Huskygirl- am really thinking of you, definitely get your midwife to check you over as swelling especially where it is quite noticeable can be an early indicator of pre-eclampsia as I'm sure you realise! Do you have the protein test sticks at home? Can you check your urine? How frequently is your BP etc. being monitored?

I too had severe and sudden onset PE (as did Abgirl) & my DS was born at 30 weeks so this time I'm being watched like a hawk- only have very minor swelling at the moment thankfully, and BP & protein is behaving! My BP etc. is taken twice a week by the community midwife and I see the hospital consultant every 2 weeks for scans etc. (& getting steroids to mature baby's lungs on Thursday- just in case things kick off quickly again). I think the PRECOG guidelines (see www.apec.org.uk or the messageboard: www.apec.org.uk/forum/) recommend that you are monitored at least fortnightly for BP etc.- so I hope you are being well looked after.

I really hope the swelling is not due to anything too serious- I know some ladies suffer a lot more than others with swelling during the 3rd trimester and it doesn't mean anything- just fluid retention and often the heat makes it worse.

Do let us know how you are when you get a chance. ((((( )))))

& Hello to everyone else! Hadn't posted yet on this new board & really glad to hear people are generally feeling good...Hope the decorating etc. goes well I know how frustrating it can be (in october we had no water downstairs for 2 weeks while my DP installed a new kitchen- he does EVERYTHING himself, won't allow us to pay anyone else- but consequently it can take ages!!! still waiting for the kitchen cupboards to get handles!!! )

All good with me, a bit nervous about having the steroids on Thurs but BP etc. is behaving itself so hopefully all will be fine! Still managing to sleep pretty well (DS permitting!) so am very lucky!

Big hugs to you all xxx

Hello All,

I have been only been posting in the "pregnancy" threads and today opened the "antenatal clubs" threads to find this!

Will read and catch up on all the posts ...but for the time being wanted to introdue myself...a bumbling bumbly first timer based in the midlands who has had a bit of a nightmare preg so far (severe morning sickness, severe SIJ inflammation, took a fall etc and etc) - but hopefully am due end of July!

All the best to everyone else!

Nice to know won't be alone in July when "push comes to shove"!!!

Regards

Morning all,

Welcome to Bumbly - feel free to complain/vent/chat etc...we are all pretty good at being 'open'!

Typhoonsmum - I am due at the same time as you I believe (29th July) so I'll be here. And as we all know (I think I mentioned it...I DON'T SLEEEEEEP! , so will be around to keep you company!

Well how about this for an eventful Sunday....my downstairs toilet was bubbling yesterday whenever I ran water. Turns out that my drains were blocked. Luckily my father is very 'clever' with all this house stuff. He got DH to help him lift the drain cover and DH promptly puked! My mother and I hid in the house until the blockage was cleared!

I don't know what I would do without my parents! I just hope that they can come round and change nappies because after DH's reaction yesterday, I'm not hopeful he can do it without heaving!

Firststar - Hope that the physio helps with your aches and pains!

Have a great day all!

Myfairone · 23/04/2007 14:12

Oh and meant to say that I can't get any of my shoes on!!!! I am normally a 4.5 and found myself trying on size 6!!!!!! My BP is okay so I guess I must have put weight on or it's water retention!

myfairone - I'm getting doubtful about my DH's nappy potential too. He started talking about getting in boxes of latex gloves yesterday. I've told him it's something I DO expect him to share though. I suspect that I may end up doing more of them, and that (if I go through with the desire to use washables) that I do laundry duty, but I'm not letting him get away scot free.

Speaking of such things, looking ahead a bit, does anyone know if swim nappies are of a disposable or reusable nature?

Miaou · 23/04/2007 16:28

you can get reusable swim nappies - I have one for ds that I got from Mackay's, and they sell them in Jojomamanbebe too

You can get disposable swim nappies 'Little Swimmers' and can't remember the name of Pampers 'Sunnies?' but never found them small enough for dd so have never used them. The reusuable ones are better value anyway if you are going to be going a lot. Got mine from the website that I bought my nappies from.

Jamantha · 24/04/2007 06:07

Had horrible dream last night. Dreamt I delivered the baby now, at 28 weeks, and was sent home after about 2 hours, with NO advice about care, feeding, nappies etc. Trauma!! Amazingly, despite me then neglecting it (the shame ), it thrived! Was so glad to have to wake up early - going on a work conference so got an ultra-early start. Conference dinner tonight has a dress code. Basically I'm wearing the smartest thing I've got that fits, but am imagining that all the other women will be dressed very smartly and elegantly and I'll be there in trousers and a flowing top looking a right sight. As long as they recognise me as pregnant and not just fat though I'll be OK. And if I can stay awake too of course

abgirl · 24/04/2007 08:41

Jamantha, I suggest making a big fuss about having soft drinks and needing to sit down and everyone will soon realise that you are pregnant . Also having had a 29 weeker previously can I reassure you that there's no way you'd ever be sent home 2 hours after giving birth to a 28 weeker - think it would be medically impossible if nothing else...

Well it's a special day for me, at 4pm i finish full time work until at least January, but more importantly I am 29+4 today which is the exact point in my last pregnancy that I had DS - so every day from now on is a bonus! Feeling very happy and relaxed and looking forward to going to a friend's house for a curry tonight for her birthday. Hope you all have a good day too!

Myfairone · 24/04/2007 11:44

Abgirl - Congratulations on starting your maternity leave....woohooo! that really means we are getting there doesn't it!?

I am keeping it all crossed that you can carry this one to full term and have a healthy happy baby! (well, hoping that happens for all of us actually!)

Jamantha - Sorry to hear about your bad dream. Try not to think on it too much though. Its just your mind playing little tricks with you, I am sure.
I am sure you looked wonderful in your outfit!

Firststar - I think I must be carrying the baby in my feet! Luckily I have a pair of boots which seem to have stretched with me! All the time it's raining I am fine!

Well, I went out last night! woohoooo! And kept my eyes open! Much like Jamantha I was very self conscious about my outfit (as I just felt big and fat!) but it seems that I do look pregnant because I got asked if I would like to be seated first because I was pregnant!!! It saved me a long wait in line and it made me feel very special! (Turns out the guys wife was pregnant and he knew what it was like to be too long on your feet!) Love him!

Hope you all feel well today...I'm tired as anything but serves me right for being up past 10 {grin]

madmumNika · 24/04/2007 11:45

Abgirl- just wanted to send you a huge hug for getting to 29+4 weeks, you are doing just fantastically- long may it last too!
Happy last day of work! xxx

lynnec · 24/04/2007 13:09

Hi ladies, hope ou are all keeping well! Im still stuck in bed with this bad cold, its gone into my chest now and i feel terrible, had to go back to gp yestereday for another urine sample as blood and protein still showing, get results tomorrow for this one.

On the bathroom front, plumber managed to break combi boiler on sat so we've had no hot water or heating since, had heating engineer out yesterday who told us it would cost £300 for the part we've just bloody paid £4000 for the bathroom ive been calling around plumbers merchants today who have told me the part actually costs £80
and not £300!!!!! so very pissed off with the heating engineer who is trying to rip us right off!!Anyway....dh is away to buy the spare part and our friend will fit it.

On the pg front.. im massive, but fine, still dont have an appetite but trying to fit in 3 healthy meals a day, tried some choclate cake the other day and was very sick after it, so just need to be healthy food for now

Hope you are all well! x

Chooster · 24/04/2007 13:13

Wow, finishing work abgirl - thats great!!! Ooooh, makes it nearer for us all. I was also planning on working til 37wks (29th june would be my last day) but as time is going on I want to make it earlier. I'm thinking the 22nd June as a last day so I hvae a full 4 weeks (if LO hangs on til due date). I'm also losing motivation for the work - Myfairone - I also find myself on MN or going through various web sites trying to find things for the LO. I've got loads of work to do but no interest

Huskygirl - I've had 'spongy' legs and ankles for a few weeks now. Like you, if I squeeze with my finger / thumb then the imprint stays for ages. Often when I take my socks off at the end of the day I've got a nice indentation all round my leg! By my BP is fine and I had this with my DS so I wasn't too worried. I hope its nothing to worry about for you?

Hope everyone is doing well. We were in London at the weekend and drove back up to Edinburgh last night. On the way DH and I made a list of all the things we want to do before DS2 arrives. The list went on and on and on.... Decorating etc. DH did at one point say that it would be good to replace the kitchen before the end of July I just can't see that happening...

Chooster - what a lovely thought! Hope you can get it all done before LO's arrival.

LynneC - Sorry to hear your not feeling well. Its so miserable when you feel like that and can't take anything. Try and keep positive and hope you feel better soon! Damn workmen are so annoying arnt they. Glad you managed to get it cheaper and do it yourself.

Im smiling at your chocolate cake comment. I too cannot seem to eat anything other than salad and those coconut mushroom sweets from M&S! Every time I try something I used to like it makes me sick!

I have a big meeting at work tomorrow and need to plot an outfit that is suitable! Wish me luck!

Have a good one all.

justbeme · 24/04/2007 14:36

Wow abgirl - am very jealous, but ive only got 34hrs work left till I go on maternity leave (me counting??!!)
I think you do lose your motivation, plus feeling tired.
Anyway JUST had a phone call from Occupational Health, who wanted to see me on 14th May about the pains ive been getting in my sides whilst at work (since early march) - Had to laugh when I told him I go on maternity leave/holiday on 10th may , so will be too late!! God theyre useless!!
Mind you, Ive wangled a disabled space at work today - theyre "knocking me up a sign"!!! to put in my car window, Ive been in a bit of pain walking from the normal carpark - get BH and breathless/dizzyness. Gotta have some perks havent I??

saf1 · 24/04/2007 14:42

Hi All,

Congrats Abgirl on starting your mat leave.
I've got 2 weeks hol booked in May and then I've got to use up 4 weeks leave before lo arrives. So i'm on leave from June 12th and officially start mat leave on edd. I too have lost all motivation and keep looking on websites for a new travel system as I've just sold ours and plan onn selling double buggy and Maclaren buggy aswell. Just got too many buggy's

Well I can sympathise with everyone who is decorating, we've just had over the last 3 days the scaffold put up to begin our extension. Builder keeps giving us different completion dates but lets just hope it's done before lo arrives!!

Jamantha; I have also been ahving loads of dreams that I have this baby REALLy early I think i did with my other 2 but just can't remember. At least it is just a dream

Anyone else melting at night? I'm like a bloody hot water bottle at the moment and keep waking up drenched in sweat even with the windows slightly open and a summer duvet on what am I going to be like when it gets REALLY hot

Good luck to all the decorators/ diyers etc

JennsterSlugSlayer · 24/04/2007 14:54

Don't suppose anybody happens to know if you can put any mirror in the bathroom, or does it have to be specifically for the bathroom. I've seen one I like but wasn't convinced by salesperson that it would be ok in the bathroom. Thought they were meant to be special demister mirrors.

Myfairone · 24/04/2007 15:10

Hi Slugslayer - Doesn't have to be a special mirror. I have an Ikea one in my bathroom which is just great..Nice and inexpensive

If the misting up bothers you, you can always buy a spray for it that will help to cutdown on the mist.

That's good coz I've seen a gorgeous one in B&Q for a fraction of the price of one I've seen in Habitat.
