Jamantha - I had a dream the other night that when I looked in the mirror I was my Mum. I'm not sure whether it's a good or bad thing.

Saf1 - Yes I'm absolutely boiling at night too. Having to keep the windows shut though because of my hayfever. Grrr!

Abgirl - It must be such a relief starting maternity leave. I've got 8 weeks to go, but I'm using up my annual leave too so I only have to work 16 hours a week, which is 1 sleep-in shift. I'm doing a few extra hours a week to make life easier for everyone, plus the extra cash will be very handy.

I've been feeling rotten the last few days. Three days of hayfever without being able to take anything has left me feeling like I have a stinking cold, I'm knackered and everything aches. Thankfully I got to the doctors yesterday and got a prescription for something which won't affect the LO. Just have to wait for it to kick in now, and hope it works.

Also one of our cats hurt it's back paw Saturday night, and we've been fussing round it so much, that I dread to think what we'll be like when the baby is ill. Although at least we might understand the facial expressions better.
The poor cat is hobbling around on 3 legs, it was putting it on the floor when it first did it, and it didn't look mis-shapen so I don't think anything is broken. The next day it was very very swollen but a lot of that has gone down now.
If there's no vast improvement by Thursday we'll go to the vets. I feel so bad for not going sooner, but he seems okay in himself, except for the hobbling, and Thursday is payday.

Justaboutmanaging- I said to DP depending how this pregnancy goes completely determines whether we have any more (which I think is fair enough!)- after all the probs during pregnancy DS1 if I have any similar probs this time at all then enough is enough (my body maybe isn't too great at carrying a baby)- However, if all goes fine this time then I would consider having another (we originally wanted 4, although don't want to have to get a bigger car necessarily so may have to stick with 3 if we are lucky!). We would also consider adopting potentially if I really don't want to have any more pregnancies after this one... But that has lots of issues too so we would have to think VERY carefully about it.

By the way- has anyone started to do their birth plans? I never got time to do one last time (& DS arrived at 30 wks) but think I might put one together once I get to over 31 weeks....still a month off!

Myfairone · 25/04/2007 13:47

Hello all!

Complete clothing disaster this morning!

Had a big presentation and was planning on a black maternity dress (which I havent worn yet), tights (oh my god, I'm so glad my dog can't talk...if he could he would be able to tell all about how I got into all sorts of positions trying to get the damn things on! I huffed and puffed and eventually got them on and then needed to pee! ripped them off in disgust, put my trousers on and a big top!!!!)

When I was halfway through the presentation I had brain freeze and completely lost track! Only 8 weeks till my maternity leave!

What is a birth plan? I feel bad I don't know and feel totally unprepared...can someone fill me in?
Does it involve excel spreadsheets?!?!?!

Hope all are well!

abgirl · 25/04/2007 13:58

Myfairone, a birthing plan is where you write down your preferences for birth and labour, in case you aren't in much of a position to clearly articulate what you want once labour has started. My local hospital has a pro-forma and the areas covered are:

Preparing for labour
Labour
Coping with pain in labour
Your baby's birth
After the Birth

There are lots of detailed threads about what you could include on the pregnancy/child birth discussion areas. I am going to write one for if I have a c-section and one for if I decide to attempt VBAC. So far the only thing I know I am definitely going to put is I want a private room if I have to stay in hospital for more than one night.

Justaboutmanaging - maybe your DH was talking about wives when he said he wanted four
I am so bored with being pregnant now. I feel desperately like I want to play tennis and get fit or want to go on holiday somewhere. I am looking forward to having the baby but am sick and tired of being pregnant (going to bed early, feeling shattered, feeling such a lard arse etc etc). I feel like my life has been curtailed. What a moaner eh?

Miaou · 25/04/2007 14:11

Hi everyone, hope you are all well - sorry but I haven't time to read all the thread - I keep starting, then getting called away to do other things, then come back to it the next day and there are 20-odd more posts - suddenly realised that at this rate I would never actually sit down and post anything!

However I have read the odd bit and am at everyone gearing up for maternity leave - I am halfway through my first week at work!!! . Got another 9 weeks to go before the end of term then I will be on maternity leave until October. I am really enjoying it though, thank goodness. Unlike most people I am always at my best in the final trimester so hopefully this one will be the same - not sleeping brilliantly, but otherwise I have bags of energy and no aches and pains or heartburn - wahey! Mind you I was so sick at the start of this pregnancy that I think I deserve a break

Miaou · 25/04/2007 14:14

(I should add that the reason I'm not sleeping well is not pg-related, my dog has diarrhoea and I have to get up during the night to let her out - not that I'm complaining, saves me coming down to a mess in the morning!!)

Abgirl - Thank you, I always wondered what a birth plan was and never got off my a$$ to find out! Now I know...I guess its a wish list isnt it that states what your preferences are. Sounds good to me because I can just hear DH now saying 'I dont know', whenever he is asked anything

Kyte - Bless your DH! Mine just looked at me and announced that my dress was 'not a good look'! For some reason dresses just do not look good on me..I look HUGE!!! And the tights! OH my! If I was in any way double jointed I would have been okay!

Excellent tip with the manuka honey. I love that stuff! It is expensive but well worth it if it stops the hayfever snivels!

Caroline - as much as I hate to moan (I have been doing a lot of it lately)...just not used to feeling so exhausted all the time!

Miaou - You do deserve to feel good now, I remember how sick you were to start with! Congratulations on your new job (always a good sign that your enjoying it!). I'm really pleased for you.
Sorry to hear about the dogs poorly tum! They so hate messing in the house too don't they! Hope she gets better soon.
I am not sleeping at all! I have kind of accepted it now but it doesnt make the afternoons any easier.

Firststar - I HATE EXCEL! thats why I was prepared to be left in their hands if it meant opening up that program again!
It does make sense to have a list of preferences. I will do one just so that if asked it is available. Whether they follow it or not is another thing, plus I guess it depends on if what you have requested is practical at the time.

Well, we really are getting there arnt we! wooohoooo! I am sure that as our maternity leave approaches (I just worked out I have 42 days left!!!!) we can hopefully relax a little more and slob out in our shorts and whatever footwear we desire

Take care all.

agnesnitt · 25/04/2007 16:03

Gah!

I hate this whole pregnancy lark.

Today I have been having the flashy lights and feeling dizzy symptoms.

Enough already, I want off this merrygoround.

How much is a normal weight gain. I've put on a stone and a half. I'm not impressed.

My birth plan is roughly this:

Please do not argue with me for the sake of it.

I would like to stay mobile if possible, as the last epidural I had sucked the donkey.

Please do not take any insults personally.

Gas and air rocks, I'll agree to that.

Chocolate is a good bribe.

Back from conference - amazed to see how much chat's been on in just a couple of days. Bit scary but also exciting that ML is starting for some.

People soon realised I was pregnant and were very grateful as they got more of the free alcohol (there was loads and meanwhile I had to buy my own J2O once I got bored of water ) But was a good trip, seminars very interesting and catering was amazing.
