of that! My colleague went to tell her at home so she didn't have to hear it in the office, and we've already discussed how to minimise chat around the office about it.

Can I have some cake now? Crap day at work, super stressful. Too tired to crack open the laptop as we've been doing housework since I got back so have to go in for 7am to try and catch up.

LookingAtTheStars89 · 20/06/2018 21:35

@WonkyDonk87. I had a crap day too :-( I spent most of it in A&E as my asthma got bad. They put me on a nebulizer for a bit which made my heart rate go up to 130! So now I feel like a sack of shit lol. I got my HcG results and they were over 7000 so that's good :-)

WonkyDonk87 · 20/06/2018 21:47

Good news about your hcg.... A&E visit less good. Restful day tomorrow for you?

SoozC · 20/06/2018 22:17

How would the cake work? Royal icing and underneath pink or blue sponge so when you cut a piece it reveals the colour? Confused

Si1ver · 21/06/2018 08:51

Yes or it could do a four level sponge, cut a hole in the middle two layers and fill with pink or blue smarties. That way you get cake AND smarties.

There's loads of reveals on Instagram or Pinterest.

LookingAtTheStars89 · 21/06/2018 10:00

@Si1ver. 😂 Can I come to your reveal??

Si1ver · 21/06/2018 11:25

@LookingAtTheStars89 I think I've talked myself into doing a gender reveal on the basis of the cake. It'll just be you, me and the dog sat in my kitchen. 😂

LimpLettice · 21/06/2018 11:30

Cake and Smarties, what's not to like? Although I am afraid I would snigger a bit. All a bit American, innit? I am afraid I am tempted to google gender reveal cake fails for comedy value.

Looking that is good news re your HCG, I hope you feel better soon.

I meant to say Sooz just get some Lansinoh for the itchy nips. It is great for chapped bits in the very early days of breasfeeding and works really well, might as well start it now if they are dry. I didn't find out with DD, thought it would provide some motivation, but after the struggle of ttc this time I felt like I needed to know and DH was the same. It's nice not having to say 'it' and more. 'He' feels a bit weird though!

SoozC · 21/06/2018 12:23

Smarties too?! I'm re-thinking my balloon idea in favour of cake and chocolate! You're all invited BTW!

Thanks, Limp, I'll grab some. Not so bad at the moment but I still find myself trying to rub them surreptitiously. Currently in first aid training so room full of people - not easy!

Si1ver · 21/06/2018 13:05

LookingAtTheStars89 · 21/06/2018 13:07

@Si1ver. Hey, I'm good with that...dogs can't eat cake so it would be a nice, even 50/50 split 😁 😂 Can you imagine how many tubes of Smarties you'd need to get enough pink or blue to fill a cake??

DoAsDreamersDo · 21/06/2018 13:19

Ooh, now I want some cake! I might make a cake, take a picture of it for a Facebook reveal of the pregnancy and then eat it all myself, because why not?

Si1ver · 21/06/2018 13:37

@LookingAtTheStars89 you can bulk buy specific colours.

LookingAtTheStars89 · 21/06/2018 13:43

@DoAsDreamersDo. I just had a chocolate filled Doughnut - it was amazing.

@Si1ver. Ahhh, handy to know. My DD (5yo) LOVES Smarties.

DoAsDreamersDo · 21/06/2018 13:48

Looking that sounds amazing! I had a real craving for doughnuts last week! I bought a pack of five jam filled ones, ate two and then couldn't even look at them the next day because the thought of anything sweet made me feel sick!
