Morning all. Purple and chatty: just wanted to add that my 7 yo ds has me doing his hair most mornings before school, sometimes spikes, or a mohican or even a boy band look. It takes a while and I get messy. Reckon bunches or plaits (?sp) would be easier! Chatty, he's also interested in fashion, not designer names yet (thank goodness) but he likes his clothes just so. He also likes jewellry (latest thing is he wants his ear pierced, or even worse both with diamond earrings like David Beckham). All this makes him sound quite feminine, but he's not. I can't see ds2 tunning out like this, but we'll see, he's more of a eating dirt and worms little boy. The one I'm pregnant with looks like is going to be a boy as well. And that's fab, because although my boys are very different from each other they do have something in common: they have a very close bond and love each other very, very much, and look out for each other even at young ages AND they both love loads and loads of cuddles with their mum. And they've promised me they'll still cuddle me when they have girlfriends and are married!

Canadianmum, just a thought for you: all the scanners I've seen have an input for sex, but it's for the sex of the person being scanned not the baby. So if he saw an 'F' it'll be because you're an 'F' and not your baby. I reckon that's what he saw. If so, you're both still none the wiser.

Hi to everyone else as well. Good luck with up coming scans. BTW can't believe there are soooo many girls. All the surprises must be boys surely?

Hopeitwontbebig · 15/05/2007 09:30

Good Morning everyone

Good luck for your scans .....

Purple- well done on your ebay bargain!! Are they purple clothes by any chance??

Canadianmum - congrats on your scan results yesterday , was the 3D/4D scan good? Does it look like a proper baby at this stage? Would be interested to hear what you think.

Well my morning didn't start too well, our cat decided that she was going to use our bathroom carpet as a toilet this morning. I can't believe how much wee a small animal can produce. I almost went through an entire loo roll BAD CAT

morning girls,

so much to catch up on!!

Sorry that you're feeling upset Chatty, I'm sure its just the initial surprise. Hope you don't mind me sticking my two pence worth in on the pros of having two boys. I think it will be good because they will play together and probably be quite close also you will the rose amongst the thorns, the only lady in the house and will probably get spoilt rotten and treated like the princess that you are!!

Sophus and Loopy, your ils sound like a nightmare. I would suggest not seeing them too often if you can help it whilst emotional and pregnant but sounds like your dhs are very close to them so not much of a solution. My ils live in South Africa so I only have to remember to send the odd card and then I forget about them...sounds good doesn't it? But it does have its own problems, for example they wanted to come stay as soon as the baby was born for 2/3 weeks (no point coming all this way for a week!) and I have heard horror stories about this situation, so I have had to tell dh that don't think its a good idea and made him tell them that we will visit them early next year instead.

HWBB, I am also having a nightmare over names with dh...he has no taste and doesn't like any of my suggestions but comes up with nothing sensible himself. He is threatening to do what a friend of ours did...the husband went out and registered their sons name without telling his wife and he just picked the name on a whim...she did not like.

Well I am off on holiday for a week tomorrow and when I get back (24thMay) I will have just one day till my scan, yippee! Also am picking up my new car that day too.We are going to try out all that new boot space by seeing how much camping gear we can fit in it for the bank holiday weekend when we're off to Wales to go surfing, we previously had to rely on friends to take most of our gear for us...

Oh, does anyone have suggestions for good cotbeds/cots, real nappies and breast pumps. I am getting the majority of stuff second hand from a friend but these are things I need to buy...I haven't got a clue!

Anyway I have prattled on for long enough. Good luck to those with scans this week.

xx

laksa · 15/05/2007 09:41

hwbb, I just read your msg...make sure you clean the area really thoroughly with a cleaning agent that doesn't contain ammonia as cats will use the same spot again if they catch even the faintest whiff of wee left behind.

ThomCat · 15/05/2007 09:44

laksa · 15/05/2007 09:52

ok, I have verbal diarrhoea today but just had to say...snap, Mrs Fish! I have seen that episode of greys anatomy twice now and have cried at it both times...not so much at the end but when the dog dies in the middle...I never cry, dh ends up in fits of laughter at me, Good luck with your scan today xx.

I've been feeling a bit evil this morning Fio. Is there something in the air, water.....

Wanted to throttle cat, then wanted to throttle DS1, who was being a complete and utter arse this morning

Hi Laska - I cried at the dog bit, but absolutely bawled my eyes out at the end

canadianmum · 15/05/2007 10:46

laksa - my only advice for a breast pump is not to bother with a manual one, they are hopeless and will give you RSI in your wrist, try to get an electric one. You can rent really good ones too, like the hospitals have which work really well. Sort of depends how much you are going to use it.

HIWBB - The 4D bit of the ultrasound was very brief but gave a really lovely view of lo's face with his/her hands up - looks like proper baby but with quite big eye sockets IYKWIM. (not sure what 4D means as opposed to 3D ???? but that's what it said on the scan report).

re: names - luckily DH and I agree on at least one for each sex but my current favourite girl's name has been vetoed - Caitlin. I love it but DH hates it .

Best wishes for scans today, will there be more girls ??????

laksa · 15/05/2007 10:51

to be honest, I am really enjoying feeling so emotional, maybe its the novelty but it feels like wallowing in a warm bath and just relaxing every muscle. Can't wait for the next series of Greys to start

hannahsaunt · 15/05/2007 10:54

I feel lovely today - went to bed at 8.15pm last night and slept right through with ds2 only wetting his bed at 6am . What a difference unbroken sleep makes! Then dh offered to do all the dropping off today so was at work early and as the first to be left off didn't have to contend with the morning traffic even as a passenger. Blissful start!

Hayfever is rampant though but am nearly off all sickness meds ! And could eat muesli today without feeling dreadful (and apples came back on the menu last week so things are looking up on the digestive/sickness front).

Good luck for all scans today.

laksa · 15/05/2007 10:55

canadianmum, was considering the ameda lactiline duo? I thought doing both breasts at the same time would be faster...does make me think I might resemble a cow though

MrsMar · 15/05/2007 12:05

Hello all... I dunno, I turn my back for a few minutes and ten thousands posts appear!

Welcome to our newbies, I think rubarb and tinkjon are the latest.

Chatty, I hope you're feeling better about your boy soon. I posted on your other thread, so I won't bore you with my experiences again, but just to echo what everyone else says, he'll be adorable and love his mummy so much! If your dh is still unhappy, you can point out that you have no say in the matter as you've only got x chromosomes. It's obviously his super strong y chromosomes that win the day!

Good luck to everyone having scans today, GMMM, TC, Rhubarb and MrsFish. I hope the nerves are bearable!

Hannahsaunt - how nice to have such a long sleep, it's great isn't it. I'm feeling a wee bit tired myself today, but yesterday I slept from 11pm to 11am!! Felt great!

Have a great holiday Laksa, surfing in Cornwall? You're too cool! Are you surfing or doing what I've always done (sit on the beach with a cold one and admired the toned surf boys - in my single days of course!)

HIWBB - my cat waits until I'm feeling my worst and then pukes in front of me. She's truely evil, you have my sympathy!

I'm glad the scan went well canadianmum - it does make me chuckle to hear how excited you are about having one!

I'm off to doze on the sofa now, I had to get myself up early to look after my niece and then have my hair cut. Bit of a disaster on both fronts, I'm such a terrible aunty I plonked my niece in front of cbeebies because she was so grizzly, and then my hair dresser called in sick. Hmm got to go to a party this weekend looking like the wild woman of Borneo!

I hope everyone's scans go well, can't wait to hear all the news! Have a lovely day!

xx

laksa · 15/05/2007 12:12

Mrs Mar, not going to cornwall but wales (the gower) one of my best frens who I went to uni with was from cornwall and when I used to visit her we would spend the day checking the surf bods out and allocating scores...on their surfing performance of course

Oh my god, I'm such a duh brain, I was planning to surf when we went down..but forgot one small detail, am pregnant!! My dh, sis and friends have all forgotten this fact as well...is it safe I wonder Maybe I will be sitting on the beach with a cold one!

LoopyLouLisa · 15/05/2007 12:17

Hi Laska, re; real nappies, my advice would be to wait at least until the baby is a few weeks old. so many of my friends have bought them during pg only to find being a new mum and all the new tasks/washing are so daunting that they've quickly resorted to disposables. You can buy eco friendly nappies (i think they're called 'naturals') in boots and sainsbury's xx

Pennypops · 15/05/2007 13:07

Hey all,

Good luck for all scans today - I wish you well.

HIWBB - sympathise on the cat front. Mine is being a right little madam at the mo and used my nice new baggy yoga pants as a loo on Sunday morning!

Canadianmum - well done on your scan - fabby news!

Laksa - have a fab holiday!

Chattyhan · 15/05/2007 13:27

Feeling much better now. But DP still not talking which makes me feel awful. does anyone else have DP who bottles up his feelings and won't talk. Trouble is i'm a talker and would love to chat about how i feel but he won't! Any suggestions on whether i should bug him to support me more or leave him alone?

GiveMeMoreMash · 15/05/2007 13:31

Hello All!

Not posted for a while as I seem never to have a spare moment for some reason. It's taken me a few days just to catch up on all the new posts too!

Welcome to all the newbies (I didn't think we could get much bigger but we seem to be managing .

Had my scan this morning and everything is fine so can stop worrying at last. Confirmed what we were told at the amnio, it's a boy!! Hope everyone else's today went will and good luck to the next few: drCaroline & MrsMar.

It's taken me all lunchtime to catch up on the news so haven't got much time for anything else. Nothing exciting has happened to me anyway, not like all the dramas I've been reading about on here - it's better than the telly . Pregnancy so far (fingers crossed) seems to be progressing like a dream (no funny bleeding, pains etc...)

I've been thinking about having a home birth, mainly because I really want to use the birthing pool and there's no guarantee that you'll get one at the birth centre (especially since it seems to be extra busy at this time of year!!) I've yet to mention it to the midwife so don't know what her reaction will be. Does anyone else have any experience of home births (for a slighly older lady having a first baby)? The junior doctor I saw today at the hospital seemed to think that there shouldn't be any medical reason why not. But then again she didn't really seem to understand why I was at that hospital at all?! She kept asking me why I'd been referred there - I know I'm not strictly in their catchment area but when I was given the choice between the hospital 18 miles away (my local one?!) and this one (6 miles away!) it wasn't such a hard choice! At least she was pleasant (which is more than you can say for some doctors!)

Anyway enough rambling, must get back to work. Ho hum...

Chattyhan · 15/05/2007 13:36

purple/laksa - thanks for ideas for pro/cons list - i need to get my fantasy family out of my head and rejoice in what i'm being given!

Thanks to everyone else who has helped me get my head around this xx

Good luck to all those with scans xx
