Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

TYG - the mirror was the one thing we didn't have last time (I'm so low maintenance I don't even have a make up mirror) so we ended up using the only thing we did have, which was a sighting compass. It amuses me that it was used to look up my fanjo every time I'm out doing field work and using the compass. Have actually invested in a hand mirror this time.

largeginandtonic · 26/04/2007 11:57

Gald it all went ok this morning TYG, a mirror is a fab idea. Some people like to have a look, im not one of them! I zone out a bit Mmmmmmm egg sandwiches, good choice midwife!

Am off to see the midwife in a mo, have had braxton hicks all morning at toddlers so hope she doesnt feel any while im on the table or she may pack me off to hospital to have the section early!

Kids away this weekend and so are PIL so prob not great timming. Here's hoping it all goes quiet.

Hope pebble and lupins are ok.

Mrsjb you see the anaethestist today dont you? Wonder how that is going too.

We are all doing something everyday day now, must be getting ready for some major event, any idea what it is?????!!!!!!

SOH i have seen the HV too, took about 20 mins. She was lovely, just handed me the red book and asked if i was ok and did i have any questions for her. Dont worry. I cleaned like a trooper rememember and she never even left the front room!

cameroonmama · 26/04/2007 11:58

I'm very at all your homebirth chatter.

Also I'm going to have a tantrum, because there is a mouse in my house, I have found his evidence everywhere..how do I get rid of it humane or not so humane advice welcomed. It has nibbled not a whole baby plum tomato but lots of little bits out of all of them, cheeky blighter. I must be a slovenly housekeeper, what would a HV say about that?

ShowOfHands · 26/04/2007 12:14

A looking glass? At the birth? Ooh dearie me no, shan't be wanting to see that at all.

Egg? In a sandwich? That's not right either. Can you eat egg sandwiches, that's very weird? But then DH put banana in a sandwich last week, that's even weirder.

I wonder what gingerbread sandwiches taste like...

Lwatkins · 26/04/2007 12:15

Cam put down some traps or get a cat. Don't think there is a nice way to catch a mouse, ba**ards are too quick so you end up just getting annoyed with them and wanting them - no matter how inhumane your methods are!

ShowOfHands · 26/04/2007 12:16

Catch it and keep it. My brother has pet mice, they're all called Simon. I saw mice on the underground, they were pure black.

Ramble ramble.

cameroonmama · 26/04/2007 12:35

Don't suggest keeping it to the kids, but I think I might call it Simon so he feels some kinship with his norfolk cousins. I think the black mouse you saw on the underground is more commonly called a rat...

LW - don't you have lectures or something to go to?

cameroonmama · 26/04/2007 12:37

LG&T, I hope the BH don't turn into anything too major, I don't want to lose my cs buddy. Fingers crossed.

cinnamontam · 26/04/2007 12:41

hey all - sitting on the couch trying to work but madam is demanding i sing to her and rub her back!!

If i stop either she starts jabbing at me. I'm growing a massage slut

ShowOfHands · 26/04/2007 12:53

No they were mice, tiny little mice in the cracks of the underground lines. The black was smoggy dirtiness. Most definitely not rats. I may never have drunk hot chocolate or anything fizzy but I know my rodents.

HV due in 7 minutes...

MKG · 26/04/2007 13:17

Hello all!!

I'm still sleepy, but that's ok.

I've very excited because I'm going to pick up the new stroller today. So I'm stoked about it, then off to visit sil at her job (she's a nanny so playtime for my ds and the 3 kids over there)

I have my doctor's appointment tomorrow. Woohoo I have my strep B test and from then on I will get an internal every week. I like to have them done because I'm excited to know if there has been any progress. I've been taking my evening primrose oil, so hopefully my cervix has done something interesting.

Hope everyone is doing well and not having babies yet.

Lupins Congrats on Arlen's journey home today!

Pinkjenny · 26/04/2007 13:37

Afternoon all. After my distressing incident on the scales last night, I am trying to be good today and so far have only had the 4 chocolate digestives.

My cousin was texting me last night about my weight gain, and she said to me, 'oh that's the way I was with Jack, be careful you're not having a boy.' Be careful, how do I do that then?

I am obsessed with the sex of this baby being wrong due to all the pinkness that surrounds me. And that comment didn't help.

I have not heard of a HV coming to see me before the birth, must depend where you live. Am going back to the hospital tomorrow to confirm that the baby still hasn't turned. I presume they'll refer me to the ECV clinic tomorrow for the manual turning procedure, which totally freaks me out.

Hope you are all having a lovely day.

cameroonmama · 26/04/2007 13:44

Bit late for being careful Pink, if you ask me. I can tell by the way you are carrying that you are definitely having a boy.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow and all that turning business. If you have to book a date for a section try to join LG&T and I on the 11th, its got a good vibe

toomanyprojects · 26/04/2007 13:54

afternoon everyone - finally I'm on the count down to induction - will be on the way to hospital on Saturday afteroon for the induction. Not really surprised as this has happened both times before - the midwive tried to do a sweep this morning but the babie's head which was engaged yeserday had decided to go elsewhere so she wasn't hopeful.

On the bra front, I was a different size both times before and sold my enormous collection of feeding and sleep bras on ebay last summer before I found out about this little surprise

Everyone is totally different - my friend is rather large up top and thought that finishing breastfeeding would reduce them in size from pre pregnancy but they ended up larger than before!
Also you are always being told that b/fing helps you lose weight - have to say it is the opposite with me - must store the mlik on my hips! Everytime a major feed was dropped as LOs were being weaned to solids I would literally lose half a stone in a week. Don't want to put anyone off as the weight did go in the end!

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend - meant to be warm and sunny here but I won't see much of it.

AbbyLou · 26/04/2007 13:54

Hello! Well it's another lovely day here and I'm stuck inside as ds isn't well. H estarted being sick about 4.30pm last night and isn't even keeping juice down. So far so good with the water but it's a bugger trying to get him to drink it. He looks so poorly, he's feeling really sorry for himself. He's even got past the cuddles stage, all he wants to do now is sleep which is what he's done all day so far. It doesn have one plus point though, dh has decided to take the day off as he's worried about me cleaning up sick, endless washing and catching something - bless him, he loves me really.
I can't believe so many of you are having homebirths, you're way braver than me. I must admit I do like the idea of giving birht in water though. It sounds very peaceful.
We don't have hv visits before the birth here either, they come afterwards when the mw has finished coming. I'm sure you will be fine SOH, I think they have to respect someone who knows their mind and is comfortable with their own opioions. When you think about some of the numpties they must have to see....

Pinkjenny · 26/04/2007 13:57

Cam - its a bloody girl!

twelveyeargap · 26/04/2007 14:14

I love banana sandwiches. It's the banana/ butter combo that does it for me. Rather fond of banana on a toasted cinnamon and raisin beigel as well. Yum, yum, yum.

Changing table arrived just now. That's everything in except the carrycot and raincover for the buggy. Hooorah. The delivery man was sweet and wished me luck with the baby. "Not long now!" he says.

I've become very agoraphobic in the last week. No interest in leaving the house at all. Or speaking to people, or emailing or phoning or anything. Weird.

Oh I never told youse. Caught some bint in Wood Green with her hand in my handbag whilst I was looking in a shop window on Monday. Farkin' cow. She didn't get anything. I shooed her. Then my dad called yesterday to say he'd been mugged at his doorway on the Monday night. Poor thing. It was his 60th birthday too. That bloke didn't get anything either. Dad got a fright though. THink it made him feel extra old.

Back later. Cousin just arrived for a visit. Ciao bellas

ShowOfHands · 26/04/2007 14:49

Thieving sods. I'm for you!

HV's been and gone. She was surprisingly pleasant, apologised for having to go through all the rigmarole of 'this is what to do if...' Said that if I didn't want to see her again to just say, she wouldn't be offended and she was only there to support not to criticise. As she left she said that DH certainly seemed lovely and helpful, not to listen to horror stories and that I seemed very laidback and prepared. She was extremely pro-homebirth, anti-routines and in favour of 'mother and baby asleep bog off' signs for the door. She'll do. And she was nice to the cat.

Going to get a hose adaptor now from a big faceless store on an industrial estate somewhere. Oh the exciting life I lead.

BefnalBub · 26/04/2007 17:01

just been put on blood pressure medication and told i can't have a homebirth.

cue floods of tears.

feel like i'm being really childish but had stopped worrying about the birth once i thought it could be at home. its all freaking me out again now.

Pebblemum · 26/04/2007 17:02

Afternoon ladies and bumps!!!

I am so happy now compared to earlier this morning. Little one has turned Got to see her again on the scan which they did just to check. I did ask the comsultant if she could check that i am indeed having a girl (now ive been given lots of pink girly things im getting paranoid that i will have a boy instead) but the baby was not playing ball and would not flash its bits. The consultant did say though that normally by 32wks the dangly bits ona boy would have been quite noticeable and she would be suprised if they had got it wrong so heres hoping shes right.

The only bit i wasnt too comfortable about was the predicted size of this 'little' one. According to the consultant it looks like this baby will be of a similar size to ds1 who weighed in at 8lb 5oz and thats if im lucky. So much for me hoping for another little 7lber. Oh well i guess I will have to try everything to get this LO to arrive early so she isnt that big lol

The funeral this morning went ok, i managed to stay dry eyed although i did have to concentrate hard. It was a miracle really as i seem to be crying over everything lately from seeing new babies, to hearing sad news, to finding a hole in ds1's clothes any little thing can set me off much to dh's embarassment.

Anyway i had better go and do tea for the boys before they starve to death lol (im sure they have hollow legs sometimes) Will try to catch up on all the posts later when they are in bed.

cinnamontam · 26/04/2007 18:31

Great news Pebble

Oh BefnalBub
I'm so sorry to hear that. So very sucky. I really don't know what to say except sending you lots of

cinnamontam · 26/04/2007 18:32

And it definitely isn't childish. All this time you've been expecting a home birth and mentally getting ready for that and now this close to the end that has been changed. I would be all over the place. Is there no way they will let you stay home???

cameroonmama · 26/04/2007 18:59

Hey great news Pebble

So sorry Befnal would they consider a homebirth possible if your bp went back down again?

aprilmeadow · 26/04/2007 19:08

Pebble - great news thats bubs has turned!
BB - sorry to hear that you have been put on BP medication. I hope that you are resting when you can.
SOH - glad to hear that you have a nice HV. I met mine yesterday for the first time. She seemed nice and laid back.
AbbyLou - hope your ds is feeling better.
TooMany - good luck for the induction, hope you are holding your baby by the end of the weekend.

LG&T - hope your mw appt went well.
MrsJB - hope your appt went well and that you are feeling well.
